BatteryMINDer Onboard Battery Charger/Maintainer - 12 Volt, Model# 12151

I own a new Schumacher SC-10030A, and use it regularly as needed you can even find my review of it here at Amazon, and I think highly of the unit. I also use a solar Sunforce 52013 1.8-Watt Solar Battery Maintainer I have also reviewed here at Amazon. Each of these has their place and specific uses, but the BatteryMinder 1.5A OnBoard model is designed to meet my needs for a different set of circumstances.

I could have just as easily purchased a BatteryMinder 1.3A unit the one sold here has many good reviews reporting it as a great product. One of the things no one mentions, though, is that BatteryMinder holds the patent on the manner in which their units desulfate batteries and theirs desulfate continuously, using varying frequencies, where much of their competition only desulfates intermittently according to built-in profiles and not without heating the battery while doing so.

I have a number of vehicles that often sit for long periods some outside, and some stored inside. Yes, the small Sunforce solar panels work great but only on vehicles sitting in sunlight, and they don't desulfate they only help to maintain a well charged battery. The Schumacher also works great but I can't leave it outside or exposed to any elements. Nor is it truly practical to leave the Schumacher hooked up for a week or more. The Schumacher also desulfates, but only intermittently, and only when it senses the need at the beginning of a charge cycle and it doesn't always sense the need for a desulfation cycle. That sensing need isn't unique to the Shumacher and is the drawback of every unit on the market using this particular "sensing" technology.

As I use AGM and standard and sealed lead acid batteries, I need systems that work with both battery types. All three of the units I have meet that qualification and also perform fine with even more battery types.

I made this BatteryMinder 1.5A model purchase as I also have several heavily sulfated lead acid batteries, not in vehicles, that I would like to recover if possible and I do know they are still recoverable to some level of recharge. It's true the BatteryMinder 1.3A comes with several connection options the 1.5A model doesn't come with but neither is the 1.3A model sealed like the 1.5A model, which does have .2A more power output. However, I mostly don't like the 1.3A model as it has to plug directly into a wall outlet and isn't sealed. That means those cables on it won't reach far enough to connect different vehicles without moving them around or inside out of the weather. Using the 1.5A model, I have only to run a 50-100' shop utility cord out and to set the 1.5A model where I need it or hang it where needed, rain or shine, and I can easily seal the utility cord to it with electrical tape when and if needed. Humidity is never going to affect it. If I decide to, I can also permanently mount the 1.5A model under the hood of a vehicle with its included bracket and using a shop extension cord to charge/desulfate whenever.

My continuation of this review below this paragraph will be of the performance in desulfation of batteries. I have no doubt this 12151 can charge and maintain a charge on a good battery, but I will also watch that over several weeks time. I have one AGM battery that still isn't back to 100% charged, although the Schumacher did recover it from a 50% state of condition to 85% I want to see if the BatteryMinder 1.5A unit will raise that charge percentage using its patented continuous high frequency desulfating charging technology over other technology. (chuckle) Short of seeing what this pricey little solid-state "connect-and-forget" technology can do with WWII submarine batteries, my testing of the BatteryMinder 1.5A model should still be rather conclusive in automotive applications.

Battery subject 1: automotive Delco, 4 year old, 6 yr. 78 month, sealed lead-acid, 600 CCA.

This battery had been sitting idle and discharged for months, and was showing only 10 volts on a digital meter. I used my Schumacher charger to bring it back up to a solid 12.5 volts as noted after resting it for 24 hours. I again reconnected the Schumacher and left it running for three days, but a resulting 75% recovered state was as far as the Shumacher would recover this battery read using the Schumacher "check" feature after disconnecting the Schumacher and allowing the surface charge to dissipate. Note: charging with the Schumacher also heated the battery, so I also had to let it cool as the surface charge dissipated before testing could be accurate.

I then connected the BatteryMinder 1.5A 12151 and checked the progress over two days. With the 12151 connected, I saw voltages varying from 13.61 volts at the start to 14.01 volts after 15 minutes, and down to 13.96 volts after 30 minutes. I also noted the amps were varying in the 1.23A range at the start and later in the 1.10A range.

