I received this as a gift a couple years ago, and it's going strong. I use it as a 12v source for special chargers that I use to charge the various types of batteries used in Radio Control airplanes and cars. I've used it in the sweltering heat of my garage in Central California, and in the cold of my garage in a much colder climate. I even dropped it once, and it's working great!

If I were to say there is a downside, it's that there's only one output pair. I rigged up a multiple output attachment that works fine for my needs. Two pairs of heavy duty binding posts and a project box from an electronic store plus some heavy wire and a couple banana plugs.

I am using this to power an aircraft instrument panel that I am building. It will eventually be installed into an airplane with great difficulty, so I want to get it right on the bench. And I need 20A of 12-14V.

This product fit the bill just fine.

I ordered on Sunday for two day delivery and expected it on Wednesday. It arrived Tuesday.

There isn't much to say about a power supply it is powerful, the ripple specs put it closer to a battery than an alternator powered aircraft or auto. (That's a good thing).

The only gripe is that the built in ammeter is a little on the cheap side. Digital would be great, but I didn't pay for digital. The needle is about 1/2 amp lower than the actual draw, as verified by a precision Fluke multimeter. I can live with that.

I have some great bench power supplies that cost several hundred dollars and have better features, but only put out 1/3 the power. So, all in all, this was a good fit for my application.

The Pyramid PS21kx is an excellent power supply. My wife is a HAM radio operator and I purchased the power supply so we could use her new Yeasu mobile 2 meter as a base station, and in this capacity, the Pyramid works very well. It's an extremely solid, hefty piece of equipment, and obviously very well consturcted. Haven't done any actual testing of the supply because I don't have the test equipment necessary, except to check the output voltage, which is spot on. I can tell you how it works in operation, though, and it has been flawless. Quiet, no noticiable humming noise as one often gets with less well made supplies. It handles the radio very well, even when she cranks the output power up to 75 watts. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who needs a fairly heavy duty, 12 volt power supply. HAM radio operaters who often need 12 volt power to operate mobile radios ought to serious look at this unit. Very wel made.

Quick overview:

There were I few things about this product that I was unable to determine from any of the extensive research I performed, but I knew that the basic functionalities met what I was looking for. I do like the dvd player and the picture is good. It is easy to install, even though I did have to make a few modifications in order to install it like I wanted. I ultimately decided on this item over the PYLE PLRD92(PYLE PLRD92 9" Flip Down Monitor and DVD player with Wireless FM Modulator/ IR Transmitter) mainly based off of the price at the time, and though I AM somewhat pleased with the TVIEW product, if I had the choice, I would go with the PYLE for many reasons. It was a good DVD player, which is why it received 4 stars, it's not a bad product... it's just not exactly what I wanted... Now on to the info:

INSTALL:

The instructions that came with the unit were horrible, they basically didn't help at all, but I was able to determine what wire were what from info I found on the net. One of the most helpful places was a forum call Acadiaforum.net.(you will have to join to see it, but here is an installation example ) A user there has detailed instructions on installing the PYLE, that were handy in making the TVIEW mount more sturdily to my Acadia. The mounting bracket with the TVIEW is slightly different than the PYLE's and was a bit more difficult to attach to the roof of the car. In my Acadia, I could easily remove the dome light between the sunroof and moonroof and have a perfect place for installing a DVD player. Since there is about a 2" space between the head liner of the car and the top of the car (actually a cross beam) I needed a piece of a 2" x 4" I had lying around as a spacer. I also had to purchase 4 metal/machine screws and drill 4 holes in the cross bar mentioned above to attach the metal mounting plate. After I did this, I noticed that the wires run out the back of the DVD player, this may not be a big issue for everyone, but I wanted the wires hidden. So, I drilled 2 holes in the metal backing that hides the wires on the dvd player (the opposite side from where the screen snaps in place and lights are seen). I used the rubber grommets on the newly drilled holes to prevent the wires from being cut over time. In my Acadia, there are 2 power wires, one has a constant power (used for turning the lights on when the car is off) and power when the doors open (this one is used to turn on the lights when the doors are opened). I used the later to hook up to the lights on the DVD player so they would work as the normal dome lights would. I used the constant power so that the DVD player could be run while the car was off if necessary. The Acadia has a safety feature that kills the power to this feed after 10 minutes to prevent battery drain, if something is drawing current, so I thought this would be perfect. However, I ran into an issue with the DVD player drawing just enough power while it was off to drain the battery slightly, but not drawing enough power to register on the computer of the Acadia to trigger the battery save feature. This resulted in a dead battery over the weekend. To get around this, I installed a rocker switch from an old dead power supply I had, and it works great for keeping my battery from dying. I have read different ways around this, 1) you can install a resistor to "trick" the computer into thinking there is a larger current being drawn while it's off or 2) you can ran power directly from the battery (I've read this prevents the battery drain for some reason, but can't remember why).

