This device, about half the size and weight of a brick, contains a 14.8V 000mAh lithium battery and an 90W inverter. The inverter can be powered off the internal battery or external 12VDC source. The internal battery theoretically has a 56watt*hour capacity but in practice about 40Watt*hours makes it through the inverter. On the internal battery, run time is about 12 hours with no load, 1:50 with a 19W load (digital oscilloscopeRigol DS1052E 50 MHz Digital Oscilloscope with 2 channels plus USB storage and connectivity and 1 GSa/sec sampling with switching supply), and an estimated 25minutes with a 90W load. To estimate runtime, divide 40Watt*hours by the sum of the average power consumption in watts of the device to be powered and 3.3watts internal waste. Use a Kill-A-Watt meter ($25) to measure the average power consumption of devices which may be lower than the worst case values on nameplate. It is generally a mistake to use an inverter to power low power devices when running off local battery. The low efficiency of the inverter and AC supply combined is perhaps 60% compared to about 87% with a 12V car charger/adapter and the quiescent current when the load is not drawing power is around 3.5-25W for the inverter/ac supply vs about 0.035W for the adapter. AC powered devices are also often less efficient. It was a mistake not to include a 12V power outlet on this device. USB port is only rated for 500mA and does not have a separate power switch meaning you are wasting 3.3W instead of 0.035W. This device should have been built with a metal case/passive cooling instead of a power sucking fan. The fan uses relatively low power, sounds like it has poor quality bearings, and runs whenever the inverter/usb is on or whenever connected to an external power source. Because the life expectancy of the fan is poor, this might not last long use as a UPS for your DSL/cable modem.

With an external $80 26pound U1 size 12V 35Ahsealed lead acid deep cycle battery Lead Acid Battery(and separate charger or solar panels) run time can be extended about 10fold. A 20W solar panel ($60) LiteFuze® 20W Mono-crystalline Solar Panel 20 Watt High-Efficiency Durable Heavy Duty Long Lasting Frame could recharge this device in about 1 day, although the specs don't say if the "12V" input will withstand the 20V open circuit voltage of a "12V" solar panel. And it certainly doesn't claim to have maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) or it might be a good match for a small solar panel. The Li-Ion battery back inside is worth about $50 but has about 1/10th the capacity of a heavier and larger $80 sealed deep cycle lead acid battery (smaller than average car battery). Since the enercell is Li-Ion and doesn't bring out the battery connections, you can't just add a battery and expect this device to keep it topped off.

BTW, the internal battery pack should be charged at least once a month due to internal leakage if you want it to have juice when you need it; for maximum shelf life, though, when not needed to be ready it is best to store at 40% charge.

Run a piece of AC powered test equipment such as a digital oscilloscope without cords or available ac power. Run a 6W netbook for about 4 hours (netbook battery will run 4-10hours). Or run it in car or on emergency battery at lower efficiency if you neglected to buy the car charger. Laptop maybe an hour, if that. High powered desktop computer, not at all. Power out, phone lines up, netbook charged but you didn't buy a 12V adapter for your DSL modem? Run it for a few hours on this device to get disaster info. Maybe run your wireless router, too, halving the runtime. Run a 27W Razor 23" LED backlit LCD 1080P HDTV for about 1.3 hours, long enough to catch a newscast in an emergency, if you don't have a battery operated TV. Don't try to run your 50" TV; it will probably overload this device. My HLT71 battery operated TV draws about 8W when not trying to charge internal battery) so it could run almost 4 hours extra. Maybe you forgot to upgrade your battery operated TV to work with digital TV and need to power your converter box. Maybe you need to fire up your AC powered CB or ham radio (QRP) base station long enough to get out a distress call. You aren't going to cook, heat or cool your house, do your laundry, or keep your food refrigerated (you might run a 50W thermoelectric cooler for about 45minutes but those need to run close to 24hours/day to keep food cold). You might run a clip on fan for a couple hours. You aren't going to run power tools. You can charge your cell phone but there are more efficient ways to do that. Slow chargers would be particularly inefficient with this device. You didn't think about emergencies when you bought your AC only weather radio? Well, you can run it off this device long enough to check the forecast but you can't run it 24hours/day to monitor for alerts (without inefficient use of external battery). Run your AC powered AM/FM or Shortwave radio for a bit if you don't have a battery powered one. It doesn't have a built in flashlight. Run a 16W compact fluorescent for about 2 hours. You can loan a little power to your neighbor or bring a little inside from your car. I would not plan on using this device as the primary way to run anything in an emergency but it can be useful for those things that slipped through the cracks in your planning.

