I bought this for a Christmas present and soldered it together myself. It doesn't do a whole lot of voices (5 pitches with the choice for vibrato or not), but the cool part is that it works.

The kit goes together quite quickly and the instructions were detailed and almost foolproof. I have average soldering skills and had no problem soldering whatsoever, since it worked the first time I applied power. When soldering inspect the soldering joints frequently to ward off those mistakes. The sound was loud and robust, however, I had to use a long speaker wire (no less than 18 inches) when attaching a speaker, because if the speaker is too close to the on-board microphone the screech and howl from feedback is unbearable. I also recommend not using an extremely cheap speaker, although those tiny speakers will work, the effect is not quite as dramatic with just a bit better speaker. I picked up a cool mini speaker at the thrift store for one buck. Just whispering into the microphone produced a loud strong output, although I had to hold the mic close to my mouth when speaking. The vibrato effect was fairly decent, but the high and especially the low pitch button setting produced very nice sound effects, and the robot voice option was really nice. It sounded like one of the Dahleks on the Dr. Who TV show. I kept playing with this device for quite some time, very enjoyable. I am currently installing this kit into an enclosure.

Prompt delivery. Not very detailed instructions like the "learn to solder kit", no speaker included in kit, should have been included in product discription. much smaller circuit board than other kit, hard to work with. Not very happy with purchase.

It was a good learning experience. This little device does not have a speaker so I salvaged one from an old radio. Later I learned the necessity of mounting and protecting such a board when I broke it. The sound quality was minimum and something that a person would build on a breadboard for dis-assembly after proving to themselves they could make it. Make sure you look up soldering techniques. Cold solder joints look soldered when they are not. Youtube is your friend.

The construction of this board is the only 'educational' value it offers. The parts are durable enough for casual work, assuming you have some basic soldering skills. A novice to such work can easily overheat and ruin some of the parts, so be careful. The unit itself seems sturdy, with strong connection and switches. The output is garbage! You can barely hear anything from the speaker, even at maximum volvume. It's a toy, and should be considered such when you go to purchase a voice changer module.