PERFORMANCE:

Memory Card playback...

This Does work pretty well, the resolution, I think, is 640x323, and it plays MP4s the best, but also supports some AVIs. The picture quality will largely depend on the quality of the MP4 etc, but is quite good for what I expected.

The biggest reason I was looking at this player and the PYLE mentioned earlier was the ability to play videos from a memory card. I had a few SD, micro SD (w/adapter), mini SD(w/adapter), and Memory stick pro duo (with Duo adapters) cards that I could switch out more easily than dvds (I thought). This player DOES NOT support SDHC cards, but I had a 8GB MS Pro Duo (magic gate) with a Duo Adapter that worked perfectly. Video playback from the cards works fine, and there are tons of options on the player to zoom in (if the video doesn't fill the screen) or to adjust the picture. However, One of the biggest things I do not like about the player is how it handles memory cards. The first thing I noticed was the SD card will stick out of the side of the screen half way, preventing you from closing the screen with the card inside. I kind of expected it to work like many laptops do, with there being a depression switch that requires to to push the card in to hear a click and have it eject. The Sony Memory stick card stuck out even further, I was very disappointed, but ate my disappointment because the videos played fine, you can even fast forward and rewind like normal (more than I can say for Windows Media Center 7 and MP4s... but I won't go there). The next thing I noticed that I did not like was the navigation to select videos to play. First of all, each time you stop playing the video from the card, it will start from the beginning and every time you start the player, you have to change the source to the card slot (not a HUGE deal, but why couldn't it remember what was last used?). One of the worst things about it is that the file or folder names (it does support folders by the way) are limited to 6 7 characters, barely enough to give a good description for our 3 year old to know which video she wants to watch. Yes, i said 3 year old, she is able to read, and I am not talking about memorizing words, I'm talking about sounding words out and reading ANYTHING... Not the point though, there is barely enough to tell which video you are selecting. I may have to get creative and number the videos and give her a list of what number is what video. Well, that is my biggest complaint about the video playback from memory card.

DVD Playback...

The DVD playback works quite well, and we use this as often as we can. I haven't tried burning MP4s to DVD, but have burned DVDs in its native format, and everything works very well. The thing I like best about this is that the DVD is the first thing that is checked when the player is turned on. If there is a DVD in and you turn the player on, it will read the disc and start playing. It also remembers your position, even if the power is cut off to the player. I don't have much else to say about DVD playback other than A-OK!!

Sound...

Ok, the speakers built into the DVD player are plenty loud (if they are not, it is likely the video you are playing...) but my wife and I did not like the fact that they project to the front of the Acadia as much as they did to the back, so we opted to do the FM transmitter as much as possible. Recently we went on an 8 hour (one way) trip using the FM transmitter, and ran into few issues. There were a few times we'd have to pause the video and switch the FM sources, due to interference, but over all it was pretty decent. When there is no interference, the sound is excellent, when there is the sound is very grating... kind of metalicy sounding. I remember reading where someone increased the length of the FM transmitter wire on the player(I think it was the little green wire in the bunch) to increase signal strength and prevent interference, but I can't find that info at this time. Having said that, yesterday we took a 30 minute trip and had interference the whole way, so it all depends on if the frequencies are being used as to whether or not you will appreciate the FM transmitter feature. I plan on hooking up the analog audio someday to prevent this issue in the future. The IR headphone option does show on the menu, so i know it exists on the player, but we did not purchase any and have not used this feature to date.

