Cobra CPI1000 1000W 12V DC to 120V AC Power Inverter with USB Port

Cobra CPI1000 1000W 12V DC to 120V AC Power Inverter with USB Port
  • 1000 watts continuous power with 2000 watts peak power
  • 5 volt USB output for running and charging your electronic devices
  • Direct-to-battery cables included
  • 2 AC outlets
  • Heavy duty construction capable of handling multiple loads

I bought this inverter to run my home fridge during power outages. It works great. No problems starting and running the compressor. It even handled a 1/2" drill motor easily.

I picked this one for it's power and voltage display. It allows me to estimate the battery draw so I have an idea how long it will last. I also liked the USB power source, although I have not used that yet.

It does come with nice HEAVY power leads (with clips), although they are very short. Good enough to set right next to a battery and clamp on.

So far, no complaints or problems.

I have these in all 4 of my company's vans to run heavy duty continuous use machines. My old inverters would pop and I would have to turn them off and back on. If these surge it resets itself within less than a second and keeps on truckin. I had to install a solenoid for them to work correctly (my mechanic advised me to do that, I dont know the technicalities) because without the solenoid it wasn't drawing enough power. I have been very impressed with the quality and price of these and will continue to buy them.

Excellent product, I am using it to run my Directtv, automatic dish, TV, and much more. I am sure I am only using a small amount of its capabilities but works great.

Want Cobra CPI1000 1000W 12V DC to 120V AC Power Inverter with USB Port Discount?

My first review of this product was not a kind one. I could not use a toaster or coffee pot with this device and chastised cobra for over stating the wattage capabilities. After many hours of work and upgrading to another bigger one with the same results, I wanted to rewrite my review. If you take this inverter or the bigger one, and put it right at the battery with the supplied clamps, it WILL deliver a strong output and make a pot of coffee with a normal toaster. Keep in mind a toaster and a coffee pot are pretty much a direct-short to a power supply since they are heating elements. There is no more difficult task for an inverter to do! Vacuum cleaners, all those things are easy compared to heating element type appliances. Anyway, back to installation. If you have the device RIGHT at the battery it will deliver as promised since there is a short wire and no voltage loss.

BUT when I installed it under the seat of my RV with a top of the line amp install kit about 12 feet away, it did NOT deliver. It would beep and shut down. Even with the 100% copper wire, oxygen free stuff I used, it had voltage drop to make the inverter go below the magic level that makes it freak out. In my installation, I could NOT mount the inverter at the battery--there was not enough room. So long story short I put a second battery under the seat of the RV next to the inverter/ this battery only drives the inverter. Problem solved. works like a charm, but I would invest in the bigger one-if you can afford it. The voltage drop in the wire is very real issue. I am in the car electronics business and sell such things and it even amazed me and my co workers .

The bad thing to keep in mind, is that all of these converters have a cooling fan. You will hear this loud whirring noise while it runs. The fan has two speeds. If your car is running and it gets enough voltage the fan goes at low speed. BUT if your car is not running the fan is in high speed. Keep this in mind, you WILL hear this and it may make watching TV annoying. Install the inverter accordingly.

You do get what you pay for in inverters. If you were to step up to the more expensive brands of inverters that boast "sine wave" and "noise filtering" You will pay $400 or more and I bet they have less issue with voltage drop. But hey, you have to live within your budget.

Tried several others before this one. main reason for purchase was for a PS3. Once I bought this one the PS3 worked... One caution though. If you use the old PS3 (fat one game play 200watts) the power required will or might give you feed back through the speakers in the form of a hiss. I purchased the newer skinner PS3(only 100 watts) and it was quite. Also I have seen several people use the 800 watt one and there are small lines of distortion from the alternator. This has an extra grounding terminal for chassis ground(below large ground) that seems to clear up this problem... Great product

Powerline By Original Power 0900-79 12-Volt DC Dual Socket Splitter with USB Charging Port

Powerline By Original Power 0900-79 12-Volt DC Dual Socket Splitter with USB Charging PortWorst! Product! Ever! This is a very poor quality design. When it is plugged into the socket, any little bump or jolt causes it to lose power. No matter what angle it is set in, it is physically impossible not to jiggle it. I drive a stick and every time I shift gears, the shifter knocks it out of kilter. Drives me crazy (those who know me say that it's a short trip) :-)

On the upside, the USB port worked and is a cool gadget. It powered my iBook nicely on a recent trip. Too bad the rest of it was such a piece of junk.

This is not the adapter you're looking for, move along.....

This thing blew out the fuses on 2 of my satelite radios, and blew out the fuse on my car while I was using the USB port to charge my iphone. When you plug things into it they come back out in short order. It also comes out of the socket that you plug it into. NOT happy. Its too bad because its a good idea.

I purchased this item mainly for the USB. I only had my cell phone plugged into it for about 10 minutes when I noticed the green light no longer lit and my phone no longer charging. When I pulled the unit out it was VERY HOT! When I got to work I pulled out the internal fuse and it was ok so it appears the unit is no longer functioning. Not much bang for the buck IMO.

