The Power Pack just didn't fit, but it was not cost-effective to return it.

However, I could use the TomTom Live Charger. But after about a month of light usage (2-3 times) the metal frame around the pins of the connector to the car charger got stuck in the TomTom. I managed to remove the frame and replace it on the connector. I carried needle-nosed pliers with the charger just for this purpose. I seldom used the TomTom in that vehicle so it wasn't a big problem

I was at a critical time on a trip to TX when the entire front part of the connector fell apart (after about a dozen uses). Since the electric charger never fit I couldn't use it with my inverter in the car. And since the decent car charger was in my other car in GA, I had to think long and hard for a way to use the TomTom on this important trip.

Lessons learned: First lesson--complain long and hard immediately if it doesn't work and you care about throwing away your money. Second lesson--don't depend on a wonky piece of cr** for anything important.

Third lesson--this could have ruined the GPS, so not only was it a piece of junk but it could take a much more expensive piece of equipment with it. The first time the metal frame got left behind in the TomTom would have ruined it for many users. However the second time one of the tiny pins from the crud connector could have stuck in the TomTom and made it inoperable.

I voiced these complaints to CellPower.com, but they reasonably refused to offer any satisfaction since it has been 16 months since the purchase. So I can only fault the vendor with selling crud.

I bought a TomTom about 2 years ago I only used it to go up to my cousins house a few times a year since I typically had to stop for gas and tomtom has excellent POI. After 3 uses the manufacters included cords broke and I didn't want to call them up and pay 25 dollars for a new car charger. I found this on amazon for a couple bucks and bought it. It has held up much better than the original cord. The only complaint I have is the cord is a bit short so when I have the Tomtom on the windshield dock the cord is stretched and barely able to reach.

Good cord.....Too bad my cousin moved much closer and I never use my TomTom anymore!

I really like the fact that I have power if I ever get in a bind, but I wouldn't use this as an everyday car charger for iphone or any usb device simply because it is too noisy. The fan is pretty loud. However, the power outlet works like a charm and I've been able to charge my laptop perfectly whenever it runs out on the road. Happy with what I got it for. This power inverter was great for the price, less than 25 bucks but bad for noise. If your like me and the noise from the engine on an airplane puts you to sleep, then this inverter is not for you. The inverter's fan is quiet loud, not as loud as a hair dryer but close enough. I would guess-a-mate that its as loud as a laptop fan if you put your ear on it.

The item arrived promptly and was in an excellent condition (sent by Speed Shop). The unit has been working fine for about a month now. I installed it myself and the installation was not so complicated (if you HAVE experience and read the instructions carefully). The range of this remote starter has surpassed my expectations, although the distance might not be as the manufacturer claims. You can be two or three blocks away and still use the remote successfully. In open space it works from a much longer distance of course. The features of the unit are abundant; I only needed the remote start and keyless entry. It has the option to switch between automatic and manual transmission cars. Recently I had to relocate the antenna away from the metal body of the car because the range of operation dropped substantially. I is much better now and I hope it stays like so. The remotes that come with the system are very nice. However, they look very vulnerable. They should be protected by a case or something because if they die or get broken I don't think there would be a replacement. I have tried another system recently but it worked only when I was standing next to the car (there is no point/useless): Returned. This one is so much better; yet, only time will tell if it is really durable and reliable. I would absolutely recommend the item as well as the seller.

Update 8/9/2012

The remote starter operates inconsistently in hot weather. Especially when the engine is warm, the unit keeps starting and shutting the engine off repeatedly and keeps it on after two to three starts! However, this problem may be related to the set up of the unit (but it may not).

Koolatron 28-Quart Soft-Sided Electric Travel Cooler, Black

I will preface this review with this caveat: Auto coolers are not refrigerators. They will keep cold things cold, with help.

My husband drives a truck for 12-16 hours per day. He never stops, so I pack his lunch every day. He carries water, energy drinks, veggies, sandwiches, sometimes pizza, etc. He used a Rubbermaid cooler for a long time, but it was too small. He needed a larger cooler that would fit between the seats of the truck and have more space.