This is a cute little device that didn't have great bang for the buck or capacity as a serious source of emergency power, particularly with the design flaws and inadequate documentation, at its retail price (particularly in a bad economy) but at closeout prices is a good deal. Add to that the product packaging and documentation which fails to tell you what you needed to know, for the few people who even knew it existed during the short stay on retail shelves, so people would be reluctant to shell out $100 for enough units to keep it in production. This is a very handy power source for running any AC device within the 90W capacity limit. It integrates a lithium battery with the small AC inverter in one small package. It has a cooling fan so there is some ambient noise. I use this device to power a pair of Audioengine2 powered speakers (which are remarkable in themselves) so my application is noise sensitive. I house the inverter inside a softpack carrier wish is used to carry the speakers and this pretty well baffles the noise. Could be used to provide extra power to laptops as well. The Enercell can be recharged from a 12-volt cigarette lighter or from a 120-volt wall outlet.

Just bought another one under $10. What a steal for a portable 120 vac or USB source.

I must say I'm very happy with the price! At less than $10, it is cheaper than most inverter on the market, yet it doubles as a batter back up as well as an inverter. I've just received the product and did some short test, so far I'm happy. Will know more once I go on a trip to Florida. I plan to use it as the inverter in the car and as power backup for my laptops and ipads.

Now, a few things I wasn't happy: the picture on amazon made it look much smaller than it is. The real thing is very thick, almost like a cube. Also, although the fan noise is not very loud, it is the whiny type that can be annoying. Hopefully with music on, it won't be too much trouble.

This llittle fella was the answer to a prayer. I needed to video record a special concert that lasted four hours. I recorded the sound on a separate device so the few parts to assemble the better.. The max batteries for the Canon camera only last 100 min. so I would have needed 3 @ $137.00 each. I discovered this unit which allowed me to plug the AC adapter for the camera in and record the entire night. It was incredible!! I have since done the same thing for another concert and it seems to last about 320-340 minutes. I have also powered my laptop for an additional 2½ hours when necessary.. SIRIUS Stiletto 2 Portable Satellite Radio with MP3 Player

I thought about writing a review for some time now. I wanted to make sure I was out of the honeymoon phase before I wrote about this device. I have had it for over a couple of weeks now and feel like it's time.

I purchased the Stiletto 2 as a late Christmas present to myself. I had signed up originally for the 3-day trial and loved the radio selections. I live Montana and our radio stations are pretty decent, but we have a lot of commercials. So, being able to listen to music without commercials is fantastic.

I wasn't sure what device to purchase, so I started reading. I had read a number of reviews (particularly the poor ones) about the Stiletto 2, but I liked the portability aspect, so I purchased it.

I now understand their complaints. They want better reception from the device itself, better/more comfortable headphones, etc. I agree the reception on the device isn't the best when indoors, but I purchased the home kit and that significantly improved reception.

When I am away from my home dock, I connect through Internet radio and it works just fine.

I also bought the car kit, but haven't had a chance to install it yet. I was able to get reception in my car without it though, so I imagine the car kit will only improve upon that.

The user interface is quite easy to navigate and the controls on the device are fairly intuitive. I like to test devices without reading the manual first to see how easy it is to figure out and the Stiletto 2 was pretty straightforward. I had to refer to the manual to understand the recording options, but otherwise, it was simple.

The recording option is fantastic. I set up a number of recurring sessions in the middle night. In the morning, I can then listen to them when I am working out, running errands, etc. I think this is probably one of the best features of the device. I have 15+ hours of recorded content and have used only 35% of the internal memory. Replay is fantastic. You can skip through songs just like your MP3 player and for me, that's a great option.

The size of the device is just right. It fits in my pocket, but it's not so small that I am afraid it's going to get broken or lost.

The battery life has been more than adequate. It's rated at like 4+ hours for Satellite or Internet radio and 20+ for recorded or library selections. I can attest that I have listened to it for many hours without running out of power. I wouldn't mind having a spare battery, but it's probably overkill.

As for the additional SD card slot. It's too bad it's under the battery. When you install an SD card, it's like you are putting in RAM in your laptop. This is not simple or intuitive for a lot of people (thinking of my mom here). I am sure there was an architectural reason, but it's too bad it's not just inserted on the side like a number of cell phones.

I have owned a number of musical devices in my life, 5+ iPods, a Zune, Rio, CD players, Walkmans, etc, but I can say this device has really reminded me of how music can be such a wonderful part of your life. I listen to my radio non-stop, and I wouldn't have it any other way now.