I bought this unit for a driving vacation, and the entire unit stopped working after a few minutes. It may have been the fuse in the power outlet adapter, but I only had a GPS and an iPhone plugged in it.

Foolishly, I bought another one a few hundred miles away, hoping I had bought a lemon and that the product was probably good. Unfortunately, the USB died on this unit after a couple of hours.

I ended up using a larger more expensive power adapter with a Griffin double-USB powerblock. It worked fine except for the space it took up.

Would someone please make a product along these lines, that works well for people like me who have GPS, iPhones and other devices that need to be charged.

The product should also be solid, and not loosely rattle around on its hinges like this device. The product would ideally also have 2 USB ports and be able to charge iPods/iPhones/digital cameras without blowing a fuse.

Want Powerline By Original Power 0900-79 12-Volt DC Dual Socket Splitter with USB Charging Port Discount?

I have watched at least a half dozen of these fry. The USB port overheats a capacitor in the splitter, and then the whole thing is worthless.

If you bought one of these, and don't want it to fry, don't use the USB port. It appears that the USB port is what causes the failure of this miserable product.

My advice: Return it and wait for them to make a new model.

AmazonBasics 2-Port USB Car Charger with 2.1 Amp Output (Black)

AmazonBasics 2-Port USB Car Charger with 2.1 Amp Output
  • Note: Please consult your product's user guide to determine compatibility with your device.

Smart phones and tablets have two charging modes: USB and AC. The mode the phone uses depends on what it thinks is charging it. If it thinks it is connected to a dumb charger it will go into AC mode and ask for as much current as it needs. If it thinks it is connected to a computer it goes into USB mode and asks for 500 mA because that is what the USB bus on most computers is capable of providing. Because of this, USB charge mode charges much more slowly than AC mode and on some devices that need a large amount of current (like iPads) USB mode might not charge your device at all (the device will still be receiving charge, just not enough, so it will lose battery, just at a slower pace).

When I hooked my phone into this charger it went into USB charge mode (500 mA) even though the charger is rated at 2.1 Amps (it is 2 Amps max shared between the two ports but I have not checked to see if that means 1 Amp per port, or if only one port is connected that single port can use the full 2 Amps). The way that your phone determines which mode to enter depends on if the data pins of the USB port are shorted together or not; if they are shorted (the data pins are the center pins of the 4 pin USB connector) it will enter AC mode, otherwise it thinks it is a computer port and will enter USB mode. On this charger the pins are not shorted. I have found this to be the case with the overwhelming majority of chargers I have experimented with. They are rated for 1 Amp or more but consistently put my phone into USB mode. I assume this is because you can buy regular USB connectors in bulk much more cheaply than you can buy a properly wired AC charging USB connector. So the ability to put out more than 500 mA is there, your phone just will never ask for more.

It is easy enough to fix the charger so that it will enter AC mode if you know how to solder. You just unscrew the power end of the charger where the fuse is, then use a flat head screw driver to pop the casing open down the seam. Once you do this you are left with the circuit board that the USB connectors are attached to. Solder the center pins together on each USB port (it's a somewhat tight fit soldering the port on the side where the LED is connected but completely doable) and then just pop it all back together. If you are careful in taking it apart you won't damage the casing at all. After doing this my phone and all other device I have tried report that they are in AC mode.

I have tried charging an iPad with this charger (both by itself and with another device connected) and in both cases it reports that it is "Not Charging". This leads me to believe that it is a max of 1 Amp on each port (the iPad needs 2.1 Amps, at least when the screen is on). If you put the iPad to sleep it charges fine, with or without another device connected on the other port. And again, when an iPad or iPhone says that it is not charging, it is still "charging" just not fast enough to meet the needs of the device so the battery will still get drained.

I hope this helps anyone who has had problems with the charger or is considering buying it. I think it works perfectly fine (then again I was irritated with it until I modded it). It is really difficult to tell if one of these chargers is wired for AC mode until you get your hands on it and try it out. And if you have a device that doesn't check the data pins and kick itself into USB mode you should get the full current of the charger without modding it. It is technically the phone that is limiting the current being delivered not the charger.

Update:

Wow, they raised the price on this charger to $20. It was $10 when I got it. I wouldn't pay $20 for it. Buy a mini or a micro charger that sits flush with your dash (or close to it). This charger is pretty big. Or get a charger that can do a dedicated 2 Amps on one of the ports. I'd say it is worth it for $10 but not much more.

Buy AmazonBasics 2-Port USB Car Charger with 2.1 Amp Output (Black) Now

I've been using a now unavailable Kensington PowerBolt as my car charger, mainly for my iPhone 4, but occasionally to reanimate my iPad 2. A single USB socket is fine for commuting, but on long car trips when my car is filled with children and gadgets, a double socket makes for a lot less futzing.

I tested this by charging my iPhone 4 while in use, while simultaneously charging a Kindle Fire and it seems to work fine. On my 40 minute commute, I can add about 20% to the charge status of the Kindle while topping of the iPhone, all without any overheating or fuses popping. A couple years ago, I went through many chargers trying to find one that could reliably power an active iPhone, so I'm glad that cool running chargers have become so inexpensive even while powering two devices.

