Audiovox SIR-BB3 Sirius Satellite Radio Boombox

Audiovox SIR-BB3 Sirius Satellite Radio BoomboxI love listening to sirius in my office during the day. The channels I like to listen to are Court TV and CNN, which are not available via the computer. The only down side to the boombox is that there is no carrying handle. There is a place to put one's hand, but it is not conducive to carrying. It is perfect if you are going to put in one place and keep it there.

Here is the new and updated version of the SIR-BB2! Since they do not make the BB2 anymore, this is what you want if you have the PNP3 as it'll allow you to take the boombox anywhere! Note, the PNP2 and other Sirius receivers will not work with this, only the PNP3.

Improvements include a better and lounder volume so that if you're outside you'll hear the program much better! The volume is adjusted by either pushing a down or up button. Also it's not as "thick" as the BB2.

Plug in some D Cell batteries and you can go portable with it!

It includes an adapter to plug in, and 20 wire and antenna for reception. Note many with Sirius have to put the antenna just outside their window facing the appropriate direction (read directions). And everyone can get reception, it's just a matter of proper antenna placement.

You may want to look into getting the 50 foot Sirius antenna extension cable (see above for item information) to connect both antenna wire and boombox. You can connect up to 2 of them making a total of 125 feet of antenna wire.

And Sirius lineup, you'll never be able to find something you cannot listen to! And with Sirius you also can listen to Sirius online FREE when you signup! Sirius has 65 commercial free music channels, TWO NPR channels, Talk channels (Patriot, Right, Left, Air America, Talk Central, OutQ) and spanish along with Radio Classics (Lone Ranger, Suspense, Dragnet, etc.) and more! Exclusive include Howard Stern starting January 2006, Maxim Radio talk (Mens Magazine) channel, Eminem Shade 45 channel (uncut hip-hop), over 40 NBA games per week, NHL, Tony Hawks Domolition Radio, Barclays English League Soccer, All Division I Mens Basketball.

The trick to finding what's on and when is to look online at the channel lineup for times or listen to Sirius information channel 184 or better yet, stay tuned to the channel you like!

Sports, Sirius is the only one that has a 24/7 NFL channel that has each and every NFL game including your hometown broadcast feed! NASCAR will be exclusive to Sirius starting in 2007!

I challenge anyone to find this cheaper than Amazon with free shipping and no tax. It won't happen!

So there it is, if you want to use the PNP3 in the house, this is what you need!

The Audiovox SIR-BB3 Sirius Satellite Radio Boombox is a wonderful alternative to the Audiovox home shuttle docking station. With the boombox, you can take the Sirius Radio Shuttle anywhere you want. You are not locked into your home stereo. It is convenient to take to the beach or on a picnic.

It operates on house current (for in home use) or batteries for outside use. The boombox has a very nice sound to it, even though there aren't any bass or treble controls. The speaker seperation is very good. The volume can be controlled from buttons on the boombox or through the shuttle with the remote control. Overall, I really like the boombox and feel it is money well spent if you already have a Sirius shuttle.

Wagan 2401 Smart AC 150 USB II Inverter

Wagan 2401 Smart AC 150 USB II InverterThis unit is smaller than I thought, which was a nice surprise. I've used it to charge my phone during my commute, when I failed to otherwise charge it at home and it does the job as advertised and does it well.

I chose this unit for its overload and surge protection. Two outlets and one USB port are certainly nice features as well! No need to buy a car charger for your phone if you can simply use the inverter and charge using the standard charger which came with your phone. You can bet this will make my emergency kit.

I purchased this inverter to keep in my truck when traveling. It's come in handy on several trips now, so I'm glad I got it despite initially not being sure I was ever really going to need it.

Buy Wagan 2401 Smart AC 150 USB II Inverter Now

We recently completed a three week, 3400 mile auto trip. This inverter worked perfectly to keep our laptop and other electronics charged while we were on the road. The USB output of this inverter isn't sufficient to charge the new iPads (hence my recommendation that you purchase the newer model), but plugging in a power strip loaded with iPad and other low wattage chargers solved that problem. Doing that also provided some extra isolation between the car's 12V supply and the expensive electronic devices being charged...I trust the Apple brand chargers to protect their products.

250 PSI 12V Mini Air Compressor 12 Volt Emergency Car and Truck Tire Pump (with adapters to inflate

250 PSI 12V Mini Air Compressor 12 Volt Emergency Car and Truck Tire PumpI got this as a gift. While it did do its job, it does it extremely slowly. It takes minimum of 10 to 15 mins to fully pump to about 25 psi from flat or 10 psi. I used it for less than 6 months and it broke. The pump would not produce air while the compressor still operates. I would say that this is for inflating ANYTHING but car tires. The metal part near the gauge gets SCORCHING hot after a while, I got myself a blister when picking it up one time. Shell the extra 20 bucks and get something better. I would not recommend this to anyone.

