Koolatron P75 36-Quart Kool Kaddy Electric Cooler/Warmer, Light Grey

Koolatron P75 36-Quart Kool Kaddy Electric Cooler/Warmer, Light GreyDecided to take a chance on this model despite the negative reviews for it. The size was perfect for our use... road trip with a 1.5 year old. It easily stored a gallon of milk, yogurt packs, orange juice, cheese, grapes, snacks, etc. Bought with the AC adapter to provide cooling at night while we stayed in hotels. Worked great as expected, though the construction seemed to be a little flimsy and cheap.

On the 4th or 5th day of use the cooler stopped working consistently. Didn't work when plugged into one of our car power ports. Plugged it into another one, and it started working again. Got to the hotel that night, and plugged it into the AC adapter. Again, it just didn't work, though the adapter was indeed supplying power.

I'm not quite sure if our issue was the fan (which seems to be a common problem) or the power plug; despite the cause, this became an extremely expensive non-powered cooler much sooner than I'd expected. Returned to Amazon for a refund, and I'll likely steer away from this brand in the future.

Another issue: if you use the AC adapter, the DC plug which connects to the AC adapter get extremely hot! I actually burned myself on my arm after unplugging it. It's altogether possible that the heat from the AC adapter might have damaged the DC car plug of the cooler, causing the little spring-loaded center pin to not engage fully in a power port. Whatever the case, this is just poor and potentially unsafe design.

Loved our cooler right from the start. Although we began our trip with a dead battery since we'd plugged it in the night before. We had many miles to travel cross country -Scappoose OR to Atlanta via Nehawka NE and home again. This provided us healthy alternatives to the fast food/truck stop lines. Turkey, avocado & sprouts or PB&J at the rest areas. We were envied to say the least.

Unplugged each night and back in each morning, no problems. When we got into the "hot South" it had a hard time staying below the ambient temp when we were in and out of the car too much. Do you folks East of Kearney NE know that we don't have HUMIDITY out West? Don't know how you all do it! As pioneers, they must have just given up, thinking it would never get better than where they were. So sad. Now don't ya'll move West all at once. This country might tilt further left more than it has this past year or so!

We purchased the A/C adapter and kept the 'fridge' in our destination hotel perfectly. We were quite the sight moving into the Westin for the week.

It was so nice to have a cold drink without the mess of melting ice. Fits nicely on the backseat of the Denali within easy reach of our 6 yr old 'keeper of the treats'. Wouldn't travel far without this again.

BTW I like how it can be a chest or a fridge with the shelf turned. Great feature!

Happy travels...

Buy Koolatron P75 36-Quart Kool Kaddy Electric Cooler/Warmer, Light Grey Now

Bought with Koolatron AC converter. It worked great for one day. The little fan died and it turned into a very expensive ice chest. Bought through Amazon so return was as good as it gets. The fan is about the size you get with a computer only in my case with a very short life. Seems to me this is a common problem with these thermo-units. If only they would spend a few more bucks and install a reliable fan instead of the cheap, feeble fan which is the heart of this design. I like the concept of not having to rely on ice so I will try another koolatron Model-bought through Amazon just in case....

Beware of Koolatron 12v refridgerators. Many do not have thermostats. They stay on continuously once plugged in and will quickly discharge your car battery. In cool weather you may wake to find your groceries frozen, and your battery dead. In warm weather you may wake to find nice cold milk, and your battery dead.

I am an over-the-road trucker. I speak from experience. If you need a 12v fridge for any kind of overnight use in your car, boat or what have you, make sure it has a thermostat. Alternatively, unplug your fridge at night and cover it with lots of additional insulation. Blankets work. Your milk might not be cold for your morning cereal, but it probably won't be bad, and neither will your battery.

Want Koolatron P75 36-Quart Kool Kaddy Electric Cooler/Warmer, Light Grey Discount?

I bought this for a long trip including camping at Yellowstone as a replacement for your typical coleman cooler which run roughly 50 quarts.

Bottom line, it works well but it's too small and smaller than it appears.

The effect size is really small on this unit due to the obvious need to leave some space around the interior fan for air movement. I measure the actual effective capacity as 25 quarts.

Even allowing for ice in a basic 50Q cooler the 25 quart net capacity is much smaller and much too small.

In addition, the top few inches of the cooler will heat up rapidly if you have to leave the cooler unplugged overnight.

I found the fan to be very quiet we didn't have anything touching it obviously.

The unit cools extremely well. Any moisture on the bottom of the cooler will freeze if there is air movement.

We accidentally plugged the heat/cool plug in upside down and warmed everything up rather rapidly. I used a magic marker when we got home to color the black on black arrow silver to help prevent this mistake in the future and held a second family training session ...

