Whistler Pro-2000W 2,000 Watt Power Inverter

I am an over the road truck driver and we bought a Cuisinart K-Cup coffe maker that draws 1500 watts of power and my 1500 watt inverter could not handle it. We installed this inverter and upgraded the inline fuses to 80 amps and it works like a charm. It can be a bit noisy under load but for the price I am VERY pleased. We have been using for three months so far.

Did not last 2 months. Powered a microwave about 5 times, a coffee pot about 10, and a laptop on occasion. Now it starts whining with an audible alarm and shuts down regardless what I try to power with it. Also the built in USB port didn't never work either, would not even charge an iPad. I am just outside the window of return with it so now I must contact the company who made it and hope for the best.

I have come back to report that I never was able to get this company to respond concerning the failure of this unit or any type of RMA. I have resigned to the fact that I threw away almost $200 and I am having to order a different brand now from another company in hopes for the best. I do not recommend this brand

I did my research, and looked over countless reviews. I bought the Whistler Pro-2000 watt power inverter, and I am VERY HAPPY!!! I am a trucker so I know what I am talking about when it comes to the needs of everyday power inverter use. I didn't want to have to use all 4 batteries to run a power inverter. I was using a Sima STP 1500 watt power inverter, and it always had problems running my 700 watt micro wave. I installed my Whistler Pro-2000 watt today and it worked just great. I am all smiles. My micro wave worked great without any problems. The digital read out told me how many watts I was using, and the 3 fans on the back kept it nice and cool. The old inverter would take 4 min. to cook a bag of popcorn, I guess because it wasn't supplying enough power. With my Whistler I was able to cook the same bag of popcorn in 2:30 min. and it almost burnt the popcorn, that is how well it performed. I will continue to update this review when I test it even further.

Will run a 1300 watt microwave no problem (1700 watt at peak). Lots of hissing on light bulbs, both Incandescent and CFLs. But if you have any old CRTs lying around that you are going to be using, you will need a Pure Side Wave Inverter.

This is my first inverter so I have no point of reference to compare it to, but it's meeting my expectations in every way. Do read the reviews for this and other Whistler models as well as other inverters to avoid the mistake of thinking you can plug this into your cigarette lighter and you're done it ain't that simple! Please, please forget using your cigarette lighter with any inverter over 200W right now...you are almost certain to toast fuses or wiring in your car.

And oh yeah, a complete solution is not as cheap as this single item either.

My biggest complaint was about grounding the unit. There is a ground connector but not much detail about *how* to ground it or *why* to ground it in the manual. Searching around on the web I found posts suggesting that (1) you don't really need to ground it and indeed it works just fine without a ground wire, (2) if you don't ground it you will die, and (3) if you DO ground it you will die. I think I got that resolved (more later). My only other complaint is trivial: the supposedly always-powered USB port on mine is only powered when the switch is on. Not a huge deal.

I bought this to supply power to a few items in my house in the event of a sustained power grid failure caused by something like an ice storm or a hurricane, both of which I've experienced. I've had a gasoline generator for years but it took up lots of room, had to be maintained (oil/filter changes, keeping the tires inflated, exercising it periodically) and I had to remember to go buy lots and lots of flammable gasoline to store when the weather looked nasty (and provide space for all those gasoline containers). After reading a lot on the web I sold and replaced it with a solution consisting of...

* this Whistler 2000W inverter (up to 4000 starting watts you need to understand the difference between starting and running watts before you even think about buying an inverter or a generator!)