This is really great to keep in your car. Doesn't last forever, if you use it heavily like I do they last a year or two, then will need to be replaced but for $15 or $20 it's worth it. Great if you get stuck or have a slow leak. Also it comes with adapters for toys and basketballs, ect. Great to keep on hand. We keep one in each of our cars now. It can be a life saver. If you have a big truck or SUV (like my mom's explorer)it can take a bit longer to blow up the tire though, but still it's better to wait an extra 15 minutes than to be stuck there! Also just be careful the metal hose attachment on top can get hot if it running for awhile, so always pick it up by the black plastic parts!Other than that, fantastic product. Highly recomend.

Buy 250 PSI 12V Mini Air Compressor 12 Volt Emergency Car and Truck Tire Pump (with adapters to inflate Now

At $6.99 (on sale at my local Harbor Tools), this is a great bargain. It's well worth having one in each of my cars for emergencies, even if it is never use. Used it once, no complaints.

Partly because it is small and light (and therefore easily packed), it's probably ideal for inflating bicycle tires, basketballs, footballs, beach balls, rafts, and air matresses, and other light-duty use. Although it may work in an emergency, I would not recommend it for inflating truck tires.

I use a larger heavier-duty air-pump for routine topping off of my car tires. Q Industries HV35 SuperFlow 12-Volt 140 PSI Air Compressor

I bought one of these little guys almost exactly 1 year ago. I've used it once or twice a week to keep my bike tires inflated to 120psi. It has worked well for this purpose. It's a bit slower than a floor pump for this but it works. Unfortunately the mechanical linkage that couple the motor to the compressor broke yesterday while inflating a tire. The motor still runs fine, just doesn't pump anymore. I guess it's what to expect from something so cheap. However I had expected this to have a longer life. this is reflected in my rating of 3 star.

  • This kind of rearview mirror recorder not only is a car video recorder, but also arearview. It's nice nice and stable quality.
  • Accessory: main machine, AV cable, stand, car charger, USB charger, user's manual

2/23/13 Update: Full review.

2/25/13 Update: Screen update, bumped stars from 3 to 4.

Packaging:

Amazon shipped me an extremely beat up box. No stars removed for this since it is for the product but the corners were smashed in pretty hard.

The "retail" box it ships in is very nicely sleeved with all the random Engrish on the outside and a very sturdy, thick (albeit smashed) inner white box that folds out.

The unit was wrapped with some foam and a plastic sheet over the glass.

Protip: Don't remove that plastic sheet until after testing the unit, setting it up and hiding the cables or you'll be cleaning fingerprints everywhere.

Inside the box: the unit itself, a standard miniUSB to USB cable, miniUSB to car accessory power cable (roughly ~10ft long, I forgot to measure it), an AV "white and yellow" cable, and more Engrish papers.

Positive:

The unit is big. Probably around twice the size of my stock 2010 Toyota Corolla rear-view mirror. It was a shock but the way these are designed to clip onto an existing rear-view mirror means it has to be larger so the camera can see the road. I actually like the larger mirror much more after having it mounted but it does create a small blind spot to the front of the car. Shouldn't be an issue for larger cars, trucks, or SUVs but anything smaller than a Corolla will take up a chunk of windshield visibility.

Having the LCD and camera on the left is awesome, this alone makes it better than the HDVR-150.

The camera position is slightly adjustable since it is on a swivel base and can be adjusted independent of the mirror.

Update 2/25/13: I have managed to turn off the LCD during driving. I believe it's the "motion detection" option but not sure, I was just fiddling with it, went driving and magically the LCD turns off a few minutes after booting, this bumps the product to 4 stars.

Negative:

The video quality even at 1080HD was very... Questionable. I definitely wouldn't be able to read any license plates without being right behind them even at 1080HD. There's no reason to use the 720 or lower settings.

Worst flaw so far has to be the card slot for the microSD card. I nearly pushed my microSD card into the unit itself, since there's a hole there just big enough for the microSD to fall in if you don't pay attention to where you're putting the card. *Be very careful inserting a microSD card.*

"Rearview" is imprinted on the top of the mirror. Might be cool in Asia but that's just redundant and unnecessary.

More of an annoyance than anything but the car power adapter is at a 90 degree angle to the right when plugged in, not to the left. No big deal.

If I keep this unit, I'll probably rip the speaker out. It serves no purpose but to make annoying sounds while powering on and changing menu settings, only the latter can be disabled.

Neutral:

My 16GB Samsung class 2 microSD card did not work in the unit. It gives an error message. I'm going to chalk it up to the "class 2" part, I will do testing on higher capacity cards in the near future. I am looking for options to hide the cable and will post if I find a solution to that. The 8GB class 6 microSD card I am using works great even at the highest resolution setting.

Night drive clip

Literally my "video review" is just a 10 minute, unedited clip of just a Saturday night out. I tested the video at 10, 45, 70, and 5 miles per hour, respectively. The video is unprofessional but I could not think of a more real life situation where the camera would come to play. I did not test the daytime features yet since night driving is "the torture test". If I can see things at night, I can see those same things during the day. This video is linked in the comments section and tagged as NSFW for the audio content.

Conclusion:

I deduct a star for the video quality. The picture is pretty good but unless I can see license plates from at least 30ft away at night, and I'd gladly pay double the price for this feature, I'm not giving full marks. I should drop a star for the annoying welcome *sound*, the microSD card slot problem, and all the other small problems I listed above but I won't. I believe at $99, the product does what it advertises at a great price and would recommend it to a friend. Please leave a comment if you have any questions or would like anything tested.

