Veho Muvi Pro Micro DV Camcorder with 4 GB Micro SD

Veho Muvi Pro Micro DV Camcorder with 4 GB Micro SDI bought two of these as replacements for the similar unit I've had for about 18 months that has broken. One of the ones I bought would never sync up with my computer, and was returned at no cost to me to Amazon. The other one works fine, and has a better resolution than my original unit. I am a Police officer, and use them to capture video and audio on traffic stops, as well as anytime I have need of recording statements or actions. The audio on them is better than the in car camera I have.

I have also used one clipped to a hat band at sporting events to record video. It works well.

Veho VCC003MUVIPRO Muvi Pro Micro DV Camcorder with 4 GB Micro SD

I have to say I'm very impressed with this! I previously used a large Hi8 tape cam but it's very obtrusive. I use this 99% of the time I ride my bike as it helps me review and improve my riding technique. With this cam being so small and barely visible, I can leave it mounted when I park my bike. With the optional clip, it pops right in and out and It slips right in my pocket. I can even clip it to my belt while walking and no one ever notice. Sweet!

The PRO model is true 30fps. 4Gb is sufficient because it records for 2 hours and only uses half the memory. Add a 8Gb mini SD for under $30.

The only negative is how long it takes to upload your clips to a computer.

Something this small with this much quality you can't beat!

I removed the previous video and replaced it with two different views.

The first was with the cam mounted on the tank and the second half I was able to mount it inside of my helmet. I thought it came out pretty good and my feelings remain the same about the versatility of this little camera. And it would really be nice to have the option to disable the time stamp!

Like most people, I bought this because it was small. It mount's to my vehicle's windshield easily and does not obstruct my view tucked up under my rear-view mirror. It seems well built, and easy to use. The included memory card provides a good amount of recording time, but it is very slow to transfer the videos to a computer through the internal USB, only about 1MB/s. You should get an SD adapter and use a card reader.

The main downside to this is the battery. It advertises a recording time of about 3 hours, but I struggle to get even one hour record time out of it. It can only fill the card if you stop to charge it between shooting, or if you run it on USB power. A $5 USB 12V to USB adapter works nicely for me, with a thin USB cable.

I found the included clip is nice, but it's not entirely useful. If you want to expand your mounting options, check out the RAM mount system. The RAM-B-238-VEN1U allows this to mount with a "B" size ball. Then you can stick it to almost anything depending on your base.

On the plus side, this camera looks well constructed. There are two switches, one for power and the other to activate the sound activation feature. There is also a little button on top to start recording manually.

The problem I experienced was unbearable background noise with every recording. I contacted Veho technical support and at their request sent them a sample. They said my recorder *was* defective and that I should return/exchange it. The attached video highlights the noise problem with both the original camera *and* the one Amazon sent as a replacement.

According to the manufacturer, some amount of background noise is expected. Let me provide their explanation, directly from their FAQ:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem: There seems to be a lot of sound interference (buzzing) on my recordings, even in a quiet room. Why is this?

Resolution: The level of noise that you are experiencing with the camera is normal. Due to the sound activation function on the Muvi Pro the microphone is extremely sensitive therefore it will always pick up noise even in a quiet room.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Me, I think it's nonsense. What noise, exactly, would a microphone pick of from a quiet room: Ghosts?

Another aside, mostly for people who already own this recorder is about the date/time stamp. It is permanent and cannot be remove (which goes back to it being permanent). It's also impossible to set unless you know how and nearly impossible to find out how. Here's how... Create a file named time.txt in the top level of the camera's memory. That would be alongside the folder named DCIM. You write in that file the date and time in the following format: 'YYYY.MM.DD HH:MM:SS' Leave off the quotes, don't put a "return" at the end, and the only space is between the two digits for the day (DD) and the two digits for the hour (HH). Turn the camera off and back on. If you did everything right the file will be gone and the time will be set.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. Please let me know if found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

I bought this camera for recording on-board video from my race car, and I'm not disappointed. After a half-season of racing, the Veho Muvi Pro is still going strong after being pelted with mud lap after lap. The video quality is very impressive for a camera of this price and size. Video wise, the only drawback seems to be that it struggles in low light. Usually this is not a problem for my purposes, as track lighting usually provides sufficient light, but a couple of times this year I have had grainy footage due to poor lighting and mounting location. When used around the house, sound can sometimes be a bit muffled, but when racing, the camera does an excellent job of capturing the sound of my engine, with little to no wind noise. Others have mentioned the video skipping just a bit, I've had a bit of this with the memory card shipped with it, but it's usually minor, and indications are that a better memory card eliminates this issue. Overall, this camera has done what I wanted it to do, and is at a low enough price that I can afford to put it in peril on the track. After seeing my videos, one of my competitors has already bought one for himself, as has an ultralight pilot that I know. The included video is a compilation of clips in different lighting conditions, to give you a real-world idea of how the camera performs. All in all, in my opinion it's a fine camera at a great price.

