Plews 75-030 Auto Shut Off 2 Quart Capacity Plastic Battery Filler

Plews 75-030 Auto Shut Off 2 Quart Capacity Plastic Battery FillerI had a hard time finding this product. I knew what I wanted, but could not find it anywhere locally, People at the automotive stores didn't even know what I was talking about. I have a boat with batteries in 4 different locations which are difficult to access. It's impossible to see how full the battery is without completely removing it. This product works perfectly. I tried it out on my car before going to the boat and it works as advertised. Filling the batteries on the boat is no longer a major exercise with water spilled everywhere. I imagine it would be great for RV's also. I would caution you to be sure to press down all the way when you are filling a cylinder. If you don't press hard enough, it may not automatically stop the flow of the water. This may be why some reviewers think the product is not working properly.

I have an electric car (2 passenger golf cart for use in my retirement community) with 6 batteries. I'm a retired single female with no 'Honey' for my Do List and it's been a real drag filling those batteries up.

This little goodie blows away that 'turkey baster' thing I was using and it automatically stops filling the cell when it's at the right level. If you've got more than one battery to fill this is for you! I love it!

I wanted a product that would allow me to easily refill the batteries in my watercraft. I always had trouble determining when I had the water at the proper level. The Plews battery filler allows me to easily fill batteries and get the levels correct each time. It does what it said it would do.

Great design and very easy to use. I found the shut off to work as designed. If you don't place the

filler flat against the battery hole, it can continue to pour with out the shut off but that isn't the best

way to use this product. It shuts off very well every time if used properly. Love this product. It saved me a lot of time in refilling my golf cart batteries (8).

Want Plews 75-030 Auto Shut Off 2 Quart Capacity Plastic Battery Filler Discount?

We got this to replace one we bought from a golf cart accessory house which fell apart after a couple of years. Plew usually makes pretty good products so I'm hoping this will last longer, though it only gets 4 stars because it doesn't fell as heavy duty as I'd hoped. Time will tell. As others have said, if you have batteries, especially more than one (as in a golf cart) you need this product!

Kensington Mini Battery Extender and Charger for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G (Black)

Kensington Mini Battery Extender and Charger for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G
  • Compatibility: iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G; iPod classic 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod touch; iPhone 1G, 3G, 4
  • Power and charge your iPhone or iPod--extends playtime up to 30 hours of music or 6 hours of video (on iPod nano 3G) or 3 hours of talk (on iPhone)
  • Includes retractable USB charging cable
  • High-capacity rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery pack for increased energy efficiency
  • Small enough to keep connected to your iPhone or iPod

If you have an Apple iPhone 3G, then you probably have the same three complaints that everyone else does:

1) No video camcorder

2) No flash

3) Battery life is poor

Well, the Kensington Mini Battery Extender helps address the third flaw. I also bought an Incase Power Slider because I was wondering how they compared. I had read reviews and heard from people that the Mophie Juice Pack had problems with the rubber case falling off, so I decided to skip that one, although I played around with it a bit before buying the Incase.

All these products perform their basic function admirably they charge your iPhone when you don't have access to an outlet. I can't actually compare which one recharges the most or for the longest, but it's pretty safe to say that they should take care of you through most typical situations (e.g. a transcontinental flight, a busy day on the phone, or a night out with friends after a long day at work). Unless you are Jack Bauer and have a magical cell phone that never runs down, chances are that any of these will keep you in power.

But the fit and finish of these products is the real differentiator (along with price). In reverse order, are my preferences:

3) Mophie Juice Pack: Adds a little bulk to the iPhone, but the rubber covering can cause problems in the long run. But I also didn't like the design it only partially covers the iPhone, leaving the top part exposed. Seemed awkward to me, combine that with the high price, and this wouldn't be my first (or second) choice.

2) Kensington Mini Battery Extender: The design is very awkward. Other owners had talked about keeping it attached while using the phone not only does the connection feel flimsy (making me fear that the dock connector would be damaged), but it also looks unattractive. I'd only use this in an emergency situation or if I wasn't planning on using the phone at the same time. The only reason I have it as my second choice is because the price is right for less than $35 (MSRP is $39), you can have the same power backup as with the Mophie or the Incase. If you are on a budget, then this is a great option. Another possible scenario is if you want to have more than one battery extender/charger you can get three of these for the same price as one of the others.

1) Incase Power Slider: By far, the Power Slider had the best design. The two-part design completely encases the iPhone, increasing the dimensions only slightly. It's a little wider, a little longer, a little thicker, and a little heavier. But it's a very natural look, and most people wouldn't even realize it's also a battery pack. It's pretty easy to put on and take off, and feels like a second skin in the end without impeding the camera. But it is harder to access buttons, so I don't plan on using this on a daily basis only when I travel.

SUMMARY: Like I said, any of these will do the basic job, but the Kensington will do it cheaper and the Incase will do it in style.

Wanted to confirm that this works with Iphone 3g just fine. You can keep using your Iphone and listening to music etc while this is attached (it puts it into charging mode like plugging it into a wall outlet). Hoping to use this for my plane travel this week will report on battery life.