* two 12V 110 amp deep-cycle sealed AGM batteries to supply power to the inverter (you need to understand all those buzzwords too like deep-cycle, sealed and AGM)

* several not-too-cheap cables to connect the two 12V batteries together in parallel (a.k.a. a "battery bank"), then to connect them to the inverter (the inverter wants to be fed 200 amps; two 110 amp batteries in parallel provide 220 amps to make it happy; my car's alternator provides only 105 amps and yours probably doesn't provide much either, you need to understand parallel vs. serial battery banks)

* a "smart" charger to keep the two 12V batteries ready for use

* a few very robust extension cords

* a rolling utility cart to put all this heavy stuff on (the batteries are about 90 lbs. each)

* a ramp to let me roll the cart up two steps into the house from the garage

That got me started and that's almost all. This let me try to power the items I want to be able to run in an extended outage, including:

* my refrigerator/freezer, a recent model from Samsung that is very efficient, it starts and runs fine off the inverter

* as many CFL-equipped lamps as you'd like as well as a few electric fans they draw virtually no wattage; knock yourself out

* essential electronics including a laptop, cable modem, wireless router, NAS adapter, external hard drive, wireless printer, VOIP phone box, cordless phone base station, cell phone and tablet chargers but *not* the UPS that these are usually plugged into the UPS didn't like the inverter (I learned that a UPS *is* an inverter system with battery all in a box)

That left me with one essential item that wouldn't run: an older model, not very efficient portable/room-to-room air conditioner. It wanted more starting watts than the inverter could supply. Solution: do without the air conditioner or buy a newer, more efficient one. Still looking at that. I'll update this review when I figure out what I'm going to do.

One last problem: in an extended power grid failure, how do I recharge my battery bank when it has been depleted? I thought about cranking up the car and connecting jumper cables from its battery to the battery bank, but read too many posts online that made me uncertain about the wisdom and safety of that. Then the light bulb came on: another inverter, just a smaller one. My car's alternator will easily power a 400W inverter ($32, about the price of a good set of jumper cables). My "smart" charger only uses 150W. So for another $32, my car becomes a 400W 115V generator that runs the smart charger that replenishes the big inverter's battery bank. Problem solved. (Actually, I went for an 800W inverter for around $50 so that I could recharge the battery bank and still power some other items during the recharge my car's 105 amp alternator can handle the 800W inverter's 80 amp requirement with no problem. Your next assignment is to find out how many amps your car's alternator puts out.)

Confused yet? I was too and I'm still learning, but I think I've put together a pretty low-maintenance, high-reliability solution for a power failure lasting several days. I have around $1,000 in it and expect it to last for years. Just wanted to give a plug to this product while making people aware that there is a lot more to this than just buying an inverter.

Oh yeah, about grounding the inverter: that was easy. The ground lug is there to ground the inverter's case to the chassis of the inverter itself inside the case. Just connect an 18 or 16 gauge wire between the inverter's negative input terminal and the ground lug. I got this from Whistler tech support. I don't know why the unit can't just be supplied that way. Anyway, I've run it for hours with and without that ground wire and it works just fine. Like any electrical device, pay attention to what you're doing and be careful!

I have my cooking and heating needs covered for an extended period without electricity which is why they're not mentioned here.

Received the product in a double boxed package because it weighs so much,no defects with battery. I have had the battery installed for about 3 weeks now and it has performed flawlessly. Totally recommend the Battery for anyone that is running a high wattage stereo system. This battery is awesome. I really like it. It's like having a giant battery and a giant capacitor all in one. It really delivers power fast. Even when I pound my system (it's a very high power system) my lights don't disco dimm at all. That's a problem I had with my previous battery. I decided to try this before I upgraded my charging system, and I'm glad I did. Looks like I don't need a high output alternator at all. If I continuously pounded my system for long periods, I probably would need one, but I only play it really loud for short periods. I bought this as a second battery for my car because my sound system was pulling so much from my battery that not only did my lights in my car dim, but the battery meter in the car was dropping dramatically every time a base note hit. I knew I needed a second battery. I am running a 3000 watt amp with two 1200 watt subs, and when I got this battery it really did the trick. Now I can run my subs twice as hard as I used to and not only doesn't the battery meter in the go down, but the lights done dim at all! With this battery you don't even need a capacitor, because it pretty much has it built in. This battery discharges much faster than a regular stock battery. My lights don't even dim in my car, not even a little bit after I put this battery in. This was exactly what I was looking for, for the power demands in my car. Tivoli Model Satellite Table Radio (Sirius Satellite Radio / AM / FM )

