ACDelco ATX14AHBS (14AH-BS) Maintenance Free Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Powersport Battery

ACDelco ATX14AHBS Maintenance Free Absorbed Glass Mat Powersport BatteryThe battery comes empty, with the acid in a separate six-compartment bottle. Pouring the acid in is fairly easy, but takes some time and you have to be able to read the instructions so it's not completely idiot-proof. So far it's been running very well.

The terminals on this battery also feel very high quality. They have holes in the top and the front so you can attach your leads on either side.

The permanently sealed (after installation) AGM battery type is nice. This ACDelco replaced a budget BikeMaster Battery BTX14AH-BS BTX14AH-BS BIKEMSTR BATTERY that I had over-discharged.

When I bought it, the ACDelco cost about a third less deal than the Yuasa YUAM62H4A YTX14AH-BS Battery, another high quality alternative.

It was the wrong battery for my application, despite extensive use of cross-over charts and look up tables. I don't know how much of that is my fault or ACDelco.

Q Industries HV18 Small Tire Air Compressor

Q Industries HV18 Small Tire Air CompressorI have only used this thing about three times in the few months I have had it. It has performed as well as expected. I take it with me in my motorcycle tank bag on longer trips, and having that extra security is great. I already have a battery tender connection hanging off my bike and that works great for this also. I think it is a smart buy for anyone in the market.

Now residing in Las Vegas, NV I always knew I should have one of these on hand when riding solo out of town, but kind of procrastinated for way too long. Sure enough, soon after receiving this unit and while on a ride, the need arose for inflating my rear tire after plugging a nail hole. This compressor kit is the bomb and worked exactly as described. In no time, I was back on the road and can now tell you from experience that you should NEVER ride without this kit. I highly recommend this product!!

The compressor by Q-Industries is a great fit for my needs. It's compact so that it fits into my hard case saddle bags

to take on short or long riding trips. The case that comes with it stores all the connection options provided. Great product.

Every motorcyclist should have one of these if you doing any type of touring or long weekend rides.

A great deal at a great price from you guys at Amazon.

This item performs well in The job for which it was designed.

Multi use compressor designed for all ATV's, UTV's, motorcycles, bicycles, and sports equipment.

This item was never designed to inflate car or truck tires. The advantage of this pump is in its portability. This fits well In my motorcycle tank bag because it's soo small. In my test it took 10 minutes to inflate my rear motorcycle tire from flat to 36psi. The small pressure gauge is perfect but it seems to read 2psi high...which is not a big deal for its portability. The multiple ways to connect to a power source is great. I am using my existing battery tender connection. I was not able to get the entire pump and accessories in the carry bag but once I shelved the connections I didn't need to bring with me I was able to get the rest in the bag. Before shedding connections, everything but the air hose fit in the bag.

This pump gets warm and I would only use it for 10-15 minutes at a time before letting it cool down.

If storage space is not an issue go with a bigger pump, this pump purposely trades power and run time for space.

2002-2010 FORD EXPLORER 4 Button Remote Keyless Entry Key Fob with Quick and Easy Programming Instr

2002-2010 FORD EXPLORER 4 Button Remote Keyless Entry Key Fob with Quick and Easy Programming Instructions
  • Keyless remote for the 2002-2010 Ford Explorer equipped with factory keyless entry system.
  • Purchase includes simple and quick do-it-yourself programming Instructions. No tools needed. Avoid dealer fees.
  • Excellent customer service with email support is provided. Full 30 Day Return Policy.
  • Remote tested prior to shipping with working batteries. All orders are processed within one business day.
  • 4 Buttons to lock, unlock, panic and trunk release.

I could configure the remote quite easily as mentioned in the instruction sheet that came with the remote. Unfortunately, I cannot operate this from beyond a foot away from the car. It works best from inside the car. Beats the purpose doesn't it? I need to try replacing the battery. I'll keep the rating at 2 even if changing the battery works, since nobody wants to replace batteries for a product that just arrived.

Will take the rating down if the battery change does not help.

The remote does not look as neat as the original one and I attribute that to the cheap plastic that it is made of. The buttons aren't as soft as the original one either.

EDIT:

DON'T GET THIS REMOTE. It won't work no matter what you change. Get a more expensive one with which may have a better chance. Pay cheap, get cheap. Rule of the thumb.

