I installed this unit in my 2009 Subaru WRX. I removed it and returned it after 3 days.

The good:

-It has a good amount of power. I ran this to my stock speakers and they sounded much, much better than they did with the factory receiver.

-Good build quality. The physical unit feels well made. Mechanical flip face works smoothly, buttons and volume dial feel solid.

-It's cheap.

The bad:

-iPod integration is terrible. There is no way to easily scroll through artists/albums etc. You have to click an arrow to flip through each individual entry. This is OK if you have a couple albums on a nano, but not OK if you plan to connect an iPod with a large library. Finding an artist beginning with 'N' took close to 100 clicks with my full 120GB iPod classic. And if you want to go from Nelly to Nirvana, you have to start all over from 'A' again.

-Poor screen resolution. Font edges are jagged.

-No dimmer. It has a dimmer connection wire, but it did not work on my unit. The screen was at full brightness at all times, and the manual dimmer control did not work either. At night it was like having a spotlight in my dash.

-Restarts between sources. Every time you change sources, the entire unit restarts. Screen shuts off then on and everything. It doesn't take too long, 3-4 seconds maybe, but it is rather odd and obnoxious. I took the whole thing out to check for a loose connection when it first happened. Called Clarion about it and they said it is normal operation.

-Navigation. The specs list this unit as being compatible with an optional navigation unit. However, the only input for the navigation unit is a component video connection. So if you were to connect navigation, the VX409 would only serve as a monitor, and you would not have touch screen control of anything.

Overall, the actual physical unit could be quite nice. However the software feels like going back to using Windows 95.

The VX409 is a great unit, but for the price, you'd think you would get a lot more.

The Positives:

-The unit makes your factory speakers sound way better. I installed it in a 2000 Honda Accord and had no idea that my speakers could sound that good.

-The motorized fold down screen is awesome. It looks good and is very smooth when it flips down. I expected it to be jerky or sound labored (like other units I've seen) but it simply works and works well. The touch screen responds well to touch whether the weather outside is cold or hot. Also, when the screen is cold, it doesn't lag like I've seen in other units.

-The EQ controls are as easy or as complicated as you want them to be. It's a good unit for beginners or for higher-level installation.

The Negatives

-The software is awful. There is no room for any customization other than sound (which I guess is what really matters, but other things are nice). Another problem is that any time you change from one interface to another, the unit does a small reboot. So if I change from watching a DVD to listening to the radio, I push the mode button and wait for it to reboot into "A/V Input", then through "iPod" and then finally to radio. It takes a while to get to anything because of the constant rebooting.

-The settings menu seems to be its own program on this unit. That is a problem when you're listening to music and then you have to adjust the sound, so you exit the music (which stops playing at that point), boot up into the settings menu, change your settings, then enter back into your music and check the settings. The whole process should be integrated but it's not. Changing and checking one setting takes about 2 minutes due to rebooting.

-Due to legalities, this unit will not play DVDs while the vehicle is moving. They do this by requiring you to hook up a wire to your parking brake. I don't have a problem with this except that I bought this unit so I could send the video signal back to TV headrests for long trips with my kids. This can't be done without buying a small "cheat box" that gives your unit a false parking brake signal and making it work. This of course makes your unit operate in an illegal way and can get you a huge ticket in some states.

-For the love of God, don't set a security password on this thing. Brand new, out of the box, I put a security password on it. It was the same password I use on EVERYTHING so I know it wasn't user error. Long story short, the unit locked me out after three attempts, went into a 24-hour lock out mode, then gave me three more chances to get it right, then went into a permanent lock out mode. After 2 weeks of wresting with Clarion customer service, the whole unit had to be reset.

I love this unit now that I have worked all of the kinks out using aftermarket products and cheat boxes but I don't think I should have to do that after spending $600 on a product. There are tons of units out there from companies who have learned to integrate all programs to work together and also integrate your portable music. This particular Clarion unit has failed to do that. I recommend finding a unit that does.

