Motorcycle / Bike waterproof Handlebar Mount

I ordered this waterproof case so that I could mount my Garmin nuvi 255w auto GPS to the handlebars of my mountain bike. The case arrived and included the mounting bracket, as well as foam inserts that allow for padding, in case you have a smaller GPS. It fit my nuvi 255w perfectly and will easily fit a Motorola Droid, or the newer, larger Droid X (which I plan to be using the case for once I upgrade my cell phone).

The mounting bracket installed in seconds. The clamp which goes around the bar is already rubberized and has small ridges that help secure it tightly. The bracket also includes a ball socket, allowing you to rotate it to a portrait orientation if needed. It allows for about 40 degrees of movement from center, letting you tilt the unit if needed. The front window is clear plastic and feels heavy enough to withstand regular usage. My Garmin touchscreen still worked just fine through the plastic. The zipper which encircles the case is vinyl and hides the zipper track, creating a rainproof seal. My GPS/phone will definitely be safe even if I get caught in the heaviest downpour. There is a quick release built in to the bracket as well. It requires a little force to remove it, which is a good thing. I'd rather have it too stiff than have my GPS falling off. There is also an access port at the bottom of the case, in case you need to run headphones and/or power.

I never take the time to write reviews, so I hope this goes to show you how impressed I am with this product.

This case is terrific! I have it on my Yamaha V-Star 1300 Tourer for about three months, and it works very well.

Pros:

Fits 1" handlebars perfectly, no slipping, secure feeling.

Fits Nuvi 255W just fine.

Easy to use the touch screen through the plastic.

Great value of cost and function.

Easy to remove case from handlebar mount to store GPS.

Can use the cradle the GPS provides if you don't want to use the waterproof case.

Opening for wire is great for power cord, yet is flexible enough to keep water out.

Easy to adjust the angle to accommodate different handlebar bends.

Cons:

Cannot turn off unit without opening case (but that's the tradeoff for waterproof, though).

Lightweight plastic construction makes me a little uneasy, looks like the handlebar mount can crack if accidentally overtightened. But again, this is a great value item. If I wanted commercial grade, I would have bought the more unsightly RAM mount.

Not able to permanently affix to handlebars, nor is it lockable but hey, what more do you expect at this price?!

Here is what I found after riding with this thing on my bike for 1 day.

1. It rained the first day that I installed it, which gave me a chance to test it's "WATERPROOF"ness. The pouch was sealed before the rain started and I rode without touching it for about 20 minutes. In those 20 minutes, the pouch filled up with water. The water collected at the bottom of the pouch. The lining turned into a sponge and separated from the bottom.

2. It is also not clear if the pouch is securely attached to the mount. I removed the pouch from the mount, while I was assessing the water damage. Afterwards, I put it back on and continued to ride. A few minutes later, I accidentally bumped the case as I was stopping. The pouch separated from the mount, fell on the ground and got driven over by 2 cars.

Luckily, I was just testing it out and did not have my $500 cellular phone in there as I was intending to.

Also, I agree with one of the other reviews. This this is ugly. It protrudes very high.

Purchased this to mount my Garmin 765T to my Honda VTX1300R. Works great and have used it in some light rain. GPS is behind a fairing so this mount will have no problem keeping mine dry. Easy to mount and included some rubber spacers which keep it from rotating on the bars while pushing the touch screen and protect the bars from scratching. Took it on a 280 mile trip and was able to tighten the screws a bit when I checked them at the destination, so I would recommend a little blue Loctite to keep vibration at bay. If the screws loosen fully you will lose the nut out the back of the mount. I glued the nuts in from the back so this won't happen. The nuts are recessed in a hex well so only a screwdriver is needed to tighten things up. Very intelligent design feature since most bikes have windshields which make getting a wrench behind the mount difficult. Granted the mount is plastic but it is a thick high grade plastic and I have no worries about it's durability. Touch screen works fine through the clear front panel with no reduction in visibility. Mount holds the GPS in place well, never vibrated down while riding and it takes a firm push to displace it once positioned. The locking collar on the ball swivel never came loose due to vibration after 600 miles on the trip. GPS was a breeze to fit into the case due to several sheets of foam that come with the mount and can be stacked until the unit is kept in place tightly and even cut to make room for your power cord should it not plug in at the top or bottom. I mounted mine with the power cord coming out the top so the zipper tab wouldn't scratch my speedo cover. Very nice mount and I highly recommend it. Excellent value and quality.

