Optima 8003-151-FFP RedTop Group 34 Starting Battery

Order carefully and verify the part number you need by visiting the Optima website. This battery can not be returned. What we have here is an Optima 8003-151, Model 34R. Amazon also sells the 8002-002, Model 34 which is a mirror image of the 34R, the POS and NEG terminals are reversed. The battery arrived fully charged and in perfect condition.

Last month the description was correct " Optima Batteries 8003-151 34R RedTop Starting Battery". The current description is misleading.

Also the first two images are of a model 34 reversed. Hence "Optima" is backward but is does accurately represent the location of the POS and NEG terminals on a 34R.

I tried an Optima Red Top with high hopes of getting at least 5-6 years out of it.

Well, try 3 1/2 years and no pro-rated warranty.

No extra battery load, just standard equipment.

Was maintained with a trickle charge as they recommend on their web site.

The batteries futuristically good looks are misleading; as the overall performance

was surprisingly a disappointment.

Perhaps the technologies will improve in the future, but for now...

you won't get what you pay for with Optima.. :(

I just replaced my Optima battery after almost 9 years of trouble free service on my 1964 Ranchero. Standard automotive batteries only last around 2 years here in Arizona because of our up to 120 deg heat. The heat just plain kills batteries, even service free ones, because the water boils out and the batteries die. The sealed jell style batteries are awsome. I just had my 2nd Optima Red fail within a year. It has no reserve capacity left if I leave my interior lights on for just a few hours (about 1 amp draw) the battery will no longer start the engine and has dropped to 10.5 volts. (I have volt meter on the battery and an amp meter on the non-starter circuits.)

Granted I know what ruined it just once last year I left the headlights on for a few hours. I would expect such a mistake to reduce the reserve capacity by 20%, but this deep discharge reduced the Optima by 90%, basically ruining it.

Sure, I can return it for a warranty replacement, but this time I bought a Diehard AGM and will sell the replacement Optima on Craigslist.

When you consider how many they sell (not a lot like Diehard or Interstate) and how much they pay for advertising, you have to deduce

that these are cheap internals with a lot of markup to pay for the advertising.

Also, warranty wise, I have to return it to the original seller; you cannot take it to any old Optima seller.

In short, if you have $150 to experiment on a cool looking battery, give it a try. If not, stay with a proven brand.

I bought this based on a recommendation from a co-worker who purchased this at a truck stop. I am so glad that I did. Its like a power strip...for your car! The 3 Edison plugs are spaced just right so that you can fit 3 wall warts, the USB power is a major plus, and the car power port on the other end is of course a necessity. I love the rubber cover for the USB jack for when it is not in use (It is made of thick, durable rubber, and mine doesn't even show signs of wear).

As part of my job, I often have to drive a truck. That being said the cord is long enough to either set the strip on the dash, or the floor. I have never had a problem with heat, fan noise, or power draw. It is also pretty heavy duty, especially considering it doesn't weigh very much at all. The strip has 4 screw slides on the back for more permanent mounting.

My only complaint (Other than not having more outlets, which just isn't practical running off of a car power port), is that the L.E.D. indicating that it is turned on could be brighter.

This item is awesome for long trips, or for when you have to wait in the truck for a long period. I would say this item is a must for truck drivers, long trips with kids, or those people with tons of gadgets. 5 out of 5, I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I've recently broke one of these by accidentally smashing the plug. Entirely my fault (not the product's). But it works so good, I bought another. Its so nice to charge and use a laptop (and other gadgets) while traveling. I've tried a few 100watt inverters to power my 85 watt computer, they have all failed me. This 150watt inverter does what I want.

The bad...

The fan is noisy, but so are most all inverters of this sort. Plugging it in is a little finicky to get a connection it could be my car's receptacle. The power light is dim; tough to see on sunny days.

The good...

I use this to power either of my two power-hungry laptops. It has never flinched nor got very warm. This item seems more durable than average. It has a heavy gauge power cord that is about 2.5 to 3 feet in length. The power light is dim; doesn't light up the car at night. The 12volt receptacle is nice.

Other...

The long shape may not work for everybody. I leave it in my car's jockybox, and it barely fits. I bought mine from Town Pump (gas station) for a higher price than Amazon's.

We were concerned that it would be powerful enough to run the PC but it worked perfectly. With 3 teenagers on a long road trip it was critical we had enough juice to power all the toys and cell phones. It powered my 17" Sony Vaio PC. We had a Samsung Tab plugged into the PC. Solidly built, well designed and I tested it with a volt meter and found it to produce 117 VAC (AC volts) on all three outlets. I did not test the 12VDC port or the USB port. The manual is well written and informative. The power cable is 4 feet long.