Final few odds and ends:

Ok, I know this is probably NOT a big issue for most, but the screen does NOT turn 180° from facing forward. The screen will face the left and right, but will not face the rearview mirror when installed. This is one of the many reason's i would like to have had the Pyle, the screen would turn to face the front. I didn't want this to watch anything, but to help start a video, or pause a video if the remote is dropped or something. We can do it now, but it is a lot more difficult that it would be if the screen would turn even another 10° or so. But it is not clear ANYWHERE that I read, so I thought I would inform you, the screen IS a 180° screen, but it's from left to right, the screen will not face the windshield when installed (probably for safety...).

The lights on the player are not very bright at all, and are the cylindrical type of light bulbs. You also will have to remove the DVD player and remove the metal backing in order to replace the bulbs if they ever burn out. The Pyle player had LEDs and are MUCH brighter from what I've seen... One of the other things I tried to determine was whether or not the 2 lights worked independently. I saw on some players there was one light button... This one and the Pyle player had 2, though I cannot speak for the Pyle, I know with this one the lights work together. You can push either button and both lights turn on/off...

Over all, this is a good DVD player with the option to use Memory cards in dire need, but I am somewhat disappointed based on my expectations from what I read from others.

Installed this last week in my 2008 Jeep Commander. It was a pretty easy install, minus dropping the headliner in my jeep which consumed most of my time.

The picture on the unit is very good! Also, like the FM Transmitter function to tune it into my Jeeps stereo. One small problem is I do get some interferance with the FM Transmitter when I am in the city or very built up areas. I have yet to try all the FM frequency's within its range yet. On a side note I spoke to my local stereo install shop and they stated they add length to the Antenna wire when they put it above the head rest and this corrects that issue. I will try that next. The unit also works perfect with the IR (Infa Red) headphones I purchased seperately. Also, I like the fact you can get these in multiple colors to match the interior of the car. Hey for $150 and a few hours to install very nicely, it can't be beat and looks nicer than some factory setups.

I would purchase again and do recommend this item.

We purchased this player for our Dodge Grand Caravan. We installed it ourselves (my husband is pretty mechanically inclined) and it was fairly hassle-free. We had to actually cut a hole in the headliner because the instructions suggest mounting it over your existing dome light, but in a GC it is too close to the second-row seats and we ended up installing it between the rear HVAC controls and the front ceiling console. You don't need a massive hole for installation and they provide everything you need, including wiring to hook it into an existing video system/sound system if you already have one. The IR works perfectly too we bought two sets of kid-sized wireless headphones and they work perfectly with the unit. The only issue is the vague instructions (they were obviously NOT written by an English-speaking person, and were not too clear), so unless you are pretty mechanically savvy, it is best to leave installation to a professional.

I have a Scion 2010 XB, and a two year old girl. I would say yes to anyone with a small SUV or smaller car, 9" is just right for those type of car size. Anything else then no for something bigger. Product works just fine, in that it charges my batteries, which it is supposed to do. I'll be honest, I have not tried the car adapter, and what with not being in the EU, I have not tried that one either. The only thing is that the wall adapter goes from a totally normal orange-ish light to kind of freaking out and flickering frantically back and forth between green and orange once the battery is charged. But maybe that's just something about my battery. Anyway, that indicates it's charged, and it works fine, so it's all good. (I'd probably give it four and a half stars if I could, because the flickering's a little weird, but since it doesn't affect its functionality, I'll go with five.)

At first, the red light charging indicator did not work in my car even though battery was getting charged. I thought the problem was with the indicator. But when powered on wall socket, the red light appeared. Then after subsequent uses, it started working properly in the car too. Could have given 4.5 but now that I don't have any problems with it, I will give a 5.