8 Tire RV Flow-Through Sensor Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

8 Tire RV Flow-Through Sensor Tire Pressure Monitoring SystemI installed these on my 45 foot tag axle motorhome. With 8 tires to keep track of the sensors are a time saver but the most important is the safety they provide. I have had an inside dual tire go flat on a prior RV and would have lost the entire RV without sensors. These sensors have never leaked like other brands, are easier to install, but I love the feature that allows me to add air without removing them. I am able too read all wheels without additional equipment. Only draw back is I haven't figured out how to use the anti-theft device. Use this system!

PUREX Technology DLX-55 Smartphone Car Charger/Holder with cigaratte socket - 4.3" to 5.5" Phone (S

PUREX Technology DLX-55 Smartphone Car Charger/Holder with cigaratte socket - 4.3' to 5.5' PhoneWhile this phone holder looks nice, and sturdy, whoever wrote the description for the product needs to change it. It does NOT fit the iPhone 4 as described. At the time of writing this review, in their descriptions, they had this line:

"Supports any size smartphone: iphone4 & 5/LG/HTC/Nokia/Blackberry, Samsung Galaxy S1/2/3/4, NOTE I/II"

So that's BS, the iPhone 4 does not fit this holder. Even on the box itself, it shows and lists the compatible devices for this holder. iPhones were not on that list.

The mount is adjustable for larger sized phones, but at its smallest setting, it's still too big for the iPhone 4 to fit.

This will be returned.

1-Star for false product details, and wasting my time.

This was aweful for my car. It was very big, bulky, and not sturdy. Every time I turned a corner, this thing turned with me. I have had other holder/chargers before and they were sturdy. I even checked the box again and looked to make sure it was secured as per the instructions. It was, it's just not a very good one. The only positive thing is that there are 2 USB ports to charge other items. For me, a waste of money. I am returning it.

This phone holder is pretty impressive from design and what it can do. First of all, I think it's clever to design the cigarette socket in it since there is only 1 in most cars. And then there is the 2 USB ports. This has an extra micro usb connector but it's a standard Micro USB. Luckily I got my own charging cable.

It's a plus for those who has non Samsung or older version Samsung models. I find it pretty simple to insert and remove my phone. It can be rotated sideview, but I feel more comfortable upright view. Overall, this is a solid product for its intended purpose. I got a similar holder but with FM transmitter. It was a pain in the neck use and I couldn't turn it side view. I think it will please most Galaxy Note users…

Allstart Tools 556 Marine Battery Jump Starter with AC Inverter

Allstart Tools 556 Marine Battery Jump Starter with AC Inverter5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Jumper Box with 22 amp battery, 1700 watt peak power, and 300 watt inverter, November 26, 2012

By Big Sur Steve This review is from: Allstart Tools 5569 Marine Battery Jump Starter with AC Inverter and 2 Pack Microfiber Cloth (Automotive)

I needed a rugged jumper box, that had a high ampere battery, was easily portable, and had an inverter to operate a variety of small AC electrical appliances. Tthis jumper box fits the bill.

The box is a little shorter and a little thicker than the Clore box I've been using for the past 3 years, which is excellent at getting cars jump started: Clore Automotive JNC660 Jump-N-Carry 1,700 Peak Amp 12-Volt Jump Starter If Clore made a jumper box with built in 300 watt inverter, I would have picked it up. They are ruggedly built, with a thick plastic housing, have strong clamps and thick lead cables capable giving a 1700 peak amp jump with 425 cranking amps. This is plenty of power to jump a large displacement V-8 automobile engines in addition to a number of Diesel engines. The box is also small enough to make it easily manueverable and can fit into tight areas where space is limited.

After looking at a variety of jumper boxes, this one came closest to meeting the specs I was looking for. The box is a little heavier than the Clore, but it also has a 22 amp battery which is a little bigger than the Clore plus a 300 watt inverter, which the Clore does not have. By no means is the Marine battery a heavy jump box, just a little heavier than the Clore.

I like the clamps on the Marine jump box. The tops of the clamps look better insulated than the iClore clamps and have strong clamping springs to prevent slippage of clamps off the terminals. The leads use a thick gauge wire, but not as thick as the Clore. The jump box provided plenty of juice to turn over a high compression V-8, and is rated at 40 jumps between recharging. Also the Marine box has a light. The light provides adequate light and rotates. The Clore box doesn't have a light.

On the back of the Marine box is a two plug, 300 watt inverter which is turned on with a switch. I used the inverter to charge an iPad 3 from 5 percent to full at about the same rate as a wall plug. The meter on the Marine battery is a bit more difficult to read than the Clore box. It is a vertical meter with 3 colors: green for full power, yellow for marginal, and red for needs charging. The needle had moved down on the green zone and almost into the yellow after charging the iPad 3. I prefer the left to right needle gauge on the Clore box which reads DC volts to show state of battery charge. As far as overcharging is concerned, the Marine battery has the edge over the Clore with an overcharge prevention feature, whereas the Clore box does not.

One other inverter test I ran was on a large Netgear Router NETGEAR Wireless Router N900 Dual Band Gigabit (WNDR4500) On a fully charged box, I kept the router running for 24 hours before needing a recharge. In case we have a power outage with the cell phone towers also down, I wanted to know how much router time I had for Internet access. During Hurricane Sandy, many of the cell towers were down preventing access to the web through 4G.