This cooler is HUGE. They make two smaller ones, but since I like to load it up with big ice packs, it's a good size. It'll never actually be full unless we take a trip with it, though. 2 liter bottles stand up in it and I'm guessing that six of them would fit. I load it up with 2 1.5 liter water bottles, a couple of 16 oz lowcarb Monster drinks, plus a sandwich, cherry tomatoes fruit and other snacks and the cooler is still about half full even with the two large blue ice bags.

The Koolatron does the job nicely. It will not cool warm things down well and if left on its own, cold things will start to warm up after 8-10 hours, so I put 2 large blue ice bags in the cooler every morning and they come back at night still partially frozen. Any leftover drinks are still cold.

I also purchased the power inverter so that I could plug in the cooler first thing when I get up. I then load the cooler and the ice bags right before he leaves. That helps considerably.

Is the cooler keeping things at 40*? Doubtful, but it's keeping them cold enough that drinks are refreshing and his food does't spoil. He keeps the AC on in the truck all the time, so the cooler doesn't have to work too hard.

A soft sided cooler like this isn't as effective as a hardsided cooler, so there's a bit of a tradeoff, but it's the largest one I could find that would fit where it needed to go (between the seats of a Peterbilt Daycab after removing the drink holders) and it's lightweight. The shoulder strap makes it easy to carry. By the time I load it down with a couple liters of water, drinks, ice and use the bungee on top for his paperwork, it weighs about 30 pounds or so. A hard cooler would be impossible.

The outside pockets are handy, you can even put ice in the drink holder (which will only hold a cup the diameter of a soda can). There's a mesh pocket in the back that's also very handy.

Overall, we're very pleased with this cooler, but unlike the another reviewer, our expectations were more realistic.

Great cooler, just remember to chill your products, and a blue chill block (couple of bucks at wally world etc) helps also. Put a weeks worth of sandwich fixin's in and the stuff was still cold a week later. Easy to transport, and just the right size for one person.

I got this cooler in Late Jan 2011. I took it on a cross country trip even through West Tx, NM and AZ. This cooler kept our items cool and we made sandwiches along the way. I just got back from a trip where I did not have a refrigerator in the hotel room. I took mine in with cream for coffee, cheese and beefstick for late night sandwiches. I plugged it in (with the optional powerpack) and everything was still cold. I added a room temperature soda can on day two and by the time I got home the soda can was cold. I also had cold packs in this refrigerator and they were cold enough to ease sore muscles.

I also put all my items in this cooler cold and add an ice pack.

I just got back from a trip where I was driving all day. I packed my cold items in the cooler and put a pillow of ice on top. The ice pillows I refreeze each night when I am in a hotel that has a freezer. Most days I was driving 10-12 hours. I place the cooler in the back of my SUV and plug it in. I place light colored fabric on top to reduce the solar effect. Most of the driving days were 95-100 degrees. My food arrived cold and some of it was still frozen as I brought frozen food with me to eat at night and the ice pillows were still partially frozen. I will be going to Fl in a couple weeks and will be taking my cooler with me. It is doing a great job for me.

I purchased this cooler along with it's electric adapter. I love it. I've used it in work to keep my lunch cold (the adapter allows you to plug it into an outlet) and it's just like putting my lunch in a refrigerator. You can also plug it into you car's cigarette lighter (which we did on a trip) and that works great also.

We got this cooler due to its larger size, soft-sidedness, and cooling capability. We have two young kids and we do several family road trips, so we thought it would be a good fit for long journeys, especially keeping juice, milk, string cheese, etc. cool enough throughout the day. While technically the cooler worked, it could have been a lot better, and it really isn't worth the hassles or price for what it delivers.

Having read other reviews, here's what I agree with:

There's a difference between refrigeration and "cooling"

The cooler is quite large

Using this cooler did indeed keep items a bit colder than if we hadn't used the cooling function

However, these agreements don't cover the negatives.

While the item fits on the floor in front of the rear seat in our SUV, the fan is awfully noisy, and pushes out a bit of heat.

The durability and construction is questionable, as a few of the zipper pulls broke on its maiden voyage. We ended up using bent paper clips for the rest of the trip.

the side pockets don't offer enough elasticity to allow much more than paper, cards, or possibly a rigid string cheese stick

when testing prior to departure, the cooler struggled to keep the internal temperature below 66 degrees, even though items came from the fridge, and the house thermostat was set at 76.