ScanTool 426101 OBDLink MX Bluetooth/OBD-II Scan Tool Interface

This Bluetooth powered OBD-II interface adapter has got to be one of the coolest products out there right now. It may be small in stature but it becomes a giant when coupled to a capable software solution such as the Android app "Torque Pro". I have used this device on three different occasions so far allowing me to successfully troubleshoot and clear those pesky "Check Engine" lights that won't get you past an emissions test. I was really impressed with the speed in which it retrieves the vehicle information including any freeze frame data available. Moreover, this tool is widely adaptable to function with other operating systems as well (i.e. Windows, Symbian). There is only one small problem I have ran into with this device. After you have poked around inside your vehicle's secret, dark digital bowels, monitored its sensors, fixed the problems and came away with a feeling like "YEAH!", it is too easy to forget unplug it and take it with you as there is no cord. But don't worry it will even shut itself off to avoid draining the vehicle battery.

A well built product that has worked flawlessly so far. Bluetooth connects quickly and reliably. The included ODBWiz software runs on Windows and for Android and you download ScanTool's free app. Both provide modest diagnostics and dashboard capabilities. For Android, I recommend Torque for $5. Torque works great with the code reader right out-of-the-box and has many nice interfaces. Nice for people with four gauge dashboards who want to see extra info such as Oil Pressure, Voltage, and Manifold Pressure.

No cons so far for this product. It is more expensive than the ELM 327 chip set code readers, but the STN1110 chip set is much faster and more powerful. The quality build, reliability, and included software make it a good deal.

This bluetooth adapter, though a little expensive, works very well. It includes good instructions and a simple scantool program. You can use with an android device such as a phone or tablet by installing an app. I use torque and It works very well. I really haven't had the time to try any of the other apps. The data stream from the adapter is very quick. Not quite real time like a professional scan tool, but very close. You can install the scan tool program that the tool comes with on a laptop with the included disc, or by downloading with the security key code. I have not yet had a chance to try the computer program with it. If you are a do-it-yourselfer you may be able to save a little money by using the obd link to aid in diagnosing yor vehicle. Just remember that it is not a substitute for a well trained and experienced diagnostic technician! Overall obd link mx seems to be a very good and well built adapter. No problems whatsoever. Very compact and the firmware is upgradeable which is unusual for similar adapters. Although it is a little expensive compared to other adapters, I definately recommend it.

I bought this scan tool based solely off of a response of the owner of the company to an individual that wrote what I perceived to be a bogus review. After reading the owners response, I could feel his passion for his product and his dedication to providing the highest quality product he could make. That being said I bought this from Amazon and it arrived two days later.

I wanted to use this scan tool with my Acer A500 Android Tablet. In the meantime before it arrived I went to the google store and bought Torque Pro, Dash Command, and OBD Link, the factory software. I loaded all of the software onto the tablet and before I had received the OBD Link MX. I noticed right off a problem with an intermittent wifi connection but couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with the wifi. In the meantime the scan tool arrived and I set about pairing it via bluetooth with my tablet. I also noticed that Amazon had shipped the package in an envelope that crushed the package. it was also missing the CD from the package. I plugged the OBD Link MX into my 1998 K2500 Suburban and immediately the data was not coming through to the Acer A500. It was late at night, I was tired, so I quit fooling around with it. I did though, shoot off a very short, terse, email to the OBD Link customer service, thinking I would get a response a week later if that. I was prepared to send it back to Amazon, but, by the time I was ready to crawl into bed, lo and behold there was an email reply from the OBD Link Customer Service and I thought to myself, WOW, I have never had an email response so quick. I read it and it took me a couple of days before I could try out the suggestions. It took three more email exchanges over a week to finally resolve the issue. The slowness of figuring out the problem was on my end. It took me a bit of time to finally get out to my Suburban and try something new that Customer service had suggested. I honestly think that if I had been on top of things, all of these email exchanges could have been done in less than a couple of hours. The OBD Link Customer Service was just that fast. They also sent me a replacement CD that I received just a couple of days later.