Also, wanted to say that this seems to charge fine with my Belkin Iphone charger (the set where you get wall and car charger with usb plug ins on both) it's really nice because the wall charger has two usb outlets so you can charge both the battery and Iphone at the same time without a laptop etc.

I tested this charger on my iPhone(first iphone version when they just came out.)

I drained my iphone down to 10% warning and plugged in a fully-charger Kensington Battery. It took about 70 minutes until the charger's juice was gone and it powered my iPhone to about 50%. Surely enough, 3 hours later of constant texting, my iphone gave me the 10% business.

The Good:

Truly Portable. Dimensions are 2.5 x 2 x 0.5 inches. (I'm not sure why at the time of this review, it shows dimensions as 5.2 x 6 x 1.5 units. I pondered why this was the case, and it turns out that these dimentions are in centimeters.) Dimensions blend in well with your iPhone: it doesn't stick out, but just extends the lenght of your iphone by 2 inches.

Charge and use your phone at same time: No need to wait til the power transfers.

Stylish: Yes, I said "stylish." Every time I plug this in, the other iPhone users turn their heads and wonder what my little attachment does. The brightly-lit blue energy bar really stands out and lets you charge in style.

Tiny charging retractible USB cable: While its 4 inches in closed position, its retractible up to 2 feet at full lenght. Its fully compatible with iphone's usb plug adapter, so you can charge your battery on the plug OR using computer's USB slot.

The Bad:

For emergencies only. It would be nice if this portable charger had more juice capacity than 50% of the iPhone's battery. Because of this, I don't carry it as much and only take it with me for emergency purposes. Its a good thing to keep in your car's glove compartment or at home for those blackouts.

Bottom Line: Perfect for emergencies, but will leave you wishing for more juice in the long run.

With my morning 30 minute conference calls, I barely get by each day without needing to recharge my iPhone.

What drew me to this was the all in one style design. No cables or mess to deal with. Here's the low down:

Cons:

Simultaneous charging (connected to my Macbook Pro) took a little longer than preferred, but I guess it was because my iPhone was completely dead.

Pros:

Tiny battery pack was able to charge my iPhone to about 65% from dead which was impressive in a relatively short period of time

Battery indicator was extremely helpful

Small enough to keep in my pocket without the weight and bulk

The smartest thing about this battery pack is that it leaves about a 1.5mm gap on the bottom of the iPhone so the microphone isn't blocked. Genius.

Oh yeah, it comes with a plastic cap to protect the connector if you toss it in your work bag or something.

Just got this battery from amazon today. It works great.

To test it out on my new 3G iPhone, I drained the phone's battery completely. The external battery was not charged out of the box so I fully charged the external battery through my computer, which took about 3 hours. Then I attached the charged external battery to the iPhone. I kept the iPhone off while it was being charged by the external battery. The external battery charged my iPhone back to 80% battery life. The charge took about 1 hour.

Also, I have a case on the iPhone and did not encounter any issues with charging the phone with the external battery. The case did not have to come off!

Excellent product. I'll use this just about daily at work/home.

Permatex 80370 Battery Protector and Sealer, 5 oz. net Aerosol Can

Permatex 80370 Battery Protector and Sealer, 5 oz. net Aerosol CanI've used this Permatex product for many years and with a good coating it completely prevents corrosion on the battery terminals (use Permatex 80369 Battery Cleaner first if you already have corrosion link below). Even if you don't consider yourself a 'do it your selfer', this is very easy to apply and is a must have. It will prevent battery cable damage and save you from getting stranded because of poor cable connectivity caused by corrosion.

Permatex 80369 Battery Cleaner 6 oz aerosol can, 5.75 oz net wt

I used it on a rusty battery terminals after cleaning them off. It works fine at preventing rust. The only thing is that the bottle is relatively small and that I think rust can be prevented using any grease no need for special "battery grease".

Buy Permatex 80370 Battery Protector and Sealer, 5 oz. net Aerosol Can Now

This stuff is impossible to find at local auto parts stores. Both walmart and auto parts stores carry a different brand, which leaves the red coating and is in a much smaller bottle. However, i've come to realize over the years that Permatex products are good-to-go, top-notch products. From brake cleaner to this stuff, you can't go wrong with Permatex. This product goes on purple, and one can immediately tell the difference in material quality over the other brands. Does a phenominal job at preventing corrossion on battery terminals. Good stuff.

Corrosion was eating away at the positive terminal of my 2010 Nissan Titan to the point where I had to replace the terminal connector itself. I cleaned it several times with various advertised products, only to have it return. This was the only product that kept it from coming back. Kind of seems like a spray paint. I also tried vaseline which didn't work at all to prevent the corrosion.

Want Permatex 80370 Battery Protector and Sealer, 5 oz. net Aerosol Can Discount?