Devices I've tested and found to work:

iPhone 4

iPhone 4S

iPod Touch 3rd Generation

Kindle Fire

Kodak Playful pocket video camera

Sony Bloggie Touch camera (Needs a USB extension cable or it blocks the other charging port.)

Remington hair clipper

Jabra Extreme Bluetooth headset

Devices I've tested which didn't work:

HP Touchpad

Materials are pretty cheap looking, and the device is much, much larger than the PowerBolt; this makes it easier to insert and remove but I'd have been happier with something compact as the large size makes it easy to knock it out of kilter and stop charging which you might not notice while concentrating on driving. This can be really annoying. So not a perfect charger by any means, but a useful budget model.

I have been using it since last two weeks now. This is simply awesome product.

I have used "Griffin Powerjolt Dual Universal USB Micro" before and AmazonBasic is much better than Griffin for following reason

1) Design: Griffin is so small that it gets stuck in the car charger. Amazon basic is perfect size .. neither too small nor too big (it looks huge in pics but actually is small)

2) Charging time: This is why you buy a car charger ... Amazonbasic is 2.1 amp vs griffin which is 1 amp... Amazonbasic charger charges phone twice as fast griffin. I use iphone 4 and it gets fully charged (from 10% battery) while i m listening to music in an hr

3) Quality: Griffin use to get very hot (and even my phone use to get hot) after 1 hr of charging ... amazon car charger is of much better quality ... I have used it all day and neither charger nor phones get hot

Overall I would highly recommend this product if u have a iphone (or any smart phone). Whether you are charging one device or two devices simultaneously it charges faster than any other product in market

UPDATE: Aug 28: Its been 10 months and this product is awesome... Actually I have noticed that my iPhone changes faster in car compared to even wall socket.

Want AmazonBasics 2-Port USB Car Charger with 2.1 Amp Output (Black) Discount?

I am trying to get a 2.1 Amp (or atleast 1 Amp) car charger for my HTC Vivid and HP Touchpad (CM7). These devices consume lot of battery when using gps in car. I had lot of hope on the amazon basics car charger. However, both my devices get only 500 mA from these chargers (which is not sufficient for GPS usage). The devices recognize the chargers as USB port and hence only 500 mA. I have performed amperage analysis on both Vivid and Touchpad using currentwidget for android. See customer images.

01/02/2011 Update:

Well, few people have suggested me about "data pin shorting protocol" for phone to differentiate between real usb port and charger's usb port. I would like to question the rationale behind ME doing it instead of AMAZON (or whoever the manufacturer really is). My wall chargers already have these data pins shorted. They charge every device I throw at them including iPhone. So why can't amazon manufacture them with data pins shorted initially.

Also I would not recommend end user meddling with power electronics. I value my phone and tablet more than a $10 (now $20!!) car charger. No thanks. Its simply not worth the hassle when its time to claim warranty.

A few other reviews are correct, this unit does ** NOT ** provide anywhere near two amps of charging current.

When charging an Android phone (HTC Rezound) the phone indicates the charging source is USB because of the low current (probably ~ 500 mA). If the charger was providing anything over one amp, the phone would indicate the charging source is AC.

The charger stays completely cool which also indicates it is not providing any amount of current flow or regulation.

One star for deceptive product description.

Samsung© Intensity II U460 Combo Rapid Car Charger + Home Wall Charger + USB Data Charge Sync Cabl

Samsung© Intensity II U460 Combo Rapid Car Charger + Home Wall Charger + USB Data Charge Sync Cable for Samsung© Intensity II U460What a great value! I got all three brand new for the price! I was so excited. I tried each one with my Samsung Intensity II and they all worked. I am just ashamed I doubted these at first before owning them. PLUS these are better made than what I got from the Verizon store! Will purchase again for sure! I will also recommend this set to anyone that has the same phone as myself.

I purchased this charger pack to supplement my new phone from Verizon Wireless. I have tried both the car and wall charger already and both worked fine to charge my phone. The connection to the phone is very good once connected but I advise to be gentle so as not to break it. Has nothing to do with this product in particular, it is just that the connection and connection port on the phone appear like they can be easily broken if the connection is forced. This has NOT happened to me, just looks like it. Anyway this is a nice charger set with both normal home and car connections which is very convenient, especially since the phone only comes with a home charger. Having an extra "home" charger I can keep at teh office ensures that I can charge at home, at work or in the car (essentially anytime). This product works and is very inexpensive, a great alternative to the official charger that you woudl get from the Verizon which I am sure would be multiples of the price. I have not had it for long so I cannot comment on the longevity of the item, but I recommend considering the much more expensive brand name alternatives. The one thing I was disappointed with was it took over two weeks to ge the item, which I thought was long. Amazons's website gives an estaimted delivery time and the item was deleivered at least a full week later than that. I was lucky I did not need it in a hurry. If you do, order early!! (5 star for product very low rating for delivery time although item received new sealed and in good working order just took too long to receive for an overall rating of 4 stars)

Digital Automotive Battery Analyzer

Digital Automotive Battery Analyzer
  • Checks voltage, cold cranking amps (CCA), resistance and overall battery condition
  • Continuous testing will not damage battery
  • Uses car battery for power, no extra internal batteries needed
  • Large backlit LCD screen
  • Covered in a soft case

The clamp on the positive (red) is broken. Note that has extremely flimsy plastic nubs to hold the copper teeth inside the probe's handle. Both nubs on the red side have broken off. I don't know if that was how I received it or happened during use. It doesn't matter to me since I can see that the ground (black side) has same cheap flimsy looking nubs so will require very gentle usage. I've used on three batteries.

