Swift Hitch SH01 Portable Wireless Camera System

No more fighting with your spouse when you hitch up the trailer. I think my wife actually gets some perverse satisfaction out of our hitching sessions. That makes one of us. So when she steps back into the house to grab a jacket (or whatever that "one more thing" is that keeps us from leaving), I quickly snap the magnetic camera onto the tailgate and hitch up the trailer before she makes it back outside.

Yes, it's that fast.

The image quality is great. The display is very clear. You can even reverse the picture to correct for the "my left or the camera's left?" challenge. My only complaint is that there is a little static as you get farther away from the camera (or if the charge is low).

I bought this camera for a specific reason (not to avoid the hitching wars with my wife, because that's actually kind of fun--kind of). The spaces in my RV storage yard are very close together and I have a very bad blind spot on the curb-side of the trailer. This happens to be the side that swings wide when I pull out of my space. One time the rear corner of my trailer hit the mirror of the RV parked next to me. So I bought this camera in hopes of correcting that blind spot.

Although my awning arms are aluminium, there's just enough metal hardware for the camera's magnet to stick to. Then as I'm pulling out of my space (or backing in), I can see how close I'm getting to my neighbor's RV. The picture quality isn't great at that distance, but it's still good enough to help me avoid any more close calls.

I kind of doubt the claim of 300' range. Mine has never worked at even half that distance. I'm lucky to get a signal from the rear end of my 30' trailer, but I'm sure there's a big difference between unobstructed line of sight coverage and bouncing the signal around my trailer and over the bed of my truck (probably about 40'). Honestly though, there's slight signal loss just from sticking it on my tailgate ten feet away.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the product. It's not cheap, but it's a lot cheaper than buying another mirror for my neighbor's RV.

I too agree with the other positive reviews on this item, however, there is room for improvement. I needed it to hitch up my RV trailer and for backing up my trailer on the blind sides.

The magnetic camera would not stick to my trailer's aluminum and fiber glass walls. I researched this unit on the net before buying it from another vendor on ebay. The reason being that my unit, same as the one here, came with a complimentary custom storage bag for the unit & all it's accessories, & a suction cup adaptor for the camera which sticks to any part of my trailer. The suction cup adaptor solved any location placement issues I had with the camera & worked great for my trailer.

The other issue is the charging of the camera & monitor. The unit only came with a 12 volt charger for your vehicle, no ac charger, & the unit requires to be fully charged before first use. It is not practical to drive around for hours charging your unit in your vehicle until it is charged. I solved that problem using a Wagan 5 Amp AC to 12V DC Power Adapter I had previously purchased on amazon for about $20. This way I can always charge the unit at home before any outing I need the unit for.

One other useful trick I discovered, which came in handy, is the video out cable the unit came with. The monitor's 2.5" screen is a bit small for backing the trailer on a the blind side next to my block wall I have nearly missed several times in the past. I simply hook the video out cable from the 2.5" monitor to my high resolution Sony 8" portable dvd player & instantly have an 8" screen to look at instead of the 2.5" mini screen. You can hook up the 2.5 monitor to a TV or any other monitor with a video plug in.

This is a great little unit. Color screen is clear and easy to see. And the instant night vision lets you see clearly at night. I like the magnetic base to mount the camera; you can place it about anywhere. The range surprised me; I have used the screen over 300 feet from the camera.

This thing has more uses then just backup. I use it to monitor my horses in the trailer while driving down the road. And I have used it to keep an eye on cargo in the back of my truck. A++ worth the money.

I do like this camera and have used it once to hook up my small travel trailer. As others have mentioned, an improvement would be to have a wide angle camera view until you get closer to your target. I did find that sun glare and shadows affected my view. I quickly found one other handy use for it too: I can view the fill level on my water tank inside the camper when I'm filling up without having to stop and start constantly to go inside and check the water level.

