I own a 2004 Prius. I bought another in 2005 for my wife. We are definitely NOT "tree huggers" but love the rock solid mileage (51-54mpg), utility and quality of the car. The only exception is the poor quality 12 volt battery and how it is engineered into the bottom rear of the vehicle. The car definitely deserved the MotorTrend 2004 Car of the Year. The 200+ volt NiMH batteries on both cars are still fine. However, I've had the dealership replace the 12 volt battery twice in my car and once in my wife's to the tune of $200 each time (that's $600 in 12V battery replacements in the past 8 years). Again, this is the small 12 Volt Battery, not the "hybrid" battery. It seems that the stock 12V batttery, which is not even used to start the engine & is really sensitive to heat and deep discharge, is the only item in the Prius that's definitely sub-par. The rest of the car if solid & a marvelous piece of technology & durability.

I finally got tired of paying the dealership around $200 each time to replace the crappy stock battery with another new crappy stock battery. I shopped in several auto parts stores and Sears (Diehard) & Walmart. The 12V battery for the Pruis is really hard to find. The only aftermarket battery that's not a stock is this Optima Yellow (deep cycle) S26b24r. It has been specifically designed with the smaller (Japanese standard) posts to fit the Pruis so there's no need for the adapter kits. If you haven't changed out a 12V battery in a Prius, you won't believe what a relative pain it is. I'm mechanically inclined and have changed out many 12V batteries in other American and Japanese cars taking about 3-5 minutes each time (I'm slow). The Prius battery change is a whole new experience! It took me around an hour to replace the battery. (I now know why the dealership charges so much for labor to replace the Prius 12v battery). This Optima Yellow fit PERFECTLY in the remarkably tight space in the bottom rear left corner of the Prius. So far, so good. The Optima has a wound AGM mat instead of the flat lead plates and is sealed & maintenance free so that it should be more durable. It also has a larger capacity than the stock battery, so it should power more of the 12V electronics longer. We'll see.

This battery at Auto Zone was for sale at $280 that's right two hundred eighty dollars + tax! I bought through Amazon at Battery Mart for around $180 with free shipping and no (8.75% California) sales tax. A comparative bargain ($124 savings). It arrived from the east coast in about 3 days. I'm really happy with Amazon and Battery Mart. In the next 4-5 years, I'll see how happy I am with the battery itself. These Optima batteries have a good reputation in the marine & RV applications where deep cycle is needed.

This is a great battery. And this fits like a glove. In my 2007 Toyota Prius. This battery is a direct shoe in for the factory battery. The only thing you really need is a 12 inch extention and 10 mm socket and your ready to go. Time to do it? 35 mins. In 30 degree weather and snow. I'm sure in nicer weather it could be done faster and easier. This is not a hard swap just takes time because you have to figure your moves out. Oh, I charged the battery before I ever swapped them, It's just making sure one less thing to worry about. And make sure you keep a live charge on the wires to the car. Jumper cables and an old battery or a small battery charger like 1 or 2 amps is all you need. So you don't have trouble with the computers. It just takes time it's not brain surgery.

My original Prius battery (this is the accessory battery not the big rechargable) was dead too many times on my 2006 Prius with 60,000 miles. Without this battery you cannot start the car. So I searched the web and found this replacement which is better than the original one. I also found on the internet the info on how to replace this battery. The replacement requires removing a lot of stuff from the trunk. The replacement battery fit beautifully and I think I saved $100-200.

We now make it a practice to lock the car whenever we leave it which helps insure that things are turned off and doors closed, because the car will not lock unless everything is right. We hope to avoid draining this battery in the future by following this practice.

My original battery started acting up after 6 years, which was pretty good life in a car. If I left any accessory on after stopping the car, the prius computers were likely not to boot on the next try causing me to have to jump start. It seems as the only two options for the Prius Gen II are the factory battery, or this one. I have used Optima car batteries in the past and liked them, so it wasn't a hard decision. The battery is an exact fit space wise. It is physically a bit bigger than the 24ah battery it replaced (no smart key option on my car.) That size difference doesn't affect the install as the bracket adjusts in the car. The posts line up and are the correct size, and the vent connector plugs right in, no issues. Installation was a bit more involved than on the average car, but only took me about 30 minutes, taking my time. I just removed the carry strap that the Optima has, it just slides off easily.

