Mac/PC USB Wireless FM Transmitter for Home Stereo Audio

Mac/PC USB Wireless FM Transmitter for Home Stereo Audio
  • Links computer music to any car or home stereo without cables or wires
  • Transmission of the computer music to audio equipment which has FM reception function
  • Mini hi-fi, CD radio cassette recorder, car stereo, etc. can be used as wireless USB speaker for personal computer
  • USB bus-powered, no battery or AC adapter required

I was hoping for a simple FM transmitter that would retain a clear signal for at least 30 feet with a hope for up to 100 feet. This is NOT that transmitter. After 10 feet the signal was full of static. Within 10 feet, someone passing between the transmitter and receiver created static. Simply put, this was a not a reliable or useful device to create a decent FM signal.

This device was supposed to transmit a good FM signal to an radio in the house, but it didn't even get to one that was 10 feet away from it. It was a total disaster.

I wanted to be able to listen to my favorite radio stations on my office stereo, and my favorite local station often has static, plus I wanted to listen to stations all over the world with high quality sound. I originally wanted one of those systems that would communicate directly with my wireless router, so I wouldn't have to have my PC on. Those systems are fairly expensive, most over $100, and from reviews, seem to have issues. So, I thought, this is an inexpensive solution, and the one review at the time was positive, so I decided to give it a try. I don't really spend much time in my home office without the PC on, so that didn't seem to be a problem.

Anyway, this is a perfect solution if you want to listen to Internet radio on a stereo system. Sound quality depends on the station, presumably the bitrate, so it's not always great but if the stream is of good quality, the sound is wonderful. I've tried comparing the sound quality of stations I can get locally with their online versions, and you do pay a price. The depth of sound just isn't there, but the complete absence of static more than makes up for it. And for me, there's no alternative. Also, the fact that it streams audio from the PC means I can keep a large list of stations I want to access on the PC, which I think is far simpler than trying to do that on a component that communicates directly with the router.

Setup was a breeze, I literally just plugged it into a USB port, set the dip switches to the frequency I had chosen, set my tuner to that frequency, and that was it. Well, also had to adjust the volume on Windows, it thinks this is a pair of USB speakers, and the default volume was low, so increasing it meant that the volume on the stereo matched that of local radio stations. But really, it could not be simpler. Of course now all the audio from my PC goes to the stereo, it would be nice if I could confine the audio I want to go there to the transmitter and the rest of the audio to my PC speakers, but haven't figured out a way to do that. Not a big problem though. And, the audio from this decvice can be picked up on the other stereos in my home.

One quibble: The information I had at the time I ordered did not tell me what FM (tuner)frequencies could be used. I read an online review from some stereo publication on the device, where the author was actually in the UK (I'm in the US). He had said that the allowable frequencies were at the low end, around 89 MHz, so no trouble finding an unused frequency, which is necessary. When I received the transmitter, however, I found I was restricted to 5 frequencies around 107 MHz. I live one hour north of New York City, so finding an empty frequency in that range is a challenge. I had only one choice, 107.3, not used by a local station but there was significant bleed from others. However, when I plugged in the device, the carrier wave instantly overrode that noise, so it's not an issue, but I think it would make much more sense to use the lower end of the band. Someone near a big city might have trouble finding an unused frequency in the upper end. Or, add another dip switch to allow more combinations, and thus more possible frequencies.

Otherwise, I think this is a great product, and probably the best, most cost-effective solution, if you want to listen to Internet radio (or anything else from your PC) on a conventional stereo system.

This is the first time that I have felt compelled to write a review... mostly because I felt a lot of trepidation about buying this transmitter based upon the existing reviews. I was also a bit daunted when it arrived with multilingual packaging and semi-illiterate translated English instructions. What a surprise when it installed and worked... beautifully... just as stated in the instructions! Now... understand... this transmitter is only USB powered... don't expect it to reach throughout an entire household without static or hissing... but in my case, I've got it installed on a laptop at my desk... with an FM stereo system 8 feet away that's got speakers all throughout my home... so I can now listen to my own Windows Media Player playlists, Pandora, YouTube... anything my laptop can access, without draping wires across the room! I'm ecstatic! Be smart... it's programmable for several different FM frequencies, so pick one that isn't overshadowed by a local radio station and it should work fine! And since it's unencumbered by batteries or an AC adapter it's really easy to move from one computer to another... my son can plug it into his computer and listen to his music on his nearby stereo! Just don't expect this to make you a radio station... the range IS limited!