For the price of this unit, there are far better choices that the vx409. Despite the fact that the unit has added features that you may purchase such a IPOD adapter, bluetooth adapter, and navigation. The controls for these options seems like an after-thought, meant to push more units out the door and make it sound feature rich. The add-ons offer little in terms of seemless user interface. The unit takes a good 3 seconds when switching between different sources, even more when it is trying to decide if the CD you put in is actually a dvd, cd, or mp3s. There are 4 EQ selections and the only changes you can make is the fader, bass, and trebble.

Very nice stereo, would be nicer if the instructions included were clearer and made more sense but they don't. I don't beleve I can use this stereo to it's fullest potential because of this fact. It has noce features but needs a usb port and sd card slot to be complete. Not very customisable. That is all it really lacks to be complete. Put it short this is just another stereo and nothing spectacular...... Easy installation for the mechanically inclined...

I purchased this for my Mom. I should have ordered from Amazon so I could have returned it. The unit we purchased looked new but the box seemed as if it had been opened before. Should have returned it right away to seller. We got the unit hooked up about 1 month after purchase (gave it to my mom as a gift)and it worked ok. Noticed that the battery was not holding a charge for more than about 20 minutes. Unit was working whiles plugged in at that time. Eventually the battery deteriorated to the point that it would not hold a charge at all and when that happened the unit would not function either. Figured I would try to find a new battery for it. HA!!! Battery seems to be made and available only in the UK and/or Australia and costs almost as much as the original unit does. DONT waste your money! Beware, especially if you are not buying from Amazon. At least with their excellent customer service you can probably return or exchange it.

DLO TransCast FM Transmitter for MP3 Players

I know this product has received mixed reviews. All I can say is it works for me.

1) I drive a Honda, the radio is set up in 0.2mhz increments. If I can find a dead station, anyone can.

3) Cigarette lighter adapter works well.

I have used around town and on long trips (5-8 hours). The only thing you need to be aware of is having to hunt for a new station as you drive X distance.

Sound quality can be controlled by the player, as the transmitter uses the headphone jack.

If your going to bass boost the player, set the radio to flat until you hear what it sounds like.

I use mine with a Creative Zen Vision:M. Does the job, and does it for a reasonable price.

The DLO TransCast FM device seems like a great idea. It is small and packaged nicely. I thought I was getting a great deal at $20, but the device was intermittent and staticy from day one. After I gave up on it, I tore the device open and discovered a cracked solder joint on the socket where the power jack plugs in. Even though the root cause could have been a cold solder joint (manufacturing problem), I suspect failure was because the tiny socket wasn't mechanically secured. The force of plugging in the jack was borne completely by the PC board pad and solder.

The problem with is with impedance. Yes, it works with my Zen MP3 player. No, it doesn't work with my ATT Tilt Cellphone. The problem is the impedance is different. The DLO wants low impedance..like for a typical headset. My cellphone puts out a high impedance to its headset.

So, the issue can be resolved for $2.99. Go to Radio Shack and buy the 8 ohm-to-1000 ohm audio transformer. You'll need to do a little soldering, but it works. Why didn't they incorporate different impedanc einto the device? YOu can figure it cost more that way

I am a happy owner of this product -and I get excited, especially nowadays, when I come across such a great buy in a sea of mediocrity in electronics.

The most important thing to note about this FM transmitter is that it uses the entire FM range. Also the product's web site features an "Open FM Frequency Finder" which finds unused FM stations by zip code or city/state. This free service makes this product even more dependable and is another plus in the manufacturer's favor. Google "digital lifestyle outfitters fm transmitter" to find the product's web site.

Note that most FM transmitters only use the high and low FM frequencies, which in areas like Washington DC are clogged with FM stations and no available FM frequencies. Using all frequencies is a feature usually only found in devices which cost quite a bit more than this one.

This FM transmitter scans the "even" FM frequencies as well (ie 96.0, 96.1, 96.2, ...), so if your car stereo scans these frequencies you're almost guaranteed to find a free FM frequency. Too bad it stops at 88.1 (my car's stereo goes all the way down to 87.7), but its not a big loss.