Its pretty obvious they were saving a few cents with such cheap connection points. A pity. I'd be happy to spring for a couple more bucks to have beefy clamps such as on my different battery chargers and meters.

The electronics seems to work fine. I had AAA over to install a new battery in one of our vehicles and I compared results of his tests (mongo-meter with nice printout) with this meter and they were very close (V, milli amps, CCA). So I'm happy there. Just add some heft to those clamps.

I'm currently waiting for some Gorilla Glue to dry to attempt to hold the jaws in the red clamp. Wish me luck. Otherwise I'll remove their clamps and wire in some from an old battery charger. Even alligator clips would be superior if insulated.

If you're sitting there thinking to yourself, "should I?," just buy them. 1st off, they're made in USA, while all others are made by slaves in (probably) Canada, England, or Australia. You're paying a bit more, but paying for the quality and craftsmanship. Sure, Tom over in Michigan probably forgot the insulation on the thermo coupling before leaving work, which is what led to your electric shock, but at least you know that it was welded by a guy who couldn't wait to leave the factory so he could go have an old Milwaukee and watch family guy... Just like you. I may sound off point, but these cables have soul and character. I used these to jump a power wheels, a car, a lawn mower, a motorcycle, a boat (which is probably why all the fish died), an airplane (mid flight), a TV remote control, and a hot air balloon. Look at it like this. If you're daunted by the price, divide it by the number of times you use it. Each jump has only cost me about 50k. Bam! The wife was against it after selling the house, but she'll come around once she gets out of jail. The good thing? They're worth money even after using them all over the place. I could sell them on Craigslist for at least $13.58 today.

TMS PJ3500 3500-Pound 12-volt Electric Power Tongue Jack RV Utility Boat Trailer Camper

TMS PJ3500 3500-Pound 12-volt Electric Power Tongue Jack RV Utility Boat Trailer CamperThis jack is being marketed under many names. I bought one from this vendor July 2011 and finally got around to installing it at the end of June 2012.

It is junk, mine failed after less than a month of use.

It is interesting that this vendor has added a sticker to the jack claiming it has a 3500 pound capacity while most others are saying it has a 3000# rating. Otherwise the units are identical. As other reviewers have noted this unit is really only suitable for raising a tongue with a few hundred #s of load. Since trailer couplers often hangup on the ball until part of the tow vehicle weight is lifted even a small trailer is likely to cause this jack to fail.

Brush type DC motors(I am an electrical engineer) are moderately reliable when operated within their load ratings, but when overloaded brushes quickly fail. When I tap the motor housing while holding the switch on and use the crank to rotate the motor it intermittently starts. This tells me that this motor has suffered brush failure and that the motor is not suitable the the load it is experiencing. The motor is small, just 3 1/4 " diameter and 4 3/4"long, only slightly bigger than auto blower motors. It is totally enclosed, necessary for its exposure to the elements but that also means it will have difficulty dissipating heat.

Also, the jack does not use a hex head for manual operation and the handle which comes with it will not clear many V nosed trailers. So when the motor fails you have to crank it half a turn at a time. If it used a hex head or perhaps a 1/2" socket drive you could use a variety of ratchet handles.

So do yourself a favor and buy a better unit. This jack is poorly engineered and vastly overrated.

I may do a tear down and follow up with details of internal construction.

t just love this electric jack it works good has a very good lift it could be faster but it is ok

I have not used the jack except for just raising and lowering it for test on my camper, but it worked like I expected. At first it would not work until I discovered that the paint on it and the toungue was preventing it from grounding. I removed the flat washer from one of the bolts and tightened it to break the paint seal and it worked as expected. If it doesn work after awhile, I will post again. I like the built-in lights too.

Audiovox SIR-PNP2 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver

Audiovox SIR-PNP2 Sirius Satellite Radio ReceiverSirius satellite should be considered a great complement to your audio system, whether in home or car. It should not be considered an end all to music selection. It will not replace CDs, mp3s or typical over the air radio. Once this expectation is established, it's good to see Sirius as a decent addition to those who love music.

First off, how much does it cost? You'll need a receiver, then a docking system for the home or office. Then there is a setup fee. So you're looking at a little under $200 to get started. Quite a huge investment for just checking out a new type of radio. I would advise getting Sirius professional installed in your car, unless you don't mind wire flaying around when you drive while looking at a tacking do it yourself setup. Also, if you want both home and office, you'll have to buy a boombox. This can run to about $350 total. Quite pricey, especially when it doesn't include any monthly fees.

