Schumacher PSC-2030T DSR ProSeries 10/30/200 Amp 6/12 Volt Manual Bench Top Battery Charger/Starter

I bought this charger to jump start cars with dead batteries. It is not capable of doing this.

These are the actual specs the charger produces.

At 50 amp draw the charger will maintain just over 12 volts, when current draw out of the charger is increased to 100 amps charger voltage drops to 10 volts, when current draw out of the charger is increased to 200 amps the charger voltage drops to 6.5 volts.

So a typical starter that draws around 200 amps (common 4 cylinder starter motor draw) and needs 12 volts to operate, this charger will not turn the car motor over.

The 10 and 30 amp ranges work fine for fast charging of a battery.

I contacted the company to discuss the battery charger's capabilities.

The tech rep said the charger is not designed to start a car without a good battery.

He recommended letting the battery charge for an extended period of time and switching to the start mode to start the car.

So this machine is good for events like leaving the lights on, etc. where a battery is ok but has lost its charge and you need to charge the battery up in a hurry.

This is a well-built charger, a nice addition to my garage. I would Recommended to Anyone who like's to buy quality tools.

Heavy duty charger, very well built. I enthusiastically recommend. Simple design without all the bells and whistles that can break later down the line. This one looks like it will last 20 years easy.