You'll note an upgraded model offered with a longer battery life and case and suction mount included for about $40 more at the time of this review. I ordered SH02 for the extras as I also plan to use the unit to video monitor the outside of my camper trailer while parked at the campsite at night. The newer version claims to extend the battery life of the camera from 4 to 10 hours. If you don't need the extra battery life, suction mount or case SH01 should be just fine. I'm recently disabled and hoping this unit helps me hook up the pop-up and get mobile again. JEc

One issue people previously had with this product is that the mini-usb power connector was made of too brittle plastic and would break. This happened to me over the weekend. I sent them an email Sunday night and by Monday morning they had emailed me back asking my address to send replacement. Free of charge they rush shipped me two replacement mini-usb connectors wrapped in a new carry case. Sent Monday, arrived today (Wednesday). Wow!! Also the new mini-usb's sent to me are of the molded, more durable type so they have already updated their product.

This model (2000 mAH) will charge my Creative Zen 2gb mp3 player to full while I'm using it continuously and then still have about 3/4 of a charge leftover. Alternatively, I can get 2 full charges (as advertised) out of it if not using the player while charging. This may not be true of the lower power models. I looked at a lot at units like this before buying and every product seems to have complaints about how much juice it holds or quality of the battery. Obviously mileage may vary according to the device you're charging. This one is very attractive, well featured (has charge indicator, lots of connector tips, attractive carry case, car charger that also works for other devices etc.) and it works great. While it doesn't have a tip for my Samsung cell phone, I can use the standard USB receiver to connect it to my regular charger cord and it does a great job on that too. Only thing it needs is a belt clip or belt clip carry case. It does come with a spiral cord stretchy cable so it can go in your pocket and reach to wherever your player or phone is without sloppy cable to get caught on stuff.

Quality of battery seems excellent this company specializes in electric cars, handicap scooters, atv's etc so I'm confident in the quality of the battery. I added a cigarette lighter (wired direct to battery) in my motorcycle sadlebag for my phone charger, this allows me to just plug in without having to remove the seat or add another wire to my battery post(another opportunity to short!) I want to point out, if your looking for one of those pigtails that is the more universal (battery tender style) plug, this is not it. I have the NOCO, I don't know if it works with anything else, but it does not use the standard 2 wire trailer plug that many others use.

They say to pull the existing mats and fit them in but as long as you make sure they're in snug, I dropped them right over my existing mats. The plastic isn't the strongest in the world (thin) but I think this will do the job. Particularly like the piece that fits across the whole back seat. Worth the money (I paid over $100 for them) in my opinion. Just take them out and wash them off and drop them back in.

In my last vehicle, I purchased Weathertech floor mats. I almost did the same thing when I bought my 4Runner, but I found the Husky liners to be significantly less expensive.

These fit perfectly in my 2011 4Runner. What I like about these that I didn't have in my Weathertech mats is a lip on the outside of the mat that extends over the threshold of the door. This keeps sand, dirt, water, etc from dropping down in that area.

So far, the snow and water have been manageable, too.

The only downside to these types of mats (and this goes for all the types of these mats) is that it's difficult to remove them without dumping some of the dirt back into your vehicle.

That being said, when i purchase another vehicle, I will look to Husky again

I bought this dock/holder to replace one used for an iPhone 4 that was not compatible with an iPhone 5. So far the dock has worked just fine. It holds the phone in a stable position and has never rotated in the power outlet. It is a bother to have to attach two cables (power and audio) when using the phone but that can be blamed on Apple for changing the power connector.

I use this to hold my IPhone5. It fits! The slide adjustment is easy to work. The holder is strong and does not make me feel like my phone is going to be tossed around on a bumpy road. I have not used the power aspect of the unit, so I cannot rate its ability to re-charge the phone. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a good car phone holder.

I bought the Powerex Stealth charger with the 3 Powerex batteries plus 1 single battery so I would have 4 batteries for my wife's Shure dual mic system she uses at home to sing karaoke. After a little less than a year all four batteries have bit the dust. One at a time the batteries refused to recharge and now all are bad, red lights on the charger flash and no recharging takes place. The batteries probably have less than 50 charge cycles on them, advertisement claims "hundreds" of charge cycles.