As the subject states, I really wanted this to work.

For those who read through my review, I want to make it clear that I am a Sirius fan. I've had a Sirius satellite radio in my car for two years now and I cannot imagine driving around without it.

Last year I accepted a new job that puts me on the train every day instead of in the car for my morning commute. I've missed my satellite radio since then so for the last few months, I've had my eye on the Stiletto. I decided to wait for the Stiletto 2, and I finally took the plunge over the weekend.

Out of the box, the radio looks very attractive and fits perfectly in my hand. The large display is colorful, bright, and easy to read and navigate. The controls are very easy to operate. Overall, a very intuitive design.

The radio is feature packed. You can import your own music into the device via included software. In my opinion, there is plenty of space for stored content out of the box (about 100 hours worth) and I think that will acommodate most people. For those of us with large music and audio book libraries, the added micro-SD card slot is a nice touch. Another feature was wireless connectivity. Some claimed they had problems with frequent disconnects. I didn't have this problem.

Activation was pretty simple, however I couldn't grab a signal indoors, I needed to stand outside on the front porch to complete the activation and the initial download of the channels. I was hoping this wasn't going to be a typical problem, as I even had the antenna headset plugged in. By the way, I've heard rumblings about the Altec Lansing headphones being uncomfortable and I would have to agree. I think Sirius could have made a better choice in headphones, since they seem to be a requirement for this device to get any kind of a signal.

Now, on to reception. Let me make it perfectly clear that I live in the outer suburbs of Chicago. I live near a small city called Crystal Lake, and although is not very close to downtown Chicago, I wouldn't consider myself as living in the "boondocks" either. I also want to make it clear that I purchased this radio so I could listen to it on the train. Those of us who have long train commutes would appreciate having such ability to listen to their iPod or satellite radio. And since my commute is up to 1.5 hours each way (up to 3 hours round trip commute) one could see how I would become excited about bringing my Sirius programming with me on the train.

When I first put the headphones on and fired up the unit, I was standing in the depot after having just finished mixing my coffee. No signal. Okay, so I walked outside and with a cloudless sky, I was able to get two bars and I was able to listen to the radio. I walked across the tracks and went to one of the open-air shelters (it was a particularly cold day and there are warmers installed overhead in the shelter.) As soon as I entered the shelter, I lost signal. Huh, okay. I decided to test it. I walked out of the shelter and received signal again. I walked around and although uninterrupted, I walked under a tree and the signal was interrupted. I started to become discouraged.

So, the train arrived and I boarded, selected a window seat and settled in. I was very disappointed (heartbroken, would be a better term) that I could not get a signal for pretty much the entire train ride. I tried moving the headphone wire closer to the window, I tried leaning my head closer to the window, tried holding the unit closer to the window, but the screen continuously displayed "Acquiring Signal." It was only when we were a couple miles from downtown that I was able to get a signal, but I attribute this to retransmitters that I hear people talking about.

I realized the same results on the way home. I tried it again the next day, this time sitting on the upper row of seats but to no avail. Since this purchase was primarily for entertainment while on the long train commute, I have decided to return the radio. I suppose I'll look into XMs option or just get an iPod. I will keep a sharp eye out for future offerings from Sirius and XM. I haven't given up on my quest to bring satellite radio with me where ever I go.

I give this product two stars, for the added features and well designed menues and navigation. It's too bad that I couldn't use it for its intended purpose, hence the deduction of three stars.

This item is a homerun. I had the first Sirius Stiletto and that, while a nice item, was a little limited with it's WIFI connection and also it was a little large.

Sirius hit a homerun with this, the much improved SL2. To start off, the WIFI capability has been expanded to support 802.11b/g and also will work with most wireless hotspots. Plus, you can now enter a username and password to connect where you could NOT do this on the first Stiletto.

In addition to it's upgrade, it is also almost 30% smaller that the first Stiletto yet this item does not feel cheap. It is very solid, yet very small. It is slightly larger than a Motorola Razor phone. The feel of the device is also very nice with the all black look and the rubberized plastic covering on the back that will prvent scratches when set down.

Overall, the performance of the device has been 100% perfect with no lockups, freezes or issues. Plus, the exandable memory is GREAT. You can add up to an 8gb micro sd card making this a 10 gig MP3 player (2 GB internal memory).

Sirius has also updated the channel logos and wallpaper screens for each individual channel. Plus, the sports alerts are much improved and when listening to on NFL game, the screen displays a graphic of each team's helmet, ie. if the Raiders are playing the Cheifs there will be a Radier Helmet and a Chief helmet on the screen. This doesn't enhance your listening of course, but does make for a nice touch.

