Yaesu FT-60R DualBand Handheld 5W VHF/UHF Amateur Radio Transceiver - Dual Band

Yaesu FT-60R DualBand Handheld 5W VHF/UHF Amateur Radio Transceiver - Dual BandThis is a great radio. It is dual VHF/UHF (2M and 70cm bands) receive and transmit but it will scan many more including the NOAA radio weather channels. Plenty of memories and the ability to break memories into banks such as local repeaters or local fire/rescue.

It's true that the microphone connection is a phono plug however, the Yaesu external microphone/speaker plug goes in at a right angle so I don't know how anyone has pulled it out accidentally. I never have.

The one negative I have found is that the "0" (zero) key on the keypad activates a function to prefix transmissions with DTMF tones for Yaesu's "WIRES" repeater function. This is of course, very easy to activate accidentally and will send a DTMF prefix whether you meant to or not, reducing your audio to next to nothing so other stations don't hear your call sign or the call sign of the station you are calling. There's a way to disable this but why this feature was not assigned to a function key I don't know.

I purchased this radio just over a year ago from a major ham radio retailer. At that time, the price was about what it is on Amazon now, and has since decreased a decent amount. The radio itself, however is outstanding. As a new ham, all of the acronyms and features had me pretty confused, but within a week or two of use, the radio was much simpler to program and operate.

The build quality of the unit is notable, and definitely a step above other cheap knockoff radios that exist. My radio has held up very well to moderate use, and even survived a couple of spills with no real notable damage. As another review noted, the design of the accessory port leaves something to be desired, although I have found that routing your speaker mic cable under the belt clip aids in keeping the plug seated properly.

Programming the radio by hand is not something I would want to attempt with 50+ channels, but is doable. Get yourself a cable and search around for the software, and it goes much smoother.

Most of my club members have purchased the FT-60R, and the club owns an additional 10. Altogether we have had no real issues with any of them.

I would definitely recommended this HT as a solid performer for any ham looking to pickup an HT.

73's!

This is a great radio. Easy to use and lots of features. The only thing I don't like about it is the external microphone port doesn't have threads to secure the cable.

I use a HAM radio roughly about 2-3 times a year when I lend my time to the Miami Marathon and the MS150 as a volunteer radio operator. This radio replaced my old clunky Radio Shack VHF HTX-202 which was my very first radio. I love Yaesu because they always pump out a great product and I already have a Yaesu in my car as my mobile unit, therefore you can count on the interface being very similar.

This radio is very easy to use and you can usually figure out what you are doing even without the manual because it is rather intuitive as to how to set your tones and program the memory.

It has excellent range and the battery life is amazing, huge improvement over my last radio which was using NiCad primarily. It is quite light weight and fits nicely in your hand to allow for one hand operation.

The only thing I wonder is if this radio could use an upgraded antenna, not sure as of yet.

I am new to amatuer radio. I bought this radio to start working on my amateur license. Radio has a lot of useful features. Although I am not totally familiar with all of the feautres I am learning as I go along. I have already tested its transmission/receiving at 430.000mhz Hi setting power using basic communication, no repeater or extended antenna. Got a little over 1.5 miles in the city. Great radio bought it when my friend showed me a similar model which works fine.

Sony DCC-E34CP Car Connecting Pack

Sony DCC-E34CP Car Connecting Pack
  • Most Sony Discman(R) or CD-Walkman personal CD players can now be used in your car
  • Car adapter plugs into your cigarette lighter port
  • Cassette Adapter fits into your car's cassette player so you can hear CD play through your car's stereo system

This kit worked perfectly the first 2-3 times. Then the cassette adapter fritzed. To hear any sound at all, I had to turn up the volume full blast on both the CD player and the car cassette deck. Even then, highway speeds drowned out the sound. The sound was unbalanced between the speakers, coming out much more strongly from the right than the left. And the sound quality was horrible -fuzzy, with a strong, deep, buzzy hum. I expected better of Sony. I bought a Maxell adapter and I have had no problems with it. Forget Sony and look elsewhere.