Here are my likes:

-sturdy build

-22 amp battery

-300 watt inverter

-stout, insulated battery clamps

-work light

-automatic charging shutoff when box is fully charged

Needs improvement:

-meter needs to show percentage of charge remaining

-external fuse on inverter could get caught and break. Needs a better location.

Overall, I'm very impressed with this box. It has a stout build quality similar to the Clore, costs about the same and also has a 300 watt inverter. The Marine appears to be a quality box on par with the Clore. Only time will tell if it hold up as well as the Clore with extended use, but I suspect it will.

To charge the jumper box by solar, I use a Goal Zero 15 watt panel which I have plugged into the round 12 volt port. This works pretty well taking about 18 hours of direct sunlight to fully charge the battery.

i used it a few times and have no complaints, it is small enough but powerful enough to get you out of a bind

I got this based off a suggestion from my Yamaha dealer and so far it looks to be rock solid. I recently upgraded to 3 group 29 deep cycle batteries as I run a large audio system and needed to make sure I had a way to start them if I ever ran into a dead battery. I took the boat out recently and the batteries were rock solid so I didnt nee to use the jumper, but my cousin and another boater did end up using it and it jumped their boats with ease.

PowerFilm USB+AA Solar Charger

PowerFilm USB+AA Solar ChargerThe PowerFilm USB + AA charger is probably the best product and design I have seen in terms of AA solar chargers, especially for backpackers. Stores like REI and EMS need to carry this charger. Basically, this is 2 devices in 1. It is a solar charger for NiMH batteries (2 NiMH Sanyo 2000mAh batteries come with the product). It is also a voltage transformer that takes the 2.4v of the NiMH batteries and ramps it up to 5v allowing you to charge a USB device (like a cell phone or iPod) using the charged batteries, even when it is NOT in the sun. This means that you can lash the unit onto your backpack or car dash without having to tether your phone to it all day, and then draw from the stored energy in the batteries at night. I charged two batteries in the sun with no problem and then charged an iPod Nano 2G while the solar panel was folded up, and it work perfectly.

In terms of backpacking, I can't imagine that there is a better option. It is light weight (I weighed it myself and it's 4.95oz without the batteries, 6.80oz with batteries) and has a large enough solar panel to get the job done. It also has a number of grommets for lashing the unit to the hood of a backpack, and the solar panels themselves are just about the width of a hood on most backpacks (not daypacks for school, but full-on internal frame Gregory, Dana, Osprey, REI backpacks). Most AA solar chargers have a ridiculously small solar panel that would require a week in the sun to charge a AA battery. This unit can charge two dead 2000mAh NiMH batteries in 5 hours of full sun. Given that you might have a cloudy day, that is exactly the type of power you need.

In regard to the reviewer who gave this a 1/5, you have to install the batteries into the unit and charge them some before it will produce sufficient USB power. If you had a lot of sun and dead batteries, then charge them for 2-3 hours first and then plug in your USB device. The instructions clearly state this as follows:

---------------------------------------

ATTACHING A USB DEVICE FOR CHARGING

Plug the USB cable that came with your device into the USB socket on the side of the battery compartment. Connect your device to the other end of the USB cable. Check your USB device to determine if the device is charging. Note that the AA batteries are required to be installed for USB charging, and that the AA batteries must have some level of charge. Charge AA batteries from the sun before charging USB devices for best performance.

---------------------------------------

The only "con" to this things is that the manufacturer really has not taken the time to explain how versatile and useful the thing is. Prior to making my purchase, I really had to search through a lot of web pages to figure out that it can charge a USB device from the batteries when it is not in the sun. That is a big positive feature that they have not mentioned.

Overall, I can't think of a better charger that is this small, lightweight, durable and is versatile enough to charge AA batteries for something like a Garmin GPS for hiking (eTrex, 60CSx, Oregon, etc), and it works on USB devices as well. In addition to an iPod Nano 2G, I charged a Nokia cell phone with no trouble. It is definitely the best of the best in terms of solar AA/USB chargers.

I know solar chargers aren't that powerful and can be fragile, but I decided to gamble on this one because I really like the concept. I could not be more pleased! Very very versatile. Rugged design, super light, folds up small enough to fit in your pocket, charges AA's AND USB devices (using AA power). I hang it in my window before I go to bed and by the time I'm leaving for work, the batteries are fully charged. I've been experimenting with it to see how good it is --I mainly bought it for camping and when I travel for work (all too often I find myself sitting in airports for hours).

Here's some random info that I would have found useful in a review:

1) Folds up to about the size of a large men's wallet.

2) This thing works waayy better than those Radio Shack solar chargers (which you have to buy charging tips for, I might add).

3) I was planning on making a MintyBoost, but now I've got no need as this is essentially a MintyBoost that charges itself!

4) The extra flap next to the battery compartment can be wrapped around something (like a pole) and it fastens to itself with velcro. In other words, there is usually no need to use bungees or string to tie it up to something if you're outdoors on a camping trip or whatever.

5) The solar panels themselves are flexible, really flexible, like you could fold them in half (though I wouldn't recommend doing that).

6) Battery compartment is NOT waterproof, but it is on the underside (from the solar panels), so a light drizzle isn't going to harm it.