I work with audio production and needed rechargeable 9V batteries for my wireless transmitters and receivers. Those batteries didn't work at all with my Seinheiser transmitters and worked only for a short time with my receivers. I just called Maha Energy (the manufacturer) who told me they'd replace the charger and batteries. But since the charger seems to be working fine, I'm having doubts that I got 4 malfunctioning batteries. What are the odds of that happening? Anyway, just thought I'd let you know so you don't go through the same hassle I did. I guess I should stick with the renown brands even if they cost more.

I first bought this system for use with wireless microphones that eat 9vdc batteries and do not perform well with the 7.2 volt rechargable nicad cells. The problem has always been that with the same number of cells inside the 9v stack at 1.2 V instead of 1.5V you loose .3 V x 6 cells or 1.8 volts which drops the typical rechargable cell from 9V to 7.2 V.

Transmitters don't work well on 7.2 volts of typical rechargable "9v" batteries. You also tend to want a fresh charge on your battery before use which is where this product comes in.

It adds an extra cell to get you 9.5 volts which is typical of normal batteries.

The con: The batteries are only about 230-250 mah instead of the alkaline 500 mah so you do not get the same runtime. The charger is well made and indicates when the cells are charged.

These are recommended for use when you know that you want a charged battery and don't mind recharging it when done (example using it for a wireless mic). The higher voltage will make the product work well and you won't be wondering if the battery is fully charged or not you will know it is full every time. For people who use alot of 9V batteries, this will pay for itself in a short amount of time.

The product is built very good, the charger give you red and green lights to let you know the batteries are depleted or charged, I would give this product 5 stars if the batteries would power the security camera for about 4 hours, they last about 2-3 hours, but the camera signal is stable until the end of the charge. Bought this system to warm up my car before getting in during the winter. First of all, the command to start my vehicle works MAYBE 50% of the time. Secondly, there is no confirmation on whether your vehicle received the command or not, so generally, I trudge through the snow only to be surprised to find my truck still icy and unstarted. I've had to resort to using the keychain remote starter (instead of my iPhone) which completely negates the purpose of this overpriced piece of garbage. AVOID at all costs.

Just wanted to update my review....since my initial review above, Viper has released a new version of the software which now sends a confirmation back to you if your vehicle has received the command. This is night and day difference as compared to the old software. I would not hesitate to recommend thie Viper SmartStart system to anyone and am changing my review to 4 stars. (Minus 1 star for cost).

This SOUNDED like such an awesome idea. No keyfob to carry, unlimited range...price was a bit more than a traditional remote start, and annual service fees, but that seemed ok for the benefits.

Except that it only works about 25% of the time. It's not that you think the car is started, but it's not, it's very good about telling you when the start command is received by the car or not...it's just that it fails to send the command. My experience is no amount of retrying is going to make it work either, I've spent 30+ minutes hitting the button over and over (takes about a minute to timeout) and never had success. Either it works, or it's not going to work. The installer shop suggested I add on an antenna and keyfob remote since the cellphone interface is so unreliable. So I can pay MORE, and get less functionality...awesome.

I've seen other reports of people claiming they were told they've oversold capacity and can't keep up...but last I checked, they're STILL selling units and taking money, so I can't imagine things getting any better.

Wanted to update this earlier one star review because it's no longer accurate.

Viper has addressed whatever network issues they were having and now reliability is excellent for me. I still get "failure to connect" maybe 5% of the time, but a retry usually works.

One oddity, the "failure to connects" were at the 100% mark a few months ago, and when I gave up and contacted support, they sent me a link to download a special version of the app for my phone (EVO 4G) and all problems went away. Viper support has actually been pretty good.

All that being said, I'm updating my review to 4 stars. It's an excellent system when it works, and currently it's working great.

Support is non-existent. Once I was told "we've reset your system, it works now" and nothing changed. Two other requests for support went ignored.

It's a bit frustrating when you buy something like this so you won't have to scrape your windows and get into a cold car in the morning...and then you have to scrape your windows and get into a cold car. the only difference is now I've paid a lot of money for the privilege.

