Black & Decker PI200AB Inverter

I purchased this to use with my laptop for a long car trip. My laptop is rated at consuming a max load of 90 watts. As soon as I plugged in my laptop, the fault (red) light lit up and the device no longer functioned. I tried resetting and it still doesn't work.

This inverter has no trouble charging my BlackBerry or iPhone, but that isn't the reason I purchased it.

For reference sake, an old off-brand inverter I had rated at 200w powered this very same laptop last year on a car trip.

This product does not work as it is marketed and therefore I will be returning it. Shame on Black and Decker for trying to pass this off as a 200w inverter when it clearly cannot even handle half that load.

I agree with previous reviewers who state this will not even power a small laptop. I have an Eee PC(is a very small laptop) and draws about 70watts of power... this inverter will not power it because of an over load fault... 200Watt inverter... I think not.

I bought this product to charge my laptop and a few other devices while I was on the road. So far it has done all I needed it to do. I used this to repair an air compressor. I originally bought a replacement plug from a local auto parts, and it got melted by the current draw.

When I first used this plug, it acted "dead" because the fuse blew instantly. I think the provided fuse was only 1 or 2 amps, which is not nearly enough for an air compressor. I bought some 20 amp fuses locally, and it has been working fine for a few months now.

I was a little concerned because the wire pigtail was slightly lighter gauge than the compressor cord, but is has not been an issue thus far. The green LED indicator is nice because you can tell if the socket has power.

A good deal for the money, but it should come with a heavier fuse to match it's current handling capability.

Ok..first thing..read the instruction manual when you get this..it's a 2 amp fuse cig plug only good for your ipods or mp3 players..now if your gonna use it to power up a compressor, install led lights or power up dvd players, etc..go to home depot buy a 15 amp fuse (automotive/ marine fuse only) and change the 2 amp fuse....coz if yu dont the fuse will blow right away..and your gonna start thinkng the product is useless like some people here..lol..to change just unscrew the tip or header of the plug..insert the new fuse...now you can run whatever you want..this is great for the led light project that i did..save me from routing wires to the battery or tapping on my cars electronic fuses. This is a good product if you know what you are doing or buying.

This has saved me several times -much easier to replace the fuse in this than in the truck -so when I do dumb things and overload it the fuse in the plug blows and not the truck. I like it.

I'm using this in conjunction with a RoadPro RPSL-7000 AC to DC 6 Amp Power Converter that I bought on Amazon to power a car stereo amplifier from a wall outlet. I crimped the power and ground leads from the amp to the leads on this item and everything worked fine. Note that there is a fuse installed in this item that is probably only rated at 2 or 3 amps, so if you need to draw more current through it, like I do, then you will need to replace the fuse with a higher amperage fuse, but that's readily available at Home Depot and plently of other places. So far, no problems.

UPDATE: Used it through the winter of 2010-11, down to -8. Clock held up, still using original battery. Use caution setting the buttons, they

are very sensitive and you can mess up the time easily and then you have to go through the program cycle again.

This is a neat little cassette capture unit that is easy to use. I loaded the software that came with it but had trouble learning to use it. I decided to try the player with my laptop's Sound Recorder program and it works great.

I plugged the unit into my laptop with the USB cable included, loaded the cassette tape I wanted to convert, and clicked on Sound Recorder in Accessories. I then clicked on Start Recording (I had my Altec speakers plugged into the capture unit so I could hear when the tape ended). When the recording was finished, I clicked on Stop Recording, and the window to save the recorded file automatically appeared. I went to Music, typed in a title for the recording, and saved the file. I then went to iTunes, clicked on Add File, and my music files automatically appeared. I then clicked on the title of my new recording. iTunes converted the file to an AAC file. When the entire set of tapes had been copied, I set up a new playlist, added all the relevant files, and synced it to my iPod Touch. It all went quickly (except for the time it takes to record) and it worked like a charm.