Secondly, how about the reception? It's surprisingly well in my car, but does suffer some dark spots when you go under a tunnel or when travelling through a tree line street. However, I was unable to get any signal in neither my home nor my office, so don't automatically assume that it will work at your home. The only consolation is that if you sign up for Sirius, you get monthly web access.

Thirdly, how about the playlist? The best way to describe Sirius's playlist is probably a lot breadth, but not quite a lot of depth. For music, unless you love every type of music available, you'll actually only have about 10 music stations to listen to. For example, all Classical, Latin, Electronic, Jazz, Children and Love stations are absolutely useless to me as this not my type of music. In terms of sports, it's got the NFL, NBA, and if ever, NHL. The best game for radio, baseball, is with XM satellite, which is a huge bummer. Many of the news stations and entertainment stations are just audio replays of audio stations, so it's got commercials and aren't altogether suited for radio. For example, you'll hear, "take a look at this replay". Well, I can't look, it's radio. All in all, the talk and music is the equivalent of doubling the FM and AM radio stations of a big city. You'll still listen to your normal stations, but the number of stations will be expanded.

Fourthly, how about the receiver itself? It's pretty good. The display is huge. You get to see the band or song name before switching to a different station. I love that. It can store 20 songs, which, when one of the songs comes up, the receiver will beep and give you the option of changing to that station. The only small problems were that sometimes the stored songs didn't come up, and the turn wheel will lacks a grip, which is annoying when driving.

Fifthly, what were some of the major problems of Satellite radio? Besides the high cost for the equipment, the fact that they charge an activation fee was annoying. I'm willing to pay a monthly fee, do I need to add another fee to that? Secondly, the nickel and diming continues with the fact that the receiver contains no basic antenna nor power supply. You must buy a docking kit no matter what. I bought a car docking kit, but it only had a power supply for the cigarette lighter, which meant that all setup has to be done outdoors, in the car, with the car running. I couldn't even test it to see if it would work indoors, so I had to buy a boombox to test, only to find out it didn't work, and then return the boombox. A cheap home AC/DC power supply included in the docking kit would have saved me hours without costing me fifty dollars for the other docking system. Also, the customer service is not that great. The people on phone are nice, but you have to endure the navigation system along with a large self-serving tirade about how well Sirius radio is before you can get to the menu. In order to get stream player access, you have to e-mail them for the password, but no one bothered to reply to my e-mail, so I had to call them again. When the company won't give you the password for the free web access, and won't reply when you follow the website instructions, it gets annoying. Another thing is the repetitiveness and limiting factors of the playlist. Some of the bands I'm interested in, Carbon Leaf, the Streets, Perfect Circle, Tool groups that I thought should appear for paid radio, are not really there. However, Ashlee Simpson, Maroon 5 and Leonard Skynard are pretty much on 24/7. Not quite the original playlists I was hoping to get.

Finally, what were some of the things that surprised me? First off, it's still cool. To be free of Clear Channel's chokehold on music radio is great. The web access is free. XM charges you about four dollars a month, making it more expensive monthly if you use web access. If you get Dish Network, the music stations are there already to listen through over your television. If you don't get Dish Network, you can get a free preview via the web for three days. Nice. Finally, I've become acquainted with many bands that I would not have known or just barely remember. It's nice to hear Traffic, Public Enemy, Guns and Roses, Flogging Molly, N.W.A., etc.

So, all in all, it's a nice complement, but it's no magic musical panacea.

Pros:

Song preview

20 Memory Storage

Large display

Free online access after signing up

Free 3-day online preview

Cons:

Nickel and diming

Very repetitive song list

Entertainment and News is Just a Replay of Television

Customer Service is lacking

Signal cannot be received in many places.

Minimum Setup Cost ~ 200 dollars

Optimal Setup Cost ~ 350 dollars

Monthly Cost ~ 13 dollars

The first thing I'd like to give here is a warning NPR lovers beware. The NPR stream available here is probably not what you expect. Check out NPR /Sirius websites to see what it offers before buying. NPR was my biggest reason for buying Sirius over xm.

Overall though, I am thrilled, the BBC stream is tremendous, the music channels are varied and play a great collection of music inside their genres. The sports channels let me hear NHL and NBA games now and will let me hear every NFL game.

The product is good, not perfect, but well conceived. Setup was simple and 10 minutes after purchase I was up and running, the auto adaptor broadcasts on the four 88.x fm channels.

In short I recommend the product, but educate yourself carefully to make sure you know what you're getting.

Buy Audiovox SIR-PNP2 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver Now

Let me start by saying that I've listened to both XM and Sirius, and Sirius' programming is far superior. The streamhosts, though they do talk a little bit, bring a ton of knowledge and programming savvy to the streams. And the variety is very good. And I really like that subscribers can listen to the music channels online for free.

As for the Audiovox receiver: I bought the receiver, the car kit and the home kit. I'm giving it 4 stars because it's pretty good and easy to operate. I like the "memo" feature that allows you to find your favorite songs no matter what stream they're on. And the remote control is nice for home use.