I've read all of the reviews for this product as of the time of this post, and I am dubious about the claims made in most of negative ones. I have owned this FM transmitter for close to three years now. Mine is still as good as new. In fact, when you factor in the car plug and rechargeable AAA battery, you'll probably agree that this is an absolutely excellent value for the price.

The company has been around for more than a few months too, which in this business is pretty amazing.

If you are budget conscious and demand quality for your money: stop surfing, buy this FM transmitter, and for goodness' sake, go to bed! The charger works great. It charges quickly and when it's done it changes to green. The only problem with it is that if you play the unit while charging you get a buzz in the background. I seem to have the opposite experience as the previous reviewer. This "charger" does not seem to charge my iPod Mini much at all. No matter how low the battery is, the indicator light on the charger almost always glows green when it is connected. I rarely ever see the amber color that indicates charging. The iPod will often lose power soon after removing it from this charger. This does not happen when I use the wall adapter to charge it.

But as for playing the iPod while it is plugged in the car, I have had no problems at all. The main reason I own this is to play the iPod in the car, and it works just fine for that.

I used this unit as the core of a home-made entertainment system on a narrowboat where space is at a premium. It was easy to install and functions as advertised. It feeds a pair of mini Gale speakers and the audio quality is excellent. The unit plays CDs DVDs (all regions) fine. The video quality is OK but not spectacular component outputs or at lease a S-Video out would have improved things. A disappointment is the quality of the aux audio input it sounds very thin (lacks bass) when fed from an MP3 player or cassette recorder. Overall, though, I am very satisfied with this device and would recommend the Boss brand for quality and value.

I bought this 3 months ago and I plugged my GPS, my FM transmitter, and my Ipods charger in all at the same time. I was sketchy on getting this because everyone said it blew a fuse but that never happened with me. Maybe you just can't have too many things using power. Your lighter outlet is only made for a certain amount of watts. Like an electrical outlet, if you have too many things plugged in, it's going to blow a fuse. So you can't be upset at the product. Cigarette lighters are meant to run small things.

Another plus for me is that it sticks out since the cigarette lighter in my 90 New Yorker is a little pushed back.

I plugged an air pump into this thing and it immediately burned out. Whoops. Wish I would have known. For the price, I may try again...and now I know. But, be forewarned.

It is very hard to get this splitter plugged into my cigarette lighter then after I did get it plugged in, I can't get the adjustable arm tight enough to hold anything I plug into it stable. I have only plugged in my iPod FM transmitter but no matter how tight I turn the screw, the whole thing slowly slides down were I can't see the iPod display. I have not tried to plug more than one thing into this but after reading other reviews, I think I am afraid to do so.

I purchased this device because I wanted an FM transmitter that would simultaneously recharge my Sansa Clip Plus. That's the main feature of this device. I was also swayed by the customer reviews praising the Gomadic Company and its customer service. I can verify that Gomadic's customer service is outstanding: Every complaint I had was graciously answered within one business day, and a new device was mailed to me immediately at no charge, no questions asked. But no company can make a business around great customer service alone. The product also needs to work more or less as advertised. And this one does not.

The first device I received would transmit as long as I didn't plug in the second cable to allow simultaneous charging. As soon as I attempted to charge, the audio no longer appeared in the FM signal. In other words, it basically never worked as advertised. Gomadic's CSR emailed me that it's a "recently discovered" "bug with the device", but they have "resolved the issue" and are sending me a new device. Well, the new device actually worked ... for about three weeks. Then, unfortunately, it started transmitting all kinds of nasty noises, regardless of whether the Sansa Clip was plugged into it, or turned on, or charging. Therefore, this device became unusable as an FM transmitter. The Gomadic CSR apologized and sent me a third device. This one performed exactly like the first one. That is, it never allowed transmitting and charging at the same time.

Ordinarily, I'd apply the three-strikes-and-you're-out rule. But because of the responsive customer service, and because I really wanted this device to work, I decided to give Gomadic one last chance. My last email to them reviewed my experience, and stated that I planned to write an Amazon customer review based on whether they could make good on their product's main claim to transmit and charge at the same time. The CSR apologized again, stating, "We have sent a new one today which we are certain will resolve these issues."