I have my stereo system on the opposite side of the room from my computer, approximately 50 feet away. Originally, I had planned to run wiring to my stereo system so I could play the mp3s from my computer on my stereo system. After realizing how much wiring I would have to mess with, I decided to try this home stereo transmitter. The write-up only says it works for Windows 98, 2000 and XP... and since I have Windows 7 64 bit, I wasn't sure it would work on my computer. The good news is Win 7 recognized this usb device right away. The bad news (depending on view) is that it automatically silences my PC speakers when plugged in which makes for a mild nuisance that it must be unplugged whenever I want to hear my PC speakers. It has several different channel selections. I've only tried it on one so far. It worked... but the sound is not terrific. It might be the station I selected, but there is a lot of static, and I have to turn both my PC sound and stereo sound up to hear the music I am transmitting. I seriously doubt that this would work at all if there was any sort of obstruction between the stereo and the transmitter (there goes my dreams of a pirate radio station LOL). I wasn't looking necessarily for high-end audio, so for me it is ok. It doesn't require any extra power aside from the USB which was a pleasant surprise. I also like this better than a similar battery transmitter I tried previously. The battery transmitter I use to own worked fine, but I forgot to turn it off, and the battery leaked in the transmitter damaging it. If your looking for a cheap transmitter that is relatively effortless to use, but has only mediocre to bad sound quality, this is probably a good option. If your an audiophile who wants hi-quality sound... don't bother with this product.

Powerful External Remote Amplified GPS Antenna Receiver for Garmin Nuvi

Powerful External Remote Amplified GPS Antenna Receiver for Garmin Nuvi
  • 1. External Active Antenna for GPS
  • 2. Allows more flexible antenna placement for better reception
  • 3. Magnetic base and water resistent

Update December 2010:

DO NOT leave this plugged into the GPS for extended periods when not being used.

It consumes a small amount of power, and will flatten the GPS's internal battery within a few days. There was an even worse problem in one of my cars which was not used for several weeks. It left the car battery TOTALLY flat when it and the GPS were left plugged-in to an un-switched 12v outlet (even though the GPS was switched off).

I still rate this item as ***** (5 stars) now that I know how to easily avoid a flat car battery. Just unplug it!!! All 5 antennae I have bought are still working fine (as is my now-ancient Nuvi 350).

Update December 2009:

I continue to be impressed and bought 2 more to give as gifts. AND No! I have no personal interest in the company (unfortunately). Improves speed of signal acquisition in my Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic especially noticeable when the GPS has not been been used for many days. Again, thoroughly recommended.

----------

Update April9 2009:

I was so pleased with this item that I bought 2 more so that they are permanently installed on my cars.

----------

I came across this item while browsing Amazon for reviews on new GPS. I needed to replace my 30 month old Nuvi 350 which was non-functioning displaying the dreaded "Cannot Acquire Satellites" error message. The 2 reviews on this antenna both stated that its use had resolved this issue. Further investigation confirmed similar results with other comparable antennae.

I had returned a Nuvi 750 because its performance was inferior to the 350. Seeing that the cost of both the antenna and shipping was minimal I decided that I did not have much to lose by ordering one.

When it arrived, I connected it to my 350 and dumped them both on the passenger seat. My hopes were high but my expectations were low.

In a very short time I noticed that my old 350 (previously destined for the garbage) was now fully functional. Further investigation revealed that signal strength is far higher that it had previously been. Signal acquisition is also very much quicker.

The antenna itself measures 1-3/4" x 1-3/8 x 9/16", has a 10' 1/8" diam. cord and has a powerful magnet for easy routing and exterior attachment. Since I am getting such good signal strength, I shall probably place it permanently above the dash where it will attract less unwelcome interest.