I *will* update on reliability if the unit ever stops working.

For this price, you can't get any better Car Dvr Camera with a 2.7 -inch LED than this one! I like its LED screen on the left side of the unit because it's easy for me to view as a driver. This Car Dvr also works as a rear view mirror! The set up is pretty simple since it is built in rechargeable battery, just insert a micro sd card in the unit then power on; set the time/date and select recording resolution! Installation is also very easy, just clip it on the car's rear view mirror then plug the supplied car dc to usb wire to the unit and that's it! It will turns on and start to record when you start the car, then it will stops recording and turns off itself when you shut off the car. The recording video quality on this Car Dvr is very good! It records 720p in 30fps; 1080 in 15fps and 1080p in 10fps. It captures still image in 12Mps. This unit uses micro sd card up to 32gb. It does loop recording in 2min, 5min and 15min. I configured it in 1080/15fps with sounds on 15min loop recording setting and it works great! With my setting, it captures street signs and front car license plate clearly on a close distance. Another thing that I like about this Car Dvr is the built in speaker was pretty loud. I enjoyed to play back the recordings on this Car Dvr very much!

I chose this one because the camera is on the left side, which shifts the mirror to the left eliminating the interference with the passenger's sun visor.

It will record at 30 fps using a class 4 uSD card when set to 1280x768. With a class 6 card the frame rate drops to 15 at 1440x1080, and at 1920x1080 the frame rate drops to 10. It also has SVGA or WVGA setting which I have not tried. I think the 1280x768 looks the best, so that's the one I am using.

The Chinese/English instructions can be confusing, but you'll figure it out. The product I received must be a newer revision than the one the instructions were written for. One setting in particular, the frame rate, is not an option. I think the unit automatically calculates the highest frame rate it can use based upon the resolution and flash card's speed, which makes more sense to me.

Mine seems to be a little out of focus on the left side. The lens looks okay, so I am going to try cleaning it to see if that clears it up. The image is still clear enough to identify a vehicle. To read a license plate the vehicle must be fairly close, such as when pulling up to one that is stopped.

This video illustrates a strange effect I'm getting in HD mode. The recording is very jerking, some frames are missing. That's visible when there is an approaching car passing on the video. No such problem in any other modes.

I think this thing is pretty cool. It works great. It takes a decent amount of time to figure out what buttons do what due to the ambiguous instructions though. Sometimes I hit a button while its recording and a key appears. I don't know if I locked something or if it is telling me it locked the functions because I shouldn't be playing with it while driving. Also the volume during playback seems to confuse me a bit.

Make sure you get a MICRO sd card though. I was a dope and clicked on one of those "70% of people who purchased this item also purchased this item" things. The other item was an SD card. When the mirror arrived I saw the micro sd slot and knew right away. Oh well, I picked one up at P.C. Richards locally. 32GB class 10 for twenty something bucks.

Veho VCC-003-MUVI-BLK MUVI Micro digital camcorder for Action Sports/Surveillance (Includes 2Gb Mem

Veho VCC-003-MUVI-BLK MUVI Micro digital camcorder for Action Sports/SurveillanceThis thing is great. I tried the Oregon Scientific ACT3K and the picture quality of the Muvi is far better.

The Veho folks aren't doing us or themselves any favors by shipping it with such a sub-standard memory card though. At first I was slightly disappointed until I put in a 4Gb class 2 MicroSDHC card I had lying around. What an improvement. I've got a couple 8Gb class 6 cards on the way so I should be all set.

Some things to note:

1. Files are limited to 30 minutes at which time it will start a new file.

2. For some reason all files are dated 12/31/2000 12:00 AM

3. Files are huge. The 3:25 min. video I submitted was edited in Movie Maker and saved as a WMV at 2mbps and is 52Mb. The original raw 5 minute AVI file at 64kbps was 175 mb.

4. The audio is awful but not really an issue for me.

The edited video in WMV was as close as I could get to the original. There was only a slight loss in quality.

Purchased one of these and promptly rigged it up on the tiedown mount of an RV8 aircraft and flew it thru barrel rolls and high speed (200mph+) passes at airport. Camera did a very good job, only a slight pause for some unexplainable, reason (very slight). Handled the lighting variables in good shape. Excellent for the cost, and this is coming from a retired USAF Motion Picture Cameraman who has done several kinds of these applications on higher speed aircraft.

I've bought 3 or 4 cameras of this type for use at work. I've bought 2 different helmet cameras that worked kind of okay, but this one knocks it out of the park. The case is built like a tank, it's very easy to use. The voice activated function is great. I'm using an 8gb chip in mine, so I can't talk about the quality problems I've heard about when using the 2gig chip that ships. I've used it the past couple days testing it by using the clip mount to clip it under my rear view mirror facing forward and I can tell you there are no police dashboard cameras that can beat the video. The camera focuses perfectly through the windshield and the angle of view is wide enough to capture a perfect scene. Low light is great, used it at a shooting range yesterday and once I figured out the proper placement the videos were great even in reduced lighting. If you need a tiny camera with great quality this is the one. My one complaint was when I installed the driver disk I began getting com errors and had to do a lot of googling before I could shut them off. I plugged the camera in another computer without installing the drivers and it worked fine. I suppose you will need the drivers if you are going to use this as a web camera, but thats a waste of a great piece of equipment. Audio is a weak point and wind noise will wipe the audio. If your going to use this as a cruiser cam not sure how you would get external audio, but it will pick up the video well. I highly recommend it.