The battery remained cool to touch this time using the low amperage of the 12151, but the BatteryMinder 12151 was just slightly warm throughout the two days of charging, and silent and the unit's LED remained solid green without going into the "flashing" mode denoting maintain/desulfate mode. I then disconnected the battery from the BatteryMinder and allowed the battery to stand and dissipate the surface charge. When I next checked the battery, it was then showing 12.65 volts on my digital meter, and returning to 12.65 volts after a light load a solid improvement of .15 volts that indicated the battery state was now at 90% recovered (again using the percent "check" feature on my Shumacher SC010030A). That's right, the BatteryMinder 12151 took this 600CCA battery from 75% capacity to 90% in only two days. So, the BatteryMinder unit's frequency modulation definitely does work. I'll be letting the 12151 continue its "magic" to see if it recovers this Delco to 100%, but I could easily just start reliably using this battery now. I just prefer to see it back at 100% if possible

... and it is possible... I charged the battery two more days with the BatteryMinder 12151 and the battery was holding 12.75 volts after allowing the surface charge to dissipate over 12 hours. This formerly "dead" battery is now perfect for service again, and an additional three more days saw this battery only improve to 12.76 volts again, after the battery had been off the charger for 12 hours. Maybe another month on the 12151 might show more improvement on this battery, but I'm satisfied. Recovering this battery saved me $100 for a new one.

Next: the recovery performance on a 7 year old Odyssey PC1200MJT (550 CCA top post metal jacket) that was only recovered a true 85% using the Schumacher.

The Schumacher charger finally did recover this AGM battery to a stable 12.65 volts after several discharge and recharge cycles using the AGM and 2 Amp charge settings (partially discharging it several times while using an aftermarket 1300 watt stereo system in a 1985 Trans Am). That recovery in itself is remarkable for a seven year old battery, but this battery was never used to start the vehicle it was previously in (a 1979 Berlinetta Camaro) more than once or twice per year it just sat idle the rest of the time. The 12151 pulled this battery up to a solid 12.70 volts after only replacing the Schumacher charger with the BatteryMinder charger for a day. In several more days, I'll see what voltage this battery is holding at "rest" again (after the surface charge has had time to dissipate).

My Odyssey owner's manual states this battery, at 100% charged, will show 12.84 volts at rest when it has reached its 100% charge capacity. According to the Odyssey chart, after weeks of being connected to the BatteryMinder 12151, the seven year old Odyssey PC1200MJT only recovered to just over 90%. That's still not bad as the design life of this 7-year old battery is only 8-12 years with good care, and just over 90% is a much better state of charge and recovery than any other charger gave it.

The four year old sealed Delco well, it recovered to a full 100% after more time connected to BatteryMinder 12151 and I put it back into my 2007 Silverado. I'm counting my blessings now and have also put the Odyssey into full time service in my customized 1985 Trans Am with its 620 watt RMS stereo system, and high compression 406 smallblock. I feel my experience using the BatteryMinder is one that made it well worth purchasing it. I plan to buy more BatterMinders, and have mounted this one in my Trans Am with the Odyssey battery.

Update 7/11/11:

I've now bought another 12151 for my Silverado and not only another 12151, but a 12248 BatteryMinder for the vehicles stored in my garage behind my home. The 12248 can charge/maintain up to six different batteries at the same time. Once I saw the performance improvement over a few days, after putting that Delco back into the Silverado, I knew how well this unit helped the Silverado charging system by charging the Delco battery to 100% capacity. My Silverado alternator now takes only a few minutes to build the Delco back after starting the engine and then it rests and cools off with a lower voltage output. It had never done this even when the truck was brand new or even with the other new standard lead acid battery I had been using while the factory Delco was removed. Charging a battery to 100% capacity really does takes a load off the alternator and was something I wasn't expecting but could easily see at my Silverado dash voltage gauge. I should have remembered this from my active racing days, but that has been a number of decades back now. From now on, I'll be bringing even my brand new batteries to a 100% charge with a BatteryMINDer before I start using them and will desulfate them at least once a month from now on. BatteryMINDer has made me a true believer in their "desulfation" product.

Update: 7/24/11

After installing the 12151 permanently to my Trans Am with its Odyssey PC1200 MJT battery, and keeping the power cord connected while not driving the car, it has now built this seven year old battery back to its full 100% capacity. Seeing the full 12.84 volts stated in my Odyssey manual, after a 24 hour "rest" (disconnected from the power cord), was a fantastic and unexpected sight. BatteryMINDer simply has a great product here and I now have an over $200 battery back to like new electrical condition. The BatteryMINDer 12151 has to be one of the best automotive purchases I've made in a long time.