After two days, the warm exhaust and droning noise in-vehicle were too much, so we unplugged it and used it as a soft-sided conventional cooler for the remainder of our trips. The cooling unit took up interior space, and the odd exterior pockets weren't useful, and the aforementioned zipper issue made using it less satisfactory than if we had picked up a different cooler for half the price (not even including the adapter).

Bottom line: we're hoping to get $15 at our next garage sale for it (including adapter). A bit of a waste.

Schumacher BT-100 100 amp Battery Load Tester

This device is a carbon pile load tester.

A carbon pile load tester works by applying a calibrated load to the battery (the load is essentially a large carbon resistor that heats up when voltage is applied).

To properly test using this method, the battery must be at least 75% charged. A good battery should be able to supply half its cold cranking amps (CCA) rating for 15 seconds without dropping below 9.5 volts (if you want to test batteries that are not fully charged you'll need to purchase an electronic tester which tests by measuring the internal resistance of the battery.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: This unit (by design) will get hot and might initially produce some smoke if there is any foreign matter on the resistor element.

Remember, this unit is a carbon pile testerin other words, uses a thick carbon resistor to apply a heavy load across the battery terminals to load test the battery. Works flawlessly from the first, and I use this unit daily in my lawnmower shop it is a huge time-saver over "test by elimination" methods, and has successfully tested several dozen batteries and going strong. As long as unit is maintained (keep it clean and in a toolbox where dust won't settle on the carbon resistors) you'll be happy to have this unit in your shop. If you leave it out or splatter oil on it, obviously it will smoke as the debris burns off from the hot carbon pile resistor.

It does not test a discharged battery (but if a 12V battery does not have 12 volts, even after charging, it's obviously bad) but a quick charge from a charger and a quick, very brief load test to burn off surface charge easily lets me know whether to continue charging the battery or condemn it right away.

For a small shop that does not need the advanced features of a resistance circuit computerized battery tester, this unit is well worth the investment. (we use different procedures for charging system testing, depending on the equipment being serviced, so it is not always possible to test these charging systems we work with with an advanced computerized unit, so.. )

Only complaint I have with this unit is the cables are maybe a little short, and quite stiff. It'd be nicer if the cables at least had more flexibility to them, or were about 6 to 10 inches longer some places it is a little clumsy to hook it on to the battery, while holding up the tractor seat at the same time, and other places the battery is slightly recessed. smaller clamps to fit in tight spots, and more flexible cables, and this unit would be *perfection*

Besides checking batteries on my car and truck I have several other deep cycle batteries for RV and other purposes. This unit provides an easy and quick way to know if the batteries are healthy and expected to last awhile. Yes, the tester did smoke slightly during it's first use, but it's expected to 'burn in' when new, like a muffler on a new car. The BT-100 looks and feels like a quality piece of equipment, is handy to have around and a good buy from Amazon.

I purchased one of these from Amazon about a month ago. My issue...I have an on-board battery charger in my bass boat, so I simply plug in from a remote plug and end up not checking/maintaining my three boat batteries as often as I should. So, when I went to use the boat the first time this year, I did check the water level in my starting battery and found it low (below the top of the plates). I had charged it to put away last year, but wasn't sure if I should trust it this year. So I ordered this, followed the instructions to load test the battery, and found it good. Without this, I would have probably just bought a new battery "to be safe". So save one battery. I have also used it to test the JD lawn tractor battery, the battery for my wood splitter, my trolling motor batteries, and both my vehicle batteries. I also keep a couple spare 12v batteries. One tested bad, so I could dispose of that, otherwise I may have just had that sitting around and kept trying to keep it periodically topped off with a 2A trickle charger.

So, I figure it has already paid for itself, and I'm a light user. Now my brother can check his batteries too. Yes, I recommend!

This item is very well constructed,however. It doesn't fit the Tom Tom 1535-TM as they indicate. Should have known that a 4.3 case can't hold a 5 inch GPS. DUH!!!! I only gave two stars since i haven't been able to use it, but it seems very well constructed.