1st, Battery life poor but other than that it was a pretty good camera. 2nd, My unit died at 7 months. Unit has a 1 year warranty but no one will honor it! Seller ('PORTABLE GUY') directed me to the manufacturer (VEHO)who directed me back to the seller who said that manufacturer had to warranty it. (catch 22) Veho has not responded to any follow-up emails. Amazon granted me an 'exception' and refunded my money, (good decision by Amazon!). If you choose to buy this beware of ~ZERO~ customer service from either Portable Guy or Veho.

I work in the LEO field and have used this product with great success. Many negative ratings were given on Amazon due to the camera turning off after 10 seconds "right out of the box". To my dismay...mine did the same thing but...its not a defect or flaw. The camera goes into stand-by mode and all you do is hit the record button to bring it back to life. Hit it a second time and it starts recording. No flaws whatsoever.

One downfall I found is the lack of USB 2.0. All the transfers to and from the device use the slow 1.0 speed so videos over 10 minutes take forever to transer to/from the camera. Per the grapevine, the new devices will have the USB 2.0 transfer rate.

The only other complaint, which probably corresponds with the transer usage of USB 1.0, is the slow capture rate of the webcam feature. You can use this as a webtype camera to video tape and it saves the movie on your computer to save the memory on the SD card. This is a great idea for wired recording using your computer but the video was something like a video from a 7-11. It seemed to be recording at 3 frames per second or something crazy like that. I was contemplating using this setup to record my traffic stops instead of strapping the camera to my uniform but after seeing how slow and choppy it was I changed my mind.

All and all, I highly recommend this camera to anyone using needing a small recording device that has great video and sound quality for its size and has a type of profession that needs something this small. Its fun for the kids too...when I got it I strapped it to my cat's collar to see where she went during the day...I haven't laughed that hard in a while. :D

Cobra MicroTalk CXT125 16-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GRMS Two-Way Radio

Cobra MicroTalk CXT125 16-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GRMS Two-Way Radio
  • 16 Mile Range
  • 22 Channels
  • 6 Rechargeable AAA batteries and "Y" wall charger included
  • Belt Clip included for easy carrying
  • Lead-Free Packaging

I bought the 2-way radio for our cruise we took. I bought it after reading about similar cobra products and liked the fact that batteries were rechargeable. After the initial charge the 2-way radio worked fine. We could communicate on the ship with each other to find where the other was, the voice was clear and crisp. One draw back was not having sub-channels on this product, as a result we could hear other conversations from other users. Even though the feature lists 16 mile range, I would say the maximum range was about 1 to 1.5 miles on an island without any major obstacles. The initial charge lasted a while but when the initial charge was gone, one of the radios would not recharge again and after a while the other failed to recharge. I tried charging for over 2 days but still no luck. I don't know where the failure was, whether it was the charger or the batteries themselves. I really like these radios but were useless without recharge so I ended up in returning to Amazon.

I bought this set of two walkies at Walmart for $24 and was attracted to the small size, simple design, and rechargeable batteries. I had intended to give them to my kids so when they hike about on our 25 acres of upstate forest, I can keep in touch with them. 16 miles under ideal conditions and 1 mile in the city according to the back panel. From the front lawn of our suburban home, without more than a few trees blocking, the signal faded after 1500 feet. By a mile, mostly static and largely inaudible. I would suggest that at $24, they are a great toy and within 1000ft, certainly as clear as a bell. Don't rely on them for anything over a mile especially if staying in contact is critical.

The car charger works great! I have not spent a lot of time using the wall charger because I also have the dvr dock. But even with that the first time fully charging the Archos 605 took over 14 hours. A must have for travel.

Want Car and Wall Charger Essential Kit for the Archos 605 WiFi - uses Gomadic TipExchange Technology Discount?

The idea of tip exchange is pretty ingenious, but unfortunately the concept that makes this product so appealing is also its biggest engineering flaw. The exchangeable tip introduces a point-of-failure to an otherwise solid product. I have used mine for my Archos in my car for less than a month when the car charger ceased to charge my product. When I looked into why, I noticed the tip had become loose and moved around with only the slightest pressure from my thumb. I took the tip inside to try it on the wall charger, which also did not work. When I jiggled the tip around to try and re-seat the connection, the tip began to smoke. This tip is now in the trash. This may not be a typical experience, but beware the poor design of this product.

I love my Archos 605 WiFi, but I'm not very happy with the way Archos limits their software and accessories for the 5 series. If they even offer a power accessory like this one, it's hard to find and usually quite a bit more expensive than what I paid for this kit. The kit works very well, and the tip exchange options help keep costs down. Nice job Gomadic!