7) Charges 2 AA's at a time (I wasn't 100% certain of this when I bought it).

8) I charged my Android phone from it and got about 50% extra battery power from it before it stopped --note, it did not drain my phone afterwards (I think that only is an issue with iPods). This is pretty impressive considering the amount of power a smartphone uses.

For those interested in it for "alternative power":

You could use this to take your phone off the grid, BUT not easily. Either charge the batteries before you leave in the morning (I don't leave at the crack of dawn) or if you have a long commute, you could at least partially charge them by putting it on your dash or whatever. Then charge the phone partway. Hang the solar panel in a window or something (facing the sun!) until it charges them fully again, then charge your phone again in the evening. Turn your phone off at night so it keeps at least some reserve power. Tadaa! (This really only works if you're sedentary like me.)

For people who have no experience with solar panels:

Don't expect too much out of solar. This is NOT more efficient than plugging your phone/pmp/etc. into a wall outlet. You need full sun and hours of patience.

Having read the reviews I was very excited to receive this unit! As has been noted, it is well constructed, of good materials, is very lightweight, and comes supplied with high quality Sanyo Eneloop batteries. I was very excited to try it out, and anticipated using it on long distance cycling tours. Unfortunately, my experience varied significantly from other reviews. Perhaps I received a defective unit, or perhaps it had defective batteries that did not achieve/maintain a proper charge. Or perhaps, it is just the Northern climate in which I live. But nonetheless, here was my objective experience, in southern Minnesota, in mid to late May (in terms of intensity of sun). All testing was done outside on clear days, without any trees or other sunlight obstruction. After properly installing the batteries, and placing the device in direct sun, the appropriate charging lights illuminated and the device achieved a full charge in 5 to 7 hours, depending on how close it was to mid-day. I thought this was reasonable for a relatively northern latitude, for a unit of this surface area, and I was excited to proceed with using it.

Unfortunately, my enthusiasm quickly waned. Upon attaching an iPhone 3GS (after fully charging the solar unit and with the light indicating a full charge) and running a golf GPS app, the battery drained from 100% to approximately 40%, over the course of a 4 hour round of golf, on a clear day in mid-May. This is incrementally better than the usual draining from 100% to 20% charge over a typical round without any charging device. So, it did slow the loss of charge, but it was nowhere near able to maintain a full charge. In defense of this unit, the golf gps app does obviously require a lot of power (as indicated by its ability to nearly completely drain an iPhone battery in 4 hours), and the solar charger did delay the power drain somewhat. However, I was hoping that on a clear day, with the unit affixed to my golf bag on a cart, that it would have been able to maintain a much better charge. In fact, the golf bag push cart to which it was attached is angled and I intentionally rolled the cart with the device facing the sun to give the solar device the best opportunity to perform, and the angle of the cart is such that it would facilitate a perpendicular angle of the charging surface relative to the sun.

The next test was the use of the device away from the sun. After fully charging the device in direct sun on a clear day, with the light sequence appropriately indicating a full charge, I brought the device indoors and immediately attached my iPhone 3GS, that was at a mid-charge level. The wireless and bluetooth were turned off, and I put it in locked/standby mode to minimize power usage. I did not want active phone/wireless/bluetooth use to be a confounding variable. After three hours, the iPhone had only gone from 48% charge to 51% charge. While I realize that the solar charger technically "charged" the phone somewhat, it was not doing so at a practical rate, and I terminated the test at this point to use the phone.

As a third test, I inserted two Sony AA 2500mAh batteries that were fully charged by a wall charger, into the solar unit battery chamber, and attached a completely dead iPhone to the unit. It charged the phone from 0% to 51% charge with this set-up. So, clearly, the electrical connections, and USB port worked fine. Unfortunately time constraints and cloudy weather precluded me from testing the device with solar charging with the Sony batteries, to attempt to differentiate betwen bad batteries versus insufficient unit charging capacity as the etiology of the suboptimal performance. I also did not test the supplied Sanyo Eneloop batteries in a home charger, in terms of their ability to accept a charge.

So, there's my experience. You can decide for yourself.

As my experience was an outlier, I encourage others to post their experience. Specifically:

1) Time for solar batteries to achieve full charge

2) Whether they are then capable of charging a device while the unit is away from the sun

3) Ability of the solar device to achieve maintain a charge on your electronic device when in direct sun

If you choose to post, please indicate degree of cloud cover, your location and time of day (as latitude and time of day affects sun angle/intensity) for your experiences.

Who knows? If the overwhelming response is that these units did much better than my experience, maybe I'll reorder one, and try it again, to ensure that it wasn't just a defective unit or defective batteries that I received.

I bought this so I can always have good battery in my GPS (uses two AA) and cell phone (uses a 3.7V 850 mAh ) for doing weeklong bicycle trips such as GOBA. It turns out to be small enough that I just keep it in my emergency repair kit all the time. I leave the batteries out of the device because the USB charger draws ½ mA with no load. This would discharge the batteries in about six months.