Sierra Tools Battery-Operated Liquid Transfer Pump, Model# JB5684

I decided to take a chance with this product after running all over town to find something like it. Since I live in "hurricane country" the need to transfer gasoline for use in generators, etc is present all the time. I store the gas for my generator in 5 gallon cans, which when full, are very heavy. I was skeptical, but it worked better than I expected. It took me about 4-5 minutes to pump 2.5 gallons into my generator tank. I did not have to lift the can and did not risk spilling gas. Since it is battery powered it can be used when the power is out. All in all, I would recommend it for the average home user as long as it's not for heavy duty use.

This item works as described and is exactly what I need. The new gas tanks purchased from CA are, as you likely know, horrible on the environment, your back, and the gas bill. This item lets me pump the gas without spilling fuel all over. It pumps about 5 gallons in five-ten minutes. Not speedy, but it is reasonable and gives me time to tend to other matters. (I pump two 5 gal tanks onto my boat right at my dock.)

The hose included is cheap material, so be prepared to buy a higher quality and longer hose. (3/4 inside dia. with a hose clamp. 5' is what I have.) Also unless this pump is exactly upright it will leak a little through the vent hole, not a big deal, just set it well and you're good.

It is simple construction so I expect it will last quite a while. The parts are lightweight and seem a little cheap, otherwise it'd get 5 stars.

I have a bad back, and it has been difficult to fill the gasoline tank on my lawn tractor and generator when gas can is nearly full. Even not full, it requires holding the tank at an odd angle. I did not have high expectations for this, but thought it would be worth a try.

The answer after my first try: It exceeded all expectations. The flow was fast enough to fill my tank in a minute or so (maybe less), but slow enough to feel easily controllable. The plastic outlet tube has a couple of places where it can bend easily without crimping (a bellows kind of arrangement like a kids bendy-straw). The switch is conveniently located on the top of the handle. When you turn off the switch the flow stops quickly and both the outlet hose and the 'wand' in the tank drain quickly. When I took it out of the tank, there were no drips, though not surprisingly it still smelled of gas. (I left it outside in the sun for a while and then stored it in a sheltered, but outside location.)

I half expected it to say "not for flammable liquds" or something. It did warn about not using it for paint thinner, but it is pretty explicit about being ok for gasoline. Note that the pump impeller is at the bottom of the wand that sticks in the gas tank, and the motor, switch, and batteries at the top so the electrical stuff is fairly far from the gasoline.

One possible caveat: They warn not to pump to a level higher than the top of the wand. I'm not sure why that is. I don't imagine that pump has ALL that much lift It was ok for my tractor, but I'm not sure if it will be for the generator. Another thing, when I put the gas can on the ground beside the tractor (actually in a little wagon so I can wheel the gas can out), the clear hose was just long enough to reach. I expect you could extend it but then you have to worry about a leaking splice.

Caution: I would guess that if you were pumping from a higher place to a lower place, you could start a siphon that would not stop when you turned off the switch. I would also not recommend using it the way it is shown in the picture, holding the tank with one hand and the hose with the other (and not holding the wand). The wand is a bit top heavy with the batteries in the top (2 D-cells) plus I want my hand on the switch at all times. I put the tank on a little cart that lifted it high enough to use.

So if is not for everything. Like one of the reviewers says, it is NOT for pumping out of a car gas tank. You need a long straight shot into the tank you are pumping from. The bendy-plastic pipe is for the outlet side. However, with all the cautions, it is exactly what *I* wanted, hence the 5-star rating.

Update December 2009: Ok, I now know why you should not pump to a place higher than the pump...apparently something above the outlet for the plastic tubing is not sealed, so if the tubing outlet is higher, it can leak. The leak runs down the suction pipe, not all over the place, but it is still disconcerting.

I still like this unit...you just have to follow the directions.

Oh, and btw, if you look at the review it says the product is not available. It is, if you search for it by name. And this review is there too. Odd.