We used the following inside ac/dc adapter and were extremely happy with it:

Black & Decker / Vector Travel Mate 6.0 Amp AC/DC Converter (purchased on Amazon).

I would recommend one of the larger Koolatron units and we will be purchasing a replacement for next time:

Koolatron Krusader Cooler not currently available on amazon but this appears to be the product we should have bought.

Koolatron P95 available on amazon and I didn't buy it because the additional capacity is all in the lid area (it's small lower part with a different lid) but since that's the part that heats up quickly I'd put a piece of cardboard/plastic/Baltic birch as a divider and put something I don't really care about pop or bread products as a filler on top of it.

One final comment on this unit. I found the lid really annoying. It wouldn't stay open readily. I eventually drilled a new hole for the lid strap to give it more scope so it would stay open better and now that we are home again I'm going to move it again so the lid opens even further.

Universal Mini USB Car Charger Adapter, Black

Universal Mini USB Car Charger Adapter, Black
  • NOTE: Needs to pair with a USB charging cable. Additional USB charging cable is available for purchase separately.
  • Use your car to charge any devices (digital cameras, PDAs, mobile phones, USB accessories and more) that can rely on USB for power! This adapter plugs into your car's cigarette lighter jack to become a powered USB port.
  • USB car charger adapter charges your PDA from any standard cigarette lighter in any vehicle. (Use together with USB charging cable.)
  • Patented circuit board designed to protect your valuable gadgets from short circuits. Fit all electronic appliances that use a USB charging cable.
  • Input: 12V-24V, Output: 5V / 1000mA, Color: black. NOTE: NOT compatible with Apple® iPad®

I'll start with the good: It looks good, feels relatively sturdy, and does put out 5 volts over USB. Now for the bad: First off, the red LED that comes on is WAY too bright. I wouldn't want to drive at night with it on, which is annoying. Also, While i was testing it, i noticed that the unit felt warm after only 2-3 minutes of charging. It was emitting a burning electronics smell. thats not good! So, considering that the device cost less than 3 bucks, i just took it apart to see what was up....

The device uses an MC34063a voltage converter chip. This chip is tinymaybe 5mm by 2.5mm. This is the source of the heat!!!! I plugged my Droid X into the charger (which was connected to 12v through an ammeter) and after 5-10 minutes of charging, the surface of the chip was 186 degrees F. Not only is this insane, it's also way past the operating range of the chip (about 150 degrees). At this time the charger was pulling .5 to .6 of an amp from the power source to charge the phone.

While technically it works, i wouldn't rely on it. I doubt it will last long considering how hot it gets.

Buy Universal Mini USB Car Charger Adapter, Black Now

The adapter arrived just as it looks in the picture, and it sports a much better form-factor than the clunky alternatives found on Amazon. It's worth noting that the black circle next to the USB input is a blue LED indicator light, letting you know that the device has power. However, the blue light is rather bright. While I like the blue light, some might find it distracting when driving at night; it lights up a good bit of the car.

In my older Infiniti, I have to twist the adapter to find the sweet-spot to get it to hold a charge in the cigarette lighter. I think the problem may lie more with my car than the adapter, though. Once I find the sweet-spot, the adapter works just fine.

When I used the adapter in a 1996 Camry, I had a different result. The adapter worked just fine immediately. I tried twisting the unit to recreate the problem from the first car, but it never lost charge. I actually ran into an unexpected problem. The 1996 Camry has a recessed cigarette lighter, and the nice, small adapter fit into it absolutely flush -so flush that I couldn't pull it out. I ended up having to loop string around the adapter and pull it out that way (worked like a charm).

The adapter seems to work just fine, and I have no problem recommending this for purchase -just make sure your car doesn't have an overly-recessed lighter.

Although, these are nice and cheap, I've had two die on me after a month or so. The fuses seems to be okay. They both just stop charging and the light no longer illuminates. The price is not worth the hassle if you end up having to buy something better anyways.

Want Universal Mini USB Car Charger Adapter, Black Discount?

In one of the product reviews... the person mentioned that the big light on the front is blue, but on the version I recently bought from the Eforcity storefront, it illuminates red (which is fine by me). The light turns on immediately once it is plugged into a running car. I have yet to charge my device fully in the car, so I don't know if the light changes color or not. However, I think the mobile phone has its own control function when the battery is fully charged anyway.

Essentially, this adapter converts your cigarette lighter port into a USB port. The adapter is called "mini" due to its general size as it is much less bulkier than your regular car adapters/chargers. Thus to help with those that may still be confused, the port is not for a mini-USB connector, as it sports a standard USB port. You will need to also purchase a seperate USB cord for charging. For my HTC Evo, I bought a micro USB to standard USB cord which works perfectly so far. Great product and very affordable!