Before you buy one, you should probably do a little math. The product description lacks the detailed specs (the reason for only four stars) so here is what you need to know:

The USB charger is rated at 5V with a 1 amp maximum load. If your application requires more than this it's not going to work. The solar cell charger is rated 3.6 V at 400 mA in full sunlight which is optimized to charge the batteries that come with the device. To determine if the USB device will recharge your battery, look at the current and voltage on the battery to calculate Vah (Volt/Amp hour). For example; my cell phone battery is 3.7 V at 850 mAh = 3.145Vah. It will take at least 20% more than this to charge the battery due to losses. So in my case, I estimate it takes 4 Vah to charge this battery. The AA batteries that come with the unit are rated 2.5 V (for the pair) at 2000 mAh = 5 Vah. This turns out just about right because after fully charging my cell phone battery, there is still enough in the AA batteries to power the GPS for about two hours.

To help speed things up, place the solar collectors on something cool with all cells exposed to sunlight. Charge the USB battery with fully charged AA batteries and the solar collector exposed to sunlight.

I've tried about a half dozen or so small AA-type solar chargers, and all of them have been disappointing to some degree or another. Either they are flimsy and break all too easily or they take two days to charge a few AAs... They all seem to have the same weaknesses, with the occasional tradeoff for a strength or two.

This one is the exception. Not only is it far more ruggedly built than the competition, it seems to have much better charging capacity. Most of the ways you could think of breaking your typical AA charger will not work on this thing. It's flexible and long drops will have no effect. It doesn't seem you'd be able to crack or shatter the panels. The wiring is buried safely. I can't imagine how I'd break this unless I actually set my mind on it.

Charge time seems to be much shorter than competition, too. I haven't done anything empirical, but it does seem to charge my Eneloops much faster than the other chargers I've got and have had in the past. As a bonus, it seems to charge more USB devices than some of the other chargers I've got. You do need to have the batteries in to do this, it should be noted.

I like this one so much I ordered it's strictly-AA cousin (the 4xAA charger) to increase my charging capacity. I have finally found a charger that I can trust.

I know it's the holidays but I feel like I am being ignored. One real bright spot, Amazon stepped in and assumed responsibility. Now is that a big thing? Well this paperweight only cost me $30, which is not a large percentage of the money I have spent though Amazon but it sure makes me happy. I presume they will intercede with the seller or maybe just write it off. Anyway, they did what I would expect a quality company to do. Thank you Amazon! To be fair this seems like an unusual occurrence for this company. However, let the buyer be warned, they have the capacity to really screw things up and only Amazon seems to be concerned.

11 Jan 2011 Still waiting.. I just sent this email off trying to get this resolved... I am still waiting to return this product. I have sent several emails and had one telephone conversation. It is my understanding I am to wait for return authorization. This was the wrong product in the first place. It doesn't surprise me that the whole process is a BIG problem. This company doesn't seem to get excited about unhappy customers. I am beyond unhappy!!!! GET A CLUE, YOU SCREWED UP AND DON'T SEEM TO GIVE A (EXPLICATIVE DELETED) IF YOU FIX IT!!!!!

This product does NOT work with the Droid X cell phone. Also, the weight of the Droid X phone is too heavy for the cable that is used to support the phone and hold it in place. I would not recommend this product if you plan to use it with a Droid X.

Belkin Video Cable 6-Feet with ChargeSync 4-Feet for Apple iPod and iPhone

Belkin Video Cable 6-Feet with ChargeSync 4-Feet for Apple iPod and iPhone
  • Belkin F8Z361Tt06-P Iphone/Ipod Av Cable

The Belkin web site and the box implies the iPhone 4 isn't supported so I passed the first time around. Since the return would be easy at a local store I tried the 2nd time. Never used one of these before and it didn't seem to work on any of my devices. None of the devices listed on the box or web site match what I have.

But, you have to know that (apparently) the iPhone/iPod doesn't send any A/V signals out the dock connector unless you start playing something music/video. Once I figured that out, ALL my devices work just fine.

Plus, it's a nicely made assembly.

I purchased this for my iPad2.

The description does not mention iPad, but it works just fine. I can see AirVideo output just fine with sound and charges the iPad2 at the same time.

I do however have one HUGE gripe. The connector dislodges from the iPad VERY easily, which of course keeps it from charging and disrupts the external display. Very annoying.

I managed to mitigate that occuring however by simply attaching this 15' extension cable SF Cable, 3 RCA Male to 3 RCA Female Audio Video Extension Cable-15 Feet, so now I can watch my living room Win7 MCE recordings (wtv files) on the bedroom TV upstairs and keep the iPad within easy reach on my nightstand.

Also, I find that I need to use the 2amp charger that came with the iPad because the video would just not show up using my HTC 1amp charger.

Schumacher 82-6-PE Dual-Rate Manual Charger

Schumacher 82-6-PE Dual-Rate Manual ChargerI have owned this charger for about 5 years now and i am impressed on how it still works considering that I use is all the time and slow charge batterys all night! Well worth the price.

To be brief, I bought this a few years ago (from Amazon)and I have used it a handfull of times to charge dead car batteries and it has worked as advertized. It works well. I am pleased with the purchase as I got it for a good price. I would suggest it to others who are looking for a "lessor amp" power charger who don't mind waiting a little longer to charge something versus a chager that is is a faster charger with higher amps such as 10 or 12. Very good value for the $$.