Sony used to make the best cassette adapters around, and I owned several of the old ones. When they finally died after 10 years of usage, I bought a new set recently. The significant change they made was removal of the tension wheel and used a flimsy white tape for tension instead. That tape broke within 2 weeks of usage. After 2 replacements which were also short lived, I gave up and went with a different brand. Sony... you guys disappoint me.

I have heard of other kits like this having problems so I went and got the slightly more expensive Sony brand. I thought it might also work better with my Sony brand Discman. Really the only complaint is the power cord. It doesn't plug well into the cd player. I had to end up using a rubber band to keep it the power going to the unit. Even then if you move the cd player much you still have to adjust the power cord to get it to play again. I just thought since both were Sony brand that they should work a lot better together than they did.

TYC 1-03205 Starter

TYC 1-03205 StarterThis starter fits my 95 Bronco and works fine. I have only had it installed for about three weeks at this point. The original factory starter lasted about 1780,000 miles. the price was about 1/3 of what this would have cost through a conventional brick and mortar parts store. No shipping charge and it got here fast. Time will tell the whole story...

It works as well as any starter that's 3-4 times the price, buy it Im betting you won't regret it

I ordered this product expecting to be able to swap my key into it as well as the electronics. The first thing I found out was that it wouldn't swap in because the case has different tolerances, my key would fit one side of the case but the other side where the spring goes in was too big. You MUST spend the money to get their supplied blank cut to your key. In their listing of vehicles supported mine wasn't listed, a 1997 E320. This vehicle has a special chip in the key that must be present for the car to start. I had to cut out some plastic right next to the red lense to get the chip in. Once I put my electronics in, the button wouldn't hit the micro switch on the electronics for the remote to work. Frustrated completely, I took the spring and the button to unlock the key out of this fob and stuck them in my old remote. Then I tossed the rest in the garbage.

Duracell DRINVP175 175-Watt Pocket Inverter with 2.1-Amp USB Port

Duracell DRINVP175 175-Watt Pocket Inverter with 2.1-Amp USB PortThis 12 volt inverter is smaller than I possibly could have imagined. At 4x2.5x1, it's about the size of a deck of cards. It weighs only 4oz so it's almost as if it's a hollowed out piece of plastic. Impressive! Previous inverters that I've used were about the size of a brick (and weighed almost that much). I was completely surprised when I saw how small and light this was.

While it advertises 175W support, that is white lie told by the marketers. The product clearly states it can *peak* at 175W but in normal operation, it is rated for 130W. This is a small but important difference. I wish they'd just tell the truth and call it a "130W inverter" but exaggerating and advertising peak values seems to be an industry norm. An example where this little lie might get you: the charger that came with my laptop is 150W and would not work with this inverter. That said, I never bring along my huge 150W laptop power supply when traveling.

This inverter seems to have a small fan which is inaudible unless you hold the inverter up to your ear. During 20 minutes of formal testing, the inverter reached an external temperature of about 100 degrees. If I shined my thermometer inside the air vents, I was able to get readings of 108 degrees. I'm guessing that this inverter gets quite warm to the touch after extended operation. I doubt that it is any different than other products like laptop power bricks. If I notice higher temperatures in extended usage, I'll update my review.

My kill-a-watt noted that the Duracell inverter provides 115.5 volts. This is a little less than I get in my house (118 volts). The power hertz was way down from what I get in my house. At home I get 59.9hz but the inverter provided between 24 and 37hz. The faceplate says it will 120volts @ 60hz but I'm not sure if this is an issue with the kill-a-watt or the inverter. I'm not a physicist so I don't really know what applications are impacted by the difference in frequency.

My first test of the Duracell inverter was to make use of its USB port to charge my phone. There wasn't much to this testI plugged the cell phone into the USB port and it started charging. I count this as a success.

My next test was to plug in my laptop using the aforementioned 150W power supply. The laptop did not show that it was charging and the inverter's green power light started flashing. It appeared to be protecting itself from drawing too much power. Another success.

Next I plugged my laptop's 60 watt power supply into the inverter and confirmed that my laptop was now charging. The kill-a-watt showed I was drawing about 40 watts and the laptop indicated that it was plugged in. More success.