Foul smelling. Messy. It probably protects okay, but you'd better mask off all adjacent areas before spraying. Otherwise you'll have nasty purple gunk everywhere you don't want it. It is difficult to spray just the right amount in only the area you intend it to go. I expected it to dry or set up, but it's pretty runny and I don't think it ever sets up. Maybe that's what it's designed to do, but I had hoped for something less messy than petroleum jelly or grease products, but this isn't it.

When I saw the price I thought this was worth a shot. The price is well below MSRP. The reason I wanted this unit was it combined iPod control through the usb and Sirius. I listen very little to CD (surprise!) but wanted the option just in case. I really didn't have any major issues but I would like to have seen a nicer display with more info displayed. What I didn't know but the installer told me was that it could be connected to my steering wheel volume and station controls. I did this and am very happy. Very good stereo.

Buy Clarion CZ301 CD/MP3/WMA/AAC Receiver with USB Port Now

Pros:

Amazing sounding. Tons of personalized EQ options, so many that I don't know what to do with. CD player, radio, USB connection for ipods or even just a flash drive, etc. Amazing. My car speakers are honestly pretty poor (and tend to crackle when pushed a little too hard) but even so, music sounds beautiful coming out of this thing. Has a real "surround sound" feel to it.

Cons:

Error. Error. Error. I am worried what this thing is doing to my ipod. There has not been one car drive where we haven't had an error message when connecting my ipod. The Clarion also causes my ipod to constantly reset itself. Thankfully it hasn't crashed I have not lost songs. But it worries me. It can be very very frustrating listening to your favorite song and then all of a sudden SILENCE, because the ipod is now inexplicably resetting itself.

Part of me loves the clarion and I'd be lying if I said I haven't gotten a ton of use out of it and never drive anywhere without turning it on. But I'm not sure if people may want to shop around for something a bit more reliable when it comes to the USB connection. Maybe I got a defective one? I have no clue. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had this issue and if they managed to fix it? (It is not my ipod, which works perfectly fine by itself when not hooked up to the Clarion.)

Painless 40102

Painless 40102This kit was a pain in the a--. Hooking up to the starter solinoid was the worst pain. I had to end up ordering custom made battery cables. One was 8 feet long running from the starter to the switching cylinder. Getting to the starter was almost impossible without tearing up my hand. So far everything seems to work ok but like I said it was a pain not painless.

Whistler Pro-1200W 1,200 Watt Power Inverter

Whistler Pro-1200W 1,200 Watt Power InverterJust a quick update I have had this inverter in my semi for a year now and it is still going strong, it gets near daily use and has survived having a 700 watt microwave short out and catch fire, all it did was trip the inverters fault protection, a quick reset and it was fine I now have a RV style 600 watt microwave that it powers flawlessly.

I bought this to replace a powerdrive 1500 watt inverter that died after about a month, this one has lasted over 3 months so far and I use it almost daily to run a laptop, document scanner, 700 watt microwave plus several chargers for cell phones, mp3 players, etc. Average draw with the laptop, scanner and microwave going simultaneously is 900 watts, at that load the fan doesn't even kick on which is nice because one of the annoying features the powerdrive was its constantly running (very loud) fans.

I have ran it at @1300 watts output for a minute or so when I had to plug in a high speed drill, it took this abuse without so much as getting warm.

If you are looking for a affordable, reliable ac power supply for a semi or other large truck I cannot recommend this one highly enough, just be sure to buy a wiring kit like the Cobra 4-AWG Heavy-Duty AC Power Inverter Cable Kit sold here at amazon, and a ANL Fuse Holder with a 150 amp ANL fuse, because the inverter comes with no wires at all.

EDIT:

Thought I should mention, when mounting this in your truck it MUST be direct wired to the batteries, if you try and run it through the bus you run the risk of overloading it and causing serious damage to your semis' electronics. Also the shorter the cables from your battery to the inverter are the lower the power drop will be (simply put shorter cables equals more wattage you can safely use)

One last thing, if you plan on using this in a non commercial vehicle (IE a regular car or truck) check with a mechanic to make sure your alternator/battery combo can handle this, some cars have just enough power to run their own internal systems and adding this on could overload it and do damage.

While not perfect, this product saved us from the Halloween storm this year. We were without power for 4 days and this inverter provided enough juice to power our refrigerator, the boiler (so that the house didn't get so cold as it was in the 20s some nights), a light, and I even toasted on a small toaster (I disconnected everything else to do this). We tried the microwave and it worked a few times, but then started tripping every time (I am not sure if it was the inverter or the cables we got as one of the terminal was poorly connected and it didn't always have a great connection). We ran it 2-3 hours at a time connected to our car battery with the car running. It seemed to trip from time to time for no reason (usually it had been running the boiler and frig for a few minutes) even though it was only running at 300-400 Watts; I am not sure if it was the car alternator that tripped it by having a voltage spike on the DC side or what, but we had to go reset it about 1-2 times per hour.