12 Volt Magnetic Towing Light Kit

12 Volt Magnetic Towing Light KitThe 12 Volt Magnetic Tow Lights are great and I love them. The magnets are very strong, and the wiring harness is good.

I wish that they had labeled the lights Left and Right for easy setup.

They did not so I labeled them myself with a white paint marker.

I would have given them 5 stars if they were labeled Left and Right for easy setup.

This lasted a quarter mile on the car being towed before they fell off and broke into a million pieces along the road. They barely made it out of the driveway. Better magnets would be great, these ones barely hold together when you put them magnet to magnet.

1 light was lit solid, the other light was very dim. I couldn't see a way to remove the lenses to do troubleshooting without

breaking the lenses. The magnets were very weak and wouldn't stay in place without strapping them down. I used these lights

one time to tow a log splitter 15 miles and when i got home I removed the magnets cut off the wire and threw the lights in the trash.

AeroVironment Residential EV Charger, 25' cable (Level 2 EVSE-RS: 7.2kW, 30A)

AeroVironment Residential EV Charger, 25' cableI would avoid AeroVironment's charging station. I have one and my charging station is 11 months old now; it fails about once a week, sometimes more often. By "fails" I mean vehicle charging stops and the trouble light illuminates. The charging station trouble light can only be reset manually by cutting off the circuit breaker to the unit (hopefully you've installed one near the charging station, otherwise you'll have to go to the panel box). This is annoying when this happens during overnight charging cycles and the vehicle doesn't get charged. Big unpleasant surprise in the morning. Despite repeated calls to AV and promises from them, nothing has been resolved to date.

I know others have had good luck...that hasn't been my experience. And, my charging station was professionally installed through the vehicle manufacturer's ordering website.

PROS:

same unit used by vehicle manufacturer dealerships, at least in Central Ohio

AV was recommended by vehicle manufacturer's ordering website as preferred supplier

CONS:

unreliable, in my experience, as I described above

expensive vs. alternatives

serial number (necessary for warranty work) is located on a label affixed to the bottom of the unit, and is printed in a font requiring a scanning electron microscope to read.

I've had this product installed in my garage for 14 months and have had no problem with it. It interfaces perfectly with the timer on my Leaf to insure that I charge during off-off-peak hours without fail. I'm confident every morning that I will be on my way with a full charge.

Buy AeroVironment Residential EV Charger, 25' cable (Level 2 EVSE-RS: 7.2kW, 30A) Now

This charger is well made of high quality component parts, but it's grossly overpriced. If the ultimate goal here is to have legions of EV's out there then critical accessories such as this charger (must have item for any EV owner) must cost much less than I had to pay here ($1,100 incl. shipping), and the unit must be professionally installed (could easily cost another grand). In my own case, I'm an electronics engineer, I installed this myself, and configured it so it is portable. Taking it with you is necessary, there are not enough stations out there yet. And as I say, it's too damn expensive, could really be had for much less (hello any capitalist business types out there especially green ones!). Ultimately, this is a very well made, quality and very EXPENSIVE product, delivered in good condition and in a timely fashion, by those good folks out there at AMAZON. A pleasure to spend my money there, as always. JEFF

If you are trying to support the Tesla, don't buy this product!

You can save about $1000 buy getting the NEMA 14-50 dryer socket ($20) instead. (Made by many vendors.)

This is the same socket you find in RV-parks.

This product is a glorified extension cord. The Telsa cars come with their own cord.

If you do buy this product, be sure to make the electrician install it using the NEMA 14-50 plug and socket.

It is not clear to me why auto companies want to make it so difficult to plug in, and require a "charger".

Want AeroVironment Residential EV Charger, 25' cable (Level 2 EVSE-RS: 7.2kW, 30A) Discount?

My electrician was able to install this charger very easily. The cord is quite long so accommodates my driveway with tandem parking. I use it to charge my Chevy Volt. It was a lot cheaper than the cheap GE product that Chevy referred me to after getting my own installation. If you have a washer/dryer nearby then it will be easy to access the 240V. Very happy and it also is fully sealed in the rain. Highly recommended.

Sunforce 11134 200-Watt DC to AC Modified Sine Wave Inverter

Sunforce 11134 200-Watt DC to AC Modified Sine Wave InverterI didn't have this exact one but a 200 watt sunforce like it. It worked great for a few years then gave up on me. i could never go near 200 watts with it . In fact 4 CFL light bulbs 23 watts each would cause the whole thing to shut down.

Background:

Bought a solar panel kit from Harbor Freight. Kit doesn't come with inverter. Bought an inverter (which looked more

like a car inverter) from Harbor Freight too. Charged up the battery to 12+ volts but the inverter would squeal and not

work. Read instructions that it would do this under 13 volts. Returned that inverter.

Experience:

Bought this Sunforce inverter. It works perfectly for the solar panel kit. It doesn't squeal until less than 11 volts

or so. And from reading the reviews here, it was stated that this Sunforce inverter fan would turn on even without a load.

Sunforce must have changed the design so that the fan would not start until there was a load because that is my experience.

(reviewed in June, 2012).