Performance of the battery is outstanding, this is what the Prius should be equipped with in my opinion. It is a true AGM battery, can't spill and doesn't need to be maintained in the tough location on the Prius. The car's mileage has picked up by a few MPG now as the internal resistance of this one is probably much lower and takes a charge faster and easier and the car doesn't waste energy trying to top off the original battery that would no longer take a full charge. When I power off the car now, even that water pump that kicks in to save hot water to the vacuum bottle runs faster. I highly recommend this battery as a replacement.

This battery was sold as a "direct replacement" for the Prius. I assumed that to mean it would have the same size. After removing the old battery, I suspected the new one was a little larger. Trying to fit the new one in the car proved to be a difficult process, and confirmed my suspicions. The new battery was indeed about an inch or so bigger (both width and lengh-wise). What happened is that the front of the battery hit some excess body putty (used apparently to seal the areas from moisture) that was present in the well preventing it from sitting on the bottom of the well, whereas the old battery cleared it. I had to go into the battery well with a dremel and carefully remove off the blob of excess body putty. After removing and vacuuming out the excess putty, the battery then went in with a firm push down. Granted, another car will probably not have this excess putty and will fit fine. Also, the negative terminal is now closer to the side of the well, which made the placement of that negative terminal back on a little tight as well. After 3 hours or so of struggling, I was able to get it back together and it seems to work fine. Buyers should beware of this additional size compared to the Toyota original battery which may produce some fit problems similar to my experience.

DEWALT DC515K 1/2 Gallon 18-Volt NiCd Cordless Wet/Dry Vac

I bought this to replace a truly crappy Shark rechargeable vacuum. The DeWalt was one of four that I had decided on (the other three being the B&D PHV1800, Eureka 71A, and B&D CHV1500 in descending order of price). I ultimately chose the DeWalt because it uses a standard DeWalt power tool battery, has a washable filter, and was the only wet/dry vacuum of my selections.

The box contains the vacuum itself, rechargeable battery, fast charger (will charge a completely flat battery in about an hour), and a thin but complete owner's manual.

The DeWalt's design is all business. It's about the size of two irons or half a shoe box. The top has a very grippy rubberized handle that's set above a large (but not stiff) responsive power switch. It's very easy to turn the vacuum on and off with one hand and very difficult to do so accidentally. A plastic vacuum hose runs from the back of the unit over the top (the handle) to the vacuum nozzle on the front of the unit. You can easily pull the hose out of the nozzle to get into smaller crevices; put the hose back in and it's a normal hand vacuum. Underneath, in the back you've got a black plastic debris bin that's held in place with a beefy (but, again, not too stiff) latch. In front of that is the standard DeWalt battery pack.

Although it's one of the heavier vacuums out there, the weight is well balanced. You can easily tilt the vacuum in all directions without feeling like you're fighting the weight of the battery and/or the vacuum motor. You can vacuum vertical surfaces just as easily as horizontal ones. You CAN use the vacuum vertically if there's water in the collection bin; the bin seals tightly enough to the base that leakage isn't a problem. However, having too much water in there could make it splash into the motor assembly. So the moral is: If you've got water in the collection bin, empty it out before doing anything vertical (or hold the vacuum horizontal and use the detachable hose).

So, how well does it work? Quite well, in fact. The motor is very powerful and was able to easily pick up all manner of bits that I threw at it including drywall dust, small finishing nails, screw anchors, and cat hair from a wood floor. It also did an excellent job removing cat hair from upholstery despite its lack of a power brush or upholstery comb. In the car, it easily picked up all the sand, dirt, pebbles and occasional penny without any complaints, including bits that were embedded in a damp carpeted floor mat.