My final test was my CPAP machine. I've always wanted to be able to sleep in the car when on long trips but I have sleep apnea and require a CPAP machine. I wasn't crazy enough to plug my heated humidifier into this but I did test the CPAP and it worked fine. The machine draws 25 watts when operational so it's a fairly light load. Still, I was quite happy to see this work as this could definitely be something I use when on long drives.

Overall, I think this inverter is a steal. The small size will truly fit in your pocket and it seems to have enough capacity for almost anything reasonable that you will try to do in your car (charge a laptop). It also includes a set of clamp cables that could attach directly to a car or marine battery. This would be a great, inexpensive power solution for someone that lives in a place that sometimes loses power. Of course, you'd be very constrained on the wattage you could use so I think this would only work in the case of emergencies. But if you were an avid camper and could some how drag along a battery, this might be a handy way to plug in something like a CPAP machine when in the middle of nowhere.

This small and lightweight inverter is ideal for charging a laptop and a USB-powered iPod, cellphone or similiar device. It runs on the quiet side and fits nicely inside a laptop carrier or inside a car's glove compartment. It's one of the smallest devices I have owned for my electronic gadgets while traveling and performs excellently. I use it both for a small 10" notebook and to recharge my Kindle.

Although it comes with 12-volt cable clips, using them while driving would be impractical but are an added bonus at a campsite where a more powerful electronic device would need to be charged, but then make sure the car battery doesn't get depleted. The manual states a two-hour run time off a car battery while idle, but why tempt it?

I appreciate the added safety features on this small inverter. It has an electronic overload protection with automatic shutdown (the ideal range is 130-170W of combined devices), a non-user replacable 25 A fuse, low battery voltage shutdown and high-input voltage protection with automatic shutdown. Although I haven't had this happen to me yet, it also comes with an overheat protection with automatic shutdown. All these features help prevent blow-outs and destruction of electronic cigarette lighters and other outputs.

Its one weakness is the cigarette lighter plug itself. It stands about three inches long, so if your car's cigarette lighter is positioned in a tight spot, this device may be awkward or impossible to use. If your car's lighter is in the front dashboard with no obstructions, though, and you have only a laptop and iPod/iPhone to charge, this little gadget is ideal. It comes with a three-year limited warranty.

Buy Duracell DRINVP175 175-Watt Pocket Inverter with 2.1-Amp USB Port Now

The product works fine, but it fails to mention on amazon that this is 175 watts PEAK. On the device it reads 130 watts continuous, 175 watts peak. I bought this to charge my dell lattitude work laptop in my car and even with the laptop powered off it is unable to charge it. My laptop requires 150 watts so I thought I'd be covered with 175 but 130 isn't enought to get it done. I've been able to find other uses for it, and it works fine for charging camera batteries and handheld devices, but the ad is a little misleading.

Update: After re-reading the description, it does say "up to 100 watts compatability", but I still feel that should have been mentioned in the first line right next to "175". Still misleading, but I didn't read carefully enough.

This is my third inverter, and (just based on one test) this one is way, way, way quieter than my cheesy inverter from Walgreens and the cheesy (CyberPower) one from Walmart. As I understand almost all the noise is from tiny whiny fans, and the others sounded like high-pitched Dust Busters. By comparison this one was (for five minutes, at 40W) practically silent.

On the other hand, the box says it's 175 watts, but only if you hook it up directly to the car battery using the enclosed tiny jumper cables. Probably not what most people had in mind. The box says 175 watts peak power, 130 watts continuous (apparently with the jumpers), 120 watts (peak? continuous?) from the lighter socket. That's fine with me, but that's what it is.

Update: Year later, occasional use, still silent. As a 120-watt (peak?) inverter my experience is five-star. Just a truth-in-labeling issue.

Want Duracell DRINVP175 175-Watt Pocket Inverter with 2.1-Amp USB Port Discount?

This is a car inverter. It plugs into the cigarette lighter port and gives you an electric outlet. It works fine, with two exceptions. First, sometimes it makes a very high pitched hissing noise. Originally, I thought that mine was defective, and so I exchanged it. The replacement does the same thing.