This unit produces a modified square wave to approximate a sine wave and product literature claims this is sufficient to power "most" laptops and electronic devices safely (some electronics are very sensitive to wave form). I will be using the PowerDrive to power a recently purchased Dell Vostro laptop. My expectation is that this advertised to run electronic devices safely so I'd be surprised if it didn't.

It worked well for 2 weeks and seemed to provide good power from a cigarette ligher outlet. The fan is much louder than most similar units and can just barely be heard above the car noise at highway speed. The fan is completely off with no load, but turns on full for any significant load. I powered laptops with the unit for two weeks, then I connected the unit to a handheld car vacuum. The vacuum ran for a few seconds and the inverter died. No user replaceable fuses were inside. The fuses I did see were not blown. An important lesson.. always test inverters with full loads before the warrenty is up.

Received this inverter a couple of weeks ago and I am happy with its performance. I am preparing for an extended photography trip across the US and needed an inverter that met my power requirements, was quite while operating, and built to last. There's really not much to review but I figured I would counter the other (misguided) review on this item. The charger works just as fine for powering the Zune while in the car. I pretty much leave my Zune in the car and this lets me do that without having to periodically bring it inside for charging. The part that goes into the cigarette lighter is rather large so take that into account if you have any kind of obstructions around your power socket. The only other thing I noticed that surprized me a little was that the Zune display stays on when connected to the charger and playing music. There's nothing really wrong with that but I was just expecting the screen to go dark like it does when it is not connected to power. Oh, I also like the coiled cord which makes things a bit tidier than having a lot of loose cable cluttering up the console area. I recommend this product.

Had mine for 8 months. Little button on side of Zune connector either broke or fell off. This locks the connector into the unit until you use a pointed object to push in on the locking pin while pushing "button" on other side of connector. Trick is to not stab yourself when connector lets go.

Noise is probably dependent on vehicles electrical system. I get some low level noise in my '09 Toyota, but not in my Dodge.

I'm going to buy another, because it does work well.

It's nice to add modern electronics (Bluetooth, GPS, iPhone controls, Voice Calls) to my 98 Corvette, all through a single head unit!

The Good:

1. I can put all of my music & music videos on a USB stick.

2. I can stream Pandora through my iPhone using Bluetooth.

3. I can stream my iPhone using Bluetooth.

4. Siri works just fine through the head unit.

5. The voice calls are very clear on both ends (I did buy an external mic and have never used the one on the unit itself).

6. When I connect my iPhone cable through the USB interface, the album art from my iPhone and from Pandora both appear on the screen.

7. I can control Pandora (basic functionality like pause & skip, but not changing stations) and iPhone (full functionality) through the interface.

8. The GPS controls are easy to use and the voice prompts tells you well in advanced of what's to come.

9. The GPS has several nice configuration features, like it can warn if you¡¦re going a certain percentage over the speed limit. I had it set to 30% over the speed limit and it was practically going off every time I drove the car, so I turned it off. º

9. I really like the interface for the Tuner as it is both digital and shows the old school radio bands.

The Bad:

1. The touchscreen is not as accurate as I'm used to on the iPhone. I sometimes have to push the song 2 or 3 times before it takes. Or when I¡¦m trying to scroll, it will do a select of the song or video.

2. When entering an address on the GPS, you have to know it exactly, right down to the zip code or the exact city. I tried to find a street and because I didn't know the exact city, it wouldn't take it. The GPS preselects street names as you type and is based on the city & state information. It doesn't show you streets that are similar to what you are looking for. If there is an option to turn off the pre-selection, I haven't found it yet.

3. I haven't figured out how to get the clock to show when the screen is closed

4. If you have a good sound system in your car, you have to know how to setup the crossover frequencies, otherwise, your music will not sound good.

5. If you are watching a USB video and click the menu button to select another video, it stops playing the music as soon as you click the menu button and before you select another song. It would be nice for it to continue playing in case I choose not to pick a new video.

6. If you are playing a video and then switch to say, the tuner, when it returns back to the video, the picture is sometimes blank but the sound is there. You have to skip to the next video and then back to the one you were watching originally for the video to kick back on.

The Ugly:

1. If you unplug the USB drive or your iPhone while it is playing, it doesn't recover nicely. Sometimes it will crash/freeze and you have to power it down and back on again.