I did not purchase this on Amazon but rather bought it and had it installed by an authorized dealer. I was shown how to use it after installation and was thrilled by my new toy. Unfortunately, I would estimate that it only works about 10% of the time. I have found that whether or not the module receives service does not depend on the location as you would think, but it seems that regardless of where your vehicle is parked, service fades in and out. Now I am left with the predicament of whether to wait to see if coverage is improved as time goes on, or trying to return the item where I bought it and attempting to recover the installation cost as well as the $100 I already paid for three years of service.

Bought this 3 days ago at a local Best Buy and they installed it. Toatal after activating system $586.00 not a problem at all because I was so excited about this awesome piece of technology. The installer and I tested the unit before I left and it worked as advertised and I felt happy I purchased it. Happiness quickly turned to frustration when the next morning it was 30 degrees at 5AM when I get up for work and tried to start my suv and after 15 attempts nothing. I thought long and hard about buying a SmartStart unit. I found way too many negative reviews online. I decided to go for a regular remote car starter after reading all the poor reviews. Then, after 2 days of having to walk across my work building to start my vehicle, I thought screw it, I'll see if I can swap it out for the SmartStart after all. I live in Canada and had it installed at Future Shop. I had problems originally with the install, but I don't think the installer quite knew what he was doing. After taking the vehicle in 3 times at first, it hasn't failed since. I've had the SmartStart for 6 months now and it's worked EVERY SINGLE TIME. I love it! I'm sure I just jinxed myself by writing this review. Note: Vehicle must be located within ROGERS' network coverage in Canada, and AT&T in the US. Phone just needs any internet connection. I also paid an extra 60$ to have an antenna installed along with a keyfob. I did that in case I had problems. Haven't needed it yet. I highly recommend the SmartStart

The hook-up to the gps is a micro usb. When connected to my 5310, it recognizes it as being connected to a computer, which locks the screen. The gps isnt usable when connected. Not only this but the wall charger keeps getting caught in the socket, and makes some sparks when being plugged. It also makes an annoying humming noise, Im not sure if its electricity, or a fan in the charger itself but its very troubling. Even though it was cheap, and I took a gamble on buying it, I would like the things I purchase that say they work with my gps, to actually work with it.

I spent $25 on a universal GPS car charger at Radioshack a year ago, and it gave me nothing but problems in that time. So far, this charger worked right off the bat and aside from the cord being a little short, it is great.

The "Yuasa (Enersys) Genesis NP7-12T 12 Volt/7 Amp Hour Sealed Lead Acid Battery with 0.250 Fast-on Connector" is a nice, high quality battery. I got two of these batteries to replace the OEM battery pack in an APC Smart-UPS 700Net. After installation, I powered up the UPS and all worked well with the battery power level reading fully charged from the start. Batteries were supplied with plastic terminal covers (see photo). For two batteries, it was $39.97 delivered and a good price. All points being the same, I recommend this product.

Batteries were very well packed (see photo) and promptly shipped by Portable Power Systems, PPS.

My original battery in my APC powercell lasted 12 years (hard to believe). The replacement had the same quality workmanship as the original. The total time to replace the battery was 10 minutes. Perfect fit. No complaints so far.

Yuasu was the brand of battery that lasted 9 years in my home alarm system. I found out that it can also be used to replace APC's RBC2 replacement cartridges. The APC brand had a bad batch? which lasted only 1.5 to 2 years vs the original 4 to 5 years. I am replacing my APC replacement cartridges with the Yuasu as they give out. I guess I am saying that I am willing to pay more for a quality battery which lasts longer. However I won't know how well this battery will last. Just my experience with the one that lasted 9 years (albeit in a low backup use).

When I received the Yuasa Battery I found that I had ordered it with the wrong size connector. I called the company that had shipped it and asked what I could do to either make this battery work or return it for the right size. They were extremely nice and told me that they would mail me two clips to convert the connectors so that I could use the battery I had. I wanted a car stereo that allows for good quality hands-free phone calls over Bluetooth. This was the most important function I was looking for, and this unit doesn't disappoint at all. It is so easy to talk safely in my car now! I highly recommend it. I had it installed at Best Buy for a reasonable price, and they also installed the external microphone for me too (see below). This unit also has A2DP Bluetooth profile to stream music over Bluetooth and it works really well. A2DP profile is very hard to find on most Bluetooth car stereos.