Second, it has some kind of power saving feature that makes it so that it own't turn on until something draws from it. The problem is that many power supplies today have a similar feature they won't start drawing until power is available. One such device is the power supply for the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook. As a result, if you plug the power supply for the chromebook into this device, it will never start charging the Chromebook.

There is a work-around. If you use a power splitter, you can plug in the Chromebook power supply AND some other device that pulls a draw. Once it starts, the Chromebook will start drawing as well, and then you can unplug the other device. Its a pain, but it works.

Silverlit Ferrari Enzo for iPod, iPhone, and iPad

Silverlit Ferrari Enzo for iPod, iPhone, and iPadmy 10 year old loves the car. really fun and easy to drive and FAST, but we've gone thru a ton of batteries in 6 days. seems it only runs for about 10 minutes on the fresh batteries, then you need to add more. we will buy rechargeables for this, but it doesn't have a long play time.

Just recieved this as a present and can say it is a really good product. It's a lot of fun to drive, the controls are customizable to your preference as far as throttle input sensitivity, and the app also shows you how much energy is left in the batteries.

As someone already posted the battery life is short, but from my experience the battery life is about normal, if not a little longer. I drove it last night for 15 minutes and the in app charge showed 50% still. Besides I'll just use some rechargeble AA batteries and be good to go.

Three cautions:

1) The car has beautiful finish, but scratches easily as it doesn't have any rubber/hard plastic bumpers. Be careful

2) Low clearance means this car can only be used on smooth pavement. Be careful around foot/car traffic for the car and most importantly the user

3) Bluetooth range is short sadly (30 feet maybe), this is true of all devices not just this one. I've had RC cars with 2-3x the range of this, so that took time to get used to. This can be a problem if you lose connection in a heavily trafficed area and you can't steer it out of danger.

Buy Silverlit Ferrari Enzo for iPod, iPhone, and iPad Now

Just received this today and love it so far! It is definitely fast, so a big area to play with it would be best. Getting a handle on the controls is a little tricky at first, but luckily the app offers a joystick mode as well. Lots of fun extras, like turning on the headlights, hazards, honking the horn.

App was easy to download & set up. Was up and running in minutes. Definitely will be having lots of fun with my new Ferrari!

Optima Batteries 8003-151 34R RedTop Starting Battery

Optima Batteries 8003-151 34R RedTop Starting Batteryi've heard nothing but good things about optima batteries, but mine must've been a fluke, 'cuz it died after just 6 months. a battery test showed that it was indeed bad. but it has a 3-year warrant. HOWEVER, amazon does not accept returns for batteries, 'cuz it's hazmat. instead, it just tells me to recycle it at my authorized local recycling dealer. i called optima, and they told me that amazon is NOT an authorized online dealer, but fortunately they were able to find a servicer locally that i can go to, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed. the moral of the story? optima batteries are great, but do not buy them from amazon! in the unlikely even that your battery fails prematurely, amazon does not take care of you. spend a little bit more money and get them form a local store or someone who's authorized. that probably goes for any electronic things and amazon. don't get me wrong. i love amazon, but i probably would only buy books and such from them from now on

Fits nicely in my 2004 Mini Cooper S. Only thing to look out for is you need to manually spread the clamp for the positive terminal. Will not slide on without doing so. And of course bend the extra wire up and out of the way as the terminal is farther in on the battery than it is on the stock oem battery but that information I found all over the net. I have only had it in for a couple weeks so I cannot speak to its longevity. Does seem to turn the car over a little easier/quicker, but I could be imagining that.

Buy Optima Batteries 8003-151 34R RedTop Starting Battery Now

Bought this in October of 2010, battery got weaker & weaker within 3 months, finally crapped out by June. Had it on a recommended trickle charger & disconnected when not in use. Vehicles charging system was confirmed as being fine. Contacted seller at Bluegrass & they were very helpful but Optima demands that I spend $50 to ship back to seller when there is a local dealer near my house. I complained to Optima, they suggested I do a 10A fast charge to resucitate , which I did, & the case split within 15 minutes even though the battery never got hot. Then they have the gall to say that a split case is not covered under warranty. The el cheepo Walmart battery I'm using as a replacement has already outperformed the Optima piece of junk. Optima's 3 year "warranty" is nothing but a marketing ploy. Save your money & buy from someone who stands behind their products.