Even though I had trouble with the software (my fault, not theirs), I am giving the unit five stars because it easily did all that I expected. The tapes I converted are very old (some created more than 30 years ago) recordings of family gatherings, conversations, and music (we have a bunch of musicians in our family), and they turned out clear and clean. I understand that audio book and music cassettes can also be converted and I might try that on some of my old homemade music tapes. For now, I am so happy to get my family memories on my PC, iTunes and on my iPod.

The unit itself is attractive, compact, as durable as one would expect for a small unit, and easy to use. Everything is included (ear buds, USB cable, software CD and the unit itself) and it's all nicely priced at around $19 plus shipping. I might spend some time learning to use the software that came with the unit, but the Sound Recorder program works just as well and as long as the tapes come out clear, I might not bother. In short, I am very pleased with the little capture unit and consider it an excellent purchase.

The usb connector was very finicky. I could usually get it to work by letting the usb hang in just the right position, but any small touch to the device would cause it to fail. Tried multiple usb cables, it was the actual USB connector that was at fault.

Also, recordings had a significant hum that I know was the cause of the device. With the recording software, I could remove most of the hum, but it added an extra 5 minute step after the recording to do this.

I do not recommend this product. You'd be better off just getting a regular tape player and use line-in to your computer... that's basically all you're doing with this anyway... the USB connection on this device basically just adds another sound card to your system with line in "built in".

BTW, the software that shipped with the product is freeware called Audacity. I recommend getting the latest version online for your recordings. Regardless of whether you buy this device or use the "line-in" method I mentioned above, Audacity seemed like pretty good software to do it with.

I recently ran across a forgotten box of about 50 old audio cassette tapes containing vintage radio shows, but since I went (in my infinite wisdom) completely 'digital' years ago, I now had no way to play them (Insert D'oh! here). How nice it would be to be able to transfer all my old audio cassettes of mine to MP3, eh? Luckily, I found this 'USB Cassette Capture' device (Model #TT-CM001). For about $20 you can't go wrong. At first glance it's about the size of the old Sony 'Walkman' (yep, I'm that old). It came with an installation disk that contains an instruction manual (PDF), and an older version of the free 'Audacity' recording software. I recommend going online and downloading the newest version of Audacity (still free), it's 'Plug-Ins' (just for fun), and the 'LAME MP3 Encoder' (even though it has a silly name, it's very important, you will need it!). Installing them is the same as following the instructions on the installation CD (that PDF I mentioned) included with the 'USB Cassette Capture' device (Model #TT-CM001). If this seems too difficult, get one of your computer 'savy' brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, or grandchildren to do this for you. I have Windows 7 and it works great. The 'Audacity' recording software is backwards compatible to Windows XP, and other variations of it include a MAC version too. Now as for the other reviewers who complained about the sound being slow, garbled, etc., it's not the device (at least in my case), but it may be the condition of the cassette tape. So why not 'Fast Forward' and 'Rewind' the cassette tape a few times to loosen it up, especially if it's been sitting in a box for a few years like mine were. I hope this review was helpful.

It took a little trial and error to get up and running, but is well worth it. Good item for the price. Very happy with it overall.

This product arrived in a short amount of time and was exactly as pictured. The sound quality is much better than the stock Blaupunkt (alleged) speakers in my car and the amperage handling was compatible with the Sony WX-GT77UI head unit that I installed which pushes 17 watts RMS and 52 watts peak per channel. I installed them in the front doors of a 2004 GTO and didn't really need to cut out the backing cups (as suggested on Crutchfield) after having attached the provided wires first. I've been around the block with consumer-grade two-way radios that I use for backpacking, camping and general Boy Scout activities. I've tried Uniden, Midland and Motorola, but always come back to Motorola. Midlands broke and Unidens don't have great range and can't produce clear enough audio for me.

I learned after hobbling along with my last non-Moto set (Uniden G-227) that Motorola really is the way to go for clarity, range and features. Audio clarity is important to me because there's nothing more maddening than muddy audio and having to ask the person on the other end to keep repeating until you can understand what they've said.