I received this package quickly and was very satisfied with the shipper and seller. The only downside is the buttons appear to be very soft, my wife even commented that it felt like nothing was inside compared to the OEM remote control. Though it says this was for a Monte Carlo, I used it for my 2005 Impala with no troubles whatsoever. Programming was easy as long as you have the factory stereo still installed or bypassed to the trunk. Overall I would recommend this product, my only complaint is very minor and it has to do with how soft the buttons are, I predict many accidental activations of the panic button.

Great product received quickly. I would recommend to anyone. Programming instructions did not work however. So you might have to go to the dealership to get it programmed. My local dealership programmed for free because i had never been there before so you might get lucky with that.

Viper 7652V Replacement Transmitter

Viper 7652V Replacement TransmitterPretty good range and small size and love it. You can lock the buttons so you don't accidentally start you car when you don't want to. Easy to change batteries as well: CR2016 batteries on amazon for few bucks.

This remote along with the led remote came with my "Viper 5901 Responder LC3 SuperCode SST 2-Way Security and Remote Start System".

This remote has never been good to me. I'd have it in my pocket grocery shopping and bend over to grab something and you hear a beep on the remote and then you're wondering which button got pressed. You go out to your car to find it running or unlocked. The buttons them self are cheaply made and pop out. The worst part of all was one day at work the remote would not unarm and unlock my car. I took the cover off and it kept making a music tone. Luckily had a new battery at work to try and that didn't fix it either. So I had no choice but to drive 12 minutes home from work with the alarm blasting to get my led remote to unarm arm. Save the stress and embarrassment and avoid this cheap unit.

Motorola Installed Handsfree Car Kit

Motorola Installed Handsfree Car KitI've installed two of these kits with no problems. While the instructions are "sketchy", they do have what you need to know in the two pages for your given language. Installation time varies with the vehicle, access under-dash, skill of the installer, but is pretty much "easy". The product itself works well and does what it is supposed to do...free you from headsets while driving and provide good quality sound in both directions.

SOLAR 1014C 10/2 Amp 6/12V Automatic Battery Charger

SOLAR 1014C 10/2 Amp 6/12V Automatic Battery ChargerHad to order this because my car battery doesn't keep a charge and has to be charged every three days. Lives up to expectations.

The charger didn't work so I sent it back to Clore. Recently I've had very bad experiences with electrically based imports from China. There seems to be a total lack of quality control.

Scosche Statusclamp (1)1/0, (1)4 and (2)8 Gauge Positive Output Battery Terminal

Scosche Statusclamp1/0,4 and8 Gauge Positive Output Battery TerminalSo, this is about the same as the matching negative battery terminal. I pasted my review of that below, because they're the same thing except that this has a bigger post hole to fit a positive terminal, and it includes a digital voltmeter. The voltmeter has a small (maybe 24 gauge? About the size of phone wire) wire that sticks out the bottom of the clamp, which needs to be connected to a ground. I'd suggest that you use some sort of quick-disconnect connector (probably the spade kind) between this wire and your ground connection, because the wire is pretty small. If you have a couple of heavy wires hooked into this terminal and disconnect your battery, you don't want the whole assembly hanging by that small little wire. You'll want to disconnect it for battery service. With that said, the voltmeter is really pretty handy. You can quickly determine if your alternator is working right while the engine is running by seeing if it reads around 14-15 volts (good alternator) or more like 10-12 volts (alternator dead). You can crank your stereo up and, if the voltage is dropping substantially when the bass hits, you need to add a capacitor and maybe move to a bigger alternator. Etc it's actually functional. It updates when there's a minor voltage change, which with a running car is all the time. So it'll basically be on whenever the car's running. When the car's off, the voltage will be pretty stable, so the gauge will shut off after a few moments. It's a neat design.

Aside from that, this is basically a pretty nice battery terminal. It has two 8 gauge ports, one 4 gauge port, and one single-aught (1/0) port. In the 1/0 port, it comes with a bushing so you can alternatively use a second 4 gauge wire, which I thought was pretty nice. The clear plastic cover looks nice, and ships with a piece of clear plastic sheeting covering the logo / top of the cover up so you should get it scratch-free. That's a nice touch. The clear cover (I think I saw that it's polycarbonate, but don't hold me to that) extends a little beyond the wire-exit side of the terminal, and extends just a little below the bottom. So, it does a good job of functionally completely covering the terminal when it's attached to the battery. The bolt that secures the clamp to the battery is angled in and recessed on the side. The wire holes are large enough for the insulation to enter a little, and then reduced in diameter where the wire itself goes in, so if you strip your wire straight you'll get a very clean-looking installation with the insulation part-way inside the terminal.

The reason I gave this 4 stars was the lack of wire installation instructions. While it's not real hard to figure out that you strip off about 1/4 inch of insulation to get the right depth of wire past the insulation stops, it'd be cool if they actually told you that. Similarly, they don't tell you what size allen/hex wrench to use for the set screws or attachment bolt. I found that 2.5, 3, and 4mm keys seemed to fit about right, but the 2.5 is a little loose on the 8 gauge set screws. It might be standard, but I couldn't get a standard size to fit the 4 or 1/0 gauge screws. It's a little thing, but since those instructions are missing, the product isn't perfect. There were, however, basic instructions for the voltmeter.