But it does have some annoying issues that should give most people pause.

As mentioned by several others here, the tuner runs very hot during continuous use. Don't make the mistake of leaving the radio on without the car running. Mine got so hot sitting in my parked car (it was about 80 degrees that day) that the screen blacked out and it wouldn't work until I shut it down and let it cool off.

I also moved the receiver and antenna from one car to another one, and in the process broke the antenna connector plug. It's really poorly made. The jack is difficult to plug and unplug, and there's a weak point that breaks easily. You have to really tug on it to unplug it. I tried soldering the plug back together, but that didn't work. I'm going to have to spend $50 to get a replacement antenna. Solution: If you have two cars, buy two car kits.

And now that Sirius is on Dish Network, it defeats the purpose of having a receiver in my living room.

In hindsight, I should have bought a car-only receiver that hooked into my stereo.

The receiver has two issues that have to be considered. First this guy gets really hot. Both in the car and in the home. Heat was the cause of a failure of this item in my house (the fm modulator died) Audiovox did send me a free replacement, but I was out of use for a few weeks. The other issue is signal strength. The FM modulator could use a boost. When traveling, I have to change the frequency to get a solid signal. Otherwise I get interference from other stations in the 88.1 to 88.7 range. Is there something better? I tried the JVC and it's cooler, but the signal strength of the FM modulator is no better.

Want Audiovox SIR-PNP2 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver Discount?

First XM or Sirrius I chose sirius only for the programming I was leaning towards XM but the entire NFL plus WABC out of New York and 790 the Zone out of Atlanta made me choose sirius.

I bought it mainly for the news talk -comedy channels but the Music Stations are great My daughter and I can finally agree on some of the music channels which is a nice change. The traffic / weather reports are much more detailed than on the standard Atlanta radio.

The sound is great in the car. It made my 98 Neon (please don't laugh) a great little car again that is fun to drive. The hour drive to work is enjoyable and more relaxing. I also bought the boombox and move the unit from the car to the boombox easily.

I rarely lose signal and then it's when I'm parked under an overhang like a gas station filling up. Every once in a while the signal may or may not drop while driving under very heavy trees and then just a split second. On the drive to work I expected to lose signal in the parking deck, but there must be a terrestial antennea nearby and no signal loss. I do not even need the antennae on the boombox at work.

The car adapter that came with this knocks a point off. It is an FM modulator. Meaning I tune the radio to 88.1 (or .3 .5 .7) depending on which frequncy I use on the adpater. Atlanta has an 88.1 and a 88.5 radio station so I set the PNP2 set to 88.3. 99.5% it works great. But 88.5 must boost the power output and bleeds into the 88.3 band which causes very minor static sometimes. Since Satellite radio is so much better than FM I removed the car antennae completely I don't listen to anything else but the Sirius Radio.

KD Tools 202 Battery Terminal PullerSure it is just a puller, but a quality built puller you will be handing down. No plastic parts here like others advertized for the same price on here, built for the long haul.

Cellular Line Interphone F4 PLUS DUAL Stereo Bluetooth Handsfree Motorcycle Speakerphone Kit (2 Uni

Cellular Line Interphone F4 PLUS DUAL Stereo Bluetooth Handsfree Motorcycle Speakerphone KitThe communicators work great and do all they are supposed to. They are clear, loud, and have lots of distance. Easy to setup and operate also. On the down side, While they are weatherproof, The rubber outer covering does not do well with the sun beating on it while parked, it has a tendency to lift and seperate and gets sticky.. Also, the manual compression mount for the helmet keeps the plug in the communicator rubbing your jacket collar and damages the fit of the plug causing it to flex and get loose and damage the circuit board.. I have replaced both communicators due to this problem within the first year and have since moved them up the helmet with the sticky mount. That seems to have cured the plug problem. Other then these two issues, I'm very happy with them..

This product works very well, I would recommend them for every rider carrying a passenger. No yelling to hear each other, a much safer ride.

Delphi SA10042 XM Radio Roady Remote Control

Delphi SA10042 XM Radio Roady Remote ControlBefore buying this product, XM radio scored a 10 out of 10 in my book. With this product, XM goes all the way to 11. Yes 11 out of 10. No longer do I have to reach across and change stations. In addition, the scan feature means that I am listening to more and better music. Like digital cable or satellite tv, you can now scan stations to see what's playing without actually changing the channel. In short, if you own a roady you owe it to yourself to get the remote.

Having this remote makes my driving safer! I clip it to my seatbelt and don't need to reach across the dash every time I want to change a station.

Even better--the "scan" feature is a lot of fun. With so many stations I rarely got to hear a lot of what's available on XM. The scan feature is fun. It will scan either my presets, or the whole XM spectrum.

Also easier to save songs in my playlist. The large XM button is easier to find than the one on the corner of the Roady.

If you've already bought a Roady, spend another couple of bucks and get this, too. You need one.

I was very pleased with the remote control for the XM radio. It is a lot easier to use than fiddling with the radio itself when driving.

