Kuryakyn 4219 Chrome L.E.D. Battery Gauge

After experiencing catastrophic stator-rectifier failure on a long motorcycle ride, I installed a Kuryakyn battery gauge. The gauge displays a series of LED lights with red on the left, then orange to the middle and green from center to right. As long as you have green lights flickering, you know the charging system is working. In the event of system failure, you get red/orange warning lights, and instead of a dead battery and motorcycle beside the road, you have some time to remove headlight fuse and shut off any other non-essiential electrical accessories, and hopefully have enough battery left to get home or to help. Pros: This thing is tiny, so you can mount it about anywhere, bright easy to see day or night. You can order it in chrome or black finish. Connect to any source that is normally on when riding, like tail light circuit. Negatives: In my opinion, the red light on the left is almost distractingly bright (of course you can tape over it).

This is a nice looking volt meter that looks good on your bike. It installs with very strong double-back tape. It's accurate enough to use as a baseline reference. Mine reads a little on the low side, but then, I connected it at the end of a small diameter switched accessory line. My Fluke meter showed lower voltage out there then at the battery. So I just consider what it normally reads as my standard to compare to if there are problems.

This thing is pretty bright. Enough so that you may be drawn to look at it too much. And in the wrong place at night I suspect it could be quite annoying. I decided to mount it on the steering neck, just below the handle bars. Meaning, when I look at it, I see it past the bottom of the handlebars. Most of the time I can't see it unless I look down. And at night it's far enough away, and at only a small angle up from flat, so I don't get the full brightness all the time.

It's a good gauge to add to your bike. But don't get obsessed with looking at it all the time.

I had problems with battery going dead so I bought this gauge to watch my electical system. It is just plain inaccurate. I gave it one star because it doesn't do it's basic function. I compared with a Fluke meter that I know is accurate and there is 2 volt difference. I called Kuryakyn and they said don't worry about the numbers, only the LEDs. However, there explanation of the LED scale doesn't match the 8 16 Volt scale.

Good product, easy to install. Only negative is the red and yellow and green LED's are always illuminated. At night they are a little distracting. Wish only the LED corresponding to the voltage would illuminate.

I am very disappointed with the screen protector though. It is a generic size, and you have to cut it to fit. Luckily the silicone skin covers the majority of the front surface, so non square cuts are hidden.

Would be nice to have one that didn't require cutting.

I really like the ability to charge the zen fi 2 whether at home or on the road. The silicone Skin does a great job of protecting my zen and the easy to install screen protector works great, too. It doesn't effect my ability to touch the screen menus and get immediate response. I would recommend this kit to everyone.

I currently work on handicapped scooter equipment and have had extensive past experience with both computer and surveillance battery backup systems. In the past, I have purchased batteries from other sources that probably had an extensive time on the shelf before sold, as indicated by charge held upon receipt, as well as poor performance and response to recharging. I have had this battery now for about 3 years. It is bigger than the standard German (BMW) car battery. No big deal, I put it on its side with the optional side mounts. First thing I noticed, it definitely goes dead rather quickly when tailgating, etc. compared to a deep cycle like the Optima Yellow Top. The worse part is shortly after a year my car low voltage indicator light would come on if the car sat for a few days. I contacted Kinetik and they said I had allowed the voltage to get too low when the car wasn't in use for about 3 months. I purchased the C-Tek charger per their recc. and now I have to plug the car in on a regular basis to get the voltage up. I can't complain too bad because the battery is still working (with routine charge), but I would try a different brand, especially because it wouldn't keep voltage after 13 months and the company blamed me and wasn't about to replace it.

Purchased this battery @6/18/2012, after its arrival we installed it in our UTV and used it all fall. Used the UTV off and on during the winter to plow snow but it sat for @2-3 weeks before we wanted to remove the plow. The UTV wouldn't even turn over then nor would the dash warning lights light up .Original battery lasted 4 yrs before replacing it with the Odyssey. I reinstalled the original after its sitting in the garage since June and it started the UTV right up. Voltage indicates half the cells are dead in the Odyssey thus voltage below 8v. The manufacturer won't replace nor will Amazon accept the return of it.

I'm very disappointed with this product. The holder actually grips the phone quite well, and opens reasonably easily to release the phone. The issue is the holder mounts onto the windshield mount by simply sliding down 1/16 of an inch on 4 small slots. If the unit turns at all, the holder and phone fall completely off. I won't even try to use this in my car, it falls off the arm while I'm holding it.

Update as of 10-24. Have heard back from the seller, item should lock into place. They are shipping out a replacement (testing it locally first). I will update the review once I have the replacement mount.

I'd contemplated buying one of these for a while, but didn't want to go through the hassle of taking my stereo out, and I'm always skeptical that things are going to work properly.