Emptying the bin is simplicity itself and takes less than five seconds to complete. The filter seems to be doing an excellent job so far; even with a bin full of drywall dust, there's no "cloud" when you turn the vacuum on again. I haven't yet needed to clean the filter but it's easily removable and is washable. (EDIT 03-24-08: I finally had to wash the filter. It lost about 70% of its suction after pulling up a buttload of spackle dust, so I removed and tapped the filter against the inside of a trash can. A HUGE cloud of dust was released. About a minute at the sink with a small stiff bristled scrub brush and the filter came clean. I let it dry overnight before reinstalling it; meanwhile I rinsed out the collection bin and cleaned up the unit itself. By morning it was back to its old self again, sucking up everything and scaring the cats.)

The battery lasts friggin' forever. Out of the box the battery had a partial charge on it that lasted about 20 minutes. After charging for about half an hour in the included charger I was able to vacuum pretty much every corner and edge in the house, plus my car, without losing any vacuum strength. A big selling point for me was that it uses standard DeWalt power tool batteries so finding replacements will be incredibly easy.

My only real issue with the vacuum is one that has been mentioned before: This vacuum is LOUD and does emit a power tool-like whine which some people can find annoying. I doubt it's any louder than my full-size vacuum cleaner but since it's held in your hand rather than being dragged on the floor, it's closer to your ears and therefore might sound louder. So far as 18v handheld vacuums I compared it against this one is about average in noise, and compared to all handheld vacuums I looked at this is definitely one of the louder ones. I therefore wouldn't consider this to be "bad design" but simply a consequence of a larger and more powerful motor. Even so, since there are other 18v handhelds out there which aren't as loud, I think DeWalt could have done a little something to quiet it down just a little more.

I also would have liked to have a transparent debris bin so that I could see how full it was. This feature exists on at least 2/3 of the handheld vacuums out there today. I recognize DeWalt's "yellow and black" design decision here probably overrode this as a possible feature.

The only other thing I would have liked to see on this vacuum is a few more accessories; namely, a shoulder strap (so you can walk around using the hose to clean things like window sills and such) and a few hose accessories like an upholstery brush or pinhole nozzle. Still, even with these minor shortcomings I'd definitely buy this one again.

I was excited to get this vac as I needed a commercial quality portable for the random handyman jobs my boss sends me to in between regular framing gigs. Having an extra battery and charger to use with my other Dewalt 18 volt tools made this the vac to buy. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I would buy it again.

Did you read in any of these reviews that it is LOUD? Well, it is. It is not just that the vacuum is loud, but that it is an extremely high-pitched whining kind of loud. If I use it without earplugs I begin to get irritable like when I have to listen to a broken car alarm, a yapping poodle (oh, isn't he so-o-o cute!), or a toddler who isn't getting what he wants in the supermarket candy aisle. I have tried to adjust the pitch by SLIGHTLY covering the air intakes and outputs with blue painters tape to no avail. It is like an 18 volt motorized whistle. The fact that the vacuum operates at a mere arm's length from your ears exacerbates the problem.

You figure that if you buy an 18 volt vacuum made by Dewalt that you are going to get some serious suction, right? Not the case with this vacuum, or at least the one I bought. My 7.2 volt Dustbuster is much stronger than this vacuum. When I'm on the job I usually need to pick up sawdust, wood chips, drywall dust, and small screws and finish nails. The Dewalt leaves something to be desired when it comes to these materials, requiring me to go over and over the dirty area to get all the dust, and leaving me to pick up the bigger debris by hand. It isn't a clogged filter either, as I keep the filter meticulously clean on this, and on all my vacuums. I find it hard to believe that the engineers on this project were content to let a Dustbuster outperform this cool looking vacuum in suction strength.

There are some solid points about this vacuum. First off, the thing seems to run and run on a fully charged battery. If it does have 1/2 the suction of the Dustbuster, at least it runs several times as long. In the end that may equal as much or more dirt being picked up per charge.