Update: 8/25/11

Now that my BatteryMINDer 12151's have both of the batteries (I watched build back here on my first 12151) back to an optimal state, I've noticed the 12151's output amps are only above 1 amp until the units begin flashing shortly after I've connected their power cords. After the "flashing mode begins now, the amps quickly fall to almost nothing due to the improved condition of my batteries. It also doesn't take as long for these units to go into the "flashing" mode, as it did when I first installed the 12151's.

Update: 10/23/11

I checked the old Odyssey battery installed in my Pontiac Trans Am today, and found the 12151 holding steady at 13.54 volts on the well charged Odyssey battery while in the BatteryMINDer "maintain/desulfate" mode noted by the flashing green LED. This is within the 13.5-13.8 voltage range called for in the Odyssey battery warranty for maintenance (trickle) charging.

I have had a Battery MINDer on my Harley for nearly 20 years. These are great little devices and well worth the price. They don't just keep the battery charged, but they condition it by sending little pulses of electricity though the battery so that crystals cannot build up on the plates. By keeping the plates free of crystals the battery can receive a full charge and work at its peak.

A Battery MINDER will extend the life of the battery, practically indefinitely. My last standard acid-filled battery lasted 12 years using a Battery MINDer, and it only finally had to be replaced because I forgot to check the fluid and let it evaporate. Then I switched to an AGM battery and got this newer Battery MINDer to use with that, putting my old one on my truck, which I only drive sporadically.

The Battery MINDer comes with cable adapters that stay permanently connected to the terminals on the battery. All you have to do when the vehicle is not in use, is connect the adapters to the Battery MINDer, which stays connected to AC, using very little electricity. The BM comes with connecting adapters to attach to the terminal adapters. It also comes with alligator clamps for charging or conditioning a battery that does not have adapters attached.

Note that the BM is a trickle charger and is meant to maintain a battery, not to charge a completely dead o depleted battery. For example, if you buy a new battery that needs initial charging, use a standard charger to charge it, then connect it to the BM to condition it and keep it charged. A battery can be low and attached to the BM, but if it is dead or has very little charge, it won't register on the BM.

By the same token if you would like to revive an old battery that won't hold a charge due to sulfation of the plates, first charge it with a standard charger, then connect it to the Battery MINDer. It can take up to a week or longer to re-condition such a battery. You might also have to start the sulfation process manually in this situation, so read the directions.

The Battery MINDer will undoubtedly earn every penny of its cost back, and more. Before I got one I was going through a battery a year on my Harley, and the same for my truck, which I rarely used. Now I don't even go through a battery a decade! It is one of the best things I've ever purchased.

I liked the reviews on this charger, especially about desulfating. I plan to disconnect the batteries (I have two.)on my travel trailer and treat them to a charge and desulfating every month or so when I'm not using the trailer. I have new batteries now so no hurry.

I'm trying to recover the 6 year old batteries I had on the trailer as we speak. Not going well. Judging from the other reviews they may be beyond recovery. I measured about 50 percent capacity when I started and after about a week and a half, I've gained about 10 percent. There has been an increase in capacity and as far as I'm concerned, that shows the charger/desulfater is doing it's job.

I really like the idea that this charger is waterproof. It rains on the Oregon Coast. LOL

I recently purchased the BatteryMINDer and I am delighted how well that it works. It is simple to install the charger leads off the battery and very easy to plug and unplug the BatteryMINDer from the car. I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta that is not used on a regular basis. It commonly sits in the garage all week and only sees the road on the weekend. In the past, the Fiesta always had a dead battery come Friday. The BatteryMINDer has completely solved that. Even after leaving the car in the garage for a month while we were on vacation, the BatteryMINDer kept the car battery fully charged and when we got back, the car started like a champ. Yeah .. I finally got the product, got it installed and running! It's so far working as advertised. Couldn't get an installer close to my zip code (06606). All the ones I found wanted me to buy their own product... Heck no (I said).. I want this and only this. Even though I found one similar to this at one installer store but the final cost drove me away!(about $765:00 for both the device and installation). I went through the manufactural website for this product and I found some recommended installers. Found one not too far away from my location, called him and booked an appointment. The batteries that came with it already ran out. The installer couldn't program it! (innitially I thought the device was defective but when we changed the batteries, he was able to get it all set up. I was also able to cut the set-up cost too. Everything totalling about $350:00 (including the cost of transportation to and from the installer location) as opposed to a quation of $765:00 I got from another installer. I'm happy with my remote starter so far.