I purchased a Marks Men remote from Discount Keyless. I was so happy that the remote worked on my car that I decided to get an extra remote key for my Ford Explorer. The second package was lost by the US mail. The tracking number showed that the package was received and sorted. It never left the sorting facility. Discount Keyless was prompt and very kind about resolving the issue that wasn't even their fault.

Orange Electronic P409S Retrofit Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Orange Electronic P409S Retrofit Tire Pressure Monitoring SystemAfter having read reviews and researched Hella TC-400 and Orange Electronic P409s kits, I decided on the P409s because it is less expensive, less complicated to install, displays 4 tire pressure readings simultaneously and has one small display unit (vs a display unit AND receiver that the TC-400 requires).

I installed the sensors myself onto brand new 18" BMW aluminum alloys and had my shop use a dial-type torque wrench to torque the valves (included in the kit) down to 4 newton meters (~35 inch pounds), exactly as the Orange Electronic P409s manual states. If you don't have a dial type torque wrench (not clicker), then you'll need one to install this kit. I then had them mount the tires on and as soon as they pressurized the tires, the sensors turned on.

The kit includes absolutely everything you need: valve cores, valve stems, valve stem caps that say (sensor inside), and sensors. The only thing you need are wheels and tires.

Finally, it takes about 5-10 seconds every time you plug the head unit in for the sensors to link up to the head unit. And the digital readout is very accurate, providing the identical reading that my handheld digital tire pressure gauge gives. What an awesome kit, from the cockpit of my BMW 850i (which has a lot of insulation, I was concerned about wireless reception), I can get the signals from all four sensors. There are no reception issues to report.

You can manually set the high and low (pressure and temp) alarm thresholds, and upon trigger of an alarm, the sensor in question lights up red on the display and it starts beeping. If you pressure the top button once you can silence the beeping. It's amazing to watch the tire pressures as you drive, you can watch them rise and see how high they really do go, this helps a lot because I use monitor my pressures closely to equate to the amount of grip I'm get during some of my performance drives on curvy country roads. Having this kit has allowed me to tweak my optimum cold tire pressures in order to properly balance tire life and grip.

I highly recommend this product, especially for high performance sports or luxury cars. In my humble opinion, the P409s is the way to go for after-market TPMS.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is useful to note that when you buy the kit, if you plug in the head unit, the sensors will NOT LINK UP to the head unit UNTIL you install them and pressurize the tires. They have a sleep mode that goes into effect when there is no pressure in order to preserve battery life while the unit is sitting on a shelf. So if you buy the kit and want to "test" it prior to installing it with tires/air, it won't work until you actually pressurize the tires and then plug the head unit in.

I have found this to be the best of three different after-market TPMS that I've tried. This valve attachment location has proven more durable than the band technique. The simultanous four-time readout is more user-friendly than those readouts that require a button to be pushed repeatedly to change among multiple tires. This unit has proven appropriately sensitive to low tire pressures on multiple occasions. Economical. Highly recommended.

***EDIT May 2013***

This update comes about 5 months late, so I apologize. I am going to withdraw a virtually unconditional recommendation for THIS product. The rating is reduced to 2 1/2 stars (rounded to 3 for its merits) and recommend it only if the prospective buyer can be satisfied with a 3 to 3.5 year battery life tops. Longer life will just be a bonus. My experience effectively shows the useful life of the system to be only about 50% of of what you might expect from the stated battery life in the manual (7 years nominal). Others are reporting about the same in reviews after mine. The cost for replacment sensors plus installation and balancing costs puts it nearly out of the range of simply buying another TPMS system unless you can time the replacement with tire replacement. Once a single sensor begins to fail, the others will likely follow shortly behind.

In addition, it is virtually impossible to reach the company with the phone #s provided on their web site, although the site itself has improved for English speakers over the years. Interestingly, I was contacted by Orange about a year or so after my original review to contribute a testimonial for their product. I declined, stating that the material in my Amazon review pretty much wrapped up my experience with the product and they were welcome to use any of it.

I emailed them in November 2012 to see what could be done about battery life and to date there has been no response. A phone call today to the "company" was taken by an answering machine that identified (and verified) only the number I was calling...no company greeting, business hours, etc. There have been many reviews since mine alleging this system to be unsupported. Certainly, it would seem that my experience would seem to support that claim. Kind of sad because it is otherwise a great product.