PROS:

1) The quality of the hands-free calling is excellent! I can hear the callers very well through my car speakers (volume is loud and easy to hear!). Also, callers can hear me very well without any issues, even while driving at high speeds. Please note, that I use an external microphone Sony XAMC10 External Mic for BT (Black), which I highly recommend purchasing. Please see my review on that external microphone where I have added photos of where I suggest the optimal microphone placement is to get the best qualityi.e. to the left on the visor, which is close to your mouth). I didn't even use the built-in microphone (which is located on the stereo faceplate) because of the published bad reviews about the quality of the built-in microphone. I don't know if some of the issues people are having with hands-free call quality with this car stereo is related to not having an external microphone, or if they have one, whether it is placed in an optimal location.

2) When a phone call comes in, and you're listening to music (even when you're listening to music over Bluetooth via A2DP), the music pauses, and the phone call comes through. When the phone call ends, the music starts right back up. Very smooth.

3) Regarding calling someone in your phonebook, this Sony car stereo unit has PBAP Bluetooth profile, which my Android phone also has. So, the phonebook gets loaded into the car stereo. You hit the search button on the car stereo, and then find the first letter of the person you want to dial, then find the contact and hit the call button. It's not that hard. You could also dial directly from your phone. I've tried voice dialing using my Android phone, and it's hit or miss, since it doesn't always recognize who I want to call (this is the fault of my software on the Android phone, and not the Sony car stereo).

4) I have an Android phone (HTC Thunderbolt) and it connects very easily via Bluetooth to this stereo. I only had to pair it once (when I bought it)!! When I go into my car, I turn on my stereo, then turn on the Bluetooth on my phone, and they pair up in seconds, ready for calls and music. Amazing!

5) This stereo has A2DP Bluetooth profile, which lets you stream music over Bluetooth, if your phone also has this Bluetooth profile. I love this feature, which is very hard to find on most major car stereos! The quality is great. No cords to connect. I don't mind this at all, but when you stream music over Bluetooth, you have to use the phone to control the song selection (i.e. song names don't appear on the car stereo faceplate). I like this better, since the faceplate only has 1 line and it's hard to read and control song names anyway. Since this car stereo has AVRCP Bluetooth profile also, you can pause, rewind, fast forward, move to next song, and move to prior song using the car stereo faceplate. Awesome! I found that using the PowerAmp program on Android, I get full control over songs using the car stereo. However, if I want to go to a different album or playlist, etc... you have to change it from the phone, which like I said, is actually much easier and I prefer it.

-I also play audiobooks using Audible, and it works really well, and you can use the Sony unit's controls to fast forward and rewind.

-I play podcasts over Bluetooth using BeyondPod and it works well. The controls on the Sony car stereo have a bit less control when using BeyondPod (I can't rewind or fast forward for some reason; although I think that program is supposed to have that support).

-Finally, Google Navigation commands will go through Bluetooth streaming too. If you're playing a song, the song won't pause, but the song will mute, and you'll hear the Google Navigation voice prompt. Once the Navigation voice prompt finishes, the song will resume. Pretty nice. I wasn't able to test what happens when you make a phone call, while you're playing music, and using Navigation all at the same time! I would hope that the phone call would take priority over the other two.

CONS:

1) Many have mentioned the bright lights on the unit. I will post some photos of how it looks at day and night (see photos on the main product page; I can't add photos to this review). This unit has 2 faceplate illumination color options (blue or red), so you can change the color. I find blue to be way too bright at night, so I keep it on red, which is not disturbing at all. There is one white colored light (search button) that you can't adjust the color or brightness, which can get annoying. I was thinking about painting it to cover up the brightness, but it doesn't bother me that much anymore, since I'm used to it now.