Roadpro 12-Volt 100% Polar Fleece Heated Travel Blanket

I bought 3 of these blankets as Christmas gifts and one for myself as we live in a very cold climate. All three stopped working within 6 weeks and even when they did work they did not heat up very fast and were not very warm once they did. Not sure what the malfunction is but these were definitely not worth the money.

Used the blanket in the car Christmas day for about 1.5 hours. Plugged it in New Years Eve, no longer works. Checked the fuse, ok. Checked the outlet, ok. Blanket just died. Thanks to Amazon for good return policies.

I ordered this from amazon on Black Friday, 2009. After several attempts in different cars, I've returned it. It just does not heat! At best, by the time we reach my son's school, which is a 10 minute drive, it feels room temperature...probably because by that time the car's heater has warmed it up to the touch.

Not only does it not work as it should, the quality is very disappointing. Imagine two thin pieces of fleece covering wires, which are plainly felt when the blanket is over/under you.

I'm happy a few people have been happy with the performance of this blanket, but sadly, I am not one of them. If you decide to order this, be sure to test it out immediately so you will be able to return it to amazon within their return time frame if it doesn't work.

The RoadPro 58" travel blanket is a nice luxury riding in cold climates. The blanket is very soft and quite warm even when it is not plugged in. Once the blanket is turned on it provides a nice warmth throughout -without any noticeable hot spots. In general the blanket can provide warmth without feeling too "hot".

Takes about 5 minutes to achieve maximum warmth.

Areas for improvement

While the blue fabric is a slip-cover it can not be removed. It would be great if it could be machine washed since the blanket will often exposed to snow/slush/salt from the your shoes.

One temperature the heating elements are not adjustable

If you leave the travel blanket plugged in when the engine is off IT WILL DRAIN YOUR BATTERY! Be very careful, especially since car batteries are already less efficient in cold weather.

No plug in for home use the travel blanket can only be plugged into a 12V DC plug. There are ways that you can get around this but they do not come standard with the travel blanket.

Looking at the review it appears that there are many more negatives than positives, however the negatives are relatively minor. The final verdict is that it is soft and works very well to help keep you warm.

I wish I could give this negative stars! I have the charger I received w/my phone but wanted to purchase one for work so that I could just leave there in case my battery was low. HUGE MISTAKE. It appeared to charge my phone, however the second I touched any key my battery would immediately drop to 3 or 4%. I tried to charge it w/my other charger and it wouldn't hold its charge either. I ended up having to purchase a new battery. The cheap comes out expensive sometimes, def learned my lesson w/this one.

I found one of these kits locally (for several dollars more) to use with the families latest generation ipods, four 4g and 8g Nanos and two 80g Classics. The cable works as well as the OEM cable to sync or charge. The power adapters work perfectly. On the Classics the charging symbol does not come on but they are charged nonetheless. This is an inconsequential annoyance--the cost/benefit ratio remains well on the plus side.

ActiveTool Airman Cordless Multi-Purpose Air Pump

First let me say that I've had two Airman pumps for almost 8 years each. They have been reliable and handy saving me many trips to the gas station. Not to mention helping with other uses around the house since they come with multiple tip adaptors.

The nicad battery packs have since given up the ghost and no longer accept charges but in fairness they lasted longer than I expected for nicads anyway. I happily continued using the pumps with the included cigarette lighter adaptor.

Now my oldest pump is not generating any output pressure. Time for a rebuild. In the hopes that ActiveTools sold repair parts or at least offered a repair service I emailed ActiveTools USA directly.

No response. Not even after two attempts. Nothing, nadda, zippo.

Not even a redirection of my email "help" request to a different department.

I'm not completely surprised in this day and age. But I am disappointed because I specifically chose Airman (after much research) over several other cheapo, made-in-China, disposable, "use once and throw away" products. In fact, it was quite easy to find junk pumps everywhere and very difficult to find a quality pump.

You could say I got my moneys worth after all these years. But it's a shame to throw away a perfectly repairable product that has served me well for years simply because the manufacturer doesn't have their customer service act together.

I bought this hand held air compressor in the hopes that it would work in my unique application which is to be able to air up the drag slicks on the race car. And does this do the job in spades. I am very pleased with the results and am pleased with the battery life. It will not only air up you basketball/soccer/football in short order, but it will air up one of my race car drag slicks from 9 psi to 13 psi in about one min. or less. That may not seem like a lot of pressure change, but it is a lot of volume change in a race slick. It is very portable and can be charged from the wall or a cig. lighter. Am very pleased with this item and would recommend it with out question.