It looks nice and cheap. It fits in my cigarette adapter well. However, it always turns off randomly!!! The light just go out without any reason and my phone stops charging. This situation happens all the time and I got crazy because I depend on it to charge my phone in the car. The other bad thing about this adapter is that it gets very hot after several minutes charging...

The price is not worth the hassle if you end up having to buy something better anyways!!

Husky Liners Classic Style Custom Fit Molded Front Floor Liner for Select Ford/Mazda Models (Black)

Husky Liners Classic Style Custom Fit Molded Front Floor Liner for Select Ford/Mazda Modelsnot that you have to trim it to fit. I plan on returning this as soon as I get a break in the holiday traffic.

I recently purchased these for my son's new truck. My husband and I have a set in our truck and love them. You can just pull them out and rinse them off when they get dirty. They have a lip around the edge to keep any pebbles or melting snow from going under the seats, etc. They are also cheaper here than elsewhere.

PYLE PLMCA30 Motorcycle Mount Amplified 200 Watt x 2 Stereo Sound System with Dual Handlebar Mount

PYLE PLMCA30 Motorcycle Mount Amplified 200 Watt x 2 Stereo Sound System with Dual Handlebar Mount Speakers
  • 200 Watts X 2 micro amplifier with Wire harness - Speaker Dimensions : 2.5''(W) x 2.5''(H) x 3.75''(L)
  • Dual 2.25'' Bullet style Wheatherproof speakers- Amplifier Dimensions : 3.25''(W) x 1.25''(H) x 2''(L)
  • Universal handlebar mount rotary volume control
  • 12 Volt T-TAP
  • Easy Chorome Stainless Mounting Brackets and Accessories included

I really didn't expect much from this kit as I see systems which cost multiple times the amount with very similar specifications, so what could this kit possible bring to the table at the budget price point it's currently going for? Plus as I'm thinking of selling the bike that I put these on, I really didn't want to spend the earth.

I have to say though I'm very happy with both the kit's contents, the look and build of the speakers and the actual audio that pours out of them. I have made a quick video which will better demonstrate the set up so feel free to take a look at it now. Please note that the stereo effect and loudness is lost on this compressed video but let me assure you these are very loud and sound great with no distortion until you turn it up to 100% and then it's minimal as you will hear in the video. At highway speeds of 70+ you can still hear them although you have to have them turned up quite high. When you come to a stop you realize just how loud they are though obnoxiously loud at full whack!

So I used a fuse tap (if you search for fuse tap on amazon you'll find lots of them for pennies) to hook the amp directly to the wiring harness of the bike and I ground it to the frame both spade and ground connector were supplied. It is is important that you don't just hook the kit up to the battery as you don't want the amp bleeding it dry during downtime, and an amp at 200 Watts wouldn't take long to drain it at all. So either add an inline switch (not supplied but easy to add) or hook up to your ACC/auxiliary on the bike or do what I did and tap into the ignition fuse directly.

Very happy with the result. If you're in the market for a low price, high quality speaker set up for your bike then this could very well be it.

Buy PYLE PLMCA30 Motorcycle Mount Amplified 200 Watt x 2 Stereo Sound System with Dual Handlebar Mount Now

Not a bad little stereo. I had a better sounding system on my last bike (a shark stereo), but it was UGLY! This system sounds fine, but I did have to set my iPod to an equalizer setting of almost no bass in order to avoid distortion. I have loud aftermarket pipes and a windshield and I can hear it fine at highway speeds.

Since this is the lower-grade model, Pyle kind of jips you on installation hardware. The brackets for mounting the speakers are small "z" shaped brackets, which are useless for handlebar mounting. I went to Lowe's and bought some 1" anodized, rubber-sheathed "p" brackets for a little over a buck and used them to mount the speakers to the handlebars. I need to go buy another set to mount the volume control to the handlebars.

I think the next stereo up (the -60 model) gets you the chrome "p" brackets plus a higher watt amp and am/fm too. I never use the am/fm and found the "p" brackets for cheap, so the only reason for me to buy the upgrade would be for the larger amp.

Stanley J509 500 Amp Jump Starter

Stanley J509 500 Amp Jump StarterThis review is based on ~8 months of use. Purchase price was $70.

This starter pack is useful if you have a car that sits a lot, and you cannot use a float/trickle charger (like at an apartment). I telecommute most of the time, so my car battery does not get charged much by the alternator. I noticed that the battery in my car was no longer zippy (starts up fast when the battery is good), so I bought this starter pack to supplement the car battery. I would use it multiple times before I recharged the pack. The car battery eventually became severely damaged (interior lights were completely dead) due to lack of use/charge and this pack started the car up on the first try so I could get to Sears.

Stanley recommends that this pack be charged every month, regardless if it is used or not. After the purchase of a new car battery, the jump pack sat in my car for a while, but still held a charge. It was able to start the car of a stranded motorist after not being charged for weeks.