The batteries and charger are compatible with your other dewalt tools.

The vacuum is made of thick, heavy duty plastic that, so far, has endured all the rigors of commercial use, including being at the bottom of the Jobox under a heap of other tools. It is not fragile.

I have not had it clog up yet, even when the canister is full up solid to the dustport it keeps on vacuuming. I know this doesn't sound quite possible but it is my experience. It can deal with drywall dust which is the bane of many vaccums.

It vacuums liquids. It can be used to clean up while wet polishing counter tops or wet cutting concrete in a situation where water can't be allowed to go all over the place. I have used mine to drain the water from a low spot on a wet, leaky roof so that I could perform repairs.

The collection bin can be emptied and reinstalled in about 6 seconds. The HEPA quality filter is easy to access and rinses off under the tap. (I don't think that you are supposed to scrub this type of filter with a brush or anything as you may damage the rather delicate-and expensivemembrane.)

It looks way cool.

There you have it. The vacuum performed less well than I expected as far as its suction strength goes. It is annoyingly loud. On the other hand it is useful for wet tasks and I'm not afraid to let it get knocked around, it'll probably last many, many years. I just ordered a Makita 14 volt vacuum, which received glowing reviews here on Amazon, before I wrote this review. I plan on using the Makita to keep my client's floors clean of dust and debris and will use the Dewalt on other, task specific jobs.

Dustbuster that runs on my 18V batteries....hard to beat for convenience. Good battery life and pretty good suction, but it is LOUD with a really high pitched sound that buzzes in your ears. It comes with one XRP 18V battery which is about $60 so the cost of the vac is $70 or so. Was great to use in my attic rather than dragging out the big shop vac. I tried and returned the 2 gallon vac. This one has about the same suction and is cheaper and smaller. Hose detaches for cleaning in corners etc. Other than the noise...I love it.

For a handheld cordless vac, this works well. Suction is adequate for picking up sawdust, small nails, screws, drywall dust, etc. Used for the first time today on a wet clean-up and it worked great. No it won't replace my full size shop vac, but that isn't why I bought it. Its great for bringing into the house to clean up work messes that don't justify the large plug-in vac, or when you don't want to junk up the house-vac with work debris. Battery life is really good. Bought it about a month ago and have used it about a dozen times without charging again until today. None of the clean up jobs were significant just various wood dust and chips... but still impressive battery life.

Lost the original battery hold down on my 1997 Nissan Pathfinder. This was a good replacement. I had to cut down one of the threaded rods to make it fit the hood. It as a bit of a pain since you have to have a die to make it thread again, but otherwise a great products.

Great product , easy to install, stretches to hold battery well in place , rubber is good for vibrations especially in older trucks.

Worked OK, but took some redneck engineering to make it fit properly. It would not fit a wide battery. It seems to be meant work if you can put it directly across the battery. It does not work well if the tie downs have to be offset.

This is a convenient car accessory, that fits into the cigarette lighter and can charge USB devices such as iPods and some cameras and camcorders, but also serves as a 3-prong plug for lots of small devices. It's not enough power to plug in a computer, it's only 30 Watts after all, but it is enough for most portable devices such as cell phones or Kindles. I've charged an iPhone through the USB and a digital camera through the plug at once and it works just fine. Just for the fun of it I tried a hair dryer and, as you'd expect, it was no dice. I like the fact that the charger plug folds in for compact convenience, and allows you to orient the USB and outlet plugs in various positions for convenience. There's a green light to show when it's on and available to charge. It does exactly what I expected, is compact enough to be useful, and it seems to be quite durable. Works just fine.

My family all has devices we travel with. Especially for longer trips. It almost seems like the car is getting overrun with stuff!! And they ALL need charged...GPS devices, ipods, phones, Kindles, ipads, etc. etc. And many of those items don't COME with car chargers...so you have to buy some additional thing, which is of course specific to each device (they ARE clever, aren't they!? ha ha!)

This gives me charging options when I am stuck in the car. Bottom line: Just a great little gadget that lets you avoid having to buy device-specific car chargers.