My other pleasant surprise was that it had arrived in Maine (from Texas) 3 days after placing my order.

When I finally replace my Nuvi 350, it (and this antenna) will continue to be used in our second car. My new GPS (maybe 765?) will be ordered along with a second antenna hopefully from the same seller (if not Amazon.com itself).

One caveat:

The antenna's plug could be improved. It is tiny and difficult (very hard on finger nails) to remove. I plan to attach a more substantial grip (maybe a 1/2" diameter plastic disc or similar shape) using epoxy glue to eliminate this minor problem.

This is not enough of a problem to reduce my 5-star rating.

FYI:

The Nuvi has a direct connection for an antenna rather than through its quick-disconnect mount (a design upgrade would be a major improvement!!!) therefore this item must be unplugged whenever removing the GPS.

This antenna performs as advertised. My Garmin Nuvi GPS was suffering increasingly intermittent connections with satellites. Eventually, it would only rarely locate my car, and several times I had to resort to my phone's GPS to get where I was going. Apparently, from browsing the web, this is a fairly common problem for Garmin units.

I was procrastinating before spending hundreds of dollars on yet another GPS, when I spotted a claim of this solution on a random web page, and then found it on Amazon and saw favorable reviews.

It still might take up to 30 seconds to locate the car when starting, but then the connection is rock solid. At about $20, it is a tiny fraction of the cost of a new GPS unit. The cable is longer than necessary, about 6 feet rather than the necessary 1 or 2 feet, but the antenna itself is compact. It makes putting the unit out of sight slightly more cumbersome, with the extra wire emanating from the GPS, a minor hassle.

[a few days later after looking at the extra cable for a while, I wrapped it around, out the door, and used the magnet under the antenna to stick it on my car roof the extra cable is actually a good thing.]

Instructions were minimal. The user simply plugs the cable into the little connection on the GPS antenna flap that lifts up from the back of the unit.

It worked for me, thanks Amazon and its diligent and accurate reviewers.

Our Nuvi 660 would no longer acquire satellites. After attaching this external antenna, it now works again. Does not come with any manual or setup recommendations.

Want Powerful External Remote Amplified GPS Antenna Receiver for Garmin Nuvi Discount?

I bought the antenna to fix my reception problem with Garmin 350. The signal reception has been restored and looks like works even better than original Garmin chip that broke.

So, if you need cheap fix for Garmin I recommend to try this before spending money on new device.

Disadvantage in my case the cable is too long

As many reviews have suggested, I also had a Garmin Nuvi 660 that had been slowly getting worse and worse reception until it finally would get no signal at all. I had it for over 3 years and traveled extensively with it, so figured it was just the end of the road. I read something about trying this product and figured it was worth a shot for the price. This completely fixed the problem, and in fact, never have any issues with the unit trying to find satellites. The only drawback is that for traveling purposes, having to takes this along is a bit of a headache. (I'm talking about on planes and using rental cars.) As I have stopped traveling and can just keep it in one car, then it is not really an issue.

Overall, very pleased. It saved me from having to buy a new GPS.

SOLAR ESA1 12V Male to Male Outlet Charger Cord

SOLAR ESA1 12V Male to Male Outlet Charger CordThere's nothing fancy about this cord, it's literally just 4 feet of wire with male plugs on each end. The solder connection look good inside, but the housing almost comes apart at the nose when not in a socket. When I got it the cost was 1/2 as much as another, so if you want something cheap and simple this seems better (and it has no LEDs or such that give even a tiny drain if you want to leave it between 2 batteries or such). But it also came with no instructions, so although you may think "You just plug it in don't you?", there are some things you need to think about and beware of that I'll pass along.

First, any power cord with male plugs on both ends has the possibility of one end being plugged into a source (like your car) and the other touching something metal (like a body part of the car) creating a "short circuit" which can start an electrical fire (unless a fuse saves you). So although the 12V won't zap you if you touch the bare end, just remember if you pull the plug on one end, always instantly pull the plug on the other end (don't ever leave just one end connected).