PROS:

* Robust design.

* Bright color makes it harder to lose.

* Waterproof from basic elements. Living in Florida, this is important.

* Great audio clarity.

* Decent range (certainly not 35 miles, but a more realistic one-mile+ range in forested and flat terrain).

* Richly featured for a consumer radio.

* PTT power adjustable buttons (one H, one L) means no more fidgeting with menu settings when you need higher power transmissions.

* Comes with a rechargeable battery pack for each radio.

* Emergency LED light is very handy.

* NOAA weather receiver.

* USB chargeable.

CONS:

* Currently lacks charging station (allegedly to be released soon, according to Motorola).

* Wish it had a carrying case instead of the plastic belt clip.

* Wish it had more range in typical conditions, but this is not a pro radio set.

I'm a realist when it comes to consumer two-way radios. I don't expect an actual 35-mile range and don't actually need 35 miles. That's what cell phones are for, but of course, if you are in a very remote area, a cell signal may not be available.

I was impressed with the menu of features on this radio and really needed to move up to a radio with NOAA weather capabilities. When you are one of the adults responsible for as many as 75 boys on an outing, you really need to be on alert for their safety. I like the overall quality of the radio and have never been disappointed with a Moto two-way. I still have my Talkabout 250, which has been in use for close to 10 trouble-free years now. It's still crystal-clear and transmits well for a compact FRS radio, which was another reason why I came back to and will remain with Motorola.

This radio set deserves five stars for its performance and deep feature list, but more importantly, for me, being able to hear transmissions clearly is a key element. I'm happy with this radio for what it is: an effective communications tool.

** 12/21/2012 UPDATE **

Not changing the five stars rating, especially after taking the radios camping in dense woodlands this past weekend. My daughter went hiking with her girlfriend and was well beyond a mile away when she called me on the radio. Her voice was loud and crystal clear. She also found the built-in LED light very helpful when she couldn't find her own flashlight. Honestly, I didn't think much about the radio's emergency light, but it came in handy!

I've been a happy Motorola FRS radio customer for years. I purchased my FRS radios before consumer GMRS radios were even available in mass retail. My 'old' FRS radios still work, but our family has expanded and I wanted to add a couple more radios to our cache of outdoor adventure gear.

I'm happy with the MT350R radios. We use when skiing, so I'm happy they're weather-proofed. We also use the lanyard loop and wear under our jackets, so I'm happy weather-proof means (to me) sweat-proof under a coat. I like the rechargeable batteries, with the option of using alkaline batteries. These offer options for turning on lots of beeps and noises, and I shut all of that off because I just don't find it to be that useful. I also tend to stay on the lower-power FRS channels and avoid the higher-power GMRS channels, not only for battery savings, but because 35-miles just isn't very realistic. Whether using lowor high-power channels, line-of-site communication with the other radios in our party is all you get. If you can see where the other people are -waiting at the bottom of the slope, at the top of the next ridgeline, your belayer on a climb, etc. -then these will work well. But, they can't transmit through mountains.

These do exactly what I need, and I have no regrets about this purchase. The color shown in the photo appears more orange, which is what I wanted. The actual product color looks like school-bus yellow.

I am taking two star because I ordered these specifically for the orange color and received yellow. the sound quality is crystal clear, the NOAA weather feature works great and has 12 weather channels to select from for best quality. You can customize the send receive chirps, and they are splash proof but i wouldn't submerge them. The other star i am taking is the belt clip is very soft and basically will just stretch open if pulled gently. One other nice option are the two PTT buttons, one is low power for relatively close range, maximum battery life and will operate at 0.5 watt, the top button is Hi power ( that's why its on top) and operates at 1.5 Watt for greater distances or crowded areas.

I am pleased with these radios in most respects. They have good clear sound, static free on the channel I chose. They work well in the application for which I purchased them. My only criticism is that the "35 miles" is a joke. I couldn't even get a signal at two miles in a semi-urban area. For my purposes I would hardly ever need to reach that far, so I am satisfied. I thought the price was very reasonable.