The wall charger does it's job. I just can't figure out why the screen has to be on while it's charging. It seems to think that it's connected to the computer.

The car charger also does it's job as charging it. But you can't use the GPS while it's charging in the car. Because it also thinks that your connected to the computer.

Both use the USB type of connector to connect it to the GPS

The tip of both chargers is the same and won't fit the Automotive Suction Cup Mount so you can't take advantage of the speakers on the Mount. You'll have to get the Garmin 12-Volt Vehicle DC Power Adapter for the StreetPilot C510 and C550 (010-10747-03) to make the mount work. Which is what I got eventually.

I bought a Garmin Zumo 450 navigator for my bike. I also want to use it in my truck so I bought the windshield mount and the Gomadic cigarette lighter plug that was recommended by the "other buyers who purchased a Garmin also bought these items" section on the website. Everything came and I went out to put it in my truck and guess what...? The "tip exchange" piece doesn't fit the Garmin 450. Why do they sell you Garmin 450, a windshield mount that fits the Garmin 450 and then sell you a power cord with the wrong tip? I guess it's so you'll just have to order another tip for $5.95 (plus $5.00 shipping) which will fit. RINKY DINK! At least they should send the tip that fits the unit you buy!

The zumo takes a standard mini USB connection like most phones except the iGay. I bought this not knowing and i have tons of adapters like this already.

The system doesn't seem to want to charge the item, and it is constantly running out of power. In addition, with the windshield mount, I get no sound. The wall plug-in works fine.

Works great charging the IPOD independently of a computer. The IPOD standalone charger by Apple costs $30 and can only charge from household current. This setup costs half as much and works for AC household plus a seperate item that uses a car cigarette lighter.

I purchased the black set of wall and car usb power adapters for my IPod Nano 2g and as far as I can tell they do not work. I plug them in, and then plug my IPod into them, and the charging symbol flashes for a few seconds, however about 4 seconds later the charging symbol goes away.

Guess I'll have to end up purchasing the more expensive version anyways...

The first unit failed after a couple weeks and then after installing a replacement unit it failed again. Complete junk that I wouldn't rely on. Also, be careful that the seller you buy it from through Amazon is an authorized dealer for USA Spec. I bought mine from Audiosavings.com through Amazon so USA Spec wouldn't repair my unit and it had to be send back to Audiosavings, which took some communication and time. I do give Audiosavings high marks for their customer support though, so far at least.

The install in my 1999 Honda Odyssey could not have been easier. Just pry off the bezel surrounding the stereo/heater controls with a screwdriver and you have access to the screws that hold in the stereo, remove the screws and just plug this adapter into the rear. I tucked the box behind the cup holder drawer and routed the iPod wire down to the small storage box at the bottom of the center console (below the radio).

It works as advertised but you'll need to read the instruction manual as it's not too intuitive. I just put the radio onto CD-6 so I can control the music directly on our iPod touch (2nd gen) or iPhone 4. You can still use the steering wheel controls to skip songs like you're playing a real CD, which is nice. Woud buy again and would recommend to a friend.

My wife has a 2005 Honda Civic EX Sedan. After moving to a new state, there weren't enough available frequencies for a Radio iPod adapter. After researching iPod interfaces, most forums, recommendations, and "How-To"'s used the USASPEC brand. We've used this interface for a year now and I'm still getting husband points for installing it.