This device is well made and has a quality feel. The 2.1 amps is great for the USB charging ports (much higher than most), but 30W is a bit week for an inverter. Still that's enough for small devices and the limit is clearly stated here, so it should not come as a surprise. Note the inverter will run something like a GPS unit or Android tablet, PDA, ipad, e-reader, etc. and will also charge those devices requiring an A/C charger as long as they don't draw more than 30 W, so there are many uses for this on the road, in an R/V, and similar.

The price is reasonable, the quality is good, and it does what it says it will do. There's also a generous 3-year warranty. All in all, a handy gadget and a good value.

I absoubtly love the this car charger. I am not really a gadget guy but I do own a few things that I sometimes need charging like my kindle and a tablet. Both charge effortlessly with the Duracell charger. The connection is snug so I dont have to keep checking to see if my items are charging. There is not to say except the product works like it promised, is easy to use and compatable with my electronic devices that I use most often.

Once upon a time where ever cell phone and do-dad used proprietary chargers, a 30watt inverter could at least allow you to use what you have for at home on the go. This inverter does that well, but nowadays so many (thankfully) use some plug that can attach to a USB port or a charger with a USB output. Alas a double edged sword, on the one hand the included 2.1 amp USB port does a great job in those scenarios, but it almost makes the somewhat cumbersome size/shape of the device unnecessary (a stand-alone car USB adapter can accommodate that in a much smaller package).

Is this for you? Maybe, it definitely gets the job done, and it makes a great USB charger (2.1 amps is rather generous), but it can be awkward for some cars due to the locations of power ports.

I use this 12v charger with my Goal Zero Sherpa 120 battery Goal Zero 11102 Sherpa 120 Battery and it works great. I really like the chemistry of that battery, how well it holds the charge and how many cycles it supports. When I charge from the solar panels it can take considerable time and often on camping trips we end up moving from site to site and thus end up in the car for a limited time. Using this 12v charger I can get the right voltage to top off the battery and set us up for a few more days.

I purchased this item a few weeks back to build a little river ice chest system. It came pretty quickly, bout 4 days after I purchased it. There are some small ones that might be fine for a pool or whatever but nothing that i thought would work for floating down the river or sitting at the beach and being able to hear over ambient noise. Finally i gave up and started devising a way to build my own.

This little system is EXACTLY what i was looking for. I started looking around for head units that i could pair with a set of speakers but with phones these days there is no reason to even have a head unit anymore, this was perfect.

You can see the little system that i built in the pictures. I just got a waterproof box, put all the components in with this battery: Panasonic LC-R127R2P1 Black Large 12V 7.2Ah VRLA Battery with F2 Terminal and hooked it all up and VOILA... the perfect little river radio. I've played it for 2 hours straight and then several times for 20-30 minutes at a time and it still hasn't run down yet so i'm not sure how long it will last all at once. I'll update this after i get to use it for a full day.

I was really impressed with the sound that this produces. It's just as loud as the bose system i have but i don't mind carrying this on the river with me or to the beach and let it get sandy. I would recommend this system to someone that is thinking about making a ice chest radio or something like i have. I can't really comment on any other application.

We purchased two of these Pyle systems. One never worked at all and the other worked for about 15 minutes and got very hot. While it was working, we noticed that the "volume" control was not very effective and definatly did not sound like 200 watts of power. I would not consider this for either a boat or a cart installation.

Installed this system a year ago. This is not a marine product. Mounting screws are rusting, speaker housing is starting to rust and volume control no longer works. I would not buy anything made by Pyle.

Radar Detector Car Dash and Windshield Mount

In California, it is illegal to have anything mounted to your windshield. GPS, Radar Detectors, etc. If an Officer feels inclined to, he can actually pull you over and ticket you for a windshield mounted device.

I have an Escort Passport 9500ix. I was using the windshield mount it came with. However, I noticed that it was rubbing up against my windshield when I drove and (I'm sure) in part to the dual 12's in the back. It was evident that continual use of the supplied windshield mount would eventually lead to a damaged windshield.