If something happened to my current car and I had to replace it, the first thing I'd buy now is one of these. Installation isn't difficult (tons of instructions on the internet, mine was a 4runner.)

Took a little time to figure out where I wanted to run the cables, but once that was done, I gave it a test run, and I absolutely couldn't be happier.

I have the 6 disc in dash changer, so this shows up as a secondary cd changer. the ipod controls are fantastic. I was really impressed when I had a song playing on the ipod (in direct mode) and hit FM to reset my stations and I noticed that it had automatically paused the ipod when I switched away to a different stereo mode. As soon as I returned to the external cd changer (which is what the radio thinks the ipod is) it unpaused and I picked up right where I'd left off.

As for features, the artist / track listing is great, since I don't have to look down to see whats playing (if its a song I haven't heard in a while from my ipod), and being able to get a shuffle going from the stereo is great. press the "rand" button, and it starts a shuffle from inside the current playlist. audio quality both from the ipod and using it as an aux port (with the rca inputs) is top notch.

Overall, I'd absolutey recommend this to anyone looking to add an aux or ipod port to their existing stereo, it has breathed new life into mine, prior to this I had been contemplating buying a new stereo, I'm good with what I have now.

Wow I own a 2003 Sequoia with the in-dash 6 disc changer. I googled the best advice for removing the radio. Gotta love Toyotas...two screws to remove the dash trim, four more to remove the radio. I had the PA15 wired and installed in 10 minutes. Radio back in the dash, trim kit reinstalled, here goes nothing... is this thing really going to work?

YES!!!! Works like a champ. Exactly as advertised. Here is the best part I couldn't find any reviews that mentioned attempting to hook up an iPad to the dock. So, with some trepidation I tried it.... it worked perfectly! I was sitting in my garage picking up the wifi from the house, streaming Pandora on my iPad through the stereo on the truck. Awesome! No more commercials and crappy FM signals in my vehicle.

The iPod functions work as advertised too. Installation was a snap, product is awesome.

WOW! I couldn't ask for an easier product to install and use! I have a 2005 Tacoma with the factory head unit. If you are looking to just add an iPod or iPhone feature this is the best way to go.

It seems a little expensive for what you get in the box. but honestly if you have half a brain you can install your self and save on the install cost.

Great device! It allows your IPod to act in place of an external CD changer. The device simulates 9 CD's, as follows:

----> 1-6: The first 6 playlists on your IPod. Or you can rename them as the instructions indicate to specify which ones you want it to read.

----> 7: All songs on your IPod.

----> 8: Direct control of the IPod device.

----> 9: Auxiliary input (such as the headphone jack on your phone, other MP3 player).

You can control 1-7 directly through your stereo and steering wheel controls. 8 & 9 are directly controlled from the device you have connected.

Installation was pretty easy for my 4Runner (non-JBL/non-nav head unit). I googled a walk through as a guide for getting to the stereo. The page suggested a 2 hour install time, however, it only took me 45 minutes to disassemble the dash, remove the radio, connect the device, test/play with it, and reassemble everything. It was extremely easy. (I definitely recommend using a ratchet/socket wrench!!)

I love the interface and functionality, the sound quality, dual inputs (ipod and aux), and ease of install, and would definitely recommend this device!

This product works great. It sounds great in the car and was VERY easy to install. I did it myself in just under an hour on a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Would recommend this to other music lovers who don't enjoy the static that an FM transmitter provides.

Was worried when I saw that the plastic material was not overly thick. However, they fit my 2006 Avalanche perfectly (front and rear) and are doing an excellent job of collecting wet beach sand on a small Caribbean island.

Sunforce 82156 60 LED Solar Motion Light

Pros:

Nice, bright light better than expected.

Adjustable settings for: 1. what constitutes dusk when the light begins to motion sense; 2. how sensitive the IR detector is to movement, and; 3. how long the light remains on.

Selectable modes for auto, on, or off.

IR sensor is adjustable up / down and left / right, separate from light.

Power cord from solar cell is very long and gives you more flexibility on installation locations.

Cons:

Mounting hardware (not the units themselves) is not galvanized or otherwise weather resistant (e.g. stainless). I used a silicon based caulk to cover screw heads and seams.

Light is only adjustable up / down so getting the light to face where you want may involve mounting additional hardware.

Adjustable settings have considerable hysteresis. (I was up and down a ladder many times)

I bought three of these; two of them took considerable time (15+ minutes) to start turning off in Auto mode, even with the sensitivity and time adjustments minimized. The third worked as soon as the switch was turned. All three had been given the same amount of time to charge beforehand (5 days).