Note that this starter pack cannot run a tire pump from the cigarette lighter outlet as the amp draw is limited to .5amp. Get a different unit if you plan on using it for this purpose. The LED light is quite dim, but better than nothing when you are on the side of the road without a flashlight.

Buy a short extension cord to charge this jump starter, as it does not come with one.

I am rating this unit at three as I am not sure yet if it is defective, or just not very worthwhile. I bought it about a month ago, and charged it fully as was recommended in the directions. A week later, I had the "opportunity" to use it and it failed to jump start my neighbors riding lawn mower. The battery on the unit did not did not hold a charge. I put a charge on it again, and will see if it holds this time. I should think a week between charging and using should not render the battery so weak as to not start a little lawn mower!

I recently purchased the Stanley Jump Start for myself, and what a great item this is. Totally portable, charges off a common extension cord into your own outlet(s). Not too heavy, many features like a light attachment, a USB port, neatly accomodates the cables. Well worth the price, and I found out about it from my AAA service for dead car batteries. I love it when people share great buys.

Charged it when I received it per instructions. Then when I went to use it... nothing. I tried the battery test and it showed no charge. Got a refund. Also, cables are so short you have to set it somewhere in the engine compartment.

Stinger Wire 0 Gauge Pro Firewall Grommet

Stinger Wire 0 Gauge Pro Firewall Grommet
  • Sold individually
  • The ultimate professional sealing grommet!
  • Prevents water and wind noise from entering the interior cabin.
  • Stinger Part# PG34
  • Fits 0 gauge power wire

This 1/0 Through wall connection was a bit loose around the 1/0 cable. It tightened down good but I'd say it's splash proof at best. I've added silicone sealant around the inner gasket so water will not come into the cab from the engine bay.

This is truly well built. The white part of the Grommet tightens to attach the grommet to the firewall whereas the black part consists of tiny grooves which tightens around the wire as you turn thereby creating a tight waterproof seal. The grommet itself is very firm and seems to be able to stand high temperatures. One point to note, there is no 'stinger' logo or writing anywhere on this grommet.

Husky Liners Classic Style Custom Fit Molded Front Floor Liner for Select Subaru Legacy/Outback Mod

Husky Liners Classic Style Custom Fit Molded Front Floor Liner for Select Subaru Legacy/Outback ModelsMy stock subaru liners slip (most importantly on the drivers side). I was nonplussed by the expense of these liners, but my brother recommended them. Performance: very good, no slippage. Shape: pretty good cut. I didn't make any additional cuts, although if you want more rapid access to a subie gas cover release, you might need to. This plastic is hard and I expect the edges could lacerate skin, so some tape might be required to mitigate this possibility. I read a review for this product before (where did all of them go?) where someone complained about having to trim these 'custom' liners for the price. Yea, but they are really $30/each and made in the US. For the quality, I would expect small modifications to fit the idiosyncrasies of your vehichle.

These floor liners are top notch. They keep all the mud, dirt and snow from ruining your carpet and can handle any spills the kids can throw at them. I had these in my old Explorer and bought new ones when I bought my new truck. Very much worth the money!!

The remote is new and the size is the same, the button 2 shows a trunk and it does not match my particular remote specs. Just a detail that does not affect functionality but keeps me from giving it 4 stars.

Accutire MS-5510B Racing Tire Gauge

Accutire MS-5510B Racing Tire GaugeThis gauge works well and is easy to read. It seats well and does mostly what it should.

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding from what I have read in other reviews. Let's clear a few things up.

First of all, you do NOT have to wait ten seconds between readings. You DO have to hit the recall button on the bottom between readings.

Secondly, you DO NOT have to send the unit back to replace the batteries. The instructions VERY clearly state the model number of user replaceable batteries (if you were to read the instructions).

The hose was flexible for me in 30 degree weather contrary to what I have read elsewhere. Maybe it gets stiff in really cold weather but then I use mine in the garage.

Very Nice Gauge

I had the same problem described by R. Nielsen. The gauge would not take a new reading after I pressed the release valve to let air out. It only took a new reading if it was removed from the tire completely and reconnected. I called the manufacturer, who told me that it sounded like a problem and that I should return the gauge to them for a replacement. I returned it to Amazon as defective and got a new one with the same problem. I contacted the manufacturer again and they again asked me to send the gauge in for a replacement. I have sent the gauge to the manufacturer at my expense. The second replacement also had the problem. Customer service told me that they had sent the second replacement from the wrong batch/crate.

Six weeks later (November 27th) I received a properly functioning gauge. So it seems that a properly manufactured example of this gauge really does work properly. There was just a very large run of defective ones. At this point, I would give this item 3 stars: 4 for performance and price, minus one for the hassle involved in getting one that isn't defective.