I love Sirius in my car for its niche channels like jazz, Folk Town and Bluegrass so I bought the Tivoli table model. On the positive side the sound is GREAT -right up there with Bose, but the design leaves some things to be desired. 1. It won't work without external antennas for AM, FM or Sirius. 2. It does not have an internal power supply. 3. To get stereo or CD you have to buy additional boxes. 4. You really do have to have a clear view of the sky where the satelite is located. Trees and buildings block the signal. 5. You might as well order the third party signal booster and antenna extension because it only comes with a 30 foot cable to the antenna which will probably not get it to your roof. 6. There is not an easy way to feed additional stereo equipment to take advantage of a home sound system. 7. There is no way to cut off the big blue info screen which is really BIG and Blue. When installed this thing has as many wires and connections as a lobbyist in Washington. But if you can put up with the clunky design it is wonderful.

I have no doubt that one reason for the slow adoption of Satellite Radio by consumers is the lousy hardware. I mean, what are they thinking? The collection of products for both Sirius and XM looks like the over-designed, comic book props in Star Wars movies. They're totally dysfunctional. Nothing as elegant as an iPod, with the possible exception of Pioneer's portable radios for XM. Even the car radio's are clunky.

The Tivoli Model Satellite is the one exception to the ugly, under-performing Satellite Radio rule. The sound is about as good as it gets. Indeed, almost too good since it really points up the excessive compression used by both satellite and commercial FM broadcasters. You won't notice this difference until you play an uncompressed CD or MP3 file from your iPod through the AUX port on the Tivoli. Wow! What an amazing sound out of such small speakers. And I don't even have the subwoofer speaker accessory.

The Sirius section works great. It's easy to program. It's got a great "Memo" feature to capture the name and artist of 20 songs you'd like to look up later.

I did invest in a serious outdoor Sirius Antenna prior to the arrival of the Tivoli, so it was just a matter of plugging it in. The FM and AM sections worked fine without any external antennas. It's impressive that they include a serious external AM antenna something I haven't seen packaged with table radios since the 1970s, and then only expensive "audiophile" models.

As noted by others, the Satellite and AM/FM functions aren't at all integrated. This is basically the Tivoli Model 1 with a Satellite function tacked on as an afterthought.

The huge, bright, multi-line display is awesome at providing all of the information you want at a glance, with a minimal amount of annoying left-to-right scrolling. While the display does automatically adjust to ambient light (a feature that can be turned off and on) it may be too bright for the bedside table for some people.

The Tivoli Model Satellite is to radio what a beautiful 52" flat panel plasma display is to HDTV. It's the best audio you can get for satellite, possibly short of a console deck connected to studio monitors. But, again, given the various compression artifacts on Satellite radio (and the compression is often horrible on talk-only channels) this may be about as good as you dare get.

Unless you have space limitations, it's kind of a waste to spend so much money on a radio only to have mono sound, so plan on buying the (right channel) speaker for stereo.

I have no problem that they didn't include a CD player. An integrated mechanical device would only shorten the useful life of the unit. As just a radio it should last 10-20 years if you're trying to justify the high price tag.

Will Sirius be around in 10-20 years? I don't know. We also hear talk of HD radio coming to AM/FM (but then we've heard about HDTV for 20 years too and it's still not here).

At this price point, it would have been nice if there's been a time-shift feature, sort of a digital VCR (DVR) feature to record shows you want to hear later.

The remote is pretty awful for such an expensive radio, it's just a cheap "membrane" type remote. Inexplicably I got a real remote with my Kenwood Sirius car radio (what good a remote does in the car is beyond me).

Let's hope with the merger of the two satellite services they make more of an effort to create better looking, more functional hardware AND clean up their sound quality. I'd rather they have half as many channels with better sound and produce better programs that are re-run several times a day.