All in all, I love the unit even with the issues I mentioned above and would highly recommend it to anyone!

i did my research on this item before i bought it, i watched videos of the operation, read the users manual and was completely impressed. when i got it in the mail and installed it, i was even more impressed. after having it for about a week now and playing with the options, it blows my mind away all the things it can really do and how easy yet complicated it is. the sound is crystal clear, the video is amazing, the small programs with the unit are like no other and are very useful. My most favorite is the trip log. if your wife or the kid were to take the car out, after the car is returned, you can see where they went turn buy turn, how long they were there for, how long it took, were they stopped along the way, what speeds they traveled at, how long it took to get to the speed. And all of that is viewable on the map, so you can see if they hit 80mph on a side street lol. i love this thing, one of my buddies i worked with likes it so much he's buying the double din version for his truck.

This is the best 1 din out there everything is straight forward and easy to use. Screen is clear and crisp. This thing is amazing im running the builtin amp at 2 ohms very very very loud and clear no problems. Navigation is good and allot of POIS Bluetooth work awesome. This must be good, because I installed it in my wife's car and I have not heard any complaints, except that people complain there is noise in the bluetooth phone connection. I have the same microphone as her last radio, and I have tried to adjust the level, but still complaints.

I received this headunit in the mail last week and couldn't wait to install it! Now there is a learning curve every radio upgrade; and I'm still getting used to this one. I love the GPS feature and all the options that are available; can't wait to test it on a long distance road trip. I'm glad I choose this model over the VZ401. The interface is pretty user friendly and the display is one of the best I have owned with any previous radio; this is coming from someone who has owned probably 30 different ones over the years.

As other people have stated a small knob for quick volume turn down would have been the thing to make this thing nearly perfect; but in time I may be able to adjust to the up/down button.

My requirement for this product was being able to export GPS tracking logs and the HD camera. Honestly, having two cameras was a bonus.

Good:

1. This product was very easy to use and install. It will start when it senses power on and will automatically shut down after power-off. Minor issue was the device initially powered on with Russian as its default language, so there was some difficulty in understanding the on-screen dialogs.

2. The proprietary program does a good job of exporting the videos and a Google Earth KML file of the track logs.

3. The fields of view are quite wide and clear at the edges.

Bad:

1. The proprietary viewer program is the real downfall of this device, especially as exporting is the requirement. The camera will format the SD card and then install the viewer program onto the card, which will then allow viewing the files. However, the program requires a minimum 4 GB card and will format it with a hidden partition, which is where all of the data is stored. Thus, the proprietary program is the only way to get to the data.

2. The micro SD form factor is difficult to find suitable cards locally and even harder to keep track of.

3. There are two cameras on this unit, one facing forward and one facing the interior of the car. Each captures a 640x480 image and this device is "HD" only in the sense that both images displayed together make it HD. Thus, the saved, exported output is only an AVI file with its own manipulation problems.

Improvements / Wish List:

1. Get rid of the proprietary program and allow generic output formats.

2. Improve the GPS system such that an external antenna is no longer required. This is problematic in final installation with hiding the cable.

Bottom line:

I would recommend this device, given it limitations, and rate it at only three stars because of that proprietary program limitation. Otherwise, the device meets my requirements.

I got this item 3months ago but display time does not match with zone even you set as local time.

Why are 6 more words required ?

Adding to the last review, I figured a way to extract the video files off the SD card. The video files are AVI and stored in a "unseeable" partition that windows will not display. Using a free file recovery software ( I used TestDisk ), I was able to pull all the videos off the disk. The are stored in 2min blocks, with numbering that increases.

Overeall this unit works great for what I need it for. The windshield suction cup mount is huge and in my opinion, is a vision impairment so Im working on a "homemade" mount that will put it up by the rear-view mirror and out of the way.

Although sold for automobile bulb sockets (for which it works great), this product is actually silicon grease. "Dielectric" means that the silicon grease is an electronic insulator. See also Fantasea Silicon Grease Lubricant, "for all types of O-Rings"

Although ordinary automotive grease is very damaging to rubber products, silicon grease is great for ANY rubber products, and for use on ANY electronic connection (other than high-voltage switches). Not only does silicon grease prevent corrosion at electrical contacts, it also improves existing contacts.