The hardest part of the install is the access and dash removal. Almost every plastic part from the rear center console up to the radio had to be removed. While this isn't difficult, it's very cumbersome. The next biggest challenge is accessing the rear of the factory radio. You will need to pull/push/pry in multiple ways, but once you know the trick it's pretty easy. In the end, the connections for the interface are really simple and come together quickly -2 minutes at most. Use automotive tape to secure it somewhere inside your dash and run the extra long iPod connection to anywhere you would like before reassembling your car.

My biggest complaint is the terrible instructions that are included in the package. There are only a few toggle switches, but you'll need to make sure everything is working before you reassemble your dash. Despite all the available functions, you'll only use the "Disc 6" option which allows you to use your iPod as normal (selecting play lists, etc on your iPod), but the forward and reverse on the dash can change songs too. Look for a YouTube "How-To" for better instructions on how to use the interface.

I thought this would be a good purchase to replace a failed Bulldog remote starter. Out of the box the install was easy and the instructions were really good. I got it installed in an hour or so. Checked everything out and it started on the first try. I was pleased at that point. After that the honeymoon was over. 3 out of ten starts the remote just buzzes at you with a red LED. If you hit the button for 3 seconds the car will flash it's lights so I know it's not out of range. You try to start it again and the red LED just flashes at you. Maybe the next time it will start the car I can't figure out what the pattern is that makes this happen. Both remotes do it. So it has to be something with the brain telling the remote that it can't start.

Yes, I did check the manual and there is nothing on what a red LED means. Nice. I called tech support and the answer I got was take it back to the place that you had it installed. I told the guy I installed it myself. He explained to me that support for this product is not available to DIY installers. only authorized dealer installers are able to get tech support. His first answer to my problem was to hit the button twice. WTF? Does the guy even know his own product. His next question was were did you buy it from. I told him Amazon. He said the only retailer on-line authorized to sell this product line is Crutchfield. So Buyer beware if you have a problem with this thing and need some help. So if Crutchfield is the only authorized on-line reseller then what happens if you install it yourself when you bought it from them?

1 week later

So after not getting a response from Direct Tech or the local rep. Who by the way was a total moron. RT Grim. I figured I would triple check everything before sending it back. I was able to duplicate the problem. There isn't anything in either the users guide or the installation guide. Which by the way is some kind of super secret document never to be seen by those other than the privileged Direct tech dealer/installers. Try searching on the net for it. There DIY line is pretty much the same thing without as many features. Anyway, the problem turned out to be the hood pin switch. When the car drove around over bumpy road the chassis of the car tweaked enough to just make the hood switch. When one of the safety inputs causes the remote start to not work with this model of remote starter the response from the remote is a solid red LED and a really annoying beep sound. THIS IS NOT DOCUMENTED ANYWHERE IN THE MANUAL AT ALL!!!!! WTF!!!!!

All they needed was a one line bullet point telling you anywhere in the reference guide what a solid red LED response code is. I find it pathetic that a local installer and the tech support didn't know what this meant. Now that it works I am happier with the purchase. But because of the crap tech support and how Direct tech ideally only wants to deal with dealers I won't buy from them again.

Oh, and when the unit is out of range it does flash the red LED. But in a certain sequence which is also not in the manual. So overall the documentation will tell you the connections but that's about it. The trouble shooting section sucks. Since this thing can talk with the remote the fail code should relay back to the remote so that the user can tell what the failure is. How hard would that be? Yes, with a solid red LED it does sort of tell you it failed. But, since it is not in the manual and you have to get to the brain to see the LED for the diagnostic code it isn't to user friendly. If it fails to start the diagnostic code should flash on the remote.

This remote start was installed in a 93 Toyota P/U, Manual and fuel injected. My vehicle had no special options, such as power locks, windows, installed alarm, etc.

I'm currently stationed in Alaska and a remote start is pretty much a necessity up here. I did some research before purchasing this system and determined that this was a no/low frills unit and would exactly meet my needs. Below are a few things that I would point out to people interested in purchasing and installing this themselves:

This unit will integrate into a vehicle with an existing "factory" alarm. This was determined by the options in the wiring diagram to attach to the existing alarm system.