ALSO NOTE: The USB cable supplied with the 409S is stated in the manual as not being compatible with standard USB devices. I suspect that is because the voltage it supplies to the receiver/display is 12 volts instead of 5 volts that phones, GPS systems, etc. use. Have not been able to verify that because it is really tight to try to measure even with removing the back of the display. So, if your 409S fails, don't try to use that cable on another USB device without verifying that voltage!!!

I am going to let stand that which was previously written below.

*********************************************************************************************

...and highly recommended if you don't. Bought this device from another online vendor because Amazon had not yet started carrying it. This one gets only 4 1/2 stars because depending on where you place it, the display might not be readable in bright light conditions. However, the audible alarm will promptly alert you of anything headed south with your tire pressures.

(UPDATE Dec 04, 2011: As of this date, I still own this Subaru and have put an ADDITIONAL 100,000 miles on it since the failure of the center differential that was suspected of being caused by one chronically low tire over the first 80,000+ miles under the most extreme of driving conditions with no hint of the second differential encountering a similar issue.

While the potential consequences for damaging an expensive drive line component in an AWD system due to one low tire would appear to be arguable in theory as discussed by one knowledgeable commenter, the tolerances in today's AWD systems might just well call for tighter control of tire pressure conditions to prevent damage OVER THE LIFE of the AWD vehicle, especially in the seemingly superior AWD system of the Subaru. Is it possible that in less capable systems, AWD prowess is sacrificed for long term reliability of drive-line components? It's not worth it for you to find out the hard way.) END of UPDATE.

I bought this tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) after losing the center differential to the tune of $880 in our 2004 Subaru. What in the world does this have to do with TPMS? Well, it turns out much more than you would think!

Most folks who own full time all wheel drive vehicles don't realize that they must keep close watch on tire pressures, tire brands, etc., especially if you have a manual transmission. If you own a full time all wheel drive vehicle, check your user manual to see what it says about buying tires for it and keeping

them properly inflated. Many of these vehicles might have to have ALL FOUR tires replaced in the event only 1 becomes unserviceable.

You might also find that you will have a FULL SIZED spare instead of one of those donut types. This is because no tire can vary in CIRCUMFERENCE more than 1/4" 1/2" from another in order to maintain proper rolling characteristics. That my friends, is a pretty tight spec! Pressures must also be adjusted for loading of the vehicle. Some all wheel drive vehicles might still have the donut spare, but you will be limited in speed and how far you can drive on it. Your user manual might not explain why or you might question it and ignore the precaution...a very bad idea. Failure to heed this tidbit of information could result in a very expensive repair. The forces at work here are similar to those of driveline binding, a concept known to most seasoned 4WD vehicle operators...it just never occured to me how much a chronically low tire on a drive axle could really cost me!

The reason for this can get a little technical but I will try to keep it simple. The amount of air pressure in most tires affects how many times it will rotate over a given distance. With less air pressure in your tire, it will generally roll more times per mile, run hotter and under certain conditions, put more stress on the driveline of your full time all wheel drive vehicle. If it is normal for your tire pressure to be 30 psi at all 4 wheels and you have one tire running at 22 psi, you could be headed for trouble if you allow this condition to persist. It is even worse if you have a slow leak and just keep pumping it up rather than getting it fixed like I did.

Most all wheel drive vehicles have some means to detect the rotation of your wheels and based on that information redistribute power to the wheels that have the most traction. One tire running substantially low on pressure than the other 3 will be seen as a wheel that is constantly slipping. Yourvehicle will try to compensate for that by sending more power to the other 3 wheels. Usually a differential of some sort is involved in that process. Under low speed conditions, say 5 mph or so, there is really not much of a problem. But if you run a tire that is chronically low for 5000 miles (an oil change interval) at highway speeds, you could be headed for trouble. The lesson here is that a low tire over thousands of miles on a drive axle could eventually cause a problem.

How fast things go downhill will likely be determined by the design of your all wheel drive vehicle, the power distribution concept, whether it is an automatic or manual transmission and the difference(s) in the rolling characteristics between wheels.