Amazon is not an authorized dealer for Optima! Optima will not honor the warranty, and Amazon will not stand behind this product either. Amazon is being very dishonest by selling this battery knowing there is NO warranty. Mine died after two years (into the three year replacement warranty) and Amazon will not do a single thing to stand behind the purchase. What else on this site isn't Amazon telling you doesn't have a warranty? I have been a loyal Amazon/Prime customer for years, but not after getting off the phone with Amazon about this battery. It maybe a little more expensive to buy local, but I just learned my lesson that it is really cheaper in the long run.

Want Optima Batteries 8003-151 34R RedTop Starting Battery Discount?

Pay attention before ordering this this is a HAZMAT item that is not returnable or refundable for any reason.

So, there is no warranty, regardless of what it says.

By the way the R on this battery stands for REVERSE, so the the negative and positive terminals are reversed, and this actually makes it not fit properly in most vehicles, don't think you can just turn it around the cables in the vehicles don't necessarily reach of the other side of the battery spot.

Also, unlike most optima batteries, this won't come with any indication of when it was manufactured....

LCD FM transmitter car charger for iPod Touch 2nd Generation and iPod Nano 4th Generation

LCD FM transmitter car charger for iPod Touch 2nd Generation and iPod Nano 4th Generation
  • Compatible for iPhone 3G
  • Fm Transmitter
  • Blue LED light
  • LED Power indicator
  • No battery needed

I got this transmitter to replace my old beklin which did not charge my i-pod nano 4th generation. It works very well. I had ordered an i-trip, which turned out to be a piece of junk, so I was kinda hesitant to by another cheepy one. But this far exceeded my expectations. It charges my i-pod and has a good reception, although I haven't traveled into a major city, like LA,where reception can be limited. But the sound quality is good.

Buy LCD FM transmitter car charger for iPod Touch 2nd Generation and iPod Nano 4th Generation Now

This transmitter seems slightly less powerful than the one it replaced (only slightly). The one I had before was a little black bullet looking thing, it seemed to come in a little clearer.

However, I bought this one for two reasons other than transmitting:

Pros:

a. it charges my Nano 4th generation

b. it remembers the last channel it was on

Cons:

a. the cord is not very long (making it limited for routing wires for holders)

b. it seems to distort at higher volumes (tried different EQ settings)

c. it sticks out over either of my cup holders (making the cup holder hard to use) 05 Tacoma

d. volume only controllable by stereo (minor issue)

All in all it does what it claims, but I have yet to find the ultimate FM transmitter.

I will most likely replace it when I can find one that can charge my Nano, remember at least one channel, sound good at higher volumes, and have wires or a harness that are easily routable.

I bought this for my wife's 4th gen Nano, it works great, sound quality is better than any other fm transmitter Ive heard. Fits the power output neatly(unlike some that shuts off by the slightest touch), it remembers last station used, is discrete/low-key(looks like a cell car charger). Sound quality is probably as good as it gets from a compact fm transmitter/charger, does highs and lows very good, with only a barely noticeable static in the background if you max the volume. Only downside is the short cable, plus the lcd display can be tricky to view depending on where your DC power plug is, otherwise highly recommended.

Want LCD FM transmitter car charger for iPod Touch 2nd Generation and iPod Nano 4th Generation Discount?

Update 5/25: I previously rated this item with 4 stars, but on my long car drive up north, when I REALLY needed this device, it failed. It quit charging my iPod Touch so I had no music for the second day of driving. Torture. I will see about returning this unreliable shady piece of junk.