I thought they may have a resistor or such inside this to limit current flow thru it as power goes from your car to a "jump start" battery (which is it's advertized purpose), but it doesn't. Although some may think "That's good so you get the full car power faster to recharge it, right?", the truth is this also can create an electrical fire or blow the car fuse from the high power draw and small wires in this. For charging a battery with nothing drawing power that isn't very likely, but if it's heavily drained or someone used this to "jumpstart" from car-to-car that can become a problem. I did try this to recharge a "jump start" battery in my car after I'd drained it at least 50% and after 10+ minutes of recharging I pulled the plug finding the positive terminal was pretty warm. Nothing came apart or such, but any wires or connections getting warm isn't a good sign.

The one other concern I'll pass along is from seeing several places say "You shouldn't charge a sealed AGM or gel battery to more than 14V" (which is what's in most "jump-start" packages), yet I know that cars alternators usually bring the battery to ~14.75V. So charging in a car with this has the potential to "over-charge" it some, but at the same time it's best for the battery to recharge it ASAP after using it (not leaving it drained). So I'd still use it, but probably only for 15-30 minutes depending on how drained it is and battery size. (I also find it interesting that while 1V overcharge is a big deal to some, the trickle-chargers provided by OEMs of most "Jump-start" batteries have the potential to go to 17V+ if left on too long. So which is more dangerous, a higher current charge limited to 1V "overcharge" for a short time in the car or a slow current over a much longer time that can go to 3-4V over?)

very heavy duty and solid workmanship. It does exacly what it needs to and was very reasonably priced. I am very happy with it

Michelin MN-12279 Digital Programmable Tire Gauge with Light

Michelin MN-12279 Digital Programmable Tire Gauge with LightThis digital tire gauge is made by Accutire and is the same as their model MS 4751WC. I purchased this gauge because it is the only one I have found that measures to the Tenth of a pound. I do not like gauges that measure to a half of pound, rounding up or down. The Michelin has a nice feel in your hand and the dial is large and easy to read, even when it is dark, due to the illumination. I compared it to other quality gauges and found it to be very accurate. it comes in a very nice zippered case. If you want an accurate, easy to use and read gauge this is the one.

This gauge is the same as the MSI Accutire MS-4751WC Digital Programmable Tire Gauge. I think the "preset" buttons on both these gauges just get in the way, so I prefer the Accutire MS-5510B Racing Tire Gauge -now that its bugs(!) seem to be worked out.

This item's price stays at list rather than getting discounted like the Accutire equivalent. (I bought mine because the Accutire one was "no longer available", and I wanted to try this form factor in case they were discontinuing it.) If you want a Michelin logo, go for it. But perhaps you might buy the Accutire one AND buy a cute little Michelin Brand 12273 "Michelin Man" Digital Tire Gauge with the savings!

Buy Michelin MN-12279 Digital Programmable Tire Gauge with Light Now

I should have read the customer reviews before ordering this "Gold Box Deal" Michelin Tire Gauge. Just as other one star reviews also reported, the gauge arrives with dead batteries. New batteries also will die within very short order because the Michelin tire gauge autos on and off. If left in your car (where else would you keep it?) the simple act of motoring about will jiggle the on-off switch enough to quickly drain the batteries.

When it comes to dealing with cars, I am a newbie. I don't know how to measure tire pressure. When I saw this, I thought it can't get simpler and ordered it. So, recently when I got a chance to use it, it was easy to get the tire pressure easily. However, the problem is the inside tip of this device which is pushed against the tire valve is broken. The real problem is that the tire value has a metal needle and this tire gauge has a plastic nozzle and when you try to push the gauge tight against the valve, it can easily break and that's what happened to me.

Want Michelin MN-12279 Digital Programmable Tire Gauge with Light Discount?