In 2008 I believe TPMS systems became mandatory on all new vehicles sold in the U.S., but that was mostly safety related to prevent accidents that could be attributed to poor tire inflation. There was probably a little bit of "green thinking" involved in there, too as tire pressure relates to fuel economy and its impact on the nation's oil reserves. Some of these OEM devices are reported to

be not as flexible as after market ones.

What I like about this model is that you can set the Hi and Lo alarm limits for your application. (OEM TPMS systems might not allow you this flexibility because they don't want you changing anything.) The Orange's display will show green for

tires within the limit and turn to red and sound an alarm when the pressure goes outside the limits. You can also set the device to show pressure only, temperature only, or to toggle between temperature and pressure as well as set a temperature alarm. It is also one of the easiest aftermarket devices I've seen to reset when you rotate your tires.

I had my system installed upon buying a new set of tires at a popular warehouse chain. They installed it at no additonal charge. You will have to learn how to set it after rotating tires as some tire shops might not know how to do it, especially if you didn't get the device from them. It is also a good idea when you buy new tires or have a tire removed from a rim for flat repair, that you

let them know you have such a system installed in order to prevent damage to the sensors. In the days of rubber valve stems, tire shops would cut the valve stem or use a tool to pull it out to deflate the tire faster. Any tire shop worth its salt should be able to immediately recognize that you have a TPMS by looking at your valve stem. This may cause some tire shops to want to at least provide a new internal spring loaded portion (core) of the valve stem when servicing your tire. I would expect the fit to be fairly universal with no issues. However, they should not try to sell you new sensors. If you need one, make sure it is from Orange to ensure compatibility wth your display. I really see no need to replace sensors unless they are not working. For what it's worth, I have driven millions of miles and have never had the core of a valve stem fail, although I have recently had the rubber type valve stem fail because of long term exposure to the southwestern elements and an improper material spec when manufactured on the other side of the Pacific.

One final note is that this device should be relied upon only to detect changes (mostly deflation) in tire pressures. You will get much greater accuracy and conistency of measurement using a simple slider type tire gauge. Electronic devices have random and systematic errors that can affect their accuracy even among the same types of sensors. Be mindful of the accuracy spec on the TPMS and that you are actually using a different sensor to measure each tire. If you see a difference between your tire gauge and the TPMS, most often the tire gauge will be more accurate. Use the tire gauge to set pressures and use your TPMS to detect and warn you of changes that can affect safety and help you avoid conditions that can affect the long term service life of your vehicle's drivetrain.

If you have just regular front wheel or rear wheel drive, this device could easily save you a lot of money just by preventing things like an expensive tire from being destroyed, being stranded in the hot desert with your wife and kids or something similar. I even carry a pump now in case I develop a slow leak. If you don't have TPMS and do a lot of driving....get one....THIS one!

This product might work well on passenger car tires but not on my pickup truck. I encountered 2 problems. First, the highest pressure That can be set for the over pressure alert is 60 psi. My truck tires are inflated to 70 psi so the alarm goes off and must be manually turned off every time I start the vehicle. The second problem is that with my crew cab truck the farthest tire from the unit (right rear tire) is too far to broadcast a strong enough signal to register. I thought maybe the sensor in that tire was malfunctioning but I switched the tires around and the right rear never gets a strong enough signal to register.

Viper 474V 4-Button Remote

Viper 474V 4-Button RemoteWorks perfectly with my system although the instructions are needlessly complex and I couldn't get it to work with their instructions so I looked it up on the web. I will leave the instructions here so that you don't have to go through the aggravation I did to make it work. (or have a local alarm/stereo shop quote you a price of $55 per remote to program them because it supposedly takes an hour and a half per remote)

1. Open the drivers door

2. Turn key 2 clicks to the on position but do not start the car.

3. Under the dash locate the valet switch and press it one time

4. Press and hold it again until the alarm makes noise

5. While holding the valet button press the lock or unlock button on the remote

6. Turn the key off and test the remote.

7. Repeat for any additional remotes you need programmed.

This whole process took me less than a minute to program both my new remotes following these instructions and I am not a tech person

Excellent replacement if you want a 4-button remote for the Viper 350HV system. Does not list the 350HV system as compatible, but programmed fine. Even setup to use progressive door unlocking!