There are a few other added features but most importantly, they have included a bass boost with four settings (off, low, med, high) and also SRS Focus, also with four settings. The sound is much improved over it's predecessor when using as an mp3 player and, in my opinion, far better sounding than any IPOD.

The antenna headphones are probalby the BIGGEST improvement as the original ones were god awful. The improved headphones are extremely comfortable and are made by Altec Lansing. Portable reception has also improved with this device but if you do not live near a terrestrial signal repeater, you are probably going to be forced to either use the Antenna Headphones or try to connect over a wireless network because the built in antenna on the device is just not that strong and probably never will be---this is just a shortcoming of satelitte radio, not of the SL2 or Sirius.

Overall, I am loving life with this device as it is now my Satellite Radio for use in my home, car and in portable modes and also my primary MP3 player. I ditched my Ipod since I am now able to squeeze 10gb onto this player. Also, I can record any Sirius program on a daily basis and listen back when I have the time.

If you have been considering Sirius, or your are a current subscriber looking to upgrade to a better radio, your 100% best choice would be the Stiletto 2. A great device without a lot of cool features and capabilities.

having used numerous consumer and expert reviews in the purchasing of the Stiletto 2, i feel the need to present my experience and opinion on this new receiver. first off, as a long time Sirius customer, i love satellite radio! even if you don't go with this unit, i highly recommend Sirius or XM to anyone that travels a lot or just enjoys listening to radio stations that stick to the stuff they want!

now for the Stiletto 2....

my previous receiver was a basic radio with the car and home kit that lasted 4 years, so upgrading to the Stiletto 2 was a major price jump and leap of faith on my part. i read the reviews (good and bad), product descriptions, and expert analyses. my conclusion? the Stiletto 2 is a very cool toy with lots of features and a sleek attractive design. the sole detractor to it is the extreme reliance on the accessory kits (not included).

ANTENNA RECEPTION: this is the major complaint of most negative reviews. the truth is that the Stiletto 2 has the same reception capabilities as any other unit WHEN outside or connected to a external antenna (only included in home or car kits). it will not work well indoors or in areas with significant obstructions to the sky, just like any other receiver. and its built-in antenna does allow you to listen to it with headphones while walking around outdoors. the Stiletto 2 also has a built-in wi-fi connection, allowing you to listen Sirius over wireless internet networks.

LOOK AND FEEL: nice design, lightweight, easy access menus, color display...overall A+

MP3 PLAYER: cool bonus that allows you to switch between Sirius radio and mp3 modes. the product description claims 2GB worth of space. however, only 800 MB is available for downloaded music, as the rest is designated exclusively for recording live programming from the Sirius channels. if you want more room for your mp3's, you can plug in a microSD card (up to 8GB) with your music into the Stiletto 2 and increase the size of your playlist!

STAND-ALONE/ACCESSORIES: out of the box, the Stiletto 2 will only run using headphones or earbuds. if you want to play it in your car or home, you MUST get an accessory kit (either home or car). websites claim that the universal kits for Sirius radios are compatible with the Stiletto 2. THIS IS MOSTLY INCORRECT! the external antenna is standard, but does not plug directly into the receiver. a cradle (included in kits) is necessary to play Sirius through your car or home stereo. the AC/DC adapter is also a different size and voltage. if you buy the home kit, you can only connect to a stereo via audio cables. this is a change from other receivers, which allow either a wired connection or have a built-in FM transmitter. only the cradle that comes with the car kit allows you to connect to a stereo over an FM signal. my suggestion to those that want the Stiletto 2 to work on any stereo or have previous Sirius radio kits is to buy the Stiletto 2 car kit only, and use your previous antennae to run the radio at home using the car cradle.

i give the Stiletto 2 a three-star rating. it has very nice features and a good look, but some of its advertised capabilities are misleading. there is no reason that the unit should not be able to FM transmit to any stereo without a car cradle, other than to gouge customers out of another $50.

Since I moved to an area where temps freeze my windshield, I have wanted an indoor/outdoor thermometer for my car. This one fills the bill, and has a self contained battery that operates the clock and thermometer. You will need to use the car plug if you want to monitor your voltage.

You install by running the outdoor temp cord under the dashboard. The instructions suggest that you place the outdoor sensor on the edge of the car door. This will keep it from picking up engine heat. You will lopikely want to use some of your own tape to help guide the cord. The indoor sensor is built into the clock. When reading, the instructions state that you alternate between outdoor and indoor temps, but both appear on my screen.