Still, this product is a great value at 71 bucks we paid for a 1200 Watt inverter and more than paid for itself by saving our food in the frig/freezer plus allowed us to avoid having to go to a hotel. If I had it to do over again, I might consider something slightly larger (1500-1600 Watts) and perhaps even a true sine wave inverter (I realize that a modified sine wave 1500 would be up to twice the price I paid or 6 times for a 1500 Watt true sine wave inverter), but it could be worth it as then I could charge my UPS to run my computers as well (I don't dare do that on a modified sine wave inverter because of all the warning from Whistler that the UPS batteries could overheat and damage it, or to run as my computers either for the same reason), and I could also run my microwave.

I would recommend this for someone that can't afford a larger one or a pure sine wave inverter. I would not go much larger because we are running from the car because if you are consistently drawing over 1000 Watts (about 100 amps on the DC side) and your car alternator does not have more capacity (most cars have under 100 amp capacity in their alternators) you will wreck the battery and, worse, even the alternator. We lucked out that our minivan has a 130 amp alternator so I could run it for extended periods without being worried that I was destroying the battery or the alternator.

Buy Whistler Pro-1200W 1,200 Watt Power Inverter Now

I am powering some lights and the refrigerator (3.5 amps) through a transfer switch in my house. There are two issues. The first is that this inverter creates a hum in my main circuit panel in the house. I tried a Wagan Elite Pure Sine wave inverter and it did not do this, so perhaps its because the Whistler is a mod sine wave? The other issue is that the lights flicker like crazy in the house when the car is running, if I turn off the car the lights are great, start the car and the lights pulse and drive us crazy. I am not sure why this is happening. I called Whistler and they could not figure it out either; they even asked their engineer and he had no idea. As such this one is going back.

Read Best Reviews of Whistler Pro-1200W 1,200 Watt Power Inverter Here

I had this inverter professionally installed by our shop as required because it was going into a company vehicle (semi Tractor). They install a breaker switch at the batteries. I also ordered and had installed the Cobra Inverter 4 gauge cables to run the 8 ft. distance where the unit was to be located. This unit was purchased to operate a mini fridge (Black & Decker) 1.7 cu. ft. and a 700 to 900 watt microwave. The fridge is rated at 120v and operates at maximum 300 watts at start up. It normally operates at 30-50 watts and at start up, I'm only seeing a 135 watt surge. The 1st time I plugged in the fridge the inverter fried. Amazon shipped me another one over night. I connected this one, plugged in the fridge and the unit could not handle the small load (it beeped and the fridge was vibrating) so I returned this unit as well, went to Flying J and purchased a Power Drive 1500 watt on sale for $139.99. This inverter works perfectly with no issues. I contacted the Whistler Corp. customer service regarding the first unit and was advised to return it because it was bad. These inverters are not built very well and are not reliable. Stick with the tried and true quality brands. Granted all our stuff is now made in China, but quality control and proper specs make all the difference in the world.

Schumacher XP750C Instant Portable Power Source

Schumacher XP750C Instant Portable Power SourceI bought this jumper battery because my car was stuck in the garage, and I couldn' jump it with another car.

Even though it said to charge it for 36 hours after purchase, I used it anyway right out of the box, and it started my car twice.

I like the fact that you just leave this thing plugged in all the time and it knows how to keep the charge on the unit, and, as it claims, "intelligently charge" as the label said the algorithm is smart enough not to overcharge.

The LED flashlight isn't very powerful, but guess what, in a pinch this light would probably last for days if not weeks on that huge battery.

The compressor was a real bonus. I used it right away. It is very convenient to check your tires, sine the unit is not tethered to an electrical outlet. It took about a minute and a half for my tire to go from 25 lbs to 35 lbs. And after I did 5 tires, it quit on me and the tubing got hot. I read the instructions and noticed that compressing sucks a lot of power from the battery, and that you shouldn't use the compressor for more than 10 minutes at a time. So I had to wait half an hour for the unit to cool off, and then pumped the other 3 tires on my other car. This thing makes it VERY convenient to pump/check your tires. The built in pressure gauge needs to be angled upwards a little bit to be more user friendly, bc I had to keep tilting the unit to be able to see the pressure value while it was sitting on the ground. The compressor is something I'll be using quite a bit. The jump start feature is nice for emergencies and road trips, and the 12V cigarrete socket and USB socket means this thing can be used as a general purpose battery. It's the biggest battery I have in the house, so it's nice to have it.

I like the nice compact size without comprising the proformance. The air compressor works very

well for about 10mins at a shot(just like the manual will tell you). Also nice is the fact that

using the air compressor does not deplete the battery. Still plenty of juice for a jump! Great

product for the price!!

It is a bit heavy, but I don't mind.

With all the features is a great addition to my tool set.

During the first few day a plastic cleat (to hold the air hose) broke. I wrote to Schumacher and they sent me new ones with no fuss, so I can say that their support is good so far.

And I really like to have a portable power source!!