You will also have the option to have this remote start to "power up" x2 or x3 options. Two are high power options, one of which I attached to the blower motor (as recommended in the instructions), the other high power options they recommended connecting to the rear defroster. If I remember correctly, there was an additional 12v accessory output which wasn't a large wire/high power option. Just don't EXACTLY remember...

Another option that this system includes is automatic lock/unlock of the door locks. My vehicle didn't have that feature so I can't exacly go into depth on the setup and operation.

This system has a sensor that will help to know when to shut the starter down on the vehicle when it has "started". Once I read how this worked I was VERY happy with this purchase and the operation. Many other systems require the system to "read" an iginition source from the vehicle's ignition system. This one takes a prilimary voltage setting "base line". It then initiates the starting sequence, once it reads that there is a higher voltage available when compared to the baseline it shuts down the starting operation. Ultimately, this is reading the battery voltage. When the vehicle "starts" and the alternator is producing charging voltage the system understands that the vehicle MUST be running because of the higher voltage available, and shuts down. AWESOME! My truck, being older sometimes dies after it has started. Combine that to -40* temps we have experienced this week (prior to me writing the review!!) When the remote starter sensed that the voltage dropped back down to the baseline voltage, even AFTER having started (a failed start ultimately), the starting system re-started the truck. The ONLY problem I've experienced was due to my install and the options I then chose. For instance, my truck will sometimes start but not have a high enough RPM to "excite" the alternator to start putting out voltage. I've had the truck experience a "hung starter". I let the truck run its course just to see what would happen, basically so I would know in the future what to expect and to know if I could depend/trust this device to meet my needs in Alaska. Well in the instance of the hung starter the attemt was continued for about 3 seconds and then shutoff. At that point the truck shutoff and the system reset. My truck then started on the second attempt by the device. THis is by NO MEANS a fault of the starting system, just an issue with my truck. The wiring harness did come with an option to connect to the negitive side of the distributor (helps the system to know that the vehicle is running). I had opted not to use this wire. While I had considered re-installing the wire into the wire harness, I decided that my current configuration is probably better suited for my needs. My reasoning for this is if my truck doesn't have the alternator charging and the system continued to run ultimately the battery would be getting discharged. The winters up here are hard enough on our battery and starting systems, so I'll deal with the slight grinding an a very rare ocassion (I've only seen it happen once) and know that when it is running that the battery is also getting charged.

On installing:

By memory, I only used the two 12v input (constant 12v connections) off the power source going to the key

One wire back into the "key on" wire in the vehicle

one wire into the "ignition" wire on the vehicle (initially the truck woudl crank but not run until I found this wire)

One wire grounded*

Neutral safety/automatic safety switch (was actually connected to the same "grounded" location" as the ground wire

Bypassed my "clutch" safety switch. I cut these wires and soldered and taped them. The vehicle always now thinks the clutch is pressed in.

One wire to the 12v positive side of the blower motor system (Environmental control system)

One wire to the 12v positive side of the brake light switch (safety to shut the system down)

One wire to the 12v NEGITIVE side of the light relay out of the steering column. **NOTE! You may need a relay if your system isn't 12v NEG!!!

Small push-button switch This actually doesn't seem to do anything, that is unless I failed to connect it to the control box. I may check on this later, but it is supposed to keep the vehicle running when pushed the vehicle is running. It didn't seem to work on mine. But as stated, it could be my fault. It is also used for "programming" and making changes to the options.

NOTE!!

There are two wires I "should" have used, but didn't for my existing setup. My vehicle horn doesn't work, so I didn't connect the horn wire and the "hood pin switch". I opted not to install that, but did install the supplied "warning" sticker. This is my vehicle and I'm well aware that there is a remote start on it.

"Installer notes" (if you will).