I spent some time comparing the temps before installing this, and found them to be very close to what my other thermometer read. Best of all, it will give a warning if the outside temps are below freezing, or if your voltage gets too low.

I had no idea that these were available in this price range, and while it isn't high quality, it is a nice addition to the car for a low price. I am grateful that Innovic allowed me to test a complimentary one on my car so that I could consider it for review. Since the voltage meter isn't critical for me, I only wish this didn't take up my only car plug, since I use it often to keep my phone charged.

I have some headlamps and other off-road gear (winch and tire jack) that I never knew could put such a drain on the battery. I always just monitor it for fun now, never actually had an issue with it going out of range.

I've found the temperature gauge is really accurate. It always agrees with what other people's car read within a degree or two. Sometimes the internal temperature readings may get skewed because it sits really close to the AC vent, but who cares? You know how hot or cold it is inside the car. Outside the car is what you want to know and it does a pretty good job.

Took about an hour and a half to install. Read the manual and get the long wire routed through wherever you need it to go before making sure you have the proper connections made. The best part about the thing is the clock it's easy to program and has a really bright LCD display. In full sun in the surf of the beach or a dark campsite at night, you can see the readings clearly no matter what.

Nice little gage. Voltage display is very easy to read day or night. You can easily switch the back light color from blue to amber. I placed the "outside" temp. sensor inside the engine area so its reads the amient air temp around the engine. Its not water proof, but, I've been through some light rain without any issues. My only issue is the votlage part of the gage reads about a 1/2 volt low. Thought it might be votlage drop at the place where I hooked it up but my fluke meter reads full votlage at the same location. Hence only 4 stars instead of 5.

This product looks exactly as pictured. i purchased this product primarily for the clock. The clock is in 24 hour format all the time, no way to switch it. the temp sensors seem way off and the voltage display fluctuates all the time from 13.2 .4.2.3.4.2.3 14.1.2.1.2.4.3 (kinda distracting). the backlight looks nice in amber and matches my Mazdas interior nicely and is easy to read. the blue back light, however, is hard to read, especially at nite. the unit is hard to mount as it comes with a little 1" inch velcro tab on the back as well as a flip down foot, however it doesn't stay in any one position as it is not notched or anything, and will fall backwards if you dont prop it up with something. the wires come out of the right side (probably meant for right handed car) and the unit seems a bit bulky especially if you have the plug it into a 12v cig port(of which i had to get a splitter) just to get the back light to turn on; and if your cig port doesn't turn-off when you turn off your car, then you would have to unplug it every time you parked. also the unit uses a small watch battery to power the unit without the backlight. would be nice to have maybe a AAA or something more standard (just a thought)...... this unit did however work well on my motocycle 8)

This looks great, as long as you're looking at it straight on. Even the slightest angle of viewing and it disappears not too many places in the car to mount it where you'll be staring straight at it.

It's a shame pretty cool little gadget, but the cheap display makes it pretty much useless.

Ordered the Alpine cable that was advertised and got some crappy knockoff that doesn't work as expected. So no I am not happy and no this is not a ding against Alpine.

Alpine KCE-422i iPod Connection Cable arrived quickly and in a plastic pouch. The cable connects somewhat loosely into my Ipod Video and wiggles around. The cable must be pushed upwards slightly to enable stereo output. When it is not being pushed up, only my right speakers work. Broken wire or bad connectors are my guess.

I now have an Ipod with a rubber banded cord wrapped around it to supply constant pressure on the loose connection. Works, but for a simple connector that costs this much I would hope that it least worked all the time.

Connector connects poorly. Perhaps shipping with better packaging would help.

Would not suggest this item to a friend.

I purchased an Alpine 9886 Head unit, which already comes with a REAL Alpine KCE-422I cable, although I was led to believe by the good people at Amazon that it did not, so I followed their lead in the optional accessories line to this product, which unfortunatly I bought. I recieved the car stereo and Discount Jungle's cable the same day. I noticed the difference in the two cables immediatly. The Knock-offs connections are looser and the cable is stiff and unflexible. On the other hand, the REAL 422i has tight and smooth connections, with nice limber cable.

Make no mistake.THIS IS NOT AN ALPINE PRODUCT! Nowhere is the word Alpine to be found on the shipping envelope, and since the cable is just wound up and thrown in the the bag without any store-type pakaging(like the one I saw at Best Buy,which is also a Real Alpine Cable) The only place that says this is an Alpine product is on Amazon's site. I will Never buy from Discunt Jungle again!