This capacitor worked great with my Rockford Fosgate Punch Amp (200 RMS x 2) & Stage 2 Subs. I am no car stereo enthusiast or expert, but I know enough to say that this is a very reasonable price and a good performing capacitor. Easy to install, comes with screws (4) for mounting. I would recommend getting some large ring terminals for your wires. I measured the posts @ 9/16", so not sure what the closest size it. I got some that were a bit too small and filed them down. Great product at an excellent price. Highly recommend!

Car Holder ECS-K1F2BE for Samsung I9250 Nexus

We use this for roadtrips or anything that might take a while. I have a VERIZON LTE model (yes i know, this is for the other model of the nexus). That being said, around the internet there's some words on the modifications needed to make a LTE model fit. Few different ways to go about it but the general idea is to make the holes for the volume and power buttons larger as the LTE is a bit thicker, the buttons sit closer to the front than on the other model.

The method I used was to use a poking device (butter knife or something, not sharp) to pop the volume and the power buttons out of the shell and then to use an appropriate diameter drill bit to elongate the inner hole (its got an outer shell and an inner, the hole on the inside needs to be elongated). Then I used a dremel with a sanding disk to widen the inside holes. That about sums it up. Put the buttons back in it and the phone pops right in and doesn't have a fit.

Takes some practice but you just want to pop it in there, not cram or solidly seat. The pins still don't completely line up so if you jam one side in more than the other it won't pickup the pin connections on the side. or the audio will be intermittent.

Second comment, need to get the apk for the google car dock app, typically found alongside the car dock modification info. its called cardock. side load that to your device and when you drop it in the dock, it rotates landscape and launches cardock. no app? no big deal, it'll still rotate landscape but you'll have to hunt and peck for your pandora app or whatevers.

Audio out works great, music is awesome.

Wanna use the phone? Get a bluetooth. cardock is intelligent and will turn on the bluetooth when you dock the thing and actively sync to your earpiece. wasn't made to use the car speakers (privacy reasons.)

Charges the phone, and keeps it topped up when you're navigating with the gps on and the radio streaming.

Fits with the OEM extended battery and extended battery cover.

the biggest downside to this all is that with the extended battery i have two options go naked, or use the sycrilic case, the soft inner with the hard outer shell. so if i'm rocking the case, obviously, i have to take it out of the case to dock it. which is a slight pain in the butt to do that EVERY DAY for my commute or whatnot, so its why I only really use it on car trips and then the phone is au natural for the weekend.

Hope you like this, the info is out there on the interwebs for this mod if you need more than that, but it works, and works awesome.

Oh and the suction cup is a monster... (my silly garmin still falls every so often, this guy stays on teh windshield while you manhandle it to get your phone back. oh yeah, btw, this dock WANTS your phone. and it will not give it back. you must want it back to get it out of the thing, but thats what the popout hole is for just jam your fingers in there and the phone flies out at you angrily and bounces off the dash into your coffee so be careful out there!... okay, so I didn't do the coffee bit, but it did fly out the drivers side and i saved it with my sneaker. 'nuff said there.

I had been looking for this dock since I bought my Galaxy Nexus from Google. They suddenly stopped selling its accessories and other docks didn't have the pogo pins and were in reality just stands for the Nexus. This is a genuine Samsung product the real deal with the pogo pins. Syncs your phone into car mode and turns even the home screen to landscape.

Careful however if you sync your phone to your car via bluetooth; make sure it is synced before docking otherwise it becomes a headache to connect the audio to the car via bluetooth if you dock first.

i was looking for for a long time. unfortunitally Google's relationship with Samsung has soured a bit so the phone and it's accessories was quickly replaced which is a bummer because it leaves everyone buying into this (truely) first nexus phone stranded. after all this car holder is the real deal. the fitting of the phone into car holder or taking the phone out requires a bit of effort. this is not for everyday use in my opinion. there have been times where i was worried about having damaged the phone while inserting or removing the phone. otherwise this car holder beats any other i have seen so far

Received my Garmin Zumo 450 on a Tuesday and promptly unpacked it. My first impression was "This is different". Hope I didn't waste my hard earned cash for this gadget. I connected the Zumo to the computer and checked for updates. One was available so I downloaded it.

Next I attached the supplied RAM mount to my BMW R1150GS and hardwired the dc cord to an appropriate place. The first couple of days of commuting to work with this GPS I noted my likes and dislikes of this Zumo. At this point the dislikes far outweighed the likes. Hope I didn't make a mistake with this purchase.