The solution was that the Torque Pro software was ruining the bluetooth and wifi connections. Dash Command didn't work either. But you can bet your bottom dollar that after I uninstalled the Torque Pro software the OBD Link software worked perfectly.

Bottom Line is that a measure of a company is not how they perform when things go well, it is inevitably judged how they perform when there is a problem.

I give the OBD Link MX an A+ rating, but more importantly I give the OBD Link MX Customer Service an A+++++ rating. They were just that good. I really like companies like this. Unfortunately there aren't many like them that are so customer oriented.

VIAIR 90P Portable Compressor

I'm very impressed by the performance of the 90P Viair compressor. I originally had wanted to buy the 70P Viair compressor because it was cheaper and because it has the car accessory plug-in (instead of the alligator clips), but both my cars has a 10amp accessory fuse and I did not want to take the risk of blowing them every time I used the compressor (I believe the 70P has a 14 amp draw). This led me to consider either the Masterflow, or the MV50, because of their reviews in Amazon. After reading many reviews later, I decide against both of them, mainly because I wasn't very keen on the screw-on air chuck and the coil spring hose. I wanted the snap-on chuck and didn't want to have to stretch a hose to get to a tire. Plus, I noticed that if the hose is attached to the farthest tire, the gauge would wind up being on other end of the car since it's attached to the compressor. I know these are small inconveniences, but for me, I wanted easy on, easy off, no pulling, and the tire gauge by the tire. The 90P looked to have what I wanted plus I thought it looked sturdier and well built. The price of the 90P was a little more than I wanted to pay but the reviews I read convinced me to give it a shot

I have a couple of tires with slow leaks that I haven't had a chance to bring in to fix. I was amazed at how fast it pumped up my tires from about 25lbs to 32lbs (both tires in about 1 min. each). I also topped off all four of my sister's tire in a few mins. The attached air gauge was just as accurate as my hand held gauge, and the bleeder valve on the chuck is definitely a plus. I know I probably won't be using the compressor as much, once I fix my tires, but WOW, you really get what you paid for. Not only is this fast, it quiet. I'm sure the Masterflow and the MV50 performance are probably comparable based on their reviews, but overall, I'm very happy with my choice. I have two other compressors which I paid about $25 for and they are twice as loud and take about 10 times longer. I'll probably keep one as a spare and throw the other one away.

Of course, after I bought this and used it, I found out that there is an 80P viair out there, also with the snap-on chuck, but for less. I would have gone and exchanged the two to save some money, but, I'm so impressed with 90P's performance that I didn't want to go thru the hassle of mailing it back and risk being disappointed. Will probably try the 80P if I need another one, but if they ever discontinue the 80P, I would definitely buy this one again.

I got this tire inflator because I didn't want to be dependent on my local gas station to fill my tires up. Last time I went there the air compressor was broken, so I finally bought this.

This unit hooks directly up to your car's battery. My 2010 Honda Accord only puts out 10 amps through the DC outlet inside the car, so I decided to get this one rather than similar units that I have seen that hook up inside your car rather than the battery. I have read other reviews about some of these inflators blowing fuses in the cars, so I was aware of that issue ahead of time.

After connecting the clamps to the battery and turning on my car, I filled up all my tires just to top them off. The compressor is relatively quiet (certainly not loud by my definition) and added about 2 psi to each tire in about 10 seconds for each tire. The unit was a little warm after all four tires, but certainly not anywhere near hot to hurt my hands from touching the metal heatsink. It probably gets hotter if you leave it on for longer, but for periodic tire inflation maintenance, it seems like it is rugged enough to handle it.

The nozzle is a clampdown type which also has a release switch. You press the release switch once to lock it into the release position, and press it again to close it back up.

Most of the parts are made of metal, not plastic. It does have rubber feet on the bottom to absorb the vibrations though. The length of the hose and DC power cord put together is just enough to reach all four tires on my car comfortably. The bag that comes with it fits all of the parts with some room to spare (I also keep my tire guage in there now).