We carry this along with a chainsaw whenever we go to the cabin. Had to use it recently when our snowmobile battery went belly up. I came across this alarm on ebay for about $90 and did some research before pruchasing it. A lot of people said the instructions were hard to understand, but since I was not installing it myself that did not concern me (had a professional install it for me on my GSX1300R). All the reviews for it was good so I went ahead and got it. The only problem I have with the alarm is that there is no way to turn it off for bike maintenance. Basically, you have to leave the bike on if you want to do anything to the bike which of course will eventually drain the battery. Otherwise the alarm will keep going off with the proximity sensor installed. I might just unhook the sensor, but then I will be sorry if someone was able to steal my bike, LOL. Other than that I think this is a good product, also the remote start is really cool but not for people that have a habit of leaving their bikes in first gear (the bike must be in neutral for remote start).

Ok as of July 10, 2012 after fully reading the instruction manual I found out the proximity sensor can be turned off from the remote controls. I turned it off on both remotes and was able to work on the bike without the alarm going off. So now I have nothing to complain about so far and will change my rating to 5 stars.

The instruction for installation are lacking at best. Got the alarm hooked up but couldn't get the auto start or ignition block hooked up. I had it installed by a professional who said the instructions were the worst he'd seen. You have to guess at the settings on the remote because once again, the instructions aren't clear. Would recommend a more user friendly alarm system.

great alarm, especially for the price.

pros:

-cheap

-loud

-2 way pager

-perimeter sensor

-remote start (useless for me but oh so cool)

cons:

-hard to install as there is no documentation, just a wire diagram, i spent 2 days searching all the forums to figure it out and still there was some guessing involved in the install

-no factory harness option so you need to splice and cut some wires

-could be thinner and alarm speaker smaller

all in all i am very happy with this unit and would buy again

I purchased this item in November of 2012. It took me 3 months just to find a shop who would be willing to install it because of the horrible specs included. After install one of the controllers would not work. I contacted the seller, Speed Shop, who sent another controller. I realized about a month later that the proximity sensor did nothing at all. The bike had to actually be shaken to alarm. I contacted the seller about replacing the proximity sensor and was instructed to return the old one which I did. Speed Shop received my old proximity sensor and actually repackaged it and sent it back to me. The exact same proximity sensor, with the same tape and dust marks that I had sent. When I contacted Speed Shop again, I spoke with Dan who told me that it was not possible to have received the same one back. I explained the tape and dust marks from the sensor being installed on my bike and he refused to believe me that this occured, then instructed me to make a video of the problem before they would help me further. I reinstalled the proximity sensor, made the video, sent the video (all of this taking even more time) and never received a response. After several more contacts I was instructed to send the proximity sensor back again and told by Chip or Dan (by phone) that I should have previously stated that I wanted the sensor replaced when I sent it in (what?!). Now thinking that we have an understanding and everything else was just a miscommunication I sent the proximity sensor again (shipping paid by me, twice now). No contact from seller, Speed Shop, so I tried reaching them again to see if they received the proximity sensor (again) and when I could expect to receive a new one. This time I was told that in order to receive a new sensor, I would need to pay $8 in shipping & handling charges. I called and spoke with Chip or Dan by phone, and was told the same thing, except now it was $10 in S&H apparently just because I had called the charge was being increased. I paid by phone with my credit card and waited for the new sensor. I called and spoke to Chip or Dan and was told that they could not give me a tracking number because they were on the wrong computer and would call me back with that. I never received a call and called again a week later, this time I was told that the Amazon order # did not exist. I was speaking with Chip who became very aggressive, rude, and beligerant. He talked over me, ignored everything I was saying and refused to help me at all then to top it off he hung up on me. My wife, attempging to mediate the situation, called back and reached Chip (although he refused to acknowledge who he was or provide a name). While talking with Chip my wife remained very calm, even though Chip was quite rude. He would not answer her questions and repeatedly asked, "What is it that you are calling the warehouse for?" My wife repeatedly said that she was calling about an Amazon order and repeatedly asked if he was Chip or what his name was. The fella became very aggressive with her and then hung up again. She, being persistant, called back, Chip answered, and as soon as my wife spoke he placed her on hold. This happened 4 times! Finally a different fella answered the phone as "Shift Global" and said his name was Dan (same guy I previously spoke with and who took my credit card payment by phone for the S&H). Dan was much more receptive, but refused to acknowledge the behavior of the "Chip" fella, although the other fella could be heard being obscene in the background. Dan was able to find the order with no problem, then requested proof that the S&H had been paid for. I had the exact month and day but nothing more. He placed me on hold and came back to say the item had been shipped out, provided a tracking number, but then provided the wrong shipping address and said that this is what was provided by Amazon.

The entire ordeal was absolutely awful from start to finish. I tracked down the package myself and now that I have the proximity sensor, I will be reinstalling to see if it works but seriously have my doubts! The product is truly not worth the money and the seller should be banned from Amazon all together.

I had this system installed on my BMW. The system was easy to install. It has good sensitivity. Sensitivity in the tilt sensor changes with temperature. In cold weather it is much more sensitive to small vibrations.

Also, just FYI. Use your own batteries. The once which came with the set were bad and it took us about 30 minutes to figure out.