Ah, what hopes we all have for a bargain. And most anything under $10 is just that. And yet... and yet... along comes the JB4840 Battery Operated Liquid Transfer Pump. Now, we live out in the hinterlands of Georgia don't get much more hinter than this and we needed something simple to, well, transfer liquids... fuel a small tractor, remove water from the catch basin around the old Christmas tree. Ol' JB arrives... works for 3 minutes... we put it away, our new and treasured bargain... we take it out for its big presentation to Georgian mechanized society... she don't work no more. Tested on 1997 Ford Taurus, 1999 Jeep Wrangler, 1999 Chevy Trailblazer(Blazer), works perfect. I even tried the Ford Extended PID's with my Taurus and it works 100%. Range is what is to be expected for Bluetooth, with my car doors closed I can walk away about 20-25 feet and maintain a perfect data stream. Not a single time-out or drop-out of the bluetooth connection to my Samsung Galaxy S (SCH-i500). I am more than impressed with this "Cheap China Elm327 Clone" that is so often warned about being incompatible with the genuine ELM327 Standard. It is the smallest unit I have came across, once plugged into the car it doesn't get in the way of your feet. I have had mine for about 4 days now and have left it plugged into a vehicle the whole time, battery drain seems nonexistent, though I wouldn't let the car sit with it plugged in for more than 2 weeks or so.

UPDATE Oct 15 2012: I was so happy with my first unit that came from Brainydeal that I decided to order 8 more. Those 8 came from a company called Patazon, NONE of the units worked and after further investigation, the units from Patazon were completely different internals even though they looked the same on the outside until you look closely. You get what you pay for. This unit worked fine for two weeks and then became increasingly buggy and finally died on day 26. The CD can't be read by my Windows 7 PC. I am going to pay a little bit more for reliability next time.

to my surprise recieved remote quicker than i expected!! i have a 2001 toyota tacoma prerunner and had my backup remote stolen, so was looking for a replacement. this remote looks exactly like the old one and was cheap($16) so i went with it. programming was a lil tricky, but got my arm/disarm channel set, and my unlock all doors channel set too. the only last channel i could not get right was the channel for 30 sec headlight activation...but overall im happy with it! the main stuff works thats all that matters in the end!!

Had to download the instructions from the Audiovox site. Would have been nice if they'd been included, but it wasn't a big deal. Love that it came with a battery already inside. I'd tried to take it apart to install one until I realized, by accidentally pushing the button, that it was already in there.

Programming was a little tricky at first. Took me two attempts. The second time, the alarm went off on my car and I realized the programming was successful when I pushed the button on the remote and it chirped and turned my alarm off. Apologies to my neighbors. Then I tested the remote by pushing it on and off a few times to make sure it was finally programmed.

This remote has great range, like my old ones used to have before they wore out. Now I don't have to push the button a dozen times in exactly the right position in order to unlock my car. And the price was better than on other sites. Hopefully this one will last until I decide to replace my car.

This particular FM transmitter is very unimpressive. The seller provides no instruction as to how to use the device, so you kind of have to figure it out as you go. Also, it is not very easy to change the FM station on the transmitter. The buttons that allow you to scroll left and right do not work consistently. Also, you have to get extremely close to the radio in order for the transmitted signal to be heard and it is of very poor quality. Also, there is a great deal of static noise.

I bought two sets of these headphones. I figured that I'd have to sink them to get them to work in our vehicle but once I installed the batteries and turned them on they worked right away. The only thing that I don't like is that they don't automatically turn off by themsleves after a period of time. This means that if the users (which in my household are young children) don't turn them off the batteries run down after only one use.

I've had a Punch amplifier in my car for years, and always thought it was a bit lacking.

This amplifier has been a wonderful upgrade, it has significantly more power than what it replaced. Installation was straightforward as the car was already wired for the old amplifier. I'm not sure I would have been able to run the cable from my battery to the unit myself, so consider installation costs if you aren't too handy..

Sonically, this amplifier was a very nice upgrade. The bass in clearer and louder than my old amplifier. It didn't take long to get it properly adjusted, and sounding great. So no complaints here, it sounds great, looks great, and dropped right in for me.