I had the "older" style FOB and it was relatively bigger than this newer style. I like the smaller and more compact version a lot better. I reprogrammed this on a relatively older alarm system that I bought in 2002 (Viper 500ESP). The instructions on how to program were pretty easy to understand. I had a small problem because my valet switch had broken off due to the installer putting it right by the clutch pedal. Fixed that with a new switch. Then I had a problem with the system not recognizing my door being open due to installer not hooking up the door sensor. Fixed that too and was easily able to reprogram key FOB.

I bought a new 2010 Titan and while closing the deal I find out the XE didn't come with an alarm or keyless entry (unbelievable). The dealer kicked me down a $200 check towards an alarm to keep the deal together. Paranoid about not having an alarm I had Best Buy install a 350HV alarm with keyless entry the next day. It was the cheapest quickest alarm I could get at around $275 installed. Once I got home I realized the remote was a three button with lock/unlock as one button which sucked. I sometimes check my locks from in the house or across the parking lot when around town and remembering one beep or two just doesn't cut it. I searched and searched for a four button alternative (separate lock/unlock) and ran across Damon's review here on Amazon saying this would work with my system. Ordered it on Weds 3/31 had it on Mon 4/5. Following the directions it took a couple of minutes to set up and viola a four button remote that works perfect on my 350HV. I am now ordering a second for my wife. Awesome product, awesome service at a fair price.

Global Digital Canon CB-5L Brand New Compatible Travel and Car Battery Charger for BP-511, BP-522, BP-535 batteries. 100% compatible, meets or exceeds OEM specifications! This was a gift for my little brother. It was perfect for him, as he drives around. It was exactly as described, and came really fast.

There are a dozen chargers for Canon batteries under $10 in Amazon, and it's a hard decision when your other option is the original charger at more than 4 times the price. So, which of the cheap ones is the best? Well, not this one, that's for sure. I'm not going to say it's flimsy because most probably all of them are. But this one has NEVER charged my battery to its full charge. And now it's getting worse. I'd say at about 30% to the total capacity of the battery, this device stops charging. The contrast between the original OEM charger and this one was immediate, so it's not because the battery is getting old.

I installed the USA Spec PA-HON3 iPod interface in my 2004 Acura TL with navigation. The hardest part of installation is the getting to the back of the radio. Check YouTube for videos. Overall, the USA Spec box works as described. Sound quality is great sounds just like a CD when playing Apple lossless tracks from my iPod classic 160GB. It also seems to work fine with my iPhone 4S. I've had no problems when using "direct" mode, where most functions are controlled from the iPod but track info/text is not displayed on the factory radio. Steering wheel controls still work in direct mode and skip forward/back one track. However, in my limited attempts to use the XM controls to select playlists and so on, the audio controls have locked and/or the Nav has rebooted a high percentage of the time. Sometimes this has required turning the car off and back on to correct.

Overall, I'd still recommend this because I'm really fine with the Direct mode. It sounds great and steering wheel controls work. If you were planning to hide the iPod and control it through the XM radio controls, I'd suggest looking for another option given the lockups and reboot issues. I understand iSimple makes a similar interface box but I have no experience with it.

Husky Liners Classic Style Custom Fit Molded Front Floor Liner for Select Toyota 4Runner ModelsThese fit my 2003 4Runner Sport perfectly. The material is durable and easy to clean. I debated between this and a lower quality option that happened to be cheaper, and I'm glad I spent the extra money.

I have had the Husky front floor liners for about a month and they work great. They are a good fit and keep the dirt and sludge where it needs to be for easy clean up. The retainer clips that hold the factory mats just pull loose. The black looks nice with the gray interior.

Edited 1/13. Love these mats! still working great!

Fit is great. Liner does not move around and built in lip does it's job. I confirmed with the Husky web site that I ordered the right one.

AeroVironment Residential EV Charger, 25' cable (Level 2 EVSE-RS: 7.2kW, 30A)

AeroVironment Residential EV Charger, 25' cableI would avoid AeroVironment's charging station. I have one and my charging station is 11 months old now; it fails about once a week, sometimes more often. By "fails" I mean vehicle charging stops and the trouble light illuminates. The charging station trouble light can only be reset manually by cutting off the circuit breaker to the unit (hopefully you've installed one near the charging station, otherwise you'll have to go to the panel box). This is annoying when this happens during overnight charging cycles and the vehicle doesn't get charged. Big unpleasant surprise in the morning. Despite repeated calls to AV and promises from them, nothing has been resolved to date.