This is defaulted to running for 12 minutes. Not nearly long enough for the -40 and colder temps here in Alaska. The push button switch I mentioned above is supposed to be an option to changing the programming. My horn not working is part of my problem for changing the programming as you are required to react to horn beeps.

There is a supplied "toggle switch" which I believe to be an "off switch". There were not provided instructions on to where to put this. I believe it would be an interrupt switch to the negitive side of the control system, but opted just not to install it. I may have overlooked this in the instructions, but just stating it like they do the other break out of the wires coming out of the harnesses.

For all the additional wires I didn't need I just "yanked" them out of the harness while it wasn't attached to the control box. This eliminates the "rats nest" of additional wires under the dash.

Take some time!!! Pull out the instruction book and read through what wires will be required for your install. I don't intend for this to sound harsh, but if you can't figure out what you will need, take your vehicle in and have this professionally installed.

I'm pretty good at vehicle wiring and have installed car radios in past when I was younger. I didn't have any issues with installing this, but ONLY did so because this vehicle is old enough and operates off of 12v and 12v only. There are no different voltages on different systems for different readings. There is no way I would have tried this on my 09 GMC Sierra or the wife's 08 Mazda CX9. I previously had a Pontiac Grand Am and the aftermarket installed remote start later had a problem and activated the factory alarm. At that point the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer to identify the problem, back to the installer and have the system removed, and back to the dealer once again to have the security system reset. At that point it was driven back to the installer and a new system was installed.

The instructions CLEARLY state you MUST have a multi-meter, not a test light. I highly, highly recommend you do as suggested. The wiring diagram I had for my vehicle (Chilton/Hayes type manual) was absolutely WRONG with the wire codes and colors. I probably would have blown a fuse while trying to determine what wires I needed since the vehicle manual was wrong.

BITWRITER Programmer. Many times the manual describes going to a factory installer and having them program your unit to better meet your needs. I haven't done so and I've done a quick search. I've found numerous bitwriters (different ones) for under a hundred dollars. I'm positive that a factory installer will charge about $100 to "program" this. Just buy it yourself and you now can make the changes you need at your desire. (just a suggestion ;) )

In closing:

This device is awesome for my needs. Most all the "remote starting systems" out there are vehicle alarms with a remote starter option added on. This adds a bunch of wires and other problems that we as vehicle owners don't want to deal with. By eliminating the unneeded items, we have a simple and flawless system for starting our vehicles. I highly recommend this unit and firmly believe that it does its job and does it well. I currently can't say for the range of the remote, but I've tried it well inside of military buildings (all brick and metal construction" and when the unit won't start the vehicle it makes a loud noise to let you know that the starting attempt was a "no-go". (Oh, and the LED illuminates either orange or red... I don't remember).

The install is pretty simple, I recommend soldering the connections as recommended, scotch locks were not recommended in the instructions, but I have seen EVERY alarm and remote start installed with these. Use at your own risk.

Take your time and plan it out. Get a factory manual, it may be of help. I believe has an option to download free wiring diagrams (years ago) and they may still be available. Check that source prior to purchase if you're trying to look at ways to trim your total cost.

The remote is pretty small, but still doesn't look or feel flimsy. The key chain hole isn't large enough to add a non-supplied key chain to it, you would have to add it to the provided small key ring.

There is a location for an external LED (I believe), but also a LED on the side of the control box for aid in programming and status. But this is usually hidden under the dash somewhere...

Installed this unit in a 2006 Wrangler I live in MN and winter conditions are severe. This is a nice unit to just warm up the vehicle while it sits in the drive way covered with snow or ice. Range is great especially outdoors with no walls (300 yards or more). It's hard to rate or trust what they say about going through walls as every sitturation is uniques.

Yes this unit can be installed in 2 hours or less take your time and it will turn our to be a successfull install. My install is simply to start the Jeep and run the HVAC system I dont need it to turn on any dome lights, or roll up any windows. I dont have any security system to bypass or engage.