This was installed in a Chevy Suburban, and it sounds good! Nice, solid bass, but doesn't shake the truck (or the neighborhood). Clean bass requires power, and this has that. Getting power to run it required a direct, fused lead to the battery, and then it was pretty easy. I am running two 12" woofers, and getting no discernible distortion. I took off one star because it gets pretty warm.

Lets be serious. No one that would buy this amp is messing around. Only hardcore car audio fanatics (like me) would choose something this slamming to power their bass section. As it should be.

I've tried (and blown!) dozens of amps over the years. This one really gets the job done. I'm currently using it to ruin my eardrums via a 12" Crunch sub, mounted in a box in a Dakota club cab. The air pressure that the sub produces is prodigious, and this amp HITS HARD.

In addition, its really beautiful, and the metal work is meticulous and clean. It looks like its quality and feels like it too. Hifonics is in the same product group that brings us Crunch, Maxxsonics, Quart and others. I usually like most of their things, and this one is no exception. Pounding, just pounding.

From what I can tell, this is a pretty solidly built amplifier and it looks like it will hold up fairly well. The case is not completely metal and includes chromed plastic, and that is of slight concern, as the housing with the holes used to fasten the amplifier to the your cabinet or car floor is made of plastic. I am not sure why they decided not to make the end caps out of metal, but I hope that the plastic end caps will be durable. Barring the plastic, this amplifier certainly feels very solid.

The amplifier has a pretty nice control set that will allow you to tune your subs fairly well from the amplifier end. The subsonic filter will allow you to cut frequencies below a certain point, keeping you from wasting power on reproducing frequencies that you do not need; this setting goes from 15Hz to 35Hz. There is, as there should be, a low pass filter as well, that will allow you to filter out all frequencies above your desired crossover point.

There is also a bass EQ setting that I personally do not recommend using, as it boosts your bass and can cause not only muddy, overly-bassy sound, but it can also cause your speakers to extrude further than they should, causing voice coil damage. In addition to this, there is a remote volume boost control box that allows you to remotely change the volume of your amplifier. I do not recommend this either, as it is no substitute for proper system setup and you will be arbitrarily adjusting the bass response. Some might not be as concerned with proper flat frequency response as I am, so this might actually be a positive for some.

I would suggest setting the system up with a real-time frequency analyzer to ensure that you get a flat frequency response and do no go overboard with booming bass. Just because you can doesn't mean that you should. When properly tuned, this amplifier can add the proper reproduction of low end frequencies to your system and give you a great sounding setup.

A wiring diagram is provided for those who are not familiar with series-parallel, parallel-parallel, series, or parallel wiring. THIS IS VITAL INFORMATION TO ANYONE WIRING THEIR SUBWOOFERS. If you do not know how to figure resistance properly, PLEASE refer to their chart, as it will show you how to wire your speakers to get the proper ohm rating.

Another note: if you display your amplifiers, you will like this one, as it has an illuminated blue logo across the top and it glows blue when it is on.

I purchased this to charge my Sansa mp3 player on my vacation last weekend, and it worked great! Plug one end into the wall and plug the other into the mp3 player, it begins charging right away. I'm not sure of the exact charge time needed, as I charged it overnight in the hotel room, but it worked beautifully for me. Also, you can actually use the mp3 player while it charges with this product, something you cannot do if you are charging from a USB port on your computer.

I found it inconvenient to charge my Sansa MP3 player from my laptop (the laptop goes on power save if I'm not using it and then decharges vs charges the Sansa) or my desktop (I don't really use it anymore and it's a waste of electricity to turn it on just to charge the Sansa). This little inexpensive charger is convenient and charges the Sansa in less time than a computer. I subtracted 1 star because the adapters do not plug directly into the Sansa. You need to have the original charging cord used with the computer. You plug the original cord into the Sansa and then into the charger and then plug it into the wall. I don't think the product description included you need the original charging cord and I'm glad I still had mine. I've had the charger for several months now and it works very well.

Kat's 24050 50 Watt 2"x 5" Universal Hot Pad Heater

I purchased a used sailboat with a small diesel engine (Yanmar 1GM10) that was always hard to start. After cranking for the better part of a minute, the engine would fire ... and backfire from all of that fuel that the mechanical injection system put into it. Boat "experts" recommended expensive repairs, such as injector replacement, and I finally stopped at my local Kabota tractor shop. A knowledgeable person recommended an oil-pan heater, so I bought this product (they were out of stock on that seasonal item, but Amazon had it to me in 2 days).