This dash mount is working great. It holds my radar detector perfectly still away from the windshield, while obeying one of CA's many ridiculous laws. Plus, it elevates the radar detector to the perfect spot in order to detect laser without jeopardizing radar detection.

Really regret that I purchased this. I needed to mount a radar detector on my dash, and used the circular mounting plate. Even in just moderate sun, in two days the plate warped severely. When I tried to move it to another spot, the whole thing broke in two! Not surprising for a cheap piece of plastic. This is cheap junk -at least the dash mounting piece. In terms of radar detectors, using this product to mount on a windshield is also useless, as the mounting piece that attaches to your windshield is so large, it will degrade your radar detector -since it will either partially or entirely block it's forward "view". This is going in my trash can. Money wasted.

Mount won't stay perpendicular to the dash. The platform keeps falling down even after tightening. The velcro sticky looks just plain cheap. If you want a good mount check out Blendmount for the Passport.

Had to return it. I didn't realize the device sits on a platform and you velcro the two together. May not be too bad if you are doing a dash mount like the picture, but for windshield mounting the suction cup blocks the back of the radar detector facing the road. I need my detector to perform at its best and not risk detection performance from the suction cup.

I have a Passport 9500 radar detector. The windshield mount that comes with the unit is small and flimsy...keeps falling off the windshield. I purchased this radar detector mount, and use it on my dashboard. It came with everything needed to install. It is great! Not only do I need not worry about the detector falling off the windshield anymore, the use of the mounting plate lets me remove the detector easily when I need to (for example, parking in parking lots, out in the hot sun, or on short car trips). Besides the dash mount, you always have the option to use this mount on the windshield. Windshield mounting with this mount would certainly be better than the factory supplied mount, as it has a much bigger and deeper "cup" so it would probably hold better to the glass.

After buying Vipers top end models and seeing Python every time as a alternative recommendation. I finally bought this for my other car and I actually like it more then the Viper model.

The main things that stand out to me is that the buttons are hard instead of the soft mushy type on the Viper. Which for me is nice because when it snows and I've got my gloves on unlocking the car is so much easier.

The range is about the same I can start this about 1/2 mile away. I work in a factory so the walls are thick and a lot of them come between me and the car. However, I've yet to have any problems to get the car started where I work. It doesn't start the car if I go to the other side of factory but then again that's about 1 mile away and a lot of interference coming at it.

Bought for my wife, it works from about a mile way, which is the furthest i could find in the market. Got it installed in my 2012 Acura TL, the only drawback is that on newer cars the unit makes the car turn off when you open the door. The reason that I received was the car is too new and the software isn't available to ensure that the vehicle doesn't turn off when the door is opened. Overall happy with the product itself. Displays the temp inside the car, how long the car has been auto-started for, the battery life, and If the vehicle is armed with it's security. Personally I love that the battery display is there because the devise has an internal rechargeable battery so there's no guess if your battery is low and going to die. Plus it can be recharged with most cell phone chargers. Would definitely buy this again!

Coleman 72002 CL-600 9-Watt 17 - 24 Volt Solar Panel Battery Charger / Maintainer

This Coleman unit is rated at 600ma and a total power of 9 Watts. Buyers will be pleasantly surprised. The fair price for weatherproof solar panels is $10/watt...so this one qualifies although has been discontinued. My lack of a full five stars is because Coleman seems to overrate their panels by about 20%...or else they take it down to the equator to measure the power.

The unit is more or less what I expected and appears to be working well for my application as a trickle charger for my deep-cycle marine battery operating an ornamental iorn entry gate. This unit DOES NOT work with the Sunsei Solar Grip bracket which is listed as working with the Coleman Solar Panels (both are ICP Solar products); the bracket extexsions are not long enough. I was able to frabricate a simple clamp for the panel which did work with the bracket however.