Wow, I can't blv I'm saying this. I'm very dissapointed with Alpine. I dished out the money to buy this cable to use on my new Alpine 9887. I planned to hide my Ipod in my glove compartment and just use the remote and head-unit to operate it.

However, I noticed that when I park my car my ipod remains powered on, which is very problematic, because it means the battery will end up being drained.

I hope Alpine recalls these cables and released a new improved version. I'm going to keep my cable but next time I'll think twice before buying another alpine product and so should you.

PACKAGING:

Item comes in one large box containing two boxes: one for each headrest. Packaging was very good. I received everything pictured plus cables. The instruction manual is not very good but that was expected. The two dvd headrests are identical. The headrests are big, remember 9" LCD.

INSTALLATION:

I decided to undertake the installation myself. I have a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. The headrest poles positions are adjustable and I was able to fit them easily into my headrest pole inserts. Additional pole sleeves are included, I assume for headrests with thicker poles. The wire runs through the left post (facing the LCD), I ran the wire through the seat back and out through the botton of the seat. Supplied cables are long. It then connects to another supplied cable, which breaks out the wire into 1. power (with a fuse box) PWR and GND and 2. input A/V cables. I decided not to use the input A/V cables because I did not want to run another cable to the other DVD headrest (which would be outside the seat and visible). You would only want to add this cable if you wanted the option to view the same DVD on both LCDs.

After some testing, I found the main connector for the power seats (containing the 12V power wires use a multimeter to test for the 12V wires even if you don't have power seats, the power connector may still be there, my passenger seat is not a power seat but the power cable was still there). I wanted to connect to a continuous 12V power; thus, the DVD player would be on even while the engine was off. I was able to jam the PWR and GND wires into the 12V power connector jacks without splicing the wire.

I do not know the power draw for the DVD players, it may drain your battery if you do not drive your car for an extended time period. You can always unplug the first cable to cut all power to the player.

PLAY:

Once installation was completed, the DVD headrests worked as expected. Overall the quality is very good. Though, I worry about the plastic hinges and locking clips: with some rough play, I am sure you can damage them easily. This DVD player is located on the back of the LCD, as a result everytime you have to change the DVD, you need to lift the player and change the DVD upside down or lift, rotate, and lower the player to forward face the DVD player and then repeat to forward face the LCD. Anyways, thats a lot of wear on the hinge and I hope they built it tough.

I have not figured out how to flip the image so that you can view the LCD if it is set on top of the headrest (as one of images from the description shows). But I cannot picture using this position too often because then the LCD touches the roof of my car.

We have played real DVDs and burned DVDs with no problems. We have not tried any other media types. Nor have we used the USB or memory card slot.

We have tried the games and the kids enjoy them and there are lots of games on the supplied disks. Wired controllers are for the 16-bit games and the wireless controller is for the 32-bit games (better graphics).

You have to remember to set one player to channel A (default) and the other to channel B; in order, to get the wireless headphones to work properly. The only batteries you need to supply are for the headphones, all other batteries are supplied.

The FM transmitter works great, you can set the frequency and match it on your car radio and your kids will enjoy the sound through your car system (but you probably won't).

SUMMARY:

Item is great for the price. The LCD looks great, picture is excellent, though, volume control could be better (more range). Manual is not very good. Wiring is start forward, if you know the basics; if not, ask someone who does. Color (mine was grey) was a bit off but that was to be expected. Build quality is good but I drilled it into my kids to be gentle when handling the DVD player. The zipper covers hides the DVD players. They look great with no visible wires. And though we've only had them for a month, we are very satisfied.

Was a bit nervous due to the no-name brand and price.. But so far I've had no problems. It is an amazing package for the $340 I spent. The DVD setup is great, the AV output to the other monitor works awesome. The quality of the screens is great. Haven't tried the controllers or free games yet, but I don't really need those or care, this is a great setup and I have already recommended it to a few friends. For the price, I doubt anything even comes close.

Overall, two thumbs up. I typically don't write product reviews, but I looked around and tried a number of methods and devices to do what I describe in the following, and after much time and mistrials, the only product I found that does it all is the GoGroove FlexSmart.

I wanted the product to do three things: (a) First, I wanted a car charger for my iPhone 4. The FlexSmart does that just fine, and the price of the item is about the same as an Apple car charger. (b)I wanted a iPhone holder for the car; it's OK for that. A little bit wobbly, but I feel safe mounting my device to it. Its gooseneck neck isn't too long, which probably adds to the stability, but it also makes it somewhat crowded around my car's dashboard controls (e.g., heater knobs). I can live with that. (c) I wanted an FM tuner base. I tried the only FM tuner presently suggested by Apple for iPhone 4, the Belkin, which contrary to what Apple states, did not work with my iPhone 4. The GoGroove tunes my iPhone 4 just fine.