All things considered, I think this is a pretty good unit. The construction feels good, which is reassuring since I had another tire inflator a while back that did not last long. It does everything I expected.

I wish carrying bag was slightly bigger or the location of the air hose outlet could change. When I put the compressor in the bag it seems like it could unnecessarily bend the hose if I' not careful. This is just a very minor complaint.

If you goto viair's website, the 70p is for up to 175/65/15 tires, which is 15" tires. I had 18" tires, so that's why I looked into the 90p.

I also looked at the Masterflow/Q-Industries MF-1050 / MV-50. These pumps are spec'd similarly to the Viair 90p. One confusing thing is that the MF-1050 and MV-50 are the same exact pump did some research online. In the end, I opted for the Viair brand, b/c their website and company history seemed more solid than MasterFlow.

I think a lot of people who get compressors w/ a power rating of only 15A (those that are powered by cigarette lighters or 110v cords) have a pump that's just too underpowered for their needs. That's why it breaks down or they have an unsatisfactory experience.

This Viair 90p definitely meets my needs and I'd recommend it to all.

I've had the little Viair 90p for about three years now. It's used to pump up tires following off-road trips and sees plenty of use. When other compressors have difficulty pumping up four tires this little thing just keeps going and going pumping up tire-after-tire even in the heat. Other compressors thermal out, overheating and shutting down. The Viair puts out 1.77 cu.ft. of air a minute and puts a 33" SUV tire from 18 psi to 36 psi in about four minutes. It uses a clamp-on valve connector which is quicker and easier to use then the kind that screws in place. Between the electrical cable and air hose it reaches all corners of my SUV with a bit of room to spare.

I was not happy burning fuel to get to a gas station then shoving $1.75 in quarters to pump air. So, I looked for a better solution; one that I can leave in the garage or take with me in a convenient soft case.

I researched the various portable air compressor products at Amazon.com, especially the reviews. Reviewers complained of blown fuses using the cigarette lighter so I steered to this model that uses battery clamps. The 6 page "User Manual" has four pages of features and safety instructions including not to use when sleepy! There are less the three pages of actual instructions. This product is made in China and its user manual reflects a translation without using it. The manufacturer's web site offers no user manuals and is less than helpful unless you are an engineer.

This unit draws 23 amps and my cigarette lighter circuit has a 7 amp fuse. Even directly connecting to the battery, the manual does advise to run your engine. You then rely upon the 90P's in-line 30 amp fuse. I had no problem with blown fuses either without running the engine or with running the engine.

Next, reviewers complain of short cables. If you drive a truck, it may be too short unless you use those jumper cables you carry to help fellow citizens. I measured 12 feet of power cable and five feet air hose, exactly as advertised. So the 17 feet worked fine for a Jeep and a BMW 5-series. The manual does say to fully uncoil all cables.

Last, reviewers complain of inaccurate pressure gauge readings. The manual does not clarify this. To add pressure, it pumps air in with higher pressure. That affects the real-time pressure gauge reading. As a few reviews pointed out, pump three to four pounds more than you need then turn off the pump. The idle pressure reading is accurate per two other passive gauges I have.

The air bleeder chuck and air pressure hose are heavy duty quality items. The pressure relief valve, while convenient to adjust to a lower pressure, is also tricky to use. Press it too hard and it continually lets air out. I suggest a brief air release before adding air to release any moisture.

My expectations are exactly meet so 5 stars. It is seemingly well made; has multiple attachments; runs much quieter than a commercial air pump; is light weight and fits in a carry pouch. Long-term usage? I do not yet know; but I am registering online for the one-year warranty.

This unit should provide the capacity needed to jump start most cars. However, there are a few things to note:

1. This unit does not have an automatic float charging system. This means you can't just leave it plugged in & expect it to maintain a full charge. Instead, you must periodically unplug it and replug it in (at least every few months). If you forget, you will not only not have a charged unit when you need it, but, the battery can become damaged as well if left to fully discharge. Chargers costing as little as $20 have this feature; There's no reason to exclude it on a unit like this.