2) When I connect my Android phone to the stereo via USB cable, you can play music that way. The song titles appear on the car stereo, but it's very hard to navigate given the small screen!! I only tried this once, and haven't used it since. That is why I like the Bluetooth streaming, because I can just control song selection from my phone. I don't have an iPhone or an iPod, so I can't comment on how those work with this unit.

The MEXBT3900U has a significant increase in features over the model which it replaces, the MEXBT3800U. I know this because I have one of each. The 3900 adds features like a 7-band equalizer and an advanced balance/fader control that allows you to pinpoint the perfect listening spot within the car. It also adds phone features, like the ability to upload your contact list, and allow you to scroll through recent and favorite sections of your call list. It also has the ability to set one-touch dialing presets (if you can figure out how to set it up--more on that later.) The button / control layout has been simplified and improved, with a noticable increase in ease of use.

I did tons of comparison shopping across brands and models. This Sony is by far the best choice if you 1) want to add bluetooth to your car for phone calls and for audio streaming, 2) want to retain a CD player, 3) you don't care about having a touch screen or navigation, 4) you don't need 30,000 color choices or fancy display graphics unrelated to the music, and 5) two color choices (red & blue) will do fine.

TO assure clarity of you phone calls, you will want to add the external microphone. I know it costs $30 more. But even when you add that in, it still beats out other choices which may have included external mics. If you're going to install it yourself, you will want to get the plastic panel removal tools. The headaches they prevent will be worth far more than their cost.

Nits: 1) The bluetooth lacks the audio quality of the USB connection. This isn't a Sony problem, its a bluetooth problem. Just don't be surprised. Get the bluetooth for convenience purposes and not for audio quality purposes. 2) The Sony is very finicky about how the iPhone / iPod connection is made. MAKE SURE you turn the unit completely off before you connect via USB and before you disconnect the USB and you will have no problems. 3) You may have difficulty setting the phone one-touch-deial presets. Setting these guys requires that the phone be able to send info via SMS, and my iPhone 3Gs cannot do this. So I'm SOL on using the presets. Not a dealbreaker, but annoying nonetheless.

The good stuff:

Nice FM tuner that shows artist and song title and station info. Seek works well.

The USB and aux stereo plugs on front work fine. A USB flash drive picked right up and played. It did not power my external 2.5" USB laptop drive, so i use a cigarette lighter to USB adapter to get it to work. There is a limit to the number of files the deck can handle read the manual. I have about 60gb of MP3s available to me and it is usable.

Note that there is a pair of RCA plugs on the back marked "BUS In". However! You cannot just plug anything in there. You have get a "unlink auxiliary adapter" which is basically just a loopback device that fools the deck into thinking something is plugged into the unilink port and thereby enables the RCA inputs. Or you can buy the Sony XA-300 which gives you 2 RCA inputs and a USB port

Sound The best part of this deck! It doesn't seem to say in the specs here on amazon or elsewhere just how MANY sound adjustments there are: High pass filter for main speakers, low pass filter/level for the Sub output, a 7 band EQ, MP3 audio enhancement, and more. Different EQ settings for each source which is a nice touch. Alpine makes you buy a $150 add-on "processor" to do the same stuff. Go download the user manual from Sony. 9/10.

Bluetooth It synched right up to my Droid 2 and plays Stereo audio over bluetooth, displays, searches and dials contacts AND recent calls right on the deck. pretty cool. 9/10

It has a built in MIC on the front but you may want to plug a mic into the 1/8" jack in back and run a wire up to your visor for better clarity.

The quirks:

MP3 PLAYBACK / Search

As seems typical of most decks still the search and display of MP3s is awkward. (after 10 years of MP3's in car stereos why is this still terrible??) By now everyu deck should let you see/browse similar to an Ipod as it is the defacto standard and easy to navigate.

When you hit search it doesnt start at the folder you are in, it starts at the top of the folder tree over again. It's best to search while parked. It takes your eyes off the road too long if you havea lot of music.

You only get 10 characters of the folder/track name then it slowly scrolls the rest of the track title when you stay on it for a bit. I think it has a faster processor in it than some, so at least this deck is quick about scrolling through track titles on USB devices. 7/10 for MP3 support overall.