The basic functions of the unit are good. It reads tire pressure accurately to 1/10ths of a pound which is much more accurate and better than most standard pressure gauges. However its programmable functions are unnecessarily complicated and its too easy to change key settings during normal pressure checks which is a huge flaw. You should not be able to, while checking tire pressure, to be able to accidentally change between PSI and BAR readings. Which is exactly what happened to me the second time I used the unit. This basically rendered the unit useless and without the instructions at hand there was no comprehensible labeling or buttons on the unit to change back.

In retrospect I would have purchased one of the more accurate clock type pressure gauges instead of this digital model because of its ridiculous complexity and inscrutable interface. I cannot recommend this unit you shouldnt have to read 10 pages of small type to use the basic functions of a tire pressure gauge, digital or not.

Schumacher BT-250 Digital Battery Tester

Schumacher BT-250 Digital Battery TesterThis is a very good tester. I check several of my cars. One car had a dead cell and the tester detected the problem. I would recommend the product highly. Saves time vs. taking the battery out and having the local auto parts store test the battery.

The unit seems okay in that it actually determined that one of my batteries had a bad cell. I took the battery to NAPA to have it checked and they confirmed. The main problem is that the unit came with absolutely zero documentation. I am pretty sure I figured out how to use it after some trial and error. Either way, it seems to do the job.

Buy Schumacher BT-250 Digital Battery Tester Now

The description for the battery tester stated that it performs load tests. In reality, it does not. When someone has a car battery that keeps going dead, that person wants to know whether 1) the battery can't hold a charge or 2) if there is an electrical leak in the car that is draining the battery. I bought this tester to determine the first situation. Although this unit is probably excellent for certain tests, it is useless for testing case 1). This is the type of test that 99% of people need to perform for batteries that keep going dead. Get a tester that is explicitly called a load tester. It is cheaper and will actually fulfill your needs.

I've been a longtime Alpine guy, and have always enjoyed their products. Their units are never flashy, but always had a solid unit with good functionality. HOWEVER, the only thing that made me switch recently, was the fact that Alpine doesn't get it when it comes to iPod functionality. Their units don't make it easy at all for you to navigate through your music library. In fact, I would always disconnect the iPod, find the song I wanted, and then reconnect it to play through the head unit because it was easier that way. NOT ANYMORE! With the Pioneer P1400DVD, it is so easy to navigate your iPod's music library in addition to everything else this unit has to offer. It's well designed, a solid unit & has plenty of cool visual features as well. You can change the color scheme to match your vehicle's dash lighting. You can also pick from a variety of wallpapers, and even animated backgrounds. You can even upload your own custom wallpaper or picture file via a usb flash drive if you like. It's a breeze to pop in a DVD and watch, with all the same functionality as a home DVD player. It is Sirius/XM, HD Radio, rear back-up camera, GPS Navigation & Bluetooth ready. It also has its own full built in digital equalizer, so you can customize your own sound experience. It has all the preouts you need to hook up an amp and sub as well. For the price, you definitely can't go wrong.

I was in the market for a new stereo because the one in my car was not all that great. My requirements were iPod compatible (iPhone in my case), double din, CD player a must (some of these new ones do not have it anymore), front USB connection and under $350. I had a couple in my shopping cart, went to best buy and checked them out and saw this one there. It was meant to be. Had everything I wanted plus it was touchscreen and looked super nice. Really easy to navigate and plays pandora as well. Had it installed and the guy there told me I had to press the "App" button on the corner to use my iPhone (apps or texts) if I was playing music through it. Well that causes the the stereo to stop playing music, no need to do that at all. You can still text while it's connected and use other apps so I don't even know what that App thing is for. Just wanted to put that out. Overall 5 out of 5 stars, great price, great audio, and I have gotten tons of compliments on its looks (had it installed on an 09 Pontiac Vibe). Buy it here though, I have yet to see it cheaper anywhere else. Oh and it charges the iPhone while you play music. Perfect!!

EditI lowered a star because I tried different CDS and it does not recognize album titles/songs/artist. That is pretty disappointing. Even my stock car stereo did that.