Also detracting from the 5-star rating is the use of that really annoying blister packaging that you have to cut open. While the plastic used wasn't the worst I've ever had to cut open, it was still really annoying. This is something that really screams to be packaged in a small cardboard box with a clear window on one side. Whatever happened to those kinds of packages? Paper's not *that* expensive...

Even with those oversights, though, I'd have no hesitation in recommending the statusclamp battery terminals to anyone. While you're under there, go ahead and spend a few bucks to get the matching Scosche Statusclampn Negative Battery Terminal

This is a nice looking clamp and I'm generally happy with it, but it could be improved.

Pros:

-Nice looking--cleaner overall appearance

-Display works well--helpful in checking if alternator and battery are working right. Lights up RED. Turns off after a minute without voltage change to not drain the battery

-Covers post completely--may keep it cleaner/more protected from rust, etc.

-Probably better electrical transfer with set screw inputs rather than ring terminals, and silver plating

-Plating seems durable--when trying to find a way to clamp a jumper cable to it, the teeth didn't seem to mar the finish too much.

-Plastic cover covers clamp except for the underside while letting you see the clamp and display

Cons:

-No place for a jumper cable or battery tester to clamp onto

-Limited inputs--if you have more than four wires, or your wires don't happen to be exactly 0, 4, or 8 gauge you will need to buy a distribution block. Could be vastly improved by having a screw to accept rings terminals for extra/different gauge wires.

-Display is nice but in practice an interior gauge or data logger is more helpful, and the space it takes up on the clamp could have been used to add a ring terminal input or make it smaller.

-Large--hangs off battery

-Allen keys--may be more annoying for some to remove clamp than rachet. Also it would have been simpler to only use one size key rather than three. Would probably have been easier to have the set screws on top rather than bottom, but would have detracted from appearance.

-Hard to get wires into set screw inputs--Even with the possible benefit of better electrical transfer in comparison to ring terminals, it is almost impossible to get the wire in without many of the strands not making it into the hole.

I would suggest that anyone who's interested in adding something AWESOME to their sound system NEEDS to buy this ! It's very simple to install and it looks and works great. As far as the bad review about the set screws stripping, I'm to guess that individual used standard allen wrenches. This particular item uses METRIC allen wrenches !! It's really easy to strip anything if using the WRONG tool. I have an antique VW and I really like the display showing my volts, too bad they don't make one showing amps ;( Additional NOTE After the car is turned off, the display on the clamp turns off as well.

This is a great way to bring all your positive wires together without clutter. And, if you have an antique car with thick wire (4 gauge) you'll know that it's difficult to find terminals that will take anything more than 8 gauge. I can't say enough good things about this product, it's a must buy for anyone serious about their car !

This unit has been on my diesel Suburban for about a month, and performs flawlessly. It was a pain to install, as the ground wire is only 22~24 AWG, and very short. I had to strip about an inch of wire and loop it multiple times to get a good splice connection without putting too much pressure on my connector and totally severing the line.

Robinair 75240 Coolant and Battery Refractometer

Robinair 75240 Coolant and Battery RefractometerIt's easy to use and it's accurate. Just be sure to check the waterline calibration before you use it and make sure your coolant or battery acid is at roughly the same temperature as the distilled water you used for the waterline calibration.

This is easy to use and comes in a great case. I don't know of any disadvantages of this refractometer. It is made in China and the quality seems to be good. I would recommend it to a friend.

I just bought this to take care of my Solar batteries, 16 of them. I have 4 hydrometers and everyone of them shows a different reading plus I have to calculate the temperature compensation with them. The Robinair Battery Refractometer is easy to use and a lot easy to read that the hydrometers. The scale is easily visible with good sides numbers. It only needs one drop of electrolite for measurements. It comes with a very good case, small amount of water and screwdriver for calibrating the unit and other small tools to take samples.

Portions of our heating system are not well insulated and may be exposed to sub-freezing temps. Hence, it needs to be filled with at least some propylene glycol. I had a heating contractor do this a few years ago and watched how easy it was. Since all I needed was the fluid, a small pump, and a tester to prove the concentration/freeze point, I bought this tester. It was the same one the contractor used. I check it a few times a year to ensure none has leaked out and the system is still protected.

I think this was around $35 when I bought it, and even though it's a few dollars more now, it seems like it's a tool worth that since I don't have to pay someone else to do my maintenance for me. I can't see that it would ever "break", so I can't imagine why I won't still be using it in 20 years.

RoadPro 12-Volt Portable Stove, Black

RoadPro 12-Volt Portable Stove, BlackIt really gets old eating fast food while out on the road.I'm a trucker and thats all they have in most travel centers. On Christmas my girlfriend got me this, and its the best gift I could have gotten. This is a tackle box stove, and its mainly a food warmer. This will get pretty hot also, and after plugged in for only 10 minutes the bottom plate has plenty of heat.I can pull into a rest area, throw some hot pockets or burritos in it.Then head down the road and then pull over and have lunch in about an hour. This stove saves me a whole lot of money as well,as i really don't have a need to eat out when I'm on the road.In the morning i can put some sausage biscuits in it and in 30 min. there piping hot.As for dinner i can warm up leftover pizza, lasagna, soups, or pretty much any frozen food and it comes out great. If theres any negative thing to this stove,I'm not sure what it would be.Its prefect for a someone running solo or a team.So if you want to eat healthier on the road or just to be able to bring some real good food with you, this would be the item to have.