Anyway, the engine holds 1.5 qt of oil, which is appropriate for a 50 60 W unit. This 2 x 5-in pad fit my oil pan perfectly. Installation took about 10 min to sand off the paint, wipe it down with alcohol, and stick on the self-adhesive pad. I went to the boat the next day, and it turned right over ... and it has ever since.

For less than $20.00, I have an engine that starts well every time. The other benefit is that it keeps the oil above about 110 deg F, so the wear on the cold engine will be greatly reduced, with longer life expected. For that reason alone, this heater would be worth the cost. BTW, my monthly electric charge at the marina is $0.05/kW-hr, so it costs less than $2.00/mo to run it continuously. If you are even considering such a small investment, stop worrying and get it. You won't be sorry.

Ever since Dishnetwork "upgraded" me to the new eastern arc dish I was having signal loss problems whenever it snowed. In order to pick up three satellite feeds with one dish they had to make this dish much larger and it also points at a higher angle to the sky. Unfortunately that also makes it a one big snow collector. After a lot of research I decided to give these little babies a try. I installed two of these heaters with the self-adhesive backing and then sealed the edges with hi-temp RTV. After wiring in a switched outdoor electrical outlet, all I have to do now is flip a switch in my house to melt the snow off of my dish. In a matter of 5 minutes my signal is right back up in the normal range on all three satellite feeds. You can go ahead and spend $100 or more on those fancy dish heaters if you want to. Or, be like me and save yourself a ton of money by just getting two of these. I've read other reviews where people say they don't stick well. I haven't had that problem. I lightly sanded the installation areas on the back of the dish with very fine sandpaper and made sure it was clean and dry. They have been on my dish for a year now and show no signs of degradation.

Used 50 watt heating pads on my sat dish to keep snow from building up. Works great! Used 2 because dish is long and narrow. Placed one on each side. Only use them when snow builds up and blocks signal. Clears dish quickly and reagains signal. An absolute necessity when looking at satelites directly overhead when dish can fill with snow.

I use this pad heater attached to the engine block of a small diesel generator. Even in 10-20 degree weather it heats the engine to 50 degrees which allows it to start effortlessly. The quality is excellent and I'm VERY glad that its made in USA.

I came across good reviews from others that like myself, were looking for a satellite dish snow removal system that would keep the dish clear of snow and also cost a lot less than the $132.00 system advertised as the one that would fit my DirecTV HD-dish.

An EXCELLENT purchase!!!! For a total of about $60 I now have a system that stops the chore of going out to brush off the dish of snow! Very happy so far. I bought the two of these hot pads and locally found a temperature sensitive plug. As I only need this set up in the winter I have the two cords plugged into a multi-plug 3 way plug and these are in turn stored in a weather PROOF plastic outside electrical box that no moisture has penetrated ( a LOT of rain and some snow so far) and then to an outdoor winter rated extension cord to the very nearby storage building with the power in it and then to the temp controlled power plug that's on at about 30 and off at 40.

As we usually get several feet of snow in this area but haven't yet, I was concerned that even with the temp plug it might be getting the metal dish itself too hot on the places I put these peel and stick heat pads on. I checked with a infrared temperature thermometer and was releaved to find that the combined 100 watts of power on these units was translating to a temp of 45 on the dish with an ambient temp of 30. So very happy all the way around! Also a nice spread on the wide dish as I thought I might have to get a third heat pad to make it all work right but it does as is.

At least my dish is set low enough that I can reach it with a long broom, if we had the dish on the house, this would be the ONLY way to go in the winter!!! Highly recommended for these little guys!!

UPDATE 12/21/2012

We've had quite a bit of snow, almost 2 feet in the last week with days of almost continuous light to moderate snowfall and the dish has consistently stayed clear of snow buildup on the dish. There has been some buildup on the arm the actual receiver sits on, but no disruption of the signal to the TV and no more manually cleaning the snow off the dish, VERY happy about that! And only 100 watts total draw works too.