The weekend came and I took a long trip through the Adirondacks of NY, the Green mountains of VT and the Berkshires of MA for a distance of 800 miles total for the weekend. By the time the weekend was complete my dislikes with this machine was down to two. The first dislike was fuel stops in rural communities does not display. When in Long Lake, NY it says my closest option for a fuel stop was 22 miles north in Tupper Lake when there were two well-established fuel points in that community. I also experienced this throughout my travels through rural America in the northeast.

The second dislike is the nut that holds the RAM arm. RAM makes a key locking nut that will prevent someone from walking off with your GPS. This item can be purchased separately.

Now for some of my likes:

1. Touch Pad is very nice and easy to maneuver through the various pages.

2. The Garmin Security Lock, when activated prevents someone from using the GPS unless they have the PIN or is at a predetermined location of your choosing.

3. The ability to recalculate your route should you want to deviate from it and go exploring.

4. Waterproof.

5. The RAM mount comes with this unit.

6. Nothing optional that is needed with this unit.

7. The ability to accept Points of Interest. There are free POI's available from the Internet or you can commercially purchase them for your unit.

8. Comes with a carrying case.

9. Large display suitable for the motorcyclist.

It's been a few years since I have updated my GPS. My previous model was the Garmin eMap. The ZUMO 450 is not designed to go hiking and is rather bulky to carry in your hand. The internal lithium battery life of four hours isn't practical to carry on long hiking trips. Garmin's literature states "this unit was designed for a motorcycle by a motorcyclist" and now I believe it. If you are serious about having navigation on your motorcycle the Garmin Zumo deserves some consideration. I have no regrets and feel that I have made a wise choice.

I was looking for a mobil GPS unit that I could use on my bike, car or when exploring unknown ground on foot. Doing some research and reading the reviews on Amazon.com the Zumo 450 seemed to be the right choice. Out of the box it has everything you need to install it on your motorcycle. I believe in manuals and read through it, however, if you among those who can't wait for the hands-on approach the Zumo 450 is very intuative to use. For my first trip I actually used it in my car. For that I had also ordered the Garmin automotive mount (010-10860-00) together with the 12-Volt Vehicle adapter (010-10747-03). The automotive mount has a built-in speaker that alows the Zumo 450 to read the turning instructions back to you. Although the little speaker is not great, the mount comes with an audio output (as well as a mic input) which allows you to connect the automotive mount to your car stereo. I have a simple car stereo with a tape deck where I use one of those tape casette adapters with audio connector to connect the Zumo 450 to my car stereo. Throw some MP3s on a optional SD card (the type that is used in many compact digital camareas), insert it into your Zumo and you can listen to music and the turnig instructions of the Zumo at the same time (the Zumo pauses the music like it's much more expensive built-in cousins when giving instructions). I tested it out last weekend on a 500+mile trip to unknown territory. In the past I would be "armed" with Mapquest printouts which can become sometimes a challange in heavy traffic when reading printouts and paying attention to the moving sourroundings at the same time. I can gladly say those days are over (although I don't believe in using a GPS because one doesn't know how to read a (paper) map).

The installation on the bike is straightforward, with running the wire for the electric hookup of the Zumo (included) took me the longest. I was amazed about the vibration free display. A big difference to what I get from the mirrors on my KLR at higher rpms. Although the included mount for the motorcycle has audio in and output as well as a USB connector I will not use them on the bike as the Zumo will be a visuell guide for me only. The Zumo comes here really handy when navigating in areas you don't know as it lets you concentrate on traffic and keeping an eye on those car drivers who are too busy to otherwise notice a biker.

Last but not least the built-in battery of the Zumo is supposed to last for up to 4 hours (I haven't tested the batteries capacity yet) in those instances when you're exploring places on foot. The battery recharges once you connect it back to your auto or bike mount.

In terms of the software that comes with the Zumo it allows you to plan trips ahead of time using MapSource (included). Mapsource works along with Google. However, the version of MapSource that came with the package did not recognize the Zumo properly which prevented up and downloads of routes, maps, waypoints to and from the Zumo. Downloading the latest version of MapSource from Garmin's website fixed that problem. So if you want to plan a ride this is one way you can do it.

I definitely don't regret bying the Zumo 450 and can only recommend it.