I was initially quite skeptical about satellite radio. Then, I saw the Tivoli in an advertisement and decided to take a chance. I was very pleasantly surprised with the radio and the Sirius satellite service. I've brought the radio to my office and can enjoy commercial free music throughout the work day. The sound from this small, mono radio is remarkably clear and powerful. This includes both high and low range sounds. The remote control is compact and easy to use; actually, I prefer the remote, since the buttons on the radio are small. You can store 20 of your favorite satellite stations for easy access. Even FM stations sound great, but I rarely listen since the satellite stations are much better. The Sirius lineup is excellent, and it truly is commercial free music. (News and Talk stations have brief commercial breaks.) Overall, I definitely recommend the Tivoli satellite radio (and Sirius satellite radio).

This is a gorgeous little radio but... there is no way to adjust the tone. I feel the sound is WAY too bass-y. The power source is cumbersome and impossible to hide out of site. I just hate all of those ugly wires. The control buttons are hard to read unless you have good light and put your nose right up to it. There is really no satellite equipment that is asthetically pleasing right now so I guess this is the best one out there if this is important to you.

My Nightstand was a mess!Until I bought this! I originally had a sirius reciever, a huge radio from cambridge soundworks all on one tiny nightstand. It was so cluttered. That I knew it was time to get some kind of an "All in One" device.

I laid eyes on this Tivoli, and I was hooked. I just got it Today, and It sounds incredible. I know there is an extra speaker/subwoofer available for this unit, but the built in speaker is enough to fill my entire bedroom w/ great sound.

The built in FM Tuner has INCREDIBLE reception, haven't tested the AM yet, but I'm sure that it'll will be just as good. I also have my iPod hooked up through the Auxillary input on the back.

And It takes up Hardly any space on my nightstand!

Overall, I'd highly recommend this system for anyone that want's all of there music sources in one compact device, that produces incredible sound.

Only gripe I have w/ the Radio is that the Remote doesn't have a volume control on it (but it does have a mute button).

Go with this Radio, and you won't be disappointed! Now we just need Sirius to come out w/ a fully portable walkman type unit and we'll be all set!

This wasn't the cheapest device I found on Amazon, but by-far the best in comparison with the two. This device works with no problem what-so-ever, the battery holds it's charge, and the functions are wonderful. That said, once I did slide the sd card in and it went in between the slot and the plastic and I did have to unscrew it to recover the card.

I did use a small amount of solder to tin the wires before installing and tightening the screws as power cables with tiny individual threads tend to pull free of these type connectors. After tinning (again not making a metal jacket but just enough to see a slight color change in the wire) the wires were tight and wouldn't pull out with the toughest handling. Review will be for installation only...hopefully I will be able to give a better rating on actual product use...a mechanically inclined friend of mine helped with the installation...right from the get go...there were issues...very poorly laid out installation instructions...bolts supplied were barely adequate...info on installing synthetic rope were non existant....once completely installed..the winch is mounted securely on the machine's frame..having two operation switches is handy...remote cord connection mounted in glove box along with remote cord & handle...as mentioned review is for installation only..giving it a one star rating...hopefully the unit performs as advertised because I wouldn't want it to let me down in Utah's back country...