I first charge the GPS to my house jack and it did not keep a charge. Then I was told I needed to charge it with the car charger because of the type of batter it is. For two days I charge it in my car, 48 straight hours and still when I unpluged it, within 20 minutes it was dead. What got me the must is setting it up. There was no instruction that came with the box. The internet was no help inturns of setting the GPS up. There is no one to call for help. I am so upset because I now have to go and buy another GPS from a store that will help me set it up without problems.

By purchacing these radios, I saved a ton of money since I did not have to buy or rent good high quality scanners for my two boys. Overall, this is an mediocre scanner. Functionally, it is a bit clumsy and not the easiest to figure out how to use various functions. I primarily use these to listen to drivers during NASCAR races. Unfortunately, the volume control is not great and they pick up quite a bit of static; making it hard to hear what the drivers are talking about. The headphones that come with these are terrible; just some cheap foam covered headphones. I figured I could plug in my own, high quality, headphones but that was not the case. If you do not use the cheap ones that came with the scanner, the scanner will cease to function (literally the buttons will not respond).

On the bright side, the desk charger is nice. Having rechargeable batteries ensures that you will have ample power. I haven't ever had an issue with them running out of power. It is also a plus that they come as a set so you don't have to use a splitter and share with someone else.

If given the opportunity to purchase these again, I would probably spend a bit more money and get a higher quality product.

This gave me everything I needed. Plugged into my outlet, provided some USB ports for charging and held my handheld in place. I used this for about 1.5/2months before it went south on me.

The part the bends in the direction you need had snapped on me when I had to rebend it into a different position. The material is some sort of bendy type metal. I think something better could have been used that wouldn't snap after a couple of repositionings. I'm not too upset about it. It was only a temporary thing for me.

Honestly though, if you don't change cars frequently or devices and plan to keep this in one to two positions then this will be great. Unfortunately for me it just didn't work out for me.

I received this product very promptly. Matter of fact the very next day. Product was easy to program to my car's computer system. Included programing instructions were right on the money. I would purchase again.

I have had this remote for a few weeks now and I will say since I bought my car second hand it didn't come with a remote but this one was extremely easy to program, less than 5 minutes to be approximate. It also comes with instructions for the cars that it does support so if you don't have your original owners manual you wont need it. I bought these remotes for my 2000 Focus and they didn't program. I followed the instructions that were provided and they still wouldn't work. I then tried to program them on another focus and they still didn't work. I took them and attempted to program them to an explorer, and voila! They programmed. I don't know whether I was shipped the right thing or not, but they weren't for the vehicle I bought them for.

I bought this as a replacement. Since it is the same manufacturer, it should have worked great. it did but for only 3 days. I replaced the battery still nothing. I should have returned it for a new one -there's no reason this shouldn't work. Probably some kind of manufacturing defect that caused it to short out.

I contacted the seller to make sure this would fit my TomTom. He assured me it would. When I received it, it would not fit because the rubber around it was to thich to go in. I did not return because the price was so low. I just cut a little of the rubber off and used it.

This broke on me :( I havent used the charger yet but the part where it connects to the suction cup came off the first day I got it.

Who ever boxed my item didnt do it right. It was already broken when I opened the box. The 2 side grips that hold the phone broke but luckily super glue fixed it. Other than those issues, this product has potential. It grips the glass and my phone pretty good. If the material they used was better I would definetly recommend it but I wouldnt buy this item again.

Because this one ain't it! Yes It holds to the glass... most of the time, yes it holds the phone without pushing the (way too long) volume buttons of the phone ( once you extend all ajustability to their far ends ) however if you try to plug in the usb charger while it is in there it pushes the plug to the side ( not good as HTC are notorious for usb port failure from anything other than perfect insertion of the plug) my biggest gripe is that when the phone vibrates this non premium holder sounds enough like a rattle snake to make dessert rat jump!