It was not to be. The fourth device performed exactly like the first and third. So now I have four devices, none of which work as advertised. All but the second never worked as advertised. The second only worked for three weeks. The three dead-on-arrival units are manufactured with a 5/32" round cable, while the one which worked briefly has a flat twin zip-cord style cable. I suspect that the units with flat cable also contain an internal bug fix allowing the unit to work correctly initially ... until something else goes wrong. Units with round cable will probably never work as advertised.

It is unacceptable to me that the main feature does not work as advertised, so I gave it one star. Apparently others feel differently. Two previous customer reviews note that this feature does not work, but they gave it three and even four stars anyway.

I have purchased several Gomadic products using their "Adaptable Charging Technology" which consists of a changeable tip that plugs into your cell phone. If you get a new phone that requires a different plug (which I do every year or two) you can simply buy a new tip for the Gomadic devices and they work with the new phone.

For the price this is a good device for any mp3 player. My only complaint is that on my Sansa Clip version I can not charge and play at the same time. I purchased the Gomadic transmitter/charger for my new Sansa clip. I only listen to my mp3 player in the car, so I needed something that would transmit the music. My previous Sansa had a transmitter/charger was made directly by Sansa and was able to charge and transmit at the same time. However, the Gomadic transmitter/charger can only do one or the other at a time. If I want to play music, I cannot have the charger part plugged in. I am a little disappointed with the product since my last one was able to both simultaneously. Regardless, the Gomadic still allows me to listen to mp3 player in the car. I just hope the battery on the Sansa lasts a while.

We bought this for our boat to go along with a new Sony stereo, 4 speakers, and subwoofer. The sound quality with just the Sony stereo and speakers was not impressive, I was ready to return everything. Lots of noise and any bass sounded awful. We decided to give the stereo and speakers a chance by buying the Sony subwoofer and amp. I am so glad we did. After hooking everything up, which was easy, the sound quality was amazing. Everything from Hip-hop to high-treble 80's music sounds great. I was worried because Sony is not known for sound quality, but I am sold from now on. I hope this review helps. I could not find enough reviews when I was buying this product.

After getting my boat with the factory head unit and speakers in it, I opted for sony's marine unit to add capability to the boat for using ipods-sirius-mp3 discs etc. That went great, as I could use many new modern devices, but the sound was terrible with my 2 little 25 watt RMS speakers. So then I dropped in some new polk (100 watt RMS) speakers. Much better sound but now the head unit couldn't push enough power to the speakers and the unit would start to clip the sound at higher volumes as it struggled to try and keep up. So to cure this I opted for this amp. Now I have what I consider great, clean, clear, crisp sound at very loud levels without any distortion. Now I am not the biggest audiophile out there and this is my first install of head units, speakers and amps but it is all very clear and easy to understand and do. I guess now my next move will to be to buy a sub woofer to run off the amp and then to buy a wakeboard tower and install some more speakers and then buy another amp to run those and then buy the remote commander for the stern etc...But seriously this amp so improved the overall sound and capabilities of my system that it is now something you want to use and listen to.

I bought a Ski Centurion Elite V 22' boat and wanted to upgrade the stereo system from the existing Alpine unit (which didn't have an i-pod port) and the older marine speakers. I installed this Sony Amp, along with the Sony CDXM60UI Marine Stereo and 6 Polk DB-651 speakers (4 in the boat & 2 on the tower). This combination has a clean crisp sound, even at a higher volume, with a nice bass. I'm so impressed with this amp. My installer was also impressed with how this system sounded. I would recommend it highly.

I run 2 of these in my boat....wanted to be able to hear some bass over the sound of the motor while wake boarding....got what I asked for....good speakers for the price.

It was easy to install and looks good. I wish it was little smaller than current size. It works fine.

I've had this terminal installed over a year now. It sits just tight enough on my battery post to start the car but loose enough to be easily pulled off by hand. (Battery is a Duralast Gold.) Never had a problem at all, but it's still a worry that it may have the possibility of falling off.