BlueAnt S3 Voice Controlled Car Speakerphone (Black)[Retail Packaging]

BlueAnt S3 Voice Controlled Car Speakerphone[Retail Packaging]A blue ant, according to the Wikipedia entry, is not a blue ant at all. It is a solitary wasp sometimes known as a flower wasp and is native to parts of Australia. BlueAnt Wireless on the other hand, is a wireless communications company specializing in high-quality Bluetooth mobile devices and is also native to Australia. The BlueAnt S3 Compact Car Speakerphone is BlueAnt's latest Bluetooth speakerphone. The S3's big brother, the S4, is widely considered to be the best and most advanced Bluetooth speakerphone on the market today. To make sure the S4 didn't grow up an only child, BlueAnt gave birth to the S3 Compact.

PROS:

Easy pairing and simple to use

Good, loud sound with A2DP audio support

Physical On/Off switch

Answer/Ignore calls by voice

Great battery life

Multipoint support

Good build quality w/2 year warranty

CONS:

Music sounds just OK

CONTENTS, BUILD QUALITY, & DESIGN

The S3 package includes a car charger with a USB port, a micro USB cable, 1 small and 1 large visor clip and a manual.

Upon opening the package, the first thing I noticed was how solid the S3 Compact felt in my hands. There were no visible open seams in the plastic and it felt very durable. I went over the the entire unit with my hands and put pressure on it to see if any part of the S3 would flex but couldn't find any.

The S3 unit itself only has 1 physical buttonthe on/off switch, which I love. I'm learning to dislike Bluetooth devices that require you to hold a button down to turn it on and off. A switch is quicker and more convenient. The other functions of the S3 are controlled via it's front touch-sensitive control panel, which include a multifunction button and volume controls.

USAGE

I once helped someone set up an integrated Bluetooth system in their Acura and it was hard to set up and not very intuitive to use. Setup and usage of the S3 was a different experience. When I turned the S3 on for the first time, I was asked to confirm the language by pressing the multifunction button. I accidentally selected Australian English and had a male voice with an Australian accent walk me through the rest of the pairing process. Luckily, I was able to change the language later after a reset. The S3 then automatically entered pairing mode and the male voice instructed me through the pairing process. It was very simple and I didn't even need to enter a code. It then transferred my phonebook. On my Droid X, I got a prompt to confirm whether I wanted to transfer the phonebook. After I confirmed the transfer, it completed in just a few seconds. I have less than 100 contacts but the S3 can store up to 2,000 contacts, per phone. The benefit of transferring the phonebook is that the S3 will announce the name of the caller if they exist in your phonebook.

Making calls by voice worked reasonably well but the best part was being able to answer and ignore calls by voice. I was able to answer calls by just saying, "Answer" or ignore them by saying "Ignore." These voice commands are really what help distinguish the S3 from other speakerphones that require you to physically touch a button to answer or ignore calls.

The touch buttons on the S3's control panel were responsive and changing the volume of the speaker was simple enough-just swipe your finger from the "-" to the "+" to increase the volume or the other way to decrease it.

The S3 also has a sensor to detect vibrations from your car door so that if left on, it will try to reconnect to your phone when you return. Since I have children in car seats, they are the first ones to enter the car. While buckling them in, I could hear the S3 blabbing about something but couldn't quite make out what it was saying. Once I entered the car myself, I could see that the S3 and my phone had established a connection. I'm guessing that once the S3 disconnects from your phone, it goes into a power saving mode and when the sensor detects that you've opened the car door, it takes it out of power saving mode to reconnect. I'll likely just turn the S3 on and off as needed, but it might be a very useful feature for those who would prefer to just leave it on for most of the day.

SOUND QUALITY

I found the sound quality to be good on both ends. The speaker got plenty loud enough to hear at highway speeds and the A2DP support allowed me to listen to music from my phone and hear GPS instructions as well. Music didn't sound great, but it was an improvement over my phone's speaker.

On the other end, people said that they could hear my clearly, though one person said that they could hear a slight echo. When I tested the noise cancellation, people on the other end said that they could hear some background noise, but my voice could still be heard over the noise. I rolled my driver's side window down at about 35MPH and was told that they noticed more background noise but that my voice was still clear.

CHARGING & BATTERY LIFE

Since the S3 charges via a micro USB port, I was able to use my Motorola Droid X chargers to charge it up. It only took a few hours to completely charge it and is rated at 20 hours of talk time and an incredible 600 hours of standby; that's over 3 weeks! I can't think of a headset that comes remotely close to those battery times.

CONCLUSION

The BlueAnt S3 Compact is a very good Bluetooth speakerphone. It is simple to install and simple to use. Other than an FM transmitter, I can't think of another premium feature that the S3 lacks. The feature I like most is the ability to answer and ignore calls by using my voice. In lieu of an integrated OEM phone system, the S3 Compact might just be the next best thing. Maybe even better.

* Review sample courtesy of BlueAnt Wireless

First the good: It is well made, pairs easily and sounds good, just an occasional echo. They don't advertise it, but it also has voice dialing if your phone supports it.