If yours is defective, you should contact Accutire customer service and let them know: 973-402-4240.

Buy Accutire MS-5510B Racing Tire Gauge Now

I like this gauge. For the price, it is efficient and accurate. Yes the hose is a bit stiff, but hardly more than a minor annoyance. As for any leaks, I have had none (so far). The fitting over the tire valve stem seems just fine to me. Just get it on snugly; grips the stem just fine. I also simply bleed the pressure out of the gauge between readings and all is good to go for the next reading, so not sure what others here are talking about when they say they need to press the recall button. I only use that for calibration. In addition, I do not understand what one other reviewer was referring to when having to wait 10 seconds between reads... As I bleed, sure, the pressure reading is not accurate, but once you stop the bleeding while using the bleed valve, the current pressure is immediately updated for me...

Overall, definitely recommended, at least for now. If that changes, I'll be sure to update here.

December 7, 2010 UPDATE: 3 years later, this is still working flawlessly! No leaks, battery still good.

May 6, 2012 UPDATE: Still working great; almost 5 years owning it. I did have to replace the batteries in late 2011.

After reading the other reviews here on Amazon I was a little apprehensive. It did appear that the more negative reviews were the older ones. The company that makes the gauge itself has also switched hands so I took a chance.

The gauge is fast and accurate. You have both a digital readout and a bar readout around the circumference that is reminiscent of an analog gauge. The digital readout gives you a reading to a tenth of a pound and is MUCH larger and easier to read than the bar around the outside edge. The readout changes on the fly even while bleeding air. The hose is very soft and flexible. The connection on the end is awesome. The seal is great. Not ONCE have I bleed air unintentionally while trying to make a seal. The clip is solid. You can clip it on to the stem and let go and it holds on tight. The blue backlighting is bright and even.

I have no idea why you would want to clip it on and monitor the pressure for more than a second but you can if you like. The hose also remains pressurized after you disconnect it from the tire. This permits you to stare at the reading for up to one full minute. You can tap the bleed valve to reset the gauge or just plug it into the next tire and the pressure equalizes with the tire to give you the new reading. You do not have to hit a reset button (The reset button picture in the product image is now just the ON button. There is no reset button). The only time you have to press the bleed valve to get a reading is if you leave pressure in the hose and let the device go into standby while still pressurized. When you turn it on with pressure in the hose the display reads "BL" prompting you to press the bleed valve before taking a reading.

The bleed valve button is easily usable while holding the gauge in the left hand. It does not bleed air terribly fast but you are apparently considering the purchase of a tire pressure gauge with a decimal point; you are obviously are O-C-D enough to want to do it right. Of course the readout is not accurate while it is bleeding. Is an analog gauge? No. You have to let the bleed valve close to get an accurate reading.

The flexible hose is a blessing and a nuisance. It's great because it allows you hold the gauge comfortably and easily see the readout when the tire stem is in an awkward position. On the downside it means you have to use two hands to take a reading. My old gauge was a little one piece analog number that allowed me to press it to the tire stem while holding the compressor hose in the other. On the whole the benefit outweighs the disadvantage for me.

The gauge is larger than I expected. Including the rubber grip/padding around the outside it is about 2 and 5/8 inches across and 1 and 3/8 inches deep. I'm a six foot tall guy and it fits very comfortably in my hand. It may be too large to hold solidly if you have small hands. The hose is 12 inches long which sounds unnecessary but it's actually just right.

Lastly... It's an LCD display. This means that it's polarized. It is viewable from all normal angles. It is not visible when viewing from a steep angle above or from very steep angles on the sides or from below. You can't see it if you're wearing polarized sunglasses. It's far from a problem. You will not have trouble reading the display under any normal circumstances.

Final thoughts: It's a quality product. Buy it.

Want Accutire MS-5510B Racing Tire Gauge Discount?

To be honest I had second thoughts of getting this gauge because of a lot of negative reviews, glad I discounted them, either because some seem not to know how to operate the gauge or some earlier units had some battery troubles, maybe the fault lays of listing the "oldest reviews" before the newest.

I will admit I am somewhat anal about pressure in my tires maybe because being a motorcycle rider for the last 30 years or because I just brought new tires for my car for $120 a piece filled with free nitrogen, I wanted to see if the nitrogen pressure did hold until the next tire rotation, (8,000 miles) see if it drops any less than plain air, it holds way better than regular air, less than 1/2 lb.

This gauge is really made well, works flawlessly, so easy to read with that blue digital screen, seems accurate I mean reading in tenths of a pound !

One of the best things about it ? the only tire pressure gauge I ever owned that doesn't lose air from the tire as you set the valve on the stem of the tire, this is a first for me, all gauges leak a bit when setting on valve, not this one, I just hold it on a read the gauge, one might hear the tiniest of a hiss when releasing the valve and hose off the tire valve, truly amazing, I love this gauge I would have paid $50 for it !