I bought the Zumo 450 for use on a recent motorcycle trip through Europe (Italy, Switzerland and France) I bought the Euro data base, which seemed quite pricey at $240, but I it turned out to be the best investment of the entire trip. The Zumo worked perfectly, although some of the route building methods seemed a little qwirky (it may also be that I spent no time learning it before the trip and everything was done virtually on the bike). Without the Zumo on this trip, I would likely still be wondering around Europe lost in the crazy traffic. The data base gave use the tinniest of roads and a great view of the Alps. We learned to trust it completely just follow the purple line and all will be well. You have to be careful though if you ask it to give you the shortest route, it will indeed be the shortest regardless of the type or size of road. We saw some pretty interesting sights in Switzerland this way. But shortest doesn't mean fastest. We learned to use the 'via' function to drag and select our map points to control the route then just press go and enjoy. Reception was instant and alway solid even in torrential rain and thick clouds, it even worked all the way through most of the tunnels except the Mont Blanc tunnel (7 miles !) I did get a look at the screen of a TomTom in a taxi at one point during the trip and think I like how TomTom depicts things like round-abouts better. The only criticism was the at very congested intersections or freeway ramps, the Zumo shows the turn at the geographic intersection which might still say 200meters ahead, but in fact you need to be in the right lane and already exiting right now, the lane lines require a bit of study and learning. Garmin might want to re-examine how they depict tightly spaced ramps and converging roads. But if you miss a turn, no worries, the Zumo was quick to recalculate and tell you what to do (U turn or turn later, etc.) Overall it worked excellent and you can trust Garmin. We did 2000Km overall and we all agreed that it saved us an entire day of reading maps and trying to figure out which way to go (we never read a street sign the entire trip). One of the coolest things was that we used a travel guide to select some hotels, the guide had a small map of the town showing the hotel locations, so we were able to zoom the Zumo into the destination point to show street detail, we could identify the street corner we wanted from the map and then tap the screen and select it as a destination point hit GO and have fun. The same worked for making short runs to points off the original route. The screen allows you to drag around with your finger to find the place you want to go, tap to select it as a destination or 'via' point and press GO. Pretty cool. It even has boat and train ferry routes. We once ended up at lakeside dock with 20Km to go on the trip and the purple line just went out into the water. We thought Zumo had hosed us, but a ferry boat came around the corner and voila! You mount the holder semi-permanently to the bike it would be difficult to move it bike to bike without multiple holders (the holder is u-bolted to the handlebar and hardwired to the bike's battery). But the Zumo itself snaps securely on and off in 1 second so you can take it inside and do programming or route planning running on its internal battery. It works well inside off-line without signal working just from the data base. We referenced maps at night because they are easy to lay out and plan, then selected points in the Zumo but you could do an entire trip without any paper map whatsoever. Overall 4 stars one deduct just because how the congested roadway software depiction is done we sometimes stopped at the apex of a multiple ramp convergence to be sure we were about to get the right one. A lot of this will be mitigated with practice and use, but it could have been a bit more clear I think. Nothing is perfect. Go for it. JS

I had been looking at the Zumo for quite some time before I finally decided to purchase it. I had been using a Magellan Meridian Color with a bike mount on my Harley. It did turn by turn but had no auto-rerouting and the routing was extremely SLOW (like I had passed the next turn before it registered it).

After scoping out EBay for a couple of weeks I found it more feasible to purchase my 450 on Amazon. The price was pretty close to the EBay listings that I was watching and the shipping was a STEAL (Only $10 and some change for overnight most of the ones on EBay were $25-40 for overnight).

I got the unit and it installed on the bike in a snap! The RAM mounting system is awesome. They really thought this through when they packaged the unit. Everything you need is all there in the box.

I don't have the hardwire hooked up yet as I am waiting on an adapter for my AUX switch on my Ultra Electra Glide. I connected the hardwire to a cigarette lighter adapter and ran it to a converter to charge the Zumo. One note on this is that the unit will only charge in the motorcycle cradle if it is turned on (handy if you hot wire it to the bike and don't want it draining your battery to charge).

When I received the unit it was showing 2 bars on the battery. This gave me about 3 and a half hours of life (much better than the Meridian which only gave 1 and a half to 2 hours with full brightness on this was the only way I could half see it on the bike).

I ordered a Auto cradle and auto charger also these work great the auto cradle actually has an integrated speaker so you can use it in the vehicle and get the voice prompts without hooking it to anything else.

Performance is awesome I get a full GPS fix in my garage (something the Meridian could NEVER do). Programming is really easy and the Navigator software installed is every bit as good as the Magellan software I used.