I ordered one Coleman panel to see how good it was. I am a long time Coleman collector and this fits just right! Brand power at its best! I have had it about 2 weeks and have it connected to my campers battery. The camper has a stereo system which requires a "hot" lead to maintain memory so this creates a drain on the battery. After this panel, no more worries about the drain! This panel in full sun is putting out 22.65volts and drops to 17.3 on a cloudy day, even when it was raining!I ordered two more and expect them to arrive tomorrow. I will build a frame to attach the panels to and hook all of them to my battery bank (3 D/C NG27). I expect to be able to use them for a generator (less) week of camping next month! If it fails then expect me to update this review! I think ICP could have had a better way of connecting multiple panels though. Coleman dosen't supply the gang plug, so I have to cut the plug ends off and hardwire them together. Not too much of an issue though.

This is my first solar panel, as soon as i received it I wanted to verify the power it said it could generate by solar light, when I exposed it to day light its built in blue LED lighted and I checked the output voltage, it was more than 15VDC (open output), then I measured the shortcircuit current which indicates should be 600mA, I obtained almost 400mA, under a very sunny day. Quite good I think, I can use it to adapt to some small appliances's charger.

I have been looking for a cheap and easy way to keep a charge in my Jeep Cherokee's battery since it is a secondary vehicle and not driven very often. The NOCO 5W Solar Battery charger seems to have fit that bill. The battery charger seems to keep the battery charged even on these cloudy wintery days in Michigan. The instructions for use were pretty straight forward. So far the charger seems to be doing a very good job.

Reading some of the other reviews, I'm not sure if people realize how little power this solar charger puts out. If you look at a standard plug-in battery charger, they typically have a "high" setting of 8 or 10 amps, often a "trickle charge" setting of 2 amps, and sometimes a short-term "boost" setting of 50 amps. This solar panel is claimed to put out 180 milliamps, which is 0.18 amps, or about 1/6th of one amp. You are not going to be jump-starting your car on the spot, or lighting your cabin all night off this solar charger.

The manufacturer intends it just as a battery maintainer, to counter the gradual loss of charge that batteries experience when sitting unused. So long as you understand that limitation, it appears to be a fine product. The housing seems sturdy, and the wires or cables provided are decent quality. I'm thinking to mount mine somehow on my garage wall to maintain my motorcycle battery since that is something I do not drive every day. Perhaps by maintaining the charge in this fashion I can get away without bringing the battery indoors during the winter, since it is normally only discharged batteries that are in danger of freezing -which can cause internal shorts.

I remember how much tiny solar cells cost at Radio Shack back in the 1970's... although this is too small to provide primary power for more than maybe a single low-drain device, it sure is cool to get something like this to play around with.

Edited to note that these solar chargers come in 2 sizes, and Amazon is now unwisely mixing the reviews for related but different products together. My review here was regarding the smaller version, which is probably best limited to motorcycle batteries. If you are trying to maintain charge on larger car batteries, the larger 5 watt version would be a much better bet.

I was very pleasantly surprised how high quality this solar panel and all of the included accessories were. I have had a few other solar panels in the past and they don't even come close to comparing to the quality and design of this one. I put this panel in the windshield of my old truck using the included suction cups and it feels very secure. I love how slim the panel is and how the cable runs cleanly out the back. In addition, the quick connect cables are awesome and make attaching the right accessory easy.

This panel is the perfect size to keep a standard automotive battery topped off. In the past I have left my truck un-driven for a few months at a time and come back to dead battery. This panel provides enough current to counteract the natural drain of a battery, which is all I really need. I will buying more for some of my other equipment and I highly recommend this solar charger.

We found this came in very handy at campgrounds that had no electric hookup and also one that had problems with the power going out. We could keep the battery in the R.V. charged for a long time and just run the generator a little while at night if we needed the air conditioner or fans running. I plan to purchase one for the cars so I can keep this one in the R.V. at all times. Even if you don't plan to 'rustic camp', it is great to have on hand. It was a life saver when hubby had his tractor out in a muddy area of field and it wouldn't start. This made it so much easier to get it started again.