I can't comment on the longevity of the unit, having just finished installing and testing, but everything went together as it should and I was, overall and considering the price, impressed with the quality of the items in the package with the winch...with two exceptions. The circuit breaker assembly is all metal with no stock way to bolt it to something solid (which usually means metallic), so the intended installation method appears to be to connect it to the hot wires and anchor it by tie-wrapping the wiring, with the breaker wrapped up in foam or tape so that it doesn't short on something metallic. That was unacceptable to me, so I used an inexpensive plastic encased circuit breaker intended for bolted mounting to metal (you can buy them on Amazon). The installation manual is also poorly written, but if you understand how a solenoid works the installation is straightforward. I've read some reviews that said that the winch was "too complicated" to install. That really is not the case. A bit of reading on the web to learn how a solenoid works is required a solenoid is just an electrically operated switch. Learning that will allow the installer to jury-rig a fix in the field or to make any modifications to the Superwinch installation instructions that they want to incorporate (like in my case not installing the handlebar mounted rocker switch, wiring the winch such that it will operate without the ignition to the UTV being turned on, swapping two wires so that the winch turns in the correct direction when the handheld remote button IN button is pushed). The other option to greatly simplify the required wiring is to purchase a winch with an integrated solenoid, like the WARN 93700 3700 DC Winch basically it just requires a positive and negative wire from the battery to the winch. Unfortunately, at least at the time of the writing of this review there were no winches to be found anywhere of about the size of the Terra 45, with synthetic line and an integrated solenoid. This gauge works well and is easy to read. It seats well and does mostly what it should.

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding from what I have read in other reviews. Let's clear a few things up.

First of all, you do NOT have to wait ten seconds between readings. You DO have to hit the recall button on the bottom between readings.

Secondly, you DO NOT have to send the unit back to replace the batteries. The instructions VERY clearly state the model number of user replaceable batteries (if you were to read the instructions).

The hose was flexible for me in 30 degree weather contrary to what I have read elsewhere. Maybe it gets stiff in really cold weather but then I use mine in the garage.

Very Nice Gauge

I had the same problem described by R. Nielsen. The gauge would not take a new reading after I pressed the release valve to let air out. It only took a new reading if it was removed from the tire completely and reconnected. I called the manufacturer, who told me that it sounded like a problem and that I should return the gauge to them for a replacement. I returned it to Amazon as defective and got a new one with the same problem. I contacted the manufacturer again and they again asked me to send the gauge in for a replacement. I have sent the gauge to the manufacturer at my expense. The second replacement also had the problem. Customer service told me that they had sent the second replacement from the wrong batch/crate.

Six weeks later (November 27th) I received a properly functioning gauge. So it seems that a properly manufactured example of this gauge really does work properly. There was just a very large run of defective ones. At this point, I would give this item 3 stars: 4 for performance and price, minus one for the hassle involved in getting one that isn't defective.

I like this gauge. For the price, it is efficient and accurate. Yes the hose is a bit stiff, but hardly more than a minor annoyance. As for any leaks, I have had none (so far). The fitting over the tire valve stem seems just fine to me. Just get it on snugly; grips the stem just fine. I also simply bleed the pressure out of the gauge between readings and all is good to go for the next reading, so not sure what others here are talking about when they say they need to press the recall button. I only use that for calibration. In addition, I do not understand what one other reviewer was referring to when having to wait 10 seconds between reads... As I bleed, sure, the pressure reading is not accurate, but once you stop the bleeding while using the bleed valve, the current pressure is immediately updated for me...

Overall, definitely recommended, at least for now. If that changes, I'll be sure to update here.

December 7, 2010 UPDATE: 3 years later, this is still working flawlessly! No leaks, battery still good.

May 6, 2012 UPDATE: Still working great; almost 5 years owning it. I did have to replace the batteries in late 2011.

After reading the other reviews here on Amazon I was a little apprehensive. It did appear that the more negative reviews were the older ones. The company that makes the gauge itself has also switched hands so I took a chance.

The gauge is fast and accurate. You have both a digital readout and a bar readout around the circumference that is reminiscent of an analog gauge. The digital readout gives you a reading to a tenth of a pound and is MUCH larger and easier to read than the bar around the outside edge. The readout changes on the fly even while bleeding air. The hose is very soft and flexible. The connection on the end is awesome. The seal is great. Not ONCE have I bleed air unintentionally while trying to make a seal. The clip is solid. You can clip it on to the stem and let go and it holds on tight. The blue backlighting is bright and even.