The only gauge one needs, remember up to 60 lbs, psi, if one has to measure tire pressure of 61 or higher forget this gauge it's made to read up to 60 lbs, anything more which I tried, the screen doesn't even light up over 60 lbs. (they should make a different model to read above 60 lbs, for large work vans and large suv's) check your air pressure "plate" mounted in all cars, trucks, driver side door frame, this is what you need to put in the tires on your model car, if you have the same type tires, never use the MAX air pressure, stamped on the tire side wall your checking.

Remember this gauge has a timer on it, if one takes too long going from the front to the rear of the car, unscrewing the tire valves, bleeding out the air from the last tire you checed, it will "time-out" the unit will turn off, you must turn on the gauge, button at top of gauge, at this point make sure your reading 0.0, if your not press on the "bleeder valve" to make sure all the air is out ! if you hold or push it too long it switches from psi to metric, easy to flip back, just hold it a little longer, one other tip, again make sure you "bleed out" all the air of the tire you just got a reading on, before you test the next tire, tire gauge must read "0.0" lbs to check pressure, pretty simple enough !

I ordered this in early Nov, sticker on back of unit stated 09/2007, nice and freshly made.

Forget the "bad old reviews", this is a great gauge !!!!! or I hope your model is ?? : )))

Pioneer DEH-80PRS Mobile CD Receiver with 3-Way Active Crossover Network, Auto EQ and Auto Time Ali

Pioneer DEH-80PRS Mobile CD Receiver with 3-Way Active Crossover Network, Auto EQ and Auto Time Alignment
  • Audiophile grade internal components for the ultimate in sound quality
  • 28-bit binary floating-point DSP and 3-way digital network
  • App Mode
  • Auto EQ (CD-MC20 required)
  • Auto Time Alignment

I had been trying to improve the sound quality in my 2007 Xterra for several months, and I finally got there with this head unit. I could talk about its features, compatibility with iOS devices, aesthetics, menus, etc., but I thought it might be more useful to just describe my setup a bit. Besides, its capabilities have been well-covered here and on other sites.

I'm running the HU in 'Network' mode, which means the standard Front, Rear, and Subwoofer RCA outputs on the rear are switched to send High, Mid, and Low frequencies to separate amplifier channels. I'm using two channels of my 4-channel amplifier for High (tweeters in my dash) and the other two channels for Mid (mid-woofers in my front doors). The Low output is going to separate 2-channel amp (bridged) to feed my subwoofer in the rear cargo area. Once installed, I ran the auto EQ and Time Adjustment process with the included microphone (attached to the driver's seat head rest) and the HU figured out crossover points, relative sound levels, equalization, and the necessary delays to insure the audio from each speaker reaches my head at the same time. Really, really impressive stuff. I made a couple of very minor adjustments to tweak the sound to my liking, but the process got me more than nine-tenths of the way there.

My Full System Specs:

Pioneer DEH-80PRS Head Unit (network mode, internal amplifier disabled)

Alpine MRX-F30 Amplifier (4-channels x 50W, driving the dash and door speakers)

Boston Acoustics SR60 Component Speakers (not using the included passive crossovers, tweeters in dash, mid-woofers in front doors)

Rockford Fosgate R125-2 Amplifier (2-channel, bridged for 125W subwoofer output)

Bazooka BT1014 Subwoofer

I hope this review is helpful.

Buy Pioneer DEH-80PRS Mobile CD Receiver with 3-Way Active Crossover Network, Auto EQ and Auto Time Ali Now

I decided to upgrade my factory head unit in my 2010 Kia Soul with this unit and the SWI-RC to retain the steering wheel controls. I am running a set of JL Audio C5 6.5" mid woofers, a set of ScanSpeak Illuminator D3004 tweeters, and a JL 12" W0 sub in a Stealthbox, all being powered from a JL audio XD600/6.

First I will say that this is the best head unit under 1k for running an active 2way system that I know of. The DEX-P99RS is Pioneers Stage 4 head unit that most of the features in this unit trickled down from, the awesome big brother of the 80PRS.

This HU allows you to control all your crossover points as well as the slope for each, a 16 band eq per side, time alignment, phase reverse. This can complicate setup for many though. Although I have installed plenty of car audio over the years, and understand all of the tech inside this unit, getting all the features set right isn't as easy as it may seem. So I would suggest that you read up about how to set up an active Sound Quality system before taking the plunge, and decide if you're willing to put in the effort to maximize it's usefulness, otherwise you'll be wasting money on features you won't use.

It does come with an auto EQ microphone which can set up your system for you, but be careful, you may not like the results when it's done, and may need to configure many of the settings yourself to get the best sound to your ears.