The ABS plastic adds quite a bit of bulk to the overall size. The plastic cover ended up rubbing against the hood and hood holder of my car. After a few months it ended up with a few slight blemishes. You'll also need to ground the LED to the chassis of your car. If you aren't able to tuck the ground connection away you'll end up with an ugly thin wire in plain sight.

Overall, I would say that it looks good.. But isn't all that practical. The plastic scratches easily. If you're running an amplifier or two, the voltage AT the battery isn't likely to be the same at the amp keep that in mind.

Not planning on purchasing again.

I am not sure what the other reviewer's problem was with his unit.

Because of his review I purchased this with some hesitation. However, I've used it now for a couple of months and it works.

It is not the best quality in the world. However, it is more convenient than having to install a tank heater, and, it works just as well.

The other reviewer may have received one that was not properly manufactured. On the other hand, he may just not have read the directions.

First, you must plug this in and place it in the oil reservoir while the oil in the vehicle is still hot. That is a tradeoff for the economy of a unit that consumes only 90 watts.

This is perfect for my tractor here in the San Juan Mountains.

When a storm is coming in, I always start up the old tractor to make sure it is working, then, shut it down and hook up the battery maintainer (charger) Deltran Battery Tender 12-Volt 800 milliamp Waterproof Battery Charger to make sure the battery is fully charged. After hooking up the charger to the battery, I remove the dipstick and insert this unit into the oil tube. It maintains the oil at a safe operating temperature of about 100 degrees. The heat seeps from the oil reservoir (under standard principles of fluid and thermal dynamics) into the surrounding metal.

I also use a battery wrap which warms the battery. Kats 22200 80 Watt 36" Battery Thermal Wrap If you charge up your battery, then, an hour or so before you use it plug in your battery wrap and warm it, you will be certain to have full cranking amps in even the coldest weather.

The result is a tractor that starts immediately during a raging storm at temperatures of -20 and below.

The 90 watts for a dipstick heater is 1/10th the cost of heating up the tractor if I used a tank heater (usually around 1,000 1,500 watts), and, it works just as well, and, the heated tractor is ready to work immediately (as opposed to a demand tank heater that takes (usually) at least a couple of hours to warm an engine).

Admittedly, this technology is from a bygone era. However, "if it works . . . . don't fix it."

Description says "Three prong grounded plug". This is not accurate. It is a 2-prong ungrounded unit that shorts out when submerged in the pre-heated oil. I debated purchasing this item due to the negative reviews. I am a retired industrial maintenance tech and yes I followed the directions. Since they were calling for blizzard conditions I thought it would be worth the risk. I installed it in my (warmed up) tractor and plugged the unit in. The following day after the storm subsided, I went out to see if it was working. It was ice cold and I could see by the discoloration that it had indeed heated up and shorted out. I ordered a replacement and I am hoping that I will get the proper 3-PRONG grounded unit.

Just an update: Amazon sent me a replacement. It also was another ungrounded heater. However, they changed the description of the unit to a 2 prong, ungrounded heater. I returned the unit to Amazon. Once again, great customer service.

after reading the reviews i bought this with some hesitation. i had the same affect as the other two guys. i pluged it in one night when the oil was warm and it didnt keep the engine warm but it kept the oil warm resulting in better oil flow for the first couple minutes of start up. the next night i went to use it again with the oil hot and the next morning when i pulled it out and touched it it was ice cold (0 degrees out). i tried it two more nights since then and it does not work anymore. next time ill buy one that goes in the lower radiator hose

Dont waste your money like I did on this heater. I tried it on three different vehicles and could not get it to fit on any of them. It was to short to reach into the oil on every vehicle.

Purchased this tire gauge from Amazon thinking it would be a well made tire gauge. The all plastic construction gauge's valve tip broke on the second tire. The gauge is easy to read in daylight, but it is useless if you cannot check your tire's pressure.

Flashed dumbly but would not display a pressure in any unit. Complete waste of cheap plastic. Also, I don't think the "battery saving" feature works as the backlit screen was found persistently goin' on several min later. Horrible.