With 1 short click 2 way remote will sound a successfull tone indicating the vehicle recieved the start signal. The vehicle starts after about 2 4 seconds. The HVAC will run as last set when you exited the vehicle. The driving lights stay on during the designated run time. When you get into the car, insert key and turn to run postition step on brake and the system is transfered back to normal run control.

The system prohibits any effort to steal the vehicle. If the brake pedal is depressed with out the key in the run position, the vehicle shuts down. Thats the extent of my install. Other safety's can be set up (and included) to further protect your vehicle. (hood switch)

Tools that I used for this successfull install that were not included -

The product indicated that it was for up to 1200 watts, now I knew that it would not be able to transfer that kind of power right off the top. Well what I didnt expect that 750 watts would melt the power wire all the way to the trunk. Yes it was installed properly and I had the fuse block installed 10cm from the battery and the actual housing for the fuse melted as opposed to simply burning out the fuse...not normal. Im not quite sure if I just got a bad kit or what, but I can tell you this I did not go get the same one to replace it. :)

I bought this for the "8 gauge wire". There is no 8 gauge wire in this kit. At best it's 12 ga., but I think it's closer 14 ga. I'll use the fuse block on another project so I kept it. Note: I'm an electronic technician. I know my wire gauges. This isn't only a rip-off, it's dangerous. If you run a 'real' 1200W RMS through this you're likely to start a fire in your car, somewhere buried, where you ran the wires. Somewhere you can't easily get to. Somewhere that's going to keep buring until the entire car is a complete loss.

For #4 or #6 spades this is perfect. Light weight and cheap. The screws are 4-40 size and tighten nicely to provide a secure connection. It will do its job, but it is so light weight and flimsy I don't think I would be comfortable using anywhere near its supposed rating.

There isn't much to say about this product. Its a connector block made of plastic with a terminal barrier. It does the job, the plastic feels kind of light weight so not sure how durable it is going to be but it works for now.

I purchased both the Belkin Bluetooth Reciever Belkin Bluetooth Music Receiver and the BluBridge Receiver from two different locations and was going to return the one that I liked the least. So here is a very quick comparison. In the testing I also had one of my friends give his opinion as well. Here is what we both thought:

Belkin Bluetooth Reciever

Sound Quality: Amazing/Excellent 10/10sounds just as good if not better than standard wired 3.5mm audio connection

Range: 8/10 Line of sight maybe 20-25ft, although I hear that this also depends on your transmitter, I was using Lenovo s10-3t netbook integrated bluetooth and Iphone 3GS integrated bluetooth as source.

Connectability Ease: 10/10, once you have paired it, it stays plugged in to the wall next to your stereo. Example: I turned off my Lenovo s10-3t netbook, the blue light went out on the belkin receiver showing disconnect, I turned the netbook on a day later, immediately I notice the belkin blue light come back on the belkin receiver, and the connect is so fast that the windows 7 startup sound/chime came in through my stereo. Obviously if you connect your computer to a different bluetooth audio device, you will have to later tell it to reconnect to the belkin. But the whole process is super smooth.

Portability: NOT PORTABLE, stays plugged in to wall, this is also a PLUS, because it always stays very ready for easy connect.

BluBridge 3.5mm Mini-Jack Rx Receiver

Sound Quality: Excellent 9.8/10, wired and the belkin bluetooth sound were slightly better, it was more of a slightly fuller/richer, slightly louder sound with the belkin or wired connection. Note: it is only very slightly better sound. My friend and I could only tell the difference when we used the same song, same sound source connecting back and forth very quickly. In the BluBridge's defence it produces 9.8/10 sound whether on battery power or connected to usb charging.

Range: 9/10 Line of sight maybe 25-30ft, basically I got an additional 5ft of range from the same bluetooth transmitters. The signal did seem stronger, when I would start to reach the max, the signal would break and then regain clear again for 3-4 more feet if the transmitter was stable. With the belkin as soon as the signal started to break, the signal was gone.