I know others have had good luck...that hasn't been my experience. And, my charging station was professionally installed through the vehicle manufacturer's ordering website.

PROS:

same unit used by vehicle manufacturer dealerships, at least in Central Ohio

AV was recommended by vehicle manufacturer's ordering website as preferred supplier

CONS:

unreliable, in my experience, as I described above

expensive vs. alternatives

serial number (necessary for warranty work) is located on a label affixed to the bottom of the unit, and is printed in a font requiring a scanning electron microscope to read.

I've had this product installed in my garage for 14 months and have had no problem with it. It interfaces perfectly with the timer on my Leaf to insure that I charge during off-off-peak hours without fail. I'm confident every morning that I will be on my way with a full charge.

This charger is well made of high quality component parts, but it's grossly overpriced. If the ultimate goal here is to have legions of EV's out there then critical accessories such as this charger (must have item for any EV owner) must cost much less than I had to pay here ($1,100 incl. shipping), and the unit must be professionally installed (could easily cost another grand). In my own case, I'm an electronics engineer, I installed this myself, and configured it so it is portable. Taking it with you is necessary, there are not enough stations out there yet. And as I say, it's too damn expensive, could really be had for much less (hello any capitalist business types out there especially green ones!). Ultimately, this is a very well made, quality and very EXPENSIVE product, delivered in good condition and in a timely fashion, by those good folks out there at AMAZON. A pleasure to spend my money there, as always. JEFF

If you are trying to support the Tesla, don't buy this product!

You can save about $1000 buy getting the NEMA 14-50 dryer socket ($20) instead. (Made by many vendors.)

This is the same socket you find in RV-parks.

This product is a glorified extension cord. The Telsa cars come with their own cord.

If you do buy this product, be sure to make the electrician install it using the NEMA 14-50 plug and socket.

It is not clear to me why auto companies want to make it so difficult to plug in, and require a "charger".

My electrician was able to install this charger very easily. The cord is quite long so accommodates my driveway with tandem parking. I use it to charge my Chevy Volt. It was a lot cheaper than the cheap GE product that Chevy referred me to after getting my own installation. If you have a washer/dryer nearby then it will be easy to access the 240V. Very happy and it also is fully sealed in the rain. Highly recommended.

  • Front panel USB - supports most USB flash memory based devices/hard drives for A/V file playback

i bought this a few weeks ago and it went in like butter. i put it in myself and no a singe problem. ive never installed a deck before but it was really easy. i have crappy speakers and it makes them sound great. it has 2 usb ports, 1 in the front and 1 in the back so before i put it in i hooked my ipod up to the back of it and ran it through my dash to my glovebox so you cant see it. the face of it when the screen is closed looks like a regular deck nothing special so im not worried about it getting stolen. and the touch screen is great it is very responsive and accurate. i had a problem with the remote cuz i didnt know that you have to slide the battery under the contact points so i called up customer service and they were very nice and helpful. this is a great deck i would deff buy it again

Love Jensen, I had the older model so it was time to upgrade. I love the two usb slots one in front and one in back. I just pop in my 16gb flash drive and I'm ready to go with music and movies on one drive. Don't even really need to use cd's or dvd's anymore. Only downside is that I can't rewind or fast forward tracks or video files. Over all great product for a great price. I also push 4 twelve inch sub-woofers in my trunk and the Jensen gives me no problems or skipping whatsoever.

My daughter loved this radio. We did not realize she could play videos with it. Did you know that it has to be connected to the parking break so she cannot drive her truck and watch a video at the same time.

Whistler XTR-445 Laser/Radar Detector Battery Operated with Built-In Battery Charger with OLED Red

Whistler XTR-445 Laser/Radar Detector Battery Operated with Built-In Battery Charger with OLED Red Text Display
  • Battery-powered radar/laser detector provides up to 15 hours operation on a single charge (power cord and rechargeable batteries provided).
  • Provides 360-degree alerts for selectable radar and laser signals, POP mode alerts, and Safety Warning System alerts.
  • New and improved red OLED text display provides distinct visual confirmation of signals detected, signal strength, and indicates engaged modes of operation.
  • VG-2 cloaking technology makes you invisible to radar detector detectors; 3 City Modes and Highway Mode for reducing false alerts; dim/dark mode
  • One-year warranty

Who's the joker who gave this a 1 star review? My experience with this item is a 5 star one. Here are my thoughts.