I got this for Christmas. It is really simple to use dial in the frequency you want. My wife's Monster setup I bought for her a few years back has 8 pre-set frequencies. She is having problems finding a clear frequency in our major metro area, so being able to choose your own frequency will be handy. Two big shortcomings: 1) it came in a baggie, with no instructions, no nothing. Totally unprofessional. Totally shady. Very not-Amazonian. It's like someone bought it off a roadside vendor in Shanghai and shipped it to me. No instructions, no warranty, no nothing. Also, 2) the form-factor makes it difficult to plug into the cigarette lighter plug. The wideness of the body was too close to the plug so I fought with it until I could turn it sideways to make it fit. I could definitely see for some cars that this won't work. The plug should be longer to accomodate all vehicles. So have a Plan B.

Other than those shortcomings, it works great. The plug cable is long enough so I can charge the iPod and put it in my dashboard cubby. It charges fine and plays music decently over my speakers.

As far as FM transmitters go, this one is the best I've had yet for the price. I spent on my firs one (a Griffin) only to have it crap out on me 6 months later. My second (another Griffin, but only ) similarly only lasted about six months. Only time will tell how long this one will last, but for the price, I'm a lot more willing to buy something only lasting 6 months.

I specifically bought this one because I hoped it would charge my 2nd generation iPod Touch, which it does.

As far as sound quality goes, it's not better than any other FM transmitter I've had, but it fulfills its purpose and I can hear my music with minimal static.

Universal Wireless 12V 12 Volt Electric Winch Remote Control System Kit Car Auto Automotive Truck PicktruckThis product did not work with my winch as stated. The directions were very unclear. Very cheap quality. I would NOT recommend this for anyone.

WE PURCHASED TWO OF THESE , 1ST. ONE INSTALLED 3 MONTHS AGO USED IT TWICE & IT STOPPED WORKING.

INSTALLED THE 2N ONE GOT IT ALL HOOKED UP, USED IT ONCE & TODAY I NEEDED IT AND IT WOULD NOT WORK.

BATTERY CHECKED OUT OK, POWER WAS OK, BUT THE WINCH WOULD NOT WORK.

NOW WE ARE ON HARBOR FREIGHT AMAZON LOOKING FOR A REALLY GOOD ONE WITH LOTS OF + FEED BACK.

Simply brilliant, easy to use, very bright and visible in daytime or nighttime. I bought this kit last week and installed it without reading the 1 page included instruction since I am a handyman by heart. I only glanced at the pictures in the instructions for few seconds.

This laser kit works every time I open or close the garage door. Ordered one more for my dad's upcoming birthday. Hopefully I get it in time.

Pros:

Very visible and bright green laser day or night.

Stays on as long as the garage opener light stays on, usually few minutes for me.

Cons:

Instructions could use more pictures.

I just received this kit today. After reading other reviews listed here, I was looking forward to getting it installed. The included screw in AC adapter would not work on my opener (older model Craftsman). It appears the socket is too deep and too close the the opener itself for this adapter to work. I tried another one that I already had, and it too would not work. I don't think anything other than a light bulb will work in my opener.

The lasers in this kit must get their power from the opener light in order to work properly, so it looks like I will have to look elsewhere. I also noticed the little plastic clips that are supposed to hold the lasers are really flimsy and nothing like the pictures on here. One of the 2 in my kit was already broken. That was disappointing given the price of this kit. I'm sure the lasers are good quality, but for the price I would expect the entire kit to be of good quality.

I was a bit skeptical if this product would a) Work during the day b) Be consistent because I have a very small garage c) Hold up to cold climates.

So far so good. I will come back to review again if something changes, but as of right now, it works as advertised.

This works great. My wife was always hitting the shelves in my garage and I thought I would give this product a try. The setup was pretty simple and I like the fact that it didn't require batteries. It pretty much does what it's supposed to so no real complaints. I'll update the review if any changes.

Pretty awesome parking system, easy to install, very bright (can see it while using it during the day)! Im very happy with the purchase and would recommend it.

HTC Wildfire Combo Rapid Car Charger + Home Wall Charger + USB Data Charge Sync Cable for HTC WildfireWas really happy about that. Great price and so convenient having a separate car and house charger. The computer cord let me upload pics to my laptop as well. Great deal!

And for the price that is great. I assume someone somewhere got paid only 1 cent to manufacture these products.