A couple of minuses: (1) the materials the GoGroove are made from aren't top notch. It's worth the $40 I paid, but not much more than that. (2) I have to take my iPhone out of its bumper to properly seat with the GoGroove. The same was true with the Belkin tuner, so that's probably a problem with Apple's bumper.

My previous FM transmitter/charger for the iPhone 4 was the NEEWER FM Transmitter, which I do NOT recommend. I purchased two of these over a one year period because the 12V adapter stopped working in the first one. The second one worked for a time, but after a few months, the charger began blowing the fuse for my radio/cigarette lighter. I went through ten fuses before I finally decided to buy the Flexsmart 4i.

--Hardware--

When I received the product, I was very impressed with the packaging and detailed instructions a good hint as to the quality of the product. Installation was a snap. I have a '96 Honda Accord, where the cigarette lighter is located near the bottom of the dash panel and to the right of the shifter. I had no problems inserting the adapter into the cigarette lighter, a common issue I've seen in other reviews. The gooseneck mount made it easy to keep it out of the way, plus you can orient it in landscape for GPS navigation. The ability to adjust the side-grips allowed me to keep my inCase plastic case on as well as keep it securely in place. I live on a mountain, so I drive on lots of windy, bumpy roads and never once had it slip. It's also very convenient (and safe!) to have my iPhone at arm's reach. Releasing the side-grips to remove the device was also very simple and quick.

--Features--

The four preset buttons are very useful for quickly changing stations. Selecting one instantly jumped to it with no skip. I haven't tested the autoscan feature though. Music came through very clearly on my selected channel with very little static, which is excellent considering there are several radio towers and lots of interference on the mountain. Bass reproduction was no problem for me either. The feature I was most impressed with was how quickly it charged. The Neewer FM transmitter was barely capable of charging the device faster than the battery was being drained. With the Flexsmart, my battery charged from 89% to 100% after only 20 minutes, even with music, GPS, and 3G/Edge/WiFi enabled.

My only complaint with this product is that the LCD readout for frequency is very difficult to see even in moderate sunlight (I don't have any tint on my windows). However, the preset feature partially solves this as I already know the four stations that have the clearest sound in the areas I commonly travel. Overall, this is an excellent product and I highly recommend it to anybody with an iDevice.

I bought this mount in preparation for a vacation that was going to involve a lot of driving. I use my phone in conjunction with the free MapQuest app as a GPS unit, and I learned the hard way that I really need some kind of mount for it. My old mount cost about $20, and uses a suction cup system to adhere to the dash, with sticky gel to "hold" the cell phone in place. After about six months of rattling around in my pickup, the suction cup doesn't hold any more, and the sticky is long gone from the gel pads. I had no confidence that it would hold my expensive iPhone 4 safely.

One of the other problems I had with my original mount was with the cords. I had a power adapter plugged in to keep the device charged, and was using an audio cable to connect the phone's headphone jack to the Aux in on the car stereo in order to listen to MP3s, and to hear my GPS program's friendly computer voice through the car stereo. I found that the cords were always getting in the way, and one or both of them would frequently get bumped and unplugged, causing distraction while driving. So I decided that since I was going to buy a new mount anyway, I might as well see if I could combine at least one of these features with the mount system.

The GOgroove FlexSMART mount works very well for my needs. The arm is strong, and holds the phone securely in place, and the padded clamping system makes me much more comfortable about the safety of my phone in all but the most dire of scenarios. I was dubious of the FM Transmitter at first, having tried a cheap one in the past, with which I was completely dissatisfied. I am happy to report that this one works very well. On long trips, I do have to occasionally switch frequencies, but overall that has not been a big deal. Shopping around for a new frequency once every 200+ miles really was not much of an inconvenience. The price-point on this unit was a little higher than I expected, but I have been very satisfied with the product, so I can't complain.

I did experience the issue reported by some of the other reviewers of this product, wherein the iPhone 4 displays an error message stating that the add-on is not compatible with the phone. However, I discovered that the error seems to only appear when the "bumper" case is on my phone. Apparently, it puts a bind on the docking port (probably not a good thing) causing a mis-alignment which makes the phone "think" that you are attempting to connect an incompatible third-party product. Luckily for me, my bumper case is a two-piece design, with the bottom third easily removable for docking the phone with something like an iHome station, and as long as I remember to remove the bottom piece before sliding the phone into the GOgroove, everything works perfectly. So if you happen to experience this issue with an iPhone 4, try removing the bumper from your phone before you return the item.