I have no idea why you would want to clip it on and monitor the pressure for more than a second but you can if you like. The hose also remains pressurized after you disconnect it from the tire. This permits you to stare at the reading for up to one full minute. You can tap the bleed valve to reset the gauge or just plug it into the next tire and the pressure equalizes with the tire to give you the new reading. You do not have to hit a reset button (The reset button picture in the product image is now just the ON button. There is no reset button). The only time you have to press the bleed valve to get a reading is if you leave pressure in the hose and let the device go into standby while still pressurized. When you turn it on with pressure in the hose the display reads "BL" prompting you to press the bleed valve before taking a reading.

The bleed valve button is easily usable while holding the gauge in the left hand. It does not bleed air terribly fast but you are apparently considering the purchase of a tire pressure gauge with a decimal point; you are obviously are O-C-D enough to want to do it right. Of course the readout is not accurate while it is bleeding. Is an analog gauge? No. You have to let the bleed valve close to get an accurate reading.

The flexible hose is a blessing and a nuisance. It's great because it allows you hold the gauge comfortably and easily see the readout when the tire stem is in an awkward position. On the downside it means you have to use two hands to take a reading. My old gauge was a little one piece analog number that allowed me to press it to the tire stem while holding the compressor hose in the other. On the whole the benefit outweighs the disadvantage for me.

The gauge is larger than I expected. Including the rubber grip/padding around the outside it is about 2 and 5/8 inches across and 1 and 3/8 inches deep. I'm a six foot tall guy and it fits very comfortably in my hand. It may be too large to hold solidly if you have small hands. The hose is 12 inches long which sounds unnecessary but it's actually just right.

Lastly... It's an LCD display. This means that it's polarized. It is viewable from all normal angles. It is not visible when viewing from a steep angle above or from very steep angles on the sides or from below. You can't see it if you're wearing polarized sunglasses. It's far from a problem. You will not have trouble reading the display under any normal circumstances.

Final thoughts: It's a quality product. Buy it.

To be honest I had second thoughts of getting this gauge because of a lot of negative reviews, glad I discounted them, either because some seem not to know how to operate the gauge or some earlier units had some battery troubles, maybe the fault lays of listing the "oldest reviews" before the newest.

I will admit I am somewhat anal about pressure in my tires maybe because being a motorcycle rider for the last 30 years or because I just brought new tires for my car for $120 a piece filled with free nitrogen, I wanted to see if the nitrogen pressure did hold until the next tire rotation, (8,000 miles) see if it drops any less than plain air, it holds way better than regular air, less than 1/2 lb.

This gauge is really made well, works flawlessly, so easy to read with that blue digital screen, seems accurate I mean reading in tenths of a pound !

One of the best things about it ? the only tire pressure gauge I ever owned that doesn't lose air from the tire as you set the valve on the stem of the tire, this is a first for me, all gauges leak a bit when setting on valve, not this one, I just hold it on a read the gauge, one might hear the tiniest of a hiss when releasing the valve and hose off the tire valve, truly amazing, I love this gauge I would have paid $50 for it !

The only gauge one needs, remember up to 60 lbs, psi, if one has to measure tire pressure of 61 or higher forget this gauge it's made to read up to 60 lbs, anything more which I tried, the screen doesn't even light up over 60 lbs. (they should make a different model to read above 60 lbs, for large work vans and large suv's) check your air pressure "plate" mounted in all cars, trucks, driver side door frame, this is what you need to put in the tires on your model car, if you have the same type tires, never use the MAX air pressure, stamped on the tire side wall your checking.

Remember this gauge has a timer on it, if one takes too long going from the front to the rear of the car, unscrewing the tire valves, bleeding out the air from the last tire you checed, it will "time-out" the unit will turn off, you must turn on the gauge, button at top of gauge, at this point make sure your reading 0.0, if your not press on the "bleeder valve" to make sure all the air is out ! if you hold or push it too long it switches from psi to metric, easy to flip back, just hold it a little longer, one other tip, again make sure you "bleed out" all the air of the tire you just got a reading on, before you test the next tire, tire gauge must read "0.0" lbs to check pressure, pretty simple enough !