Buy Sunforce 11134 200-Watt DC to AC Modified Sine Wave Inverter Now

I bought a coleman 55 watt solar charger panel. It came with a sunforce inverter that was dead out of the box. Called the number for service and all you get is a recording saying leave a message will get back to you within 24 hrs. After 3 days of this calling game I think they have no intention of calling back. Threw it in the trash and went to a local store and bought a different brand that works. Update-----Finally called and did take care of the problem.

Read Best Reviews of Sunforce 11134 200-Watt DC to AC Modified Sine Wave Inverter Here

I purchased the Sunforce 50048 kit. The inverter comes with the kit. I like that it has two plugs. The solar panels seem to work nicely. But, the inverter literally blew a fuse within 5 minutes. I hadnt even attached it to anything yet. Fortunately, I had a spare handy. It could just be a lemon. Either way, probably best to go with another brand.

Want Sunforce 11134 200-Watt DC to AC Modified Sine Wave Inverter Discount?

I bought this trying to find an inverter that would consume low standby power for a solor project that would run one hour per night. Certainly the people at SUNFORCE would have their stuff together and realize that a solor project must be thrifty since it has limited "income". If the inverter is powered up with no load, it should just sit there until it has work to do. The larger ones power up silent and have the fan come on when: A= The load increases generating heat, or B= the internal temp climbs making the fan necessary. This is just 2 more semiconductors guys!

This one, if it's powered up; the fan runs and runs. Doesn't matter if it's 35°F and there is no load on it at all.

Anyone that has PC's for years realize that fans last 5 years at best then it's on to the junkyard.

I have to find one with "low quiescent drain"...

Hints appreciated.

Husky Liners Custom Fit WeatherBeater Molded Front and Second Seat Floor Liner Set for Select Subar

Husky Liners Custom Fit WeatherBeater Molded Front and Second Seat Floor Liner Set for Select Subaru Legacy/Outback ModelsI had originally planned to buy some of the custom WeatherTech floor liners that I had seen advertised on TV (having never heard of the Husky liners). When I took my car in to get tinting and a clear-bra put on, I asked the guy there if he had any experience with the WeatherTechs. He indicated that they were good but he preferred the Husky liners.

After doing some research, I decided on the Husky liners as they cover up the floor-mat retention hole with rubber (so it can't leak through) and they have a bunch of pointy cones on the bottom that prevent the floor mats from shifting around.

Like other liners in this price range they are custom fit to the vehicle (2011 Subaru Legacy in my case) and they fit perfectly in the foot wells. The rear floor-mat is all one piece so it also covers up the hump in the rear footwell. By default they cover up the gas lever on the floor, but they have an area where you can cut it if you want. I leave mine covered and just reach underneath for the lever. With the high side-walls and the covered up holes these should hold a substantial amount of winter muck.

The only downside I can see is that I wish the material was a little thicker/sturdier as I'm wary of these wearing through quickly. Only time will tell how well they hold up.

Good fit. Good quality. Easy to install. Very heavy material and molded up on the edges to form a lip to prevent water, snow or spills from reaching the carpet underneath.

I bought these the day after I bought my 2012 Outback and 18 months later I still think they were an excellent purchase. I got them in black which does show some dirt when dirty, but cleans up very easily. They also fit perfectly. My buddy has weathertechs in his truck and they feel too plastic-y and slide around a bit unlike the huskyliners which have a very grippy spiked backing. I have recommended them to friends and got my mom a set for her new Camry (in grey, a good color choice if it goes w/ your interior). One tip for any type of liners, if you get your car detailed make sure they only wipe them down and not "dress" with some armor-all type spray, otherwise they get slick.

I ordered molded liners for a 2012 Subaru Legend. When the arrived, it was a simple matter to pull out the old carpet mats and slip these into place.

Can't speak to their long-term durability, but so far very pleased with them.

Park Zone Precision Parking Device

Park Zone Precision Parking DeviceThe car gets parked in the garage to his satisfaction every time now...

What can I say other than 'it works great.' Very easy to install and setup. Simply park you car where you want it and press a button -the park-zone will remember this location and signal you to stop whenever you pull in to that spot again. Took about 4 minutes to hang and setup. Batteries last a long time -and in a very hot garage, too. I love it.

Buy Park Zone Precision Parking Device Now

I have poor depth perception and am simply crappy at judging how close to the wall I am when pulling into the garage. Before installing the Park Zone device, I had tried a few other strategies to prevent bumper bumpage in my tiny garage. A tennis ball hanging from a string did not work, as my dog is a tennis ball freak and was constantly jumping up and chomping on it; parking ramps did not work as I would miss them with my wheels and bump the wall anyway. So I gave Park Zone a try after seeing it plugged on a home improvement show I like called Michael Holigan's Your New Home. With the help of my wife, who did not need the device really, as she can park within a gnat's...distance from the wall by sight, we installed the device in a few minutes. I then got behind the wheel and tested it out. Perfect! Within a gnat's...distance from the wall when the light turned from green to red. Why do I give it only four out of five stars? Because it is battery-powered, and not solar-powered as I would prefer. I realize that little sun gets into my garage, but I would be happy to mount a solar panel on top of the garage.