UPDATE 4/11I need to to let people know i am still enjoying my stove.I'm able to pull over put my food in my stove, and about an hour later its done.I was getting burned out on hotpockets,so found other great things to cook.miniature pizzas for 45 min.(butches pizza) work great in this, you might need to trim it though.Chicken wings for 60 min.(walgreens premade)work great in this too,and a nice treat for me.campbells chucky soups for 60-90 min. using loaf pans lined with foil, our great to have as well.I like the clam chowder & chicken gumbo sausage soups.BBQ sandwiches work great in this too,i buy lloyds premade pork for 45 min.,and a package of buns and i'm set for the week.Mozzarella sticks & cheddar poppers for 45 min.our a nice treat as well. This stove really saves me a whole lot of money and being a long distance trucker,it gives me a chance to have something decent when i'm gone.

I want o start by saying the image shown doesn't really look like the Roadpro I got, the one pictured looks cheaply made and flimsy. The one I got looks much better built. Also there are no tins, not a big deal as I had some already (and I recommend getting some they will be handy)

That said this thing is awesome! I pre-made a few breakfast burritos to heat up while we were out in the Mts on a day trip. I got out my little stove to give it a try, grabbed my burrito out of the ice chest and about 10mins later had a hot meal and I do mean hot! This thing definitely lives up to the 300 degrees.

Two things to note:

1. The bottom of the stove gets fairly warm. I only had it on for 15-20mins at a time so I can't say how hot it would get but it was hot enough I took notice.

2. I felt the need to flip my burritos as it heated more on the bottom than the top. Stacking two to three didn't work well either. There was plenty of room but the ones on top didn't get hot, they might have got a little warmer but not much.

Buy RoadPro 12-Volt Portable Stove, Black Now

I work for the Fire Department Emergency Medical Services and always find it very difficult to have lunch since we are not given a lunch break. So, now I can just heat up my food while working and have a nice hot home made meal as soon as I have a chance instead of waiting for take out fast food. Trust me that now in this difficult times 911 is very busy and sometimes we dont even make it to a fast food restaurant. So its also a very smart way to save money for those of us working on the road.

It was so nice to have a hot meal on the outing. Beware, it draws a little over 12 amps and most car accessories are fused at 6 or 8 amps (at least the ones I've seen). I custom built my Accessory line and made it heavy duty for a 20 amp service so I was OK from the start. The unit says it runs at 144 Watts, and my ammeter agreed (12V X 12A =144W). Definately use the foil trays and consider using extra foil in those trays to cover whatever you have in them to keep it from spilling if the stove gets knocked around at all.

The items in the bottom of the tray were scorched (hot dogs) the first time I used the stove, and they were really hot after about 1/2 hour or so. The second day I added some water into the bottom of the stove (under the tray) and it was perfect...no scorching, and still really hot. I can hardly wait to try it again and come up with different things to heat up.

I purchased two of these for my Friendly Robotics RL800 mower and was disappointed with their performance. While initial run time with these batteries was nearly three hours, within a month that time had dropped to less than 10 minutes.

Friendly Robotics thought the mower was working correctly and that the problem was these UPGs were not up to the task. I bought B.B. Batteries EB20-12X which have been working fine and have also used the Werker WKA12-18NBs.

After about 5 years or so, the battery pack in my B&D CMM 1200 24V mower died. I live in Canada, and bought the mower at Home Depot, so I went there and they don't sell the replacement batteries. I went to the B&D website, and was redirected to DeWalt, (they merged), where I found their replacement batteries. They were around $150 plus shipping, and also stated "backordered". The cynic in me thinks that this is suspicious, since B&D just came out with that sexy new 36V mower, so maybe they aren't going to support the older 24V anymore--"Can't get a battery? Darn, better buy a new mower........" Anyway, I found these batteries after reading a mower blog (who knew there were mower blogs?). They work just fine. There have been some comments that the posts are different, and that is correct, but I didn't need to modify anything. The factory batteries in my mower didn't have external terminals, but rather had screw holes with the wires secured by screws which themselves formed the posts. These new batteries have two terminals with a bolt going through them as can be seen from the photos. So, the wires are held on with screws in both systems, but the screws face in slightly different directions. There may be different variations of this B&D mower, so maybe in some there isn't any slack in the wires, but in mine it worked just fine.

So, if you can get them (maybe not anymore) the factory batteries will cost you about $150-$160 plus shipping, and two of these together were $82 shipped........ I don't know how long they will last, but even if they only last a year or two, I still didn't have to spend over $400 for a new mower yet! I had to pay some brokerage fees to bring the batteries into Canada, but would have had to with the factory battery as well, so it all comes out in the wash.

The title of this review says it all.

This arrived timely, and was EXACTLY the battery I needed to replace one in a booster pack.