This unit also allows you to bypass/turn off the internal power for better SQ, and when running separate amps you won't need it anyway, which is a nice feature.

I am still calibrating my system, but so far Pioneer has a real great HU here, with features that are hard to find, especially at this price point. The menus aren't really hard to use or figure out, but they are a bit basic compared to something like a touchscreen Double DIN headunit, but cool interactive menus aren't why I purchased this unit, it's all about sound quality, and it delivers.

If you value great control over your sound, and prefer SQ over having a dvd player or gps etc, this has to be one of the best HU's for the price.

If you happen to have a Kia Soul, two things. First, I'd suggest the Scosche dash kit rather than the Metra. The Metra kit is a little nicer looking, but the fold down face hits the plastic, so it's a no go. Second, the 80prs is a very tight fit in the kia's dash, just keep this in mind, as you may need USB/RCA cables with small ends on them to fit. I'm using JL audio patch cables, and the usb cables mentioned below.

It only comes with one USB cord that is about 24" long, so because I have the usb right under the radio coming through a hole in the pocket, it leaves alot of slack inside the dash. I decided I didn't really like having all the extra slack sitting in my dash, so I got 2 shorter, about 20cm long right angle cables. The 20cm length just makes it out to the edge of the pocket. If you need the factory length cable, just stick with the one that comes in the box and order another pioneer cable.

**Update**

After living with this unit for awhile, I can still say it's an awesome unit. Pioneer really went a little cheap on the feel of the controls, as it's a bit plastic and cheap feeling, but for users who value the amount of control and system configuration this unit allows, it's still a no-brainer. Pioneer cut corners in all the right places to keep the cost down and they did a good job.

It has simply been dead quiet for me, other than the annoying little beep with every volume change(what can you do though), the internal components in this unit, what you're really paying for, are worth it! I can have the volume at 75% and in between songs or when on pause, you would never know the unit was even powered. There's a clarity and transparency that I don't remember having in any other head unit I've used before, factory or aftermarket.

I also love having 2 usb ports, and an SD card slot, as I'm able to keep almost all of music and audiobooks ready to go, and not have to take them out unless I'm updating the cards.

Simply put, if you want a system more oriented towards sound quality than features, which this unit has plenty of, but lacks, DD, gps or dvd, this is the only head unit to buy right now. Many brands have just stopped making great SQ head units, because they cost alot more to produce and just don't sell as well as those with all the extra fluff put in. Let's tell Pioneer that we actually care about SQ and we want more units like this and go buy this!

Accompanied by an rp4-vw11 canbus adapter for my 2012 golf tdi really made install flawless. I use and alpine mrp-f300 for the speakers and an alpine mrp-m500 for the subwoofer and hifonics zxi-6.5c speakers all the way around with a 10" jvc arsenal subwoofer in a .6 cu foot sealed box (very undersized for the sub specs). Sound quality is flawless. Comes with the auto-eq mic so don't buy one! After the install I setup auto eq and time alignment and the sound was great. I only made a few minor tweaks to adjust to my liking and it turned out great. There are very few buttons to use which to me is good(less components to fail) the 3 brown burr d/a converters really step up the performance compared to a like priced alpine head unit. I used monster low noise cables and everything sounds great. There are words to songs I never knew existed. After the auto eq I could hear the separation in the high hats and cymbles that made me feel like I was in the studio. I listen to a little bit of everything and this unit left no compromise for the variety. Whether it was heavy bass notes from dub step/electronica or the vocals from some Aerosmith tracks the head-unit performed. Leaving no cracking, hissing or ear piercing treble notes. It truly took an entry level system (compared to what you can spend on speakers woofers and amps) and brought it to a high end standard.

I would like to bring up one con that everyone will bring up. The beauty cover that goes around the faceplate is fairly thin. This can lead to breaking it if you are rushing. I didn't need it with my setup because how my double-din to single-din adapter works but it may worry some people that will use it.

Overall I'd say that this has been the best 350 dollars I have spent on the car and am happy to own such a wonderful headunit. This blows away a 500 dollar eclipse headunit I used to have and destroys, literally destroy alpine head units I've used in the past. You are most certainly paying very little compared to what you are getting. And by the way, the adjustments aren't very difficult it just takes a little getting used to (took me about 10 min while enjoying some music). Once you have it tuned in, turn it up. Your ears will be in euphoria and you will get goose bumps from how well it sounds.

I would definitely recommend this head unit to anyone. Whether you are an audiophile and need to adjust absolutely everything (me) or you are looking to upgrade, don't settle for less an you will be happy you didn't.