THE DREADED BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

After about 5 years of flawless operation, recently I got a "blue screen of death" on my computer, mentioning a parity-check error. Attempts to restart the computer just brought up the same "blue screen of death"---I could not even get to the minimal Windows configuration for trouble-shooting. I removed the memory boards, cleaned the contacts with isopropyl alcohol, applied a thin layer of silicon grease to the contacts on the memory boards, and reinstalled the memory. Since then (a year ago), the computer works perfectly.

More recently my other (ca 10-year-old) computer has been getting progressivly flakier for about 5 years---if I opened and closed several demanding applications and/or surfed the web extensively---a lockup or crash was likely---so I routinely rebooted several times a day to avoid the lockups/crashes. Occassionally, even freshly booted up, I could not access certain files or folders (the only solution was to clear the recycle bin, delete the file or folder, and then restore it from the recycle bin). Running registry repair programs and other diagnostics did not help. Completely reformating the harddrive and reinstalling Windows and all my programs from scratch did not help. A new harddrive did not help. About once a month, the computer crashed with a parity-check error message---which began me thinking that I might have a similar problem with the memory board contacts. So during my last annual "spring cleaning" of the inside of the computer (particularly the CPU cooler), I also made a point of pulling the memory boards one-at-a-time (blowing any dust out of the contacts with canned air), applying silicon grease to the contacts, and reinstalling the memory boards. Since then (3 months ago) the computer has been working like new. REALLY!

It would be a good idea to coat the contacts of any boards or memory with silicon grease before installing.

EXAMPLES OF AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRIC USES

Does your car refuse too start when it's been raining for days? You could replace the entire ignition harness (for perhaps $100 plus labor)---or just coat the wires with silicon grease, being particular generous at the spark plug and distributor connections. No need to wipe off excess. Also pull off the spark plug wires (one at a time so you don't confuse them) and put a dollup of grease on the contacts.

Replacing your car battery? This stuff is far better than the petroleum jelly your father used to protect the contacts from corrosion.

EXAMPLES OF PLUMBING USES

Is your bathroom faucet leaking? Disassemble it, clean it, and rub silicon grease into all of the rubber seals. Let it set, wipe off excess, reassemble. Does your toilet run on and on after you flush it? Same solution.

EXAMPLES OF USES AS A LUBRICANT

Is the A/C plug for your juicer hard to push into the socket? Add a generous coating of silicon grease and stick it in and out of the socket several times to lubricate the socket. Petroleum-based grease or oil may conduct electricity and burn---making the connection worse. Silicon grease will not conduct electricity nor burn.

Is the door lock of your car stiff? Same solution, slather silicon grease on the key, and lock/unlock the door several times.

IMPROVING ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

Does the right or left channel of your headphones drop out or sputter? Silicon grease will improve the connection.

Do you have to shake your TV remote to make it work? Silicon grease will improve the batteries connections.

Have you noticed? 40 years ago leaking battereies destroyed uncountable flashlights and transistor radios. Everyone knew that you had to remove batteries when not in use. But then battereies improved in the 1980s and 1990s and almost never leaked. But once again, batteries are leaking and damaging equipment. Silicon grease will at least protect your contacts from minor leaks, and will improve already damaged contacts.

RECONDITIONING RUBBER PRODUCTS

Does wind noise at high speed because of a poor door seal drive you crazy? Coat the seal with silicon grease. Rub it in, let it set, wipe off excess

Do you have a classic car with stiff dried-out rubber seals? This stuff is first aid. If they aren't too dead, silicon grease will bring them back to life, and protect them from further deterioration.

Sliding windows in your van hard to open/close? Coat the channels with silicon grease.

Within reason, you cannot use too much. Unlike ordinary oil and grease silicon grease does not attract dirt.

CAUTION

Silicon grease is NOT a replacement for petroleum-based grease as a lubricant for continuously moving mechanical parts. While silicon grease can "recondition" rubber belts and rollers (in computer printers, etc) it can also make them too slippery to do their job (instead use CaiKleenTM RBR Liquid, oiler dispenser concentrate 25 mL). Silicon grease can interfere with repainting cars---so it is best to avoid getting silicon grease on painted surfaces, particularly if you anticipate repainting the surfaces in the near future. In high-voltage switches, arcing can create silicon carbide which will deteriorate the contacts.

Using a little Permatex Dielectric grease on the spark plug connectors will help remove them later as well as sealing out moisture.

I installed this product this weekend in our 2008 Honda Pilot. I don't consider myself very mechanically gifted, but I was able to install the device successfully without any problems. It took about 30 minutes worth of research online to learn how to remove the radio, and 60 minutes to actually remove the radio, install everything, and put it back without scratching up the dash. The sound is terrific and I appreciate the ability to charge my iPhone with it and also like how the song names show up on the radio. It seems like a durable piece of equipment that will last.