Well, I just want to say that installing this into my Toyota Highlander (2002) was a little more difficult than i thought it would be, but after that it makes me feel so good when im driving and looking at the HUGE screen! I'll go over some PROS and CONS of it, but honestly if your looking for an awesome upgrade from your factory stereo, that allows you to connect your mp3 device (through usb to charge, or aux) as well as play your Pandora through the stereo itself, and of course play dvd's too, this is the radio for you.

PROS:

-Will put out more power (50rms) to your speakers and make them sound much better.

-Gives you many settings depending on your music, such as :

Powerful (boosts base, overall sound to give a richer quality)

Natural (to get the preserve the quality of music and listen to it the way it was meant to be)

Bass Booster (really pumps out low frequency and makes your speakers/subwoofer really BUMP!)

Vocal (makes the vocals shine and stand out, as if they were right in front of you)

ETC. (also gives you 2 custom EQ's that you can create depending on your music or certain tracks)

-Ability to personalize the screen display (change the pictures to moving, different designs, etc)

-Control your IPOD, PANDORA, right through the stereo!

-Quick start up, i have not waited more then a couple seconds for it to boot up.

Theres tons more features that I can't think of right now, but will update!

CONS:

-Setup (depending on vehicle) can take a little bit, recommend professional installation if you don't know what your doing :P.

-I wish the scroll bar (to select songs on ipod, pandora) was on the left aka closer to the steering wheel so it would be easier to control instead of reaching on the other side).

If this is your first upgrade, go for it! the large screen, ability to play dvds, cds, aux devices, and control pandora and your ipod is huge! This is an awesome stereo that Pioneer knocked out of the park! Get it!

I like the Belkin brand, but the item I got was not the same as the picture. The cable does not have lock-release buttons; which was the only reason I bought this item. Do not buy this product if you have a 3G or 4G iPod Shuffle...the tip will not go all the way into the port for charging. The charging cord meant for the Shuffle has four weird pieces of plastic jutting out all around the metal tip making it impossible to insert the tip all the way into the port. I was puzzled as to why it was made with these protrusions, so I scanned the manual that came in the package and the packaging itself and in teeny tiny letters I found the problem "for use with 2G Shuffle only". Would have been nice to know this before I bought it. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am sick and tired of these companies not giving accurate or full descriptions of their products. I would think Amazon would monitor this to cut down on items being returned!

basically no one makes a car charger for the archos 504 or 604, unless you have the travel dvr adapter. this item is great, it fills the need for those of us using these archos players in the car for music, and is cheaper than the archos travel charger that you need the dvr adapter to use.

i'm giving it 4 stars, b/c it does what you expect it to, is well built, and has the ability for interchangable device tips. the only reason it didnt get 5 stars is b/c i think that is for things that go above and beyond your expectations.

This transmitter works great.

Purchased about a month ago, and have had nothing but good luck using it!

Fantastic quality over all. The remote to receiver link well together, no problems when using mp3 or sd card. Nice lcd screen, transmitter looks really good in my car also. Quality transmitter, perfect price, can't go wrong!

Buy Pyle PMP3A2 Car Flash Audio Player - LCD Display - MP3 - FM - Secure Digital (SD) Card - USB - W/ B Now

I'm using this in a 2007 Ford Focus. A car that has a factory stereo with an auxiliary (AUX) button, but no auxiliary hook up jack; The jack is in the back and has to be brought forward by fiddling with electronics and taking the radio out.

To side step the problem of having no jack on my factory radio, no want to mess with the electronics, and no real need to buy a new stereo, I was lead to this option by Pyle which plugs into my Power Outlet.

There are three options that I've found to play music through the device:

SD Card

USB Flash Drive

MP3 Player via included Audio Jack Cable

USB Flash Drive: Up first to try the device out, I loaded up some songs on my USB flash drive via my computer and stuck it into the device. I set the Pyle device to a radio station, then set my cars radio to the same station. After inserting the USB drive, the device read the music very quickly. During playback, a static noise could be heard through out. It wasn't constant, nor very bad, but it was noticed immediately. I think that one could live with it as music plays with a sort of radio quality, but I was shooting for perfection so I went on to Option 2...