I've been a consumer of the Pioneer brand in home entertainment and car audio since the early 90s. While I've always been mostly satisfied with their products for reliability and value, I will say that I've seen the sound quality of their car audio lines wax and wane over the years. I upgraded from the DEH-7900BT which always seemed to fall short of my expectations versus previous experience with Pioneer head units. Enter the 80PRS: All I can say is that I'm very impressed with this head unit. The 80PRS comes with an extra microphone for Auto Time Alignment and Auto Equalization. While this is not new in the car audio world, the fact that it works as well as it does in this model is what is impressive. With minimal manual setting changes, I get wonderful clarity and spatial perception out of my Infinity Reference series 6.5s. My car audio now has an immersive quality it was lacking with the 7900BT and I'm very satisfied with the purchase of the 80PRS. The Time Alignment really sold this unit for me as I drive a compact car and space is at a premium. Time Alignment allows you to set the virtual distance of the speakers from the listener by delaying the sound that comes out of the speakers. This allows you to create a listening space that sounds larger than your vehicle. Combine this with Pioneer's automatic adjustment and you can really get some impressive sound in a restrictive space with minimal guess work. The wonderful part is that I can fine tune every aspect of the sound as all the settings are exposed from the interface. With sound dampening (Damplifier Pro), a 12 inch Infinity Reference subwoofer powered by a 300 watt Infinity Reference amp, and all four 6.5 inch full range speakers being Infinity Reference as well, I can say that I've found my sound for a while.

Tip: I recommend soldering your wiring harness for best results.

I'm an (home) audiophile for 15years, this is by far the most impressive sounding deck I've listened to under $500.

When set up correctly this deck will sound great, if not then...

CRUCIAL TO the SETUP I found is to place the mic at a 45degree angle, facing front and roof of car with headrest REMOVED. I had it set up according to owners manual taping mic on headrest facing forward previously produced a very inaccurate calibration and imaging was off by a notch.

For accurate time alignment just use a measuring tape.

If you're measuring distance for the sub firing backwards in a station wagon like me measure the distance the sound travels and not the point where sub is located. (eg drivers chair -rear window and rear window to sub.

This is because the rear firing sub reflects sound from the back of the car and hence a slight time delay.

There are cheaper decks and they sound great too with high quality DACs being more affordable today, but nothing compares when you have EQ and time calibration.

Illumination: I don't bother using the dimming function as the color calibrated changes significantly when dimmed.

For reference I drive an 05 impreza wagon, $200 kenwood 4 channel amp, rear channels not ext amplified, 6.5" a/d/s sub (not a great sub but I got it free): my setup is very modest as you can see but with the right setup sounds awesome.

I was debating over Husky or WeatherTech and I ended up puling the trigger on these floor mats. I am glad I did. They are well built and fit great, No water gets off the matt. The only reason I dont give this a 5 star is there is a bit of gap (2012 Honda CRV) between the doors and matt. Other then that they fit great.

Stinger Shoc-Krome Series 0 to 4 Gauge Power / Ground Wire Reducer

Stinger Shoc-Krome Series 0 to 4 Gauge Power / Ground Wire Reducer
  • 0 Gauge Input to 4 Gauge Output
  • Corrosion Resistant - High Power Delivery
  • Improves Cosmetic Appearance
  • Very heavy duty. Can be used for audio, marine and any underhood wiring.
  • Allen Type Screw Terminal

I liked the idea of not having to take my 0 gauge wire and putting it into a distribution block and then running 4 gauge wire into my amplifier but when i tried to install the post into my amp i found that it didnt fit into my amplifier. Im almost 100 % positive that my amplifiers ports accept 4 gauge wire and the post is just a hair too big. Im going to try to grind it down a hair and see if it will work after that but i dont like to modify things that should work. The idea is there and it could just be my amp so it could work for others but this is my experience so take it for what its worth and try it for yourself if you would like. Shipped quick and was priced good.

This item is 13/16" at it's widest point & 3/8" wide at the narrow end. I've read numerous reviews on this item but haven't found either here, or on the Stinger site, how wide these reducers actually are.

I have a Lanzar Opti2000D amp w/4 gauge power/ground terminals. I had to trim the sides down from 3/8" to just under 5/16" wide, in order to fit into the amp. My pwr/gnd connections are separated by a 1/2". With both reducers installed I have 5/32" clearance between the terminals. A great buy!!

This is a great product. I really like the build quality. Not only is this reducer well made and heavy-duty, it gets the job done in high fashion. It fits true 1/0 gauge cable perfectly, in turn, making a great seal from the elements. I recommend this product to anyone who wants top quality for a very reasonable price. Hands down, one of the best!

Detailer's Choice 4B325 Tire and Battery Brush

Detailer's Choice 4B325 Tire and Battery BrushI bought this wire brush to clean the battery contacts. It's sturgy and has a long handle.

The only drawback is its rather bulky width, which precludes getting in some hard-to-reach areas.