Connectability Ease: 8/10, this is mainly because the unit has a battery power saver that shuts off the device when not in use. So you have to hold down the button on the unit for 7 seconds, then connect with your device (Iphone 3GS or Lenovo s10-3t netbook)

Portability: Extremely and Easily Portable 10/10. I use it off of battery power mostly, I have it plugged into my Harman Kardon Go + Play High-Performance Portable Loudspeaker System with Dock for iPod (Newest Model) which can also operate off of battery power (8-D-cell batteries). Makes for a excellent portable sound source.

Testing: Used the Belkin RockStar 5-Way 3.5-mm Headphone Splitter (White) with Harmon Kardon Go and Play, 2 computer inputs, Belkin bluetooth input, and BluBridge bluetooth input, and Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer. Everything was connected at once and audio was crystal clear, from anysource, this really speaks volumes for the Belkin rockstar. And if your wondering, yes I did play the movie "Gone in 60 seconds" from my HTPC throught the belkin rockstar outputing to both the Logitech z-2300 speakers and the Harmon Kardon Go and PLay at the same time, sounded really good.

Before Very Close scrutinizing side by side testing, I thought I was going to be returning the Belkin, because the range was about 5ft less, and it wasn't portable. And playing with them separately 20min apart I nor my friend could tell a difference in the sound Quality, so it is very slight. But I ended up keeping them both. I recomend the Belkin if you have a stationary high end stereo system and have no need for bluetooth portability with your stereo system. Other wise I recomend the BluBridge 3.5mm receiver if you think you might ever want to hook it up to portable stereo. The Ease of connectiblity at the end of the day with the belkin is what made me keep it.

They are both EXCELLENT PRODUCTS, read details so see which fits your need better, I found a need for both.

PS: at the end of the testing my friend said he is going to buy the BluBridge bluetooth receiver, he like it because the sound quality was still excellent, it was portable, and he liked the look of it.

I ordered this item because I wanted to be able to watch TV in bed while my wife slept. Its great product but not for watching TV or video. There is a delay in the sound, it's like watching an old Godzilla movie, the people's mouth move and then you hear their voices. I tried it on three other TVs my laptop and my Zen video player and got the same results. I guess this is why they call it a Bluetooth Music Transmitter.

Set up : HTC EVO 4G in Car. Used this device to feed my stereo AUX input to avoid having to connect a 3.5mm jack to my EVO everytime I got into the car

Sound Quality : 5/5. Did some tests with this and a direct connection (with a friend connecting either one way or the other while I had my eyes closed) and I couldn't tell the difference.

Initial Pairing with Phone : 5/5 Very easy as the passcode is 0000, which the phone always tries as a default code, so I didn't even have to type it in.

Connection and Reconnection : 2/5 This is the biggest let down. Once the phone and the device lose contact (ie if you get out of the car to go into a shop, etc) they do not automatically reconnect. Instead you have to press the button on the unit, and also tell the EVO to reconnect. Manageable, but not as slick as my Parrot car kit, which reconnects automatically with no inputs from me.

Device Design : 3/5 Would have been nicer if the 2 wires you need to connect (power/charge and output to AUX) were on the same side of the device. This would have made it easier to mount it in the car

One other issue I had, which is nothing to do with this device itself, and has more to do with your cars electrical wiring, is that I was getting alternator whine through the stereo if I was charging at the same time as playing music. This is a well known phenomenon in car audio and is caused by a ground loop being created between your stereo and the input device. There are multiple correct ways to fix this properly, but I took a short cut and installed a ground loop isolator http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RNNWHC which cured the ground loop and the whining noise

PROS:

I've used several bluetooth transmitters and receivers over the past few years (including equipment made by some famous brand names like Sony and Blackberry) and this is the first tool which really has the solid range which I need. The specs for the range which are listed in the literature for this device are conservative, I believe. The range will always depend on the sensitivity of the bluetooth receiver, plus the power of the transmitter. In this case, Miccus has made sure that you get 200 feet of transmission range and 45 feet of receiving range when it is paired the weakest A2DP devices out there, and factoring in a wall/floor or two. You do not need to be in the line of sight with the device.