LIGHTING:

Many cars have a dimmer circuit for the stereo so it dims when headlights come on. This deck isn't wired for that. It has a dimmer on/off, which dims only the LCD. so i dont bother. Despite all these lights there is NO lights on the alternate functions for preset 1-6. These control last/next album, pause etc. Ill have to just memorize it since i cant see it at night.

You can change buttons to red or blue. However the Volume knob, search and back buttons are always white. I used red to lower overall brightness. At least it doesnt have a crazy distracting animated show like some decks have. Overall 8/10.

INSTALLATION:

Install was easy just the usual speaker/power/AMP turn on and RCA plugs to my amp. all industry standard colors.

The only annoyance during install: The mounting bracket that holds the deck in the dash only has about 10 bendable cutouts to mount it. On my car NONE of then line up to where it will hold it securely they are too far back. I ended up using a few small zipties to make it work.

OVERALL:

I've bought 2 Kenwoods and an Alpine in my search for a new stereo. This is first i haven't decided to return the first day i installed it. The kenwoods were loud but had mediocre MP3 support. The alpine was ok but slow, and for a $200 deck to have only a bass/treble EQ ??? forget that.

Good stuff> Just installed it and everything seems to work as expected. Bluetooth works great with my iPhone4, including audio streaming and phone functions. USB port also works well with the iPhone and you can either control from the stereo or from the iPhone. RDS picks up the artist/song from the radio and shows a * if the FM station supports it. I like having the 6 save buttons on the front for radio stations & phone numbers.

Could have been better> some of the controls are not obvious and you have to memorize whether you need to hold a button down for 1 sec or click a button or ... I suppose this will become easier once I have used it for a while. You can't save phone numbers to the preset buttons using an iPhone. I needed to find a phone that supports "share contact using bluetooth". There is no one at Sony that understands this, evidently. It seems to me since the stereo downloads my whole contact list, that I should be able to just assign a contact to a preset just like you assign a radio station (just hold down the button) -but you can't . (1/2 star)

Weird stuff> The remote works great, but you can't switch between using the remote and the stereo buttons. If I turn on the unit on the panel, then the remote does not work. If I turn it on with the remote, then the panel does not work (except for OFF in both cases). This seems unnecessary and a bit strange. (1/4 star)

Unfortunately> The volume knob was not working and I need to send back for free replacement. Works fine from the remote, so it is probably a problem with the front panel. But, I need to disconnect the whole thing and ship it to get a replacement. (1/2 star)

Details> Jeep Grand Cherokee 1998 with Infinity sound system. Just replacing the stereo and interfacing with the Infinity amp works fine if you connect the Power Antenna/Amp Jeep wire to the APM REM on the Sony (part of the standard wiring harness) & hook the Sony ground to the Infinity amp ground. Final word: if Sony would update the firmware to fix some of the above annoying problems, then this would be a 5-star stereo. Still, for less than one-fifty, it's a good purchase.

THis is a very good unit for the price. Lots of good features and the Bluetooth functions were great! All of the various input options helped make the unit very flexible for me, and I love using the bluetooth speakerphone. I stream Pandora and Slacker from my Android phone and it works great.

However, there is this insanely bright white button that is used for searching that will absolutely blind you at night! There is no way to dim it either. You can dim the text display, but not any of the backlighting on the buttons. Very stupid! I ended up using my wifes black fingernail polish to paint over the button except for a very small section so that it would not blind me while I was driving at night.

Night video leaving a gas station. Not too great quality wise but I guess if you were involved in an accident, I guess it would be better than nothing. As you can see in the video, unless you're close to light sources or other cars, you'll just get blobs of light, can't really tell what's what.

Pros:

*Suction cup mount for windshield holds pretty tight (better than my GPS mount, which would fall often), even tugging at it wouldn't budge it.

*The actual camera screws into the mount, like a digital camera does onto a mount.

*Once memory is full, it overwrites older data.