This remote works nicely, user friendly. The buttons DO NOT light up or glow in the dark, but not a big issue. Overall I think its a wonderful item and makes having XM radio safer because you don't have to take your eyes off the road to use it.

Want Delphi SA10042 XM Radio Roady Remote Control Discount?

The Roady II is an excellent product, but if you're eyes are no longer what they once were, you will find its small buttons to be a challenge to both see, and operate in a bouncing vehicle. This is especially true if you must mount the Roady at arm's length or more. The remote control really is a "must have" item, and turns a very good product into an excellent one. The only functions missing from the remote are access to features that select basic setup items or options such as the selection of the display color on the Roady. For those, you still have to use the tiny buttons on the Roady itself. This is a no-brainer. Get one!

VIAIR 90P Portable Compressor

VIAIR 90P Portable CompressorI'm very impressed by the performance of the 90P Viair compressor. I originally had wanted to buy the 70P Viair compressor because it was cheaper and because it has the car accessory plug-in (instead of the alligator clips), but both my cars has a 10amp accessory fuse and I did not want to take the risk of blowing them every time I used the compressor (I believe the 70P has a 14 amp draw). This led me to consider either the Masterflow, or the MV50, because of their reviews in Amazon. After reading many reviews later, I decide against both of them, mainly because I wasn't very keen on the screw-on air chuck and the coil spring hose. I wanted the snap-on chuck and didn't want to have to stretch a hose to get to a tire. Plus, I noticed that if the hose is attached to the farthest tire, the gauge would wind up being on other end of the car since it's attached to the compressor. I know these are small inconveniences, but for me, I wanted easy on, easy off, no pulling, and the tire gauge by the tire. The 90P looked to have what I wanted plus I thought it looked sturdier and well built. The price of the 90P was a little more than I wanted to pay but the reviews I read convinced me to give it a shot

I have a couple of tires with slow leaks that I haven't had a chance to bring in to fix. I was amazed at how fast it pumped up my tires from about 25lbs to 32lbs (both tires in about 1 min. each). I also topped off all four of my sister's tire in a few mins. The attached air gauge was just as accurate as my hand held gauge, and the bleeder valve on the chuck is definitely a plus. I know I probably won't be using the compressor as much, once I fix my tires, but WOW, you really get what you paid for. Not only is this fast, it quiet. I'm sure the Masterflow and the MV50 performance are probably comparable based on their reviews, but overall, I'm very happy with my choice. I have two other compressors which I paid about $25 for and they are twice as loud and take about 10 times longer. I'll probably keep one as a spare and throw the other one away.

Of course, after I bought this and used it, I found out that there is an 80P viair out there, also with the snap-on chuck, but for less. I would have gone and exchanged the two to save some money, but, I'm so impressed with 90P's performance that I didn't want to go thru the hassle of mailing it back and risk being disappointed. Will probably try the 80P if I need another one, but if they ever discontinue the 80P, I would definitely buy this one again.

I didn't give this a five star because I thought the wire should have been just a little longer and the price more inline with its competitors.

PRO

Snap-on air chuck with bleeder valve

Fast and very quiet.

Gauge is accurate.

Light and well built.

Fits well in bag (no need to detach hose to fit)

No filters to change/replace.

CON

Price

If you have a big truck, the wire may not reach your furthest tire. I have a pilot and I have only a little more than a feet of leeway (from battery to furthest tire

I got this tire inflator because I didn't want to be dependent on my local gas station to fill my tires up. Last time I went there the air compressor was broken, so I finally bought this.

This unit hooks directly up to your car's battery. My 2010 Honda Accord only puts out 10 amps through the DC outlet inside the car, so I decided to get this one rather than similar units that I have seen that hook up inside your car rather than the battery. I have read other reviews about some of these inflators blowing fuses in the cars, so I was aware of that issue ahead of time.

After connecting the clamps to the battery and turning on my car, I filled up all my tires just to top them off. The compressor is relatively quiet (certainly not loud by my definition) and added about 2 psi to each tire in about 10 seconds for each tire. The unit was a little warm after all four tires, but certainly not anywhere near hot to hurt my hands from touching the metal heatsink. It probably gets hotter if you leave it on for longer, but for periodic tire inflation maintenance, it seems like it is rugged enough to handle it.

The nozzle is a clampdown type which also has a release switch. You press the release switch once to lock it into the release position, and press it again to close it back up.

Most of the parts are made of metal, not plastic. It does have rubber feet on the bottom to absorb the vibrations though. The length of the hose and DC power cord put together is just enough to reach all four tires on my car comfortably. The bag that comes with it fits all of the parts with some room to spare (I also keep my tire guage in there now).

All things considered, I think this is a pretty good unit. The construction feels good, which is reassuring since I had another tire inflator a while back that did not last long. It does everything I expected.

Buy VIAIR 90P Portable Compressor Now

Pros

Quiet operation (specs state 67db) much quieter than the gasoline station compressor

on/off switch

Cables are long enough to reach my rear tires on a full sized sedan with ease (5ft air hose + 11ft power cable).