The Blubridge Home has a suave design. Those three circles you see on the front are buttons. You press and hold the middle button for three seconds to turn the tool on or off. Once it is on, you can press and hold either the Tx button (left) or Rx button (right) to pair with a foreign bluetooth device. It uses standard bluetooth blink colors (flashes blue and red when pairing, solid blue when connected and receiving, solid red when connected for transmission, flashing red or flashing blue when it is searching for its connection). The lights are in a line inside the case and shine through subtly through the holes and jacks in the back, and the pair of slits along the middle edge of the front.

It is powered by USB. It has a mini-usb jack for that purpose in the housing just below the antenna.

Included in the package are an AC adapter which delivers power to a standard USB jack, a cable which goes from two RCA plugs to one 1/8th inch audio plug, and a male to male 1/8th inch audio cord about a foot long. I have yet to figure out what they intend that last item to be used for (it would have been more useful, if they had included a female to female 1/8th inch audio adapter).

The antenna can be unscrewed and replaced with a larger one if you know where to buy one.

CONS:

Only one device can be paired at a time. It cannot transmit and receive at the same time.

There is definitely a pulsing background sound which happens if you adjust the volume on the device wrongly.

Connected as a transmitter, it will never disconnect from the bluetooth receiver. So if you leave it on after going to sleep, for example, it'll stay on all night long. The upshot of this is that the batteries in the receiver can really get worn out quickly.

OTHER THOUGHTS:

Be aware that this is an A2DP (stereo audio) device ONLY. First generation bluetooth devices used a low quality monaural handshake protocol called HSP (or HFP)... and this is not supported hence the one or two complaints you see in the reviews here.

In addition, be mindful that the output of audio equipment which is designed to send a feed to amplified equipment can be a bit grainy. That sounds good when booming out of speakers (it gives a "breathiness" to the sound which adds a sense of heightened emotion). However, it will sound awful with earbuds or headphones. If you're having this problem, it may help to turn down the volume of the origin of the sound before you transmit it with the Miccus Blubridge Home. This effect can't be said to be the fault of the Miccus device.

This tool is supposed to reconnect with the device it has been paired with automatically when it comes into range. I haven't tested this fully because I'm always changing bluetooth devices and needing to re-pair.

I've been reading reviews of Miccus bluetooth devices for about a year now, and given the unqualified enthusiasm people seem to have for the company's products, I have faith that this device will serve me well in the coming years.

This is my second try at a bluetooth transmiter from a 3.5 audio jack. Compared to the first attempt, the Blubridge was a dream come true. I was able to pair to my Plantronics Voyager 855 Stereo Bluetooth Headset with no problem. The first device that I plugged it into after charging via the micro ubs charger was my ipod. The sound was loud and clear. I then plugged it into my netbook and watched some streaming video, no problems. I also have been using it at work with my work PC to listen to streaming audio while I move wirelessly around the office. I do start loosing connectivity after about 15-20 ft, but I only need it to work within that range for my needs. My favorite feature is that I can use it while I have it charging via the usb connection. You just need to turn it back on after you plug it in, as it turns off when it connections to the charger. Another weakness is the user manual is pretty brief. I have serveral questions about why the light blinks the way it does, but it works great. So with few complaints I give this device 4 stars with a strong recommendation.

Well I never could use this item because it does not fit an iphone with a case on it. The connector cannot fit all the way in to the iphone before the body of the unit hits the case. This should be indicated in the description. I contacted the merchant and they offered no solution.

great price lures you in, and the product description sounds like it does everything u want it to, but the actual product isn't that great. the remote doesn't always work for me and the charger cord is really short. So short that if I don't find a really good spot for it, the whole thing will come out of my iphone if it gets bumped or jarred. then it's a pain to reconnect it while driving. my advice is to spend more money on an fm transmitter, this one is priced low for a reason!