*Car charger cord is pretty long; I can probably run it through my headliner into the dash so its not in the way.

*3 recording options: 2 minutes/5 minutes/15 minutes

Cons:

*Not true HD on highest setting.

*Highest setting results in choppy recording\playback.

*Night time recording not very good, unless you're close to other cars or in well lit areas.

*Not too many options (Just video size, light frequency, audio record, timestamp).

*All video resolutions can't record little details such as license plate number, car make\model badging.

Overall, the camera is decent. Daytime is alright. You can't really see license plate numbers or signs during the day, even on the highest quality setting. Those little details get blurred out. Even when behind a vehicle at a stoplight, I found it hard to make out the license plate number from the LCD and video. Zooming in would further worsen the quality and made the license plate impossible to read.

The highest setting isn't true HD (everything is still blurred\pixelated, just a bigger picture size), and playback is slow while on the setting which makes it pretty useless. Every other second, you see the lag while it records, and it shows when you play it back.

Another issue is the lens; there is too much fisheye effect at times. It might be my placement, but I will try different configurations and edit the review as necessary. But in a nutshell, cars\bikes that have been dangerously close look like they're much farther away.

The microphone is a bit sensitive; it catches many noises as you can hear in the video. The video is with the windows up, and with the A/C on low setting. Much worse with the windows down. I don't think it can record a conversation without being obscured by background noises very well.

The seller I got the camera from included an SD card reader with my order. It did not work very well on my laptop (Windows 7) but it worked better on my XP. I instead, plugged in the camera through the USB to my Windows 7 laptop and was able to view\upload videos from the SD card that way without hassling with the SD card reader.

Overall, its a neat little gadget. Its not the best, but the quality for daytime recording is acceptable. I plan to keep it and use it daily until I can find a suitable replacement.

I watch a lot of video on similar products before purchase, most of the video are good, but I can not find any video of camera facing sun, so here is the one for you.

The video is acceptable for the price, but I don't think is in real HD mode. the 2 minutes video clip is about 80 MB, 4 GB SD card can do the job.

i took a chance on this camera, both based on the reviews and the fact that i have other chinese security cameras that work well. first let me say, all of these chinese cameras have horrible directions. they are often wrong and hard to read, so you basically have to figure it out yourself. however, after i got the camera set up, the video is pretty good. it gets a little choppy at times but i like the camera and may buy another. you can also set the mode to be a camera, up to 15 mega pixels and it will take still photos. the camera says it has audio with a built in microphone, i tinkered with this only a few minutes then decided to turn off the audio. i couldnt hear anything in my test videos, so the audio may or may not work. i have only had the camera a day so i will update my review if i find any issues. here are some helpful tips for you to set up the camera:

1) first, change the language to english, it is in chinese by default. hit the buttons in this order:

menu > mode > down > down > menu > then up/down to find english. hit the menu to save.

2) the mode button switches between video, picture and playback.

3) also, the resolution in the manual is wrong. the camera lets you pick vga, qvga and sxga resolution, in that order. one would think that vga is the best or least, and then qvga is the middle. however, upon my testing, here is how i believe the order is, and their resolutions:

qvga 320x240, smallest and less choppy

vga 640x480, medium and more choppy

sxga 1280x1024, highest and very choppy

i have my camera set to qvga and the videos seem small but very watchable to me.

Video & Audio Quality is pretty decent. However, the unit stopped working after 4 months. One day, I noticed smoke coming out of the case, touched the camera and it was very hot, that was the end of the camera. Cheap electronics.

I got my camera today, i was very excided, but when i open the box, i knew this was a return item, some of the cables were not inside the plastic bag, the suction cup was dirty and the camera had some marks outside. When i turn on the camera the menu was in chinese, Them i try to go thru the menu and see if i could change it to english but the rec/snap button didn't work and the down button either. Of course i can't say this is a crappy product 100% because the image on the screen look good, and the accessories looks good too, but the camera itself is crappy. The price said it all, but it does what it supposed to do. Maybe if the product were brand new i wouldn't have any problem. I already print a return label to send it back, i don't if i would get the same camera again.