Good thing, because there was about 1-2 mm tolerance on each side of the space into which it had to fit.

One "down-side" kept me from giving it a five star rating -the packaging wasn't "robust" enough (especially for a lead-acid battery) and there was a resulting crack in the battery case.

The crack was NOT in such a position as to cause the battery to leak acid -but it might easily have been.

Hey, seller: I'd be willing to pay a buck or two more for more substantial packaging!

Jump-N-Carry JNCAIR 1700-Amp 12-Volt Jump Starter with Power Source and Air Compressor

Jump-N-Carry JNCAIR 1700-Amp 12-Volt Jump Starter with Power Source and Air CompressorI could not stand the rinky dink 12v cigarette plug low volume compressors to pump up tires. Plus I go in areas where there is no AAA help or cell phone connect, so if you get a flat or need a jump you maybe on your own. This Jump and Carry Start/compressor power source is of battleship construction. Built to last. This is what the professionals use .

I pumped up 8 ATV tires that need a few pounds more each. Then pumped up 4 big van tires. One needed 18 lbs more, the other three 5 pounds more each to 38lbs. Then 4 truck tires 5 more pounds each to 40 lbs. This means to me that this compressor will easily pump up a flat after putting in temporary green slime or a low spare tire. Could of even pumped up my 4 travel trailer tires also. All this on 1 charge. The compressor kept on putting out fast large volume air. It got a little warm but not hot. Shut off compressor each time a tire was filled and checked the built in gauge to a good tire pressure separate gauge. Accurate.

I put it on recharge plugged into the wall with an extension cord and it was still in the good green after all this tire filling.

This compressor pumped up the tires very quickly. Much much faster than those low volume 12V cigarette plug compressors. Shut off compressor and looked at the gauge. It was accurate compared to a good tire gauge.

I have not had to jump start a car yet. Will add to post when I go. The alligator clamps are solid heavy duty and a good length of heavy duty jump cable supplied. This is a first rate unit, battleship construction and built to last. 5 stars

I keep the unit topped off charged once a month just to make sure its topped off and has a full charge.I always keep the unit in the truck when I go on long distance travel. If I break down at least I can pump up a tire or jump my battery by myself.

Oct30. My daughter's boyfriend bought over an ATV. Jump started it instantly with the Solar Jump N Carry. Jump N Carry had been sitting a month. Very old ATV battery was dead and did not take a charge with a battery charger.

June 14 Checked and topped off 4 van tires and 2 ATVs ( 8 tires).

June 16. Filled up ATV tire ( flat after pumping in Green Slime) effortlessly same charge on Jump N Carry as June 14.

June17 2011. Big battery to truck bad. Just click click no turn over. Connected Jump N Carry... same charge as June 14.Started truck in 2 cranks err err. Took truck in for service. Bad battery... shorted cell. Had to buy new battery. Glad I have the Jump N Carry around. Easy to use.. took less than 3 minutes.

June 16, 2012 Unit is still working perfect. Family and I have used it at least 70 times to start cars and big trucks and fill up tires (can go up to 60psi). Also have used it as a power source via the supplied female cigarette plug enclosure to run my moving 20 inch telescope. Lasted all night long!

I own this unit and it is built to last. Jump N Carry is what a lot of professionals use because it does the job. With 1700 peak amps you can start about anything. The added air compressor and 12V power source is also a great feature out there in the field. You can buy cheaper imitations like the other fellow but eventually you will be back to get a Jump N Carry.

I bought the Jump-N-Carry without the air compressor about 10 months ago for a 13 year old Tahoe that has electrical issues that no one seemed to be able to figure out and I loved it! The alternator caught fire while driving (long story), so it had to be towed for repair. The AAA service station that towed it to replace the alternator stole it! Of course they denied it! Anyway...I loved it so much that I bought another one and upgraded to the one with air compressor. When it arrived, I took it out of the box, plugged it in for 24 hours...hooked it up and and the Tahoe (totally dead battery) started right up on the first crank!!! I am not a mechanic by any means, so if I can use this device anyone can! I highly recommend it.

I own 3 Clore Booster packs. One of them is the one with the built in inflator. These units are well built. They perform as advertised. I have had no issues with the chargers at all. I would prefer if they put battery indicator lights on these units as well. The 660 now has the indicator light and the battery protection which doesn't allow an overcharge. The older units have to be charged as per specs or you could damage the units.

I have a John Deere that needs to be jumped started each time it needs to be started. I sometimes jump start my tractor about 15 times in a day. I do charge the unit after the end of the day so I don't know how long it could jump between charges, but in two years, I have never had a problem. I also need to inflate my tractor tires which it does fine. Sure, a bit slow, but that is being picky. I am able to pump up my truck tires also. I have had this unit for two years and am very happy with it.

If I were to make improvments, I would add longer jump cables, a better mount for the tire inflator. I would also add a light made of LED that could illuminate the area. This unit does the job you need it to do if all you want is to jump and inflate. I did buy a new different unit that has an inverter for AC, has DC plugs, inflates, jumps and has a light. the Jump N Carry is lighter and easy enough for my wife to handle with ease while my newer inverter is quite a bit heavier.