Pros:

Scans for so many types of detection K, X, Ka, VG2, Laser... I've seen them all go off in just a few days. I had no idea there were so many cops around!

alerts you in order so the most advanced speed detection system is prioritized over the lower ones.

Detects signals from cops I can't even see and I'm on a motorcycle, so I'm taller than cars and can look in all directions. So, basically it's picking up signals from a few blocks away.

gives you signal strength of radar etc from 1 to 9 so you know if they're right up your ass or a few blocks away AMAZING!

legal :)

fits to my screen easily with the enclosed suction attachment. Was a bit nervous about it falling off but I've been over some major bumps and so far all good.

-contrary to the 1-star fool the batteries that come with it last a good amount of time, as do my other rechargeable batteries that I use with it. Don't know what he's on about.

display is bright and easy to see

flashes an 'all-clear' when the signal goes away.

Cons:

errrmmm... racking my brain to think of one... my only addition would be a headphone socket so I didn't have to rely on glancing at the display (bit loud on a motorcycle to always hear the voice forget it on freeway).

Case-study

I was a little dubious before I bought this that it would work, but it really does. I tested this on day one by flying past a stationary cop in traffic. Sure enough he starts to follow me. I cruise at the speed limit and within 10 seconds I am alerted the exact moment he switches on his radar gun to track my speed. I ride on. Since I did nothing but obey the the law and speed limits, after a mile or so he gets bored and peels off. System gives the 'all-clear', and away we go. I couldn't ask for more for what I feel is a very reasonable price a just under at hundred bucks. Get one! :)

Like the different filters to tune out traffic sensing radar. Seems pretty sensitive to real radar from cop cars. The vg2 went off a few times already. You have to keep in mind that when vg2 is detected the local oscillator In the detector shuts down for 30 seconds to avoid detection by the cops. So even though it shuts down of corse u know there are cops around. It's a keeper.

I have owned two other Whistler radar detectors and the XTR-445 is much more sensitive than the others and the ability to use it without the power cord is the main reason that I bought this model.

Want Whistler XTR-445 Laser/Radar Detector Battery Operated with Built-In Battery Charger with OLED Red Discount?

Seemed to work great, would detect radar with more than enough time to slow down, about the same range as my old Passport. Didn't seem to have any more false alarms than my Passport, in fact there were a couple spots on my daily commute where the Passport would false, but the Whistler would remain silent. This was using the Highway mode on both. They don't use Laser around here luckily, so I can't comment on that.

Batteries seemed to be good for about 5 hours before they would read 25% left. That was good enough to last the week for my dailt commute to work, but if it sat unused for 2 days after re-charging, it would drop to 75% without ever being turned on, dropping the life to about 3 hours. Not great for any trips, don't forget the cord, or some spare batteries. I had planned to replace the cheap chinese batteries with better quality rechargeables to see if that would extend battery life.

Got in the car yesterday and turned it on, it goes through the entire test sequence, and then says "NO BATT" and shuts itself off. How can it turn on if there are no batteries? I tried charging it overnight, even tried a different set of batteries. Same results.

JR is paying return shipping to exchange it, so I will try another. Hopefully it has a longer life span. I can highly recommend JR music world, great service.

UPDATE 9/11/2012: I received the replacement from J&R a couple of days ago. The batteries that came with this one are garbage, and will only run the unit for about an hour before the charge runs out. I have tried regular alkalines (DO NOT charge these!) and it shows 50% battery life after 8 hours. I have some Eneloops on order to fix the low battery life. Just a warning that if you do buy this unit, plan on replacing the batteries right out of the box.

I was very satisfied with the way it responds so quickly to any detection. The only negative thing I have to say about it is, the battery life does not last long at all. I can get about an hour to maybe an hour and fifteen minutes use out of it before the low battery beep goes off. Other than that, I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a good, yet affordable radar detector.