Now the Bad: It has a very strong signal, so stays connected easily for 50 feet or so even through walls and doors. Therefore when you park in front of a store or restaurant, or especially at home in the garage, if your cellphone rings, the S3 answers it IN THE CAR!. Your phone rings, but it's just a dead line. They brag about a "vibration sensor" that re-pairs your phone when you close the car door, but you will never use it because whenever you get within 30 feet of the car, it will re-pair long before you even get close to the car. And again, when your phone rings, you can't use it, because the S3 answers in the car!

The final nail in it's coffin for me is that when you go out of range and later get back in the car, now the voice dialing (if your phone has that capability) does not work!!! It re-pairs fine, but no voice dialing. We tried this on two separate cellphones, a Nokia and Samsung with identical results.

BlueAnt knows about this problem and has a work-around: turn it off every time you get out of the car and back on every time you get in. Sounds easy enough, maybe, but the on-off switch is fairly small and VERY STIFF, requiring some precise thumbnail maneuvering. Another fix is to re-boot your cellphone every time you leave and then come back in range. And you have to remember to do this EACH TIME you enter or leave the car. I don't know about you, but that is waaaay too much hassle for me. My wife refuses to even fool with it.

In summary, if you never use voice dialing AND are always 50' away from the car when you get out (remember the garage or parking space at home) it's fine. Otherwise, at least for two of us, it's more trouble than it's worth.

Most people do not even realize that I am on a speaker phone and I drive a non-insulated service van. The voice command responds well and the on/off switch is a great idea over the last version. Great speaker volume and range. The only drawback is the double touch to hang up does not always work for me. It could be my timing.

I got this for my step mom for Christmas and after opening it we got it set up in just a few minutes. It easily recognized her phone and paired. It synced her phonebook in a few minutes and was ready to go. The controls are easy and I like that there is a switch for on and off instead of just a button. I am sure that there are other products which will make the speakerphone work with the fm radio, but for someone who just does regular calling and may even want to have the radio on in the background this product is great. You can't find one cheaper with such a good quality anywhere (believe me I looked).

-UPDATED 10/3-

8 months later this bluetooth has stopped working... callers can not hear your voice on the other end and you can not hear them. The phone's bluetooth functions all still work with other products so we know it is not the phone. Too bad because she really liked it while it worked.

In Trinidad & Tobago, it is against the law to use your mobile phone while driving. After very nearly getting caught with my mobile phone in my hand by a motorcycle police officer in rush-hour traffic, I got this as soon as I got home.

When doing the very easy initial pairing process, Stick with the American english. I could not deal with the English woman's or the Australian guy's voice.

I a very pleased with it to date. Paired with my Nokia E71, I only have to tap the center of the touch area to activate voce dialing (though my Nokia voice dialing feature at time is a bit frustrating when it doesn't find the contact). Swipe to the left or right to raise/lower volume and when the Blue ant spells out the number of a caller, I simply say "Answer" and the call connects.

Voice quality is very good. Most people did not know I was on speakerphone. I am not distracted by the speaker phone and my driving style has not changed.

My cons with It so far:

Of course, you have no privacy when you have passengers in your car. This is not too big an issue as I am usually the ony person in my car when driving.

spells out the number instead of saying the caller's name (but my phone itself does). I will concede that it is due to the phone. With my next phone purchase (hopefully an Android) I will confirm.

remembering to turn it off when exiting the car. Too many times, I leave the car and go out of range of it and then take a call on my mobile and mid-conversation the phone suddenly goes 'dead', ony for me to realise that the phone reconnected to the speaker phone when I re-enter the bluetooth range. I usually have to hastiy set phone to handset before the other party hangs up, assuming the call dropped.

I have found the battery life is not as long as I'd like, at least not the 10 days advertised. Maybe it is because I tend to have long phone conversatons while driving.

the micro USB charger cable is just too short. I have to unhook it from my vizor to charge it in the car.

Overall, this has been a very good investment for my phone and car. Buy it!

UPDATE: OCTOBER 2012

It is now indeed almost a year later and I did indeed get an Anrdoid phone (Galaxy Y Pro, then Galaxy S II) The Y Pro did not support voice dialing while the S II does. The only compliant now is the the voice dialing is much slower, again due to the phone needing the internet to process my voice.

Syncing contacts is a breeze.

It has worked beautifully in this time. I do have a bit of trouble remembering to turn on the speakerphone (or the phone's bluetooth or both) when I get into me car, and that can cause a scramble to answer the phone if I get a call while driving. At least I am using Arkon SM410 Universal Windshield with Dashboard and Vent Mount for Smartphones and PDAs Mount Bulk Packaging Black to make things easier.

It is a bit iffy when you have two phones connected at the same time. Be sure the phone you use for voice dialing is paired first.

I'll also point out that there is a BlueAnt app for Android phones that works with this speaker phone. Will try it out and update.

But I still recommend this device.

Seidio Innotraveler Car Kit for HTC EVO 4G - Black - Retail Packaging

Seidio Innotraveler Car Kit for HTC EVO 4G - Black - Retail PackagingI have been looking for decent accessories for my EVO 4G since I purchased it at Radio Shack, they had a fairly ok range of standard accessories but nothing like this Seidio car kit.