I took one star for setup because I had almost given up on two of the three purchased. The adjustment settings were initially unresponsive and the lights just stayed on in Auto mode. When they finally turned off, everything started working as indicated. The adjustment knobs are not linear, so I recommend getting a second person to perform a walking test so that the first can stay on the ladder to tweak the settings. Also recommend using some sealant on the mounting hardware to keep it from rusting. I kept picturing two years from now: we're inside and something hits the side of our house and it looks like someone is shining a flashlight in the window as one of these lights breaks away and dangles from the power cord because of cheap hardware.

Once we were able to move beyond the setup and enjoy them, these lights redeemed some stars for how bright they are and the fact that they're solar with motion detection. I truly didn't expect the intensity to be this good and to last for so long. I'm sure this will vary with the availability of optimal charging sunlight, but the performance, brightness, function, and price are well worth it so far.

FYI the solar cell mounts to a ball-joint bracket on one of the long sides. The quickest comparison that comes to mind is the rearview mirror in a car. Except the range of movement is better on the solar cell. 360 degrees of rotation, and 180 degrees of tilt. Combine this with the length of power cord supplied and you have greater latitude on where you can install everything.

Very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to others. Feel free to respond with any questions or feedback. I'll try to remember to post a follow up in 6 months and see how they're holding up.

This light is very easy to set up and seems sturdy. The light housing itself is metal instead of plastic which I prefer. I replaced included rechargeable batteries with higher rated AA mHA ones. I charged the light inside for a couple of days and mounted to the outside deck. The motion sensor is sensitive and accurate. The light is small but illuminates better than expected. It lights approximately 200-300 square foot area very well. I don't know how it will handle in the long run. Our Wyoming winters can reek havoc on outdoor products, but the product is performing very well right now. Light includes customizable control settings for motion radius, light sensitivity and illumination duration. The only con would be that the mounting bracket only allows the light to pivot up and down and not side to side, so this does limit mounting options....the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5.

My home has some dark areas that do not have light fixtures available, and I have a couple of small dogs that I need to keep an eye on when I let them out. Instead of hard-wiring in new exterior lights (a MAJOR project to do, or costly to pay an electrician), I decided to go the "easy" solar light path. I purchased a "standard" (non-LED) light for over $100 from a local "big box" store, and the light works fine. But since I have several areas I want to light, I wanted to explore a lower-cost alternative, so I gave the Sunforce LED light a try.

Installation was super easy. It takes just a few minutes to screw in the light and solar bracket, and you are done.

But the best part comes (of course) after the sun goes down. This one light provides a decent amount of light over a large area (much more "flood" than "spot"). I would estimate that the main lit area is around 40 feet by 50 feet, which definitely exceeded my expectations, AND it beats the pants off the $100+ light. It is not as bright as a hard-wired flood light, but it isn't too far behind.

I like this light so much that I just ordered two more; actions speak louder than words, so that tells you what I really think about the lights ... A+!

Just follow the instructions as far as letting the sun charge these up for about 3 days before use...they work great! Just one thing...the instructions say to turn the dial to the sun icon setting ( * ) if you only want the unit to trigger at night. But of course this is a misprint. Instead, turn the dial all the way to the crescent moon icon to make this unit only trigger at night. Keeps from wasting the battery energy during daylight anyway. I love these..so easy to set up, and not have to wire anything! Bright too.

I mounted one of these above my front door to light up the stoop at night, and one inside my 8x12 shed. They work great in both locations. Construction is sturdy, but the light only moves up and down and not right to left, so mounting options are indeed limited. I've had them up and running for about a week and so far so good. They are brighter than I was expecting.

Update (March 22, 2012): these have been going strong for almost a year now. The one on my front porch works like a champ, and the one in my shed is bright enough to illuminate the entire 8x12 space. For the money, these are a great bargain. Changed from 4 to 5 stars.

Update (May 3, 2013): they are still working as great as the first day I installed them!

It seems as if everyone else had good results with this battery. My battery arrived DOA and was found to have a bad cell upon being tested. The seller quickly refunded my $ after I was able to find an auto parts place which was willing to test the battery and provide me with a printout of the results. This would have been a great deal for $35, but it cost me a substantial amount of $ in gas, driving all over town going to different auto parts stores. I couldn't wait any longer to get my bike running, so I had to buy an overpriced replacement at Bat + for $93. :(

I got my battery last week I got it on time I put in in my bike and I noticed that it was about a 1/4 inch taller than the gel battery that was in it so I left the battery cover off and it was still a lot of trouble getting the seat back on and to top it off the battery was weak it don't hardly crank the bike so I'm not so happy you get what you pay for.

This was cheaper than my scooter battery, about 1/5 the OEM price and works just as well on my 2002 Honda 919 (CB900F). Starts up the bike every time without fail or any discernible lull in amperage to the starter. Have had it for 6 mo. without problems.

There isn't enough information in the description. It just says fits "newer" Sirius models. Well, the SDST5V1 Starmate 5 is a newer Sirius model and this power cord does not fit the SDST5V1's power dock.

