I purchased the AS-900 to check out in-the-ears for my four-piece contra dance band. This type of music is all instrumental and all acoustic, but the playing environment is extremely loud and extremely reverberant. It frequently is not possible for band members to hear each other or themselves. Floor monitors or hot-spot type monitors often make the on-stage noise level worse.

I've used the AS-900 along with a set of the Klipsch image s4 buds for three dances. I'm currently the only person in the band using in-ears. I have not tried the buds supplied with the AS-900. For all three gigs, the transmitter was about twenty feet away. Here are my results:

1. The fixed frequency of the AS-900 has absolutely not been a problem at all. The three gigs were in the Philadelphia suburbs, in northern New Jersey and on Manhattan. I experienced no interference at all, as in none. These are all densely populated areas. If I were going to experience interference from ambient sources, it should have happened by now.

2. The Klipsch IMAGE S4 In-Ear Enhanced Bass Noise-Isolating Headphones (Black) work well and are comfortable.

3. The belt clip for the AS-900 receiver is just a piece of wire, is entirely inadequate and flies off at every opportunity. Very annoying. I've wrapped it with several layers of electrical tape, which seems to hold it on O.K. for now. If the tape does not hold, I'll fabricate a belt clip from sheet brass and hold it on with Velcro. Galaxy should do a better job with this belt clip.

4. The rest of the band complains that they can't communicate with me when I've got the buds in. I'll have to add an ambient mic. Hopefully that won't cancel out all of the noise reduction benefit of the buds.