My son bought me this more-or-less as a joke, because I had a tennis ball (me) and a small doll (wife) for parking. I put it up and I LOVE IT. I am buying two more (wife and SON). I have had no problems with batteries to date and resetting is easy if you need to do it. If you have a tight fit... try this one.

XScorpion Red LED Digital Voltage Monitor

XScorpion Red LED Digital Voltage Monitor
  • 3 - Digit Red LED Voltage Display
  • Flush Or Surface Mountable
  • Two wire hook with auto sensing turn on
  • Diameter: 1-7/8 inches
  • Mounting height: 5/8 inch

This very cheap, injection molded plastic case appears to be metal in the picture. The LED assembly forced into the plastic case was not aligned when installed and results in the display being at an angle with visible open space above the display. This is more of a children's toy with no Quality Control inspection. I would not recommend this device to anyone!

this voltage meter functions exactly as advertised and has a nice 7 segment led display. the meter comes with a strange rubbery coating on the plastic that looked very bad, I took it off with a little scrubbing and some denatured alcohol. With the coating removed it looks much better, just regular black plastic. The item was packaged well in a plastic bag and bubble wrap.

Want XScorpion Red LED Digital Voltage Monitor Discount?

Great product! I thought it was going to be a bit bright at night when mounted on my center console but it is just right. Not too dull during the day, and not blinding at night. It mounted quite easily, connection was a snap (despite the severe lack of instructions, but there are only 2 wire so its pretty easy), and it has held up so far to some pretty rough rides in New England seas.

These are very easy to setup, just two wires and installation was a snap. Display is very clear and easy to read and they are very affordable.

But, the first day the temp got over 80, the inside of the vehicle temp got hot and I quickly found out that the faces are covered in plastic and not glass. Both monitors I bought now have a melted face on them so I had to tear the plastic face off so I could see the display. Very easy but very cheap. Not sure why you would construct a voltage monitor that melt under the slightest rise in outside temp.

I won't be buying these again and now trying to find out where I can get a glass replacement for the face.

Park Zone PZ-1600 Precision Parking Aid

Park Zone PZ-1600 Precision Parking AidI got this unit because my wife would pull into our garage a little too far every now and then. This left a tight space in front of her car where we store cat food, pop, grocery bags, etc. so it always made for a tight fit. The straw that broke the camels back is when my wife cut her left on her front license plate trying to squeeze through. Granted, if she wouldn't have pulled up so far, she wouldn't have cut her leg. But what's done is done so I wanted to look at options to help her park in the garage perfectly every time.

The tennis ball idea was the obvious one but I work in the garage a lot so I didn't want to keep walking into a hanging tennis ball. For the $20 price tag, I decided to give this one a shot from Amazon. If I didn't like it I could send it back because Amazon's return process is AWESOME and FAST! No need on this unit though.

There are 3 pieces to this unit: the "stop light" (red, amber, green), sensor unit, and coiled phone cord that connects in between them. I simply mounted the stop light on a set of cupboards in front of her car using heavy duty velcro (in case I ever needed to remove temporarily). I installed the sensor unit just below the cupboards about 2 feet away from the front bumper and then connected both with the coiled phone cord.

Setup is EASY! Just make sure you have the car parked where you need it and point the sensor toward the bumper. Press the On button (right on the front of the stop light) and it cycles through the lights and "learns" the distance in just a couple of seconds.

The unit can detect the vehicle from 16 feet out so when the car approaches the sensor, the green light illuminates. As you get closer to the sensor, it turns to amber and then finally red when you should stop. It works perfectly and best of all, my wife loves it. There are many days when she comes home from work and just wants to pull in the garage and get our of her work clothes but the system is so easy that she takes the extra second or two to watch the lights and stop when she hits red.

There is an option to connect an AC adapter on this unit but I am using 15-minute rechargeable batteries so I will opt for the clean installation. Also, even though the stop light unit is mounted on the front of the cupboard, we can still open the cupboard door without disrupting the sensor system. The coiled phone cord can easily stretch to about 4 feet so no worries there.

This unit is HIGHLY recommended!

PROS

1. Installation and set up was a breeze. Install in minutes with the screws provided.

2. It uses 2AA batteries so no need to place device near an outlet.

3. Gives excellent visual feedback. It alerts you with a green, yellow and red light to slowly guide you as you approach your desired distance.

4. Affordable.

Want Park Zone PZ-1600 Precision Parking Aid Discount?

I have to admit that I was pretty suspicious about this product. My wife like to back in her SUV into the garage. She never hits the wall but sometimes she doesn't go in far enough and then she either has to start it up and back in more or the garage door hits her front bumper and then she gets mad and *then* she has to start it up and back in more. Anyway, I decided to give this a try.

All I can say is, the thing works great. It's very easy to install and it takes just a few seconds to set the exact parking distance.

This device is a lot better than other I have seen. With others, they have a switch to set the parking distance to 1ft, 2ft, 3ft, etc. That's very inflexible. For the PZ-1600, you park to exactly where you want to be and then press the button on the device. From then on, you end up parking within an inch or so of where you set it the first time. It's terrific, and way better than trying to adjust a tennis ball. Now I can always raise the hatch and the garage door never dings the front bumper. Problem solved!