The screen is easy to read and follow even in direct bright sunlight (again a major problem with the Meridian)

With the RAM mount on the handlebars the unit is rock stable. No shake or problems (Impressive on a Harley with aftermarket exhaust!)

I HIGHLY recommend this unit. If you have been debating it make the move and get it!

I looked at the 550 with Bluetooth, XM, etc but the extra cost and with having to purchase a seperate XM antennae (about $200 more dollars for this alone)made me decide to stick with my MyFi and get the 450.

You won't be disappointed!

I bought the Zumo 450 a month ago and promptly mounted it to my 2003 Goldwing. The supplied RAM mount is excellent and provides for a variety of mounting positions. Wiring was made simple by Honda, as there is a fused auxiliary power supply under the left cubby.

The Zumo is exceptionally intuitive and easy to use. I played around with the unit for about a week while commuting to and from work. Then the fun began. I took a trip on the motorcycle from Seattle, WA to Blandon, PA and back. All told the trip was 7,000 miles. We did a ton of sight seeing during the trip, and thanks to the Zumo we had no stress about going anywhere we wanted to go.

With confidence, we rode into and around Chicago and Philadelphia. We took back roads out of Glacier National Park that we would never have seen had it not been for the Zumo directing us there.

Only had two issues with the Zumo while on the trip. The first one was that the unit froze up and would not turn on once. I followed the manual's instructions for resetting the unit (press the + and Power buttons at the same time) and I was off and running again. The second issue was that while in Philadelphia the Zumo told us to make a left turn when the street was a one-way street for traffic in the other direction. No big deal, just went an extra block and the Zumo immediately recalculated the route.

The Zumo has a ton of great features. The ones that I used the most on the trip were;

Knowing my actual speed vs. what my speedo was reading.

Altitude readings were fun!

Knowing how many miles were had left for the route in a given day.

Finding the nearest Hotels.

Finding the nearest Starbucks!

Finding the nearest gas station.

This thing has a bunch more features that I did not use much, but I am sure that I will get around to them soon. Going on another 1000 mile trip next weekend!

I am completely satisfied with this unit and would highly recommend it!

Peak PKC0CT 2/8/12 Amp Intelligent Battery Charger

This charger seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. I have three cars and the included clips to fit the battery posts are too small to fit any any of my cars. I purchased new, larger clips and added them to this charger. It seems to work well at first. I have an antique car the is only driven a few times a year and requires a "float charge" to keep the battery conditioned between monthly starts. This charger always changes to error code F05 after several hours of float charge. I thought the battery may be bad so I purchased a new battery (at over $100.00) and the charger does the same thing. I decided to check it on my other two cars with the same results. If you're looking for a charger to maintain a seldom used car, this isn't for you. I've since purchased a Exide charger and it's been flawless.

This light-weight charger with tiny clips may be well suited for occasional use for small batteries, but was a disappointing.

I had used this for a total of 5 times over the last year. It literally DIED, no sign of life no indicators, beeps...not even smoke. I did email the company with NO RESULTS. I had to go buy another charger not to mention the inconvenience of having to be stuck with a dead battery. I rate this a ZERO.

I bought this wire expecting 4guage wire. I have alot of 4 guage in my car right now and it is alot bigger than this new stuff. Although the shipping was pretty good, when i opened the package it was dissapointing to see this instead of 4guage. The image shows a deep black insulator which is not exactly what I received.

On the other hand, the electrons that flow through the cable, I am sure, won't mind the slight color issue.

As a 4 Gauge wire it is quite flexible and easy to handle. The bend radius, as one would expect is limited.

If you intent to use it in small spaces with tight bends, it is probably better to use some higher gauge wire.

I use it to connect a battery bank with wires of equal length together and don't want too much of a voltage drop between the individual batteries.

Went to Radio Shack to look for a universal adapter for my daughter's little BeBop CD player. They were charging like $30 just for the adapter and then you had to buy the tip separately. Wasn't sure how much that was but probably another $10. Searched here and bought based on reviews. This works great. Voltage selection is a great feature and the multiple tips are great. There is no noticeable heat coming from the unit. Finding the right polarity is important but not complicated at all if you know how to read. You match the symbols on your device with what is in the instructions and you are good to go.

Great price, arrived quickly, and is working perfectly. Another great Amazon purchase for me.

The adapter arrived today and I am pleased to say that there is one plug small enough to use on the Motorola Baby Monitor listed above.