Item broke after about 3 months, the cord is made out of cheap plastic and it ripped right at the point where the cord meats the adapter for the cigarette lighter. FYI I thought that this thing might actually light up or something, because of the plastic see through top there, it doesn't. Just in case any of you were wondering about that.

Shipped fast. Worked, which is always good. Learned that plugging and unplugging from power port is probably the action that ruined my power cord in the first place. So, leave the power cord plugged in if you know that it won't drain your battery...probably wont on newer models.

Equus 3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor

The picture on Amazon site is not correct. This battery monitor shows the voltage value with .01 precision (or two digits after decimal point). That is far more then enought to tell the battery status. I put it in the car, it automatically switches between "battery status monitoring" and "charging status monitoring". When the engine is stopped, it is in "battery status monitoring mode", when engine is running, it will be in "charging status monitoring" mode. Amazon's price is even bettern then Walmart. Definitely a great value buy. Will recommend this item to my friends.

Seemingly just another auto gadget fortunately the Equus 3721 is more sophisticated than its ponderous description. A breeze to connect to any car's 12 Volt electrical system. Simply push into the lighter socket or an auxiliary power outlet now found in many newer vehicles.

With the engine running the instrument constantly displays battery condition with an LED light; amber when marginal, red if the battery is discharging. A green light indicates a correctly functioning electrical system. All is well with both battery and, most importantly, the alternator.

The Equus is also an accurate voltmeter. Digital read-outs give exact voltage in the electrical system. Potential alternator problems or a failing battery will be indicated by below normal voltages, plus an amber or red light. Extra information is a battery icon graphically showing total battery charge. Tending towards erratic read-outs, and therefore unreliability, it is not the unit's best feature.

Equus's instruction card is easy to understand. The unit is well made, sturdy, easy to connect and to transfer to any 12 volt system not having its own voltmeter. Also, as a supplemental monitor in an RV, or a bigger boat with a remote 12 Volt outlet in a sleeping area far from the main instrument panel, overall battery condition condition can be monitored while camping or at anchor.

Good value for money; very useful. From personal use, recommended.

The Honda 2005 civic has a marginal charging system. This meter is ideal for determining when it is time to turn off the radio to reduce load on the alternator. Voltage reading is very accurate, much better than 1% as measured against a small Beckman pocket meter, which in turn has been checked against a Powerex Wizard aa cell charger. Warning lights function well.

Some things to note when using this tester: Standard voltage of a 12 volt battery is 12.6 volts. Some deep cycle absorbed glass mat batteries will read 12.8. This is after loading the battery by turning on the headlights for 10 seconds, to remove surface charge. Note that while the lights are on, the voltage drops quickly at first, then the voltage stabilizes. Turning off the lights causes the voltage to rise again gradually. After a few minutes the voltage will stop rising. If the voltage settles at 12.6 (or 12.8 for AGM battery) battery is charged, assuming that the battery is near 68 degrees F. Lower temps raise the voltage, higher temps lower the voltage. For a standard battery figure about 12.66 volts at 32 F and 12.54 volts at 104 F battery temperature, not air temperature.

After a car has been running for awhile with no lights, radio, wipers, AC, heat or window defroster, the alternator may cycle letting the battery voltage drop for a while before kicking in. This is OK provided the charging is steady shortly after turning on the lights. An intermittant alternator will cause the red light to turn on and off when headlights are on.

The bar graph for battery condition is not very useful as the meter has only voltage information.

The instructions do not state that this tester is for negative ground cars only, a small quibble as positive ground is not common.

Had I bought this device six months ago I could have avoided killing a brand new battery in six months.

I purchasted this unit to use in a small aircraft that has no built in battery monitor.

The unit failed within one hour of use.

It was too cheap to bother to send back so I took it apart.

I found two loose screws holding the circuit board and display in place and a bad solder joint.

I repaired the solder joint and tightened the screws and the unit has been working fine ever since.

Unless you are an Electronic Engineer like me I would not recomend this unit.

Strangely enough, the internal components appeared to be high guality.

It was not assembled correctly.

It's OK if it works.

just got the monitor from amazon based on the reviews here. the actual device is slightly different from it looks in the picture, with rounder edges. i guess the new product has been revised. also the protective plastic film is extremeply easy to peel off, a bit too easy i would say. or it might have something to do with the weather. here in singapore it's 30C all the time. the device has good build quality. the monitor can show two different tiny icons above voltage reading, under the battery and charging modes. the LCD is clear with bright blue backlight. basically it doesnt cost arm or leg but does all i expected. i will leave it plug in all the time in my car. i am sure i will be alerted by the unusual low voltage one day to realise the time to replace my battery. that will be the time i can recover the cost of this product by saving the expensive recovery service.