Another nice unsung feature of this mount is the ability to switch off the charger, so that you can safely leave it plugged into your dashboard power accessory outlet when not in use.

Overall, I am very happy with this device. I highly recommend this mount.

Although this item worked great with my Android phone using the optional headphone jack cord, it was a nightmare for my Iphone 4. First, I got a warning that the Gogroove was not compatible with the Iphone as soon as it was directly mounted. For some reason, despite the warning it still lets you open up and play your music files. After a while though the iphone began to get really hot and another warning that I've never seen before appeared stating that the iphone was overheating. After just 2 weeks of use with iphone 4, the Gogroove completely overheated the iphone and blew a circuit in my car, shorting out the radio and my cigarette lighter. Fortunately, the iphone was fine, it just shut itself off to cool down.

I had to replace the fuse which I was not happy about. And I called Gogroove's customer service and they told me the 3-yr warranty they keep praising on their product description wouldn't cover a refund, only a replacement device which I'd lost all faith in. They just referred me to Amazon to see about a refund. Amazon of course has wonderful customer service and gave me a refund no problem. Bottom line-this device very well may short out a circuit if you attempt to connect it to an iphone 4.

I read reviews that the plug gets stuck in the cigarette lighter it is true. I read reviews that it would stop working after a week or two it is true. Finally, I read reviews that the flexible arm is too loose it is true. A waste of money.

A good mirror that works great, but I wish it had a flip up/down cover on it. Because when you are driving and have your visor down, the reflection of yourself is a little distracting. But I guess I am getting used to it.

The build quality really does stink on this. You need to pry it open with a screwdriver to change batteries, exposing the innards, and for some reason, the light dims after about 2 seconds of being on. Save your money and get something good, everyone. This isn't it.

Very cheap and flimsy all around. I feel like if I touch it, it will fall apart/break. The mirror came detached from the glue that was holding it when my car got hot. Also only one side of the light works and it tends to not stay closed and the batteries fall out.

I also agree that I wish it had a flip cover of some kind. Driving with the visor down but then having a mirror in your face is not ideal.

Wish I would've kept the packaging and everything so I could return it :(

The mirror is small but good enough for my fiance to refresh her lips when necessary. The lights are turned on by a small black switch that is a little loose but its just a mirror after all. Its fine for the price and you can switch it from one side to another depending on who needs it. Or you can just buy two. lol.

I bought the Powerex Stealth charger with the 3 Powerex batteries plus 1 single battery so I would have 4 batteries for my wife's Shure dual mic system she uses at home to sing karaoke. After a little less than a year all four batteries have bit the dust. One at a time the batteries refused to recharge and now all are bad, red lights on the charger flash and no recharging takes place. The batteries probably have less than 50 charge cycles on them, advertisement claims "hundreds" of charge cycles.

I work with audio production and needed rechargeable 9V batteries for my wireless transmitters and receivers. Those batteries didn't work at all with my Seinheiser transmitters and worked only for a short time with my receivers. I just called Maha Energy (the manufacturer) who told me they'd replace the charger and batteries. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know so you don't go through the same hassle I did. I guess I should stick with the renown brands even if they cost more.

I first bought this system for use with wireless microphones that eat 9vdc batteries and do not perform well with the 7.2 volt rechargable nicad cells. The problem has always been that with the same number of cells inside the 9v stack at 1.2 V instead of 1.5V you loose .3 V x 6 cells or 1.8 volts which drops the typical rechargable cell from 9V to 7.2 V.

Transmitters don't work well on 7.2 volts of typical rechargable "9v" batteries. You also tend to want a fresh charge on your battery before use which is where this product comes in.

It adds an extra cell to get you 9.5 volts which is typical of normal batteries.

The con: The batteries are only about 230-250 mah instead of the alkaline 500 mah so you do not get the same runtime. The charger is well made and indicates when the cells are charged.

These are recommended for use when you know that you want a charged battery and don't mind recharging it when done (example using it for a wireless mic). The higher voltage will make the product work well and you won't be wondering if the battery is fully charged or not you will know it is full every time. For people who use alot of 9V batteries, this will pay for itself in a short amount of time.

Really not a lot to say. It's reliable, does what it's supposed to, and continues to work after extended period of ownership. Doesn't overheat, doesn't seem to overcharge. Overall, does as promised.