This is a quality product, it has a strong suction cup and arm that sticks to either the windscreen or the supplied self adhesive plastic disc for mounting to other surfaces like a dashboard, The fit and finish are as good if not better than original equipment, the phone holder comes with an insert that allows it to be used with a stock phone and case, however if you remove the insert it make more room for those sensible people who have opted to put function over form and purchased the extended life battery (3500 mA) and cover/protective case from Seidio as I have, this allows the phone to be slid in place with a gentle push and accommodate perfectly the larger dimensions of the phone.

Once inserted the phone is charged via the supplied car charger lead, this only fits the mount and will not power the phone directly as it uses a different micro USB connector, but then why would you want to do that when you have a solid and secure place to place the phone and charge it at the same time? anyway once inserted it charges the phone and the dashboard software application on the EVO switches on (This can be deactivated in the settings) it also asks you if you want to connect to a specific Bluetooth device, once you have answered yes or no the dashboard allows you to use the phone well in the cradle, in fact if you rotate the mount on the ball joint through 90 degrees with the phone inserted, you would be hard pushed when in the Google Navigation application to distinguish this from a fully fledged SatNav due to the size of the display and the quality look and feel of the mount, which blends well with the phone case's soft rubber coating which is the same that is used on the mount.

I have used my one for about 3 weeks so far and it has been great, not problems with it moving or falling off, no problems with the fit or connections.. it is a solid product and I would recommend this purchase to anyone with an EVO 4G and a car/boat.

**** UPDATE ****

I was so impressed with the EVO 4G and this car kit I purchased the same for my wife... how much of an endorsement is that?

Andrew McJannett-Smith

This is byfar the best car kit for the HTC EVO. I tried a few cheap general purpose car kits and they were all garbage. I even tried the HTC official one but it has some major draw backs also. You need to remove the case and the little riged arm was so short I could not put the phone in portrate mode without it hitting my windshield. This one is great, my phone automatically goes into nav mode as soon as I place it in the cradle and I can use it in portrait or landscape mode with no problems. It even comes with the charging cable which the HTC model does not. Great job Seidio.

Buy Seidio Innotraveler Car Kit for HTC EVO 4G - Black - Retail Packaging Now

I tried two of the Evo docks from Sprint, and found the USB connector too finicky and difficult to mount the phone onto. This unit is fairly well designed, but due to the multiple pieces making up the whole, it picks up a LOT of vibration from my vehicle--something I didn't experience with the Sprint dock. Also, the power cord sticking out the side is awkward when you rotate the dock counterclockwise (something else done better with the Sprint dock). However, the Evo slides right into this dock and fits the USB connector easily and every time.

It would probably have less vibration if I wanted to apply a drop or two of superglue or mounted it in a different location. However, that power connector is just too poorly placed, and I don't want to lock the unit into a restrictive position with glue.

Although it comes with a power adapter, I find it odd that the dock uses mini-USB for power, even though the phone is micro-USB. This means you can't use the same power adapter if you're not using the dock--at least not without another cable or adapter.

Not a good fit for me, but I think this dock will work for many people.

It works for its intended purpose. Build quality is good, and don't worry about the suction cup, it is rock steady. I actually had trouble removing the suction cup after detaching it the first couple of times I used it! Use of an adapter to fit a "naked" EVO worried me, but it hasn't created any problems, and I appreciate the option to add some Seidio cases in the future without losing use of my car mount.

In use, the EVO is held in a steady way, though screen glare is still a problem (this isn't the mount's fault, just a fact of life). I find it very usable for navigation.

My biggest gripe on the mount is that the included car charger isn't a very powerful charger. It barely recharges the EVO with Bluetooth and GPS turned off. Running GPS, Bluetooth, and 3G discharges the battery at a steady rate even with the charger plugged in. I'm not pleased that the charger uses a mini-USB (rather than micro-USB) to hook into the car mount, but I haven't detatched it yet, and probably never will. It does inhibit using the charger for other devices, unfortunately. If I were more pleased with the charger, I'd give this five stars.

Want Seidio Innotraveler Car Kit for HTC EVO 4G - Black - Retail Packaging Discount?

This is a great car kit and fits the Evo perfectly. Its a little bulky, but not bad. One thing you will need to do immediately upon receiving is drill a small hole on the front where the mic meets the case on the interior. Use a small, newer bit so it cuts cleanly and you will be 100% satisfied with this kit. the suction cup is uber strong. It would also be nice if they sent along the small microUSB to USB adapter that one needs for the extra power port.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 3 SCH-I535 compatible Universal Car Mount Lighter Socket Dock with USB and Charging Plugalthough i have only been using this product for a few days, i already see how much functionality it provides. i am quite pleased with it and will likely purchase one for my wife's car. the only thing that would make this purchase better would be if it was fulfilled as Amazon Prime.

This is not a Verizon product as the description led me to believe it is a one size fits all of very poor quality. I do not recommend this product.