Filling performance/speed on par with gasoline station compressors

Can work on tires up to 33"

Sturdy metal construction quick connect device

Cons (very minor critiques)

I wish carrying bag was slightly bigger or the location of the air hose outlet could change. When I put the compressor in the bag it seems like it could unnecessarily bend the hose if I' not careful. This is just a very minor complaint.

Haven't gotten the pressure gauge to read correctly.

1 year warranty (wish it was 2 or 3 years)

If you goto viair's website, the 70p is for up to 175/65/15 tires, which is 15" tires. I had 18" tires, so that's why I looked into the 90p.

I also looked at the Masterflow/Q-Industries MF-1050 / MV-50. These pumps are spec'd similarly to the Viair 90p. One confusing thing is that the MF-1050 and MV-50 are the same exact pump did some research online. In the end, I opted for the Viair brand, b/c their website and company history seemed more solid than MasterFlow.

I think a lot of people who get compressors w/ a power rating of only 15A (those that are powered by cigarette lighters or 110v cords) have a pump that's just too underpowered for their needs. That's why it breaks down or they have an unsatisfactory experience.

This Viair 90p definitely meets my needs and I'd recommend it to all.

Read Best Reviews of VIAIR 90P Portable Compressor Here

I've had the little Viair 90p for about three years now. It's used to pump up tires following off-road trips and sees plenty of use. When other compressors have difficulty pumping up four tires this little thing just keeps going and going pumping up tire-after-tire even in the heat. Other compressors thermal out, overheating and shutting down. The Viair puts out 1.77 cu.ft. of air a minute and puts a 33" SUV tire from 18 psi to 36 psi in about four minutes. It uses a clamp-on valve connector which is quicker and easier to use then the kind that screws in place. Between the electrical cable and air hose it reaches all corners of my SUV with a bit of room to spare.

Want VIAIR 90P Portable Compressor Discount?

I was not happy burning fuel to get to a gas station then shoving $1.75 in quarters to pump air. So, I looked for a better solution; one that I can leave in the garage or take with me in a convenient soft case.

I researched the various portable air compressor products at Amazon.com, especially the reviews. Reviewers complained of blown fuses using the cigarette lighter so I steered to this model that uses battery clamps. The 6 page "User Manual" has four pages of features and safety instructions including not to use when sleepy! There are less the three pages of actual instructions. This product is made in China and its user manual reflects a translation without using it. The manufacturer's web site offers no user manuals and is less than helpful unless you are an engineer.

This unit draws 23 amps and my cigarette lighter circuit has a 7 amp fuse. Even directly connecting to the battery, the manual does advise to run your engine. You then rely upon the 90P's in-line 30 amp fuse. I had no problem with blown fuses either without running the engine or with running the engine.

Next, reviewers complain of short cables. If you drive a truck, it may be too short unless you use those jumper cables you carry to help fellow citizens. I measured 12 feet of power cable and five feet air hose, exactly as advertised. So the 17 feet worked fine for a Jeep and a BMW 5-series. The manual does say to fully uncoil all cables.

Last, reviewers complain of inaccurate pressure gauge readings. The manual does not clarify this. To add pressure, it pumps air in with higher pressure. That affects the real-time pressure gauge reading. As a few reviews pointed out, pump three to four pounds more than you need then turn off the pump. The idle pressure reading is accurate per two other passive gauges I have.

The air bleeder chuck and air pressure hose are heavy duty quality items. The pressure relief valve, while convenient to adjust to a lower pressure, is also tricky to use. Press it too hard and it continually lets air out. I suggest a brief air release before adding air to release any moisture.

My expectations are exactly meet so 5 stars. It is seemingly well made; has multiple attachments; runs much quieter than a commercial air pump; is light weight and fits in a carry pouch. Long-term usage? I do not yet know; but I am registering online for the one-year warranty.

Deltran Battery Tender 12 Volt Cigarette Plug Adapter

Deltran Battery Tender 12 Volt Cigarette Plug AdapterI gave this product 3-stars, mainly because it works fine; however an extentsion cable is needed or it will be useless on a car. I recommend it to anyone that doesn't drive their vehicle every week, but an extension cable is definitely needed.

I followed the directions and I could not get it to work on any of our automobiles. We had another version from Porsche that worked great, this attachment did not perform!

OutBack Power GTFX3048 Sealed Grid Tie Inverter 3000W 48VDC

OutBack Power GTFX3048 Sealed Grid Tie Inverter 3000W 48VDC
  • Nominal DC Input Voltage: 48V
  • Continuous Power Rating at 25° C: 3000VA
  • AC Voltage/Frequency: 120V AC 60 Hz
  • AC Input Current Max: 60A AC
  • OutBack Power GTFX3048 Inverter - Sealed

I've had the product for several months ... with only a single problem. One day the inverter stopped selling excess power back to the grid even though all the settings appeared correct. The solution? Reboot the inverter. Yup, it's a computer and apparently it needs to be rebooted every so often. That is definitely a serious mark against it. I used another brand, a TRACE 4024 inverter for 18 years and never had to 'reboot' it. So, in all honesty, I'm a little disappointed. Also, the user-interface to this Outback product leaves a lot to be desired.