2. This unit does not include a power cord. Instead, you will need to use an extension cord; it needs to be a single dongle version because of the design of the unit.

3. This unit does not include a storage compartment. Not a big deal, but, if you have some accessories you want to tote (like a power cord or inflation needle), you won't have a convenient place to store it.

I've also had two PowerStation units. One died within a year and the other still works (I think). Time will tell how the Stanley stacks up.

...and that's saying a lot, since this thing is so heavy.

I haven't used all the features, but I recently had a electrical problem in my car. The alternator was draining my battery, and I had to unplug it every time. I got the jump starter after my car was fixed, but then I forgot to turn my lights off two days later. This thing jumped my car just fine.

I also have a lot of problems with my tires in the winter, air slowly leaks out of one of my tires. This will come in handy then, as well. It'll save me a couple bucks going to the gas station to fill up air.

Pros: It works. Lots of features, including a cigarette lighter charger, USB charger, and air compressor for your tires. Easy to carry with the handle up top.

Cons: Heavy, it takes a long time to charge (15-19 hrs), and you'll need an extension cord to charge it.

I drive a honda ridgeline pickup truck and my wife drive a honda civic. I've been looking for a decent jumpstarter that would be powerful enough for both of our vehicles. Rather then having 2 various models it just seemed easier to get two identical units. After reading reviews on several various jump-starters I opted for this model.

Now the most negative thing I could find about this thing was it lacked a flat charger so you couldn't leave it plugged in. For me that's not even a factor, after all I bought this to charge it and then put it in the trunk of my wifes car and in the cargo area of my truck. I don't intend on leaving this plugged in. So if you plan on using this HOW IT IS DESIGNED then you too don't even need to worry about the lack of a float charger.

That being said, the unit itself is a bit heavy, imagine picking up really big battery, that's essentially what this is. It has some weight to it.

The jumpstarter itself also features an interesting little light that pivots as well as an air compressor. I've heard/read back reviews on the air compressor, for me it's not why I bought it. But initial checks it looks like it works fine and even has somewhere to store the air hose which is really nice.

The one negative I have on this thing is the power switch for the air compressor is on the back and is not protected. In other words it could in theory be flipped on and drain the battery. So when you need to jump your car the starter would be dead. I wish they put a cover or moved the switch but honestly it would take a perfect mistake for that to get turned on so it's really not that critical. To prevent this from potentially happening I actually went down to Target and bought 2 milk crates,one for me and one for my wife. I put a jump starter, first aid kit, oil, etc in the crate so it's essentially the roadside emergency crate and also protects the jumpstarter from getting knocked around and/or turned on.

Overall I spent $140 total on 2 of these and I'm really happy with the quality. They charge overnight easily, the indicator lights show you the charge remaining on the battery and it has power ports for 12volt and USB which is an added bonus.

If you need a jumpstarter I would definitely consider this one.

The basic function of one of these things is pretty simple: take a car with a dead battery and give it enough of a boost in juice to get the engine to turn over. They certainly beat trying to find and then position someone to get a jump between cars.

That said, there are several different "flavors" of jump starters. I've had the smaller 200 amp versions and found myself stranded when it didn't have enough oomph to start my car from a fully dead battery. I don't drive a tank or a pick-up with a Hemi, so it's not like I needed a lot of juice. The little one just didn't have the power. The person that was kind enough to brave a torrential downpour and give me a jump had a 500 amp that worked like a charm.

This thing is a life saver. Off of one charge, it's jump started over five cars and one was an Avalanche with a stone dead battery. The battery has held a charge for over a year, even being in my trunk the whole time. On top of being beefy enough to start every vehicle I've attached it to, there are little bells and whistles that add to the overall wow. There's an attached LED mini-spotlight comparable to a medium mag-lite, an air compressor and get this a USB port AND a socket similar to your car's cigarette lighter in case you want to power/charge a gadget for hours at a time without being near a computer. This thing has some heft but I didn't find it obnoxiously heavy. It certainly weighed less than a regular car battery!