I bought this item a year ago for my 2007 EX-L non navigation Honda Accord with XM Radio. I specifically selected this item because of the capabilities of the track info being displayed on the Accord's head unit. It works as advertised. Let me get more into why I gave this product 5 stars. i initially planned on installing the usa spec by myself after watching a few youtube videos. I was able to remove the panels, install all the necessary cables, drill a hole in my cubby, hook up my 3rd generation Itouch and it worked flawlessly. Where I got into a little bit of trouble was securing the adapter somewhere out of the way; I was never able to install back the cubby because I couldn't hide away the cables enough or the adapter. Luckily, living in LA i have plenty of indoor swap meets to choose and each one has at least one car stereo store in it. I called the nearest swap meet and asked how much for installation and I was quoted $35 dollars. I went back to my car and removed the usa spec and put all the panels back easily without the adapter and cables. I arrived at the swap meet, gave the guy the usa spec and the installation instructions downloaded from the usa spec website and he went to work. After installing the adapter he called me over to test it, he hooked up his iphone 4 and he was impressed with the sound quality and that it was a better product than anything he had in stock. At this point he begins to hide away the cables and secured the adapter and under ten minutes all the panels were back in place.

I am using a 3rd generation itouch with the usa spec and my favorite apps to use are Spotify (with premium subscription to be able to download songs directly to the itouch) and audible (for listening to books). I used the usa spec in direct mode with both apps since the spec usa is designed for the itunes app, otherwise, it will be in locked mode playing only the music in the itunes library. The only annoying thing is that every time the itouch is connected to the adapter it starts playing the first song in the itunes library. With both the Spotify and Audible app I was surprised to see the track/book info on the stereo display which was a bonus treat. I was curious to see how the Pandora, iheart radio and slacker apps will work with the usa spec, I connected my itouch within range of my wi-fi and the track info was displayed on the radio screen. Again, I was curious and grabbed my wife's iphone 4s and none of the apps, except for audible, displayed the info on the radio. Then again my wife has not upgraded any of her apps on her phone so that could be the cause for not displaying the info. Now, I am curious to see if the iphone 5 or the itouch 5th generation with the required adapter will be compatible with the usa spec. I hope I could help someone with their purchasing decision and best of luck.

This adapter was very easy to connect. The provided wiring gave no issues. The most challenging part was finding a place behind the dash for the box. Works great!!

I got this charger to put behind our couch to power our various Idevices. Up to now we had an ugly extension cord with multiple adapters plugged into it. The problem with this setup is that the adapters sometimes get caught in the couch and heat up a lot. This could present a problem so I went looking for another solution.

I have this device connected with a couple of long USB cables I got from Amazon RND Apple Certified Lightning to USB cable (6 feet/white) made for iPhone, iPad, iPod. After using this charger for a couple of days it seems to do the job as well as the original power adapters from Apple. I have seen no degradation of time it takes to change and IPAD mini or an Iphone 4S. Also it doesn't seem to get very hot since it is out in the open, and is great for tight spaces since it folds flat.

I would recommend this adapter for tight spaces like out couch or for usage when you travel, it is small and multiple people can charge at the same time.

Often, we tech folks (and even those who would not use that term to describe themselves) tend to associate white accessories with Apple products. Years ago, this was actually nearly always the case but now, other companies make their products in white in a probably deliberate effort to trigger that association for iUsers. iLuv has done it here and in a way that is, in fact, worthy and functional.

It performs exactly as advertised. I charge my iPhone5 and iPad2 at the same time and both charge as fully and as quickly as they do with the Apple-branded charging plugs. It surprises me that Apple has yet to produce on of its own multi-device AC chargers and has left the entire market of growing need to the growing range of 'after market' product manufacturers. Kensington, Belkin along with iLuv and several others have stepped up to meet this crying iConsumer need.

The international adapter (for European use) is helpful for world travelers. I just use the good ol' US-AC plug. As has been pointed out by another reviewed, the user needs to be deliberate about the placing of this device because it CAN block access to adjoining outlets. Often, though, this issue can be easily mitigated by selecting the plug position for the device more carefully. I especially like the narrower profile and use it behind a couch that no longer needs to be conspicuously pulled out from the wall.

There are other dual USB-port AC wall chargers out there and at least a few others offer enough amperage to charge two iDevices concurrently. This one is at least as good as the others and the narrow profile makes it a favored choice for both travel and home use.

I travel a lot, with an iPad, an iPhone and other USB-powered devices, so a portable charger that has two outlets, one of which will supply the 2.1A for an iPad, is a good thing. Functionally, the iLuv RockWall charger serves that purpose, but it is much larger than it needs to be and is awkwardly designed so that it tends to block other outlets and is difficult to safely remove from an outlet.

I've uploaded two photos comparing the iLuv charger to the PowerGen Dual Port USB 2.1A 10W AC Travel Wall Charger which I've had for about six months. Both have a 2.1A and .5A USB port, but the PowerGen is much smaller and doesn't block outlets the way the iLuv does. Removing the iLuv from an outlet is problematic if you follow the instructions on the charger by grasping it above the buttons (that need to be pushed in to release the swivel), you're pulling at an angle and putting strain on the hinge and prongs. If you do the natural thing and grasp closer to the prongs, you put yourself at risk of shock.

I don't know why iLuv makes a big deal about the interchangeable plug, since they provide only one and I see no offer to sell additional plugs. It doesn't help that the iLuv's price is much higher than the PowerGen's either. I see that PowerGen now has a 15W version with a swivel plug, if that's what you want. It is still smaller and cheaper than the iLuv. The iLuv says it is a 15W charger (the PowerGen I have claims to be 10W), yet the iLuv's power consumption rating is lower.

Lastly, I want to gripe about the overpackaging of the iLuv. There are three plastic pieces inside the cardboard box, none of which are coded for recycling (two of them appear to be PET.) The package could have been half the size and still adequate.

This is a pretty simple product, and while some manufacturers seem to mess them up from time to time, this one packs a little punch to it as you get a charger with 15.5 watts of charging capacity in comparison to the PowerGen model so popular here on Amazon that does 10 watts. It charged up my 8.9" Kindle Fire from a fully-drained battery to 100% in 2.5 hours, all while simultaneously charging my phone.

While pricey at $24.95 in comparison to other dual chargers here on Amazon, if speed of charge is one of your considerations, as well as having enough power to charge a Kindle or iPad, while simultaneously charging say a phone or other USB-charging device, I would recommend this one. I like this one so much I'm getting an extra one for a travel charger for my laptop bag.

FM Transmitter USB Charger

This guy... I had another FM transmitter, but it had issues with heat and would constantly power off so I bought this. My goal was to have a USB charging port as well as a 3.5 mm female plug so I could use my phone's 2 in 1 usb/headphone cable and only run one wire up to my phone mount. This product can handle that, however, I have a Droid Razr Maxx and the first time I plugged this baby in with USB connected and powered it up it started to smoke. Not a ton, but enough to wonder if it was going to burn my car to the ground while I was driving. No worries, though, I continued to use it and it hasn't ever smoked again. The phone has also never said it was charging again, but my last FM modulator couldn't charge my phone either, so I wasn't too worried. This guy only has 6 channels, another worry for me before using it. But fear not, this thing is like it's own radio station compared to any other FM Modulator I have ever used. It can cover up a weak radio station with no effort. This is why I gave it 4 stars.

I would like to meet whoever is going to charge triple A batteries in this thing, though. wtf? To me it's a waste of space, but whatever. It doesn't really hurt anything to have it. What if you come across a pack of 3 rechargeable aaa batteries, you know? The only two things that make this lose a star is the fact that it has a button for powering it on rather than a switch. You have to long-hold that button for like 3 seconds to power it on, then press it the number of times you want to get to your channel. The power plug only goes out 90 deg like you can see in the picture, so in my car I have to have the LED lights faced down and it barely plugs into my cig lighter. Sometimes I'll get it powered on and go to switch to channel 2 (a slightly cleaner channel, I have never tried anything past the second channel) and boom I wiggle it while pressing the button and it falls out of the cigarette lighter just enough to power down. A minor issue, but it would be worth 50 dollars if it had a power on/off switch and a switch to change channels so you didn't have to cycle to your channel on each power up. I paid $20, I see it's down to $10 today, so I would say it's a steal if it works in your auto.

Overall, I think I'm going to go fishing one more time and try to get one that handles all of my needs and works well. However, I plan to keep this guy around in hopes that it plugs into the next car I own, or maybe I'll keep it in the GF's car so I can still use it from time to time. I'm half tempted to grab another at $10 in hopes that I just had a bad solder on my USB plug, but I'm pretty sure the razr maxx just uses an ungodly amount of power even though it should be on the USB standard.