SD Card: Removing the USB and inserting the SD Card, the device read the music, again, very quickly. During playback however, you could hear a constant static noise that would go up and down in pitch. Going through a few different types of songs, the noise never went away, or got better. This option for me was worse than the USB stick so I went to the last, and assumed best, hope for great MP3 playback. Option 3...

MP3 Player/Audio Jack: The Pyle player comes with a regular audio cable for connecting MP3 players. I have a middle of the road MP3 player I bought from Walmart for $20 (a GoGear Vibe, to be specific) and so, having songs already on it, I connected it up and found no, to very little, static! The only downside is that the volume is now maxed out. I like to jam out sometimes and, either through the Pyle's fault or my MP3 player's fault, I have to crank up the volume dial in my car all the way to even get it loud enough to hear over 55mph. In comparison when listening to the radio or CDs, the radio volume bar never went past 3/4. I later found out that I could maximize the volume of playback by adjusting the MP3 player's volume, but again, it did little to get it much louder and at max volume, I was missing the quality I got from burning my own CDs.

The only other negative thing I found is that I must unplug the device whenever I leave the car because, if I don't, the screen stays lit. Being that my car is parked alone hours at a time in the middle of the night, having brightly glowing electronics inside isn't a good thing. You never know who might be walking around with an idea of breaking into cars. It's only a minor inconvenience to reach up a little and pull the device out, but some sort of on/off button would have been a nice idea.

In conclusion, this is a great and stress-free option if you want to listen to MP3s in your car, but you're not wanting to buy a new stereo or mess with wiring (even if it doesn't take a lot to do). But this is far from great quality. Three stars is perfect because, it works, sometimes great, but I wasn't too impressed.

The 12 volt Electric Travel Blanket along with the Denali Utility and Emergency Kit and an Emergency Safety Hammer

are the ideal winter auto accessories for our brrr cold Michigan Winters! There is a reason Michigan is shaped like a mitten!

It doesn't take but a minute before you begin to feel the blanket's warmth.

It is the ideal comfort for my arthritic knees, never too hot, just nice and warm.

The automatic shut off is a plus should you forget to turn it off.

We purchased two of these travel blankets for each one of our cars along with a

One for the front seat and one for the back seat, enough for all passengers.

My husband and I easily shared one between us and they are perfect for our grandchildren to

snuggle under it. It was a hit with them. They love it and said they feel 'toasty-cozy' with it!

Should you want to use it to wrap yourself completely up then it would only be a 'one person' blanket.

The blankets would be ideal for those who are always cold traveling with those who are always warm.

Now everyone can be comfortable. Should you have to wait in your car for any length of time the blanket

could be a life saver. You never know what misery it can be traveling in a car with no heat in the winter! ~ Mrs. B.

UPDATE: December 26, 2006 This Electric Auto Blanket was a big hit as a Christmas gift! Seems everyone wanted one!

Buy 12V Electric Blanket Now

We received the 12 Volt Electric Auto Blanket as a Christmas gift.

Since then it has come in mighty handy to keep our children nice and warm in the backseat. They love it.

The temperatures have been so frigid that schools have closed because of the cold. (-30 with the wind chill!)

It has gotten better but it's still frigid here. So the extra warmth has been a blessing.

It gets nice and warm but not hot. Just right for safety purposes. Your car battery won't get run down.

The control has a timer for both 30 minutes and 45 minutes, after that it automatically turns off.

The blanket reaches across the backseat to cover everyone from door to door.

We plug our blanket into a socket in the backseat.

If you need to plug the cord in the front seat it is well able to reach the back.

I recommend this blanket to anyone travelling during the winter, it will keep you nice and warm.

I bought this blanket for my wife, for our long drives to and from the Catskill Mountains, in the winter. She is very happy with it and says it is plenty warm. The material is soft, although a bit bulgy after many uses. The cord is long enough to reach the outlet and seems to be heavy duty with a level control. It is well made and large enough. I was surprised that a 12 volt blanket would be this warm. I was worried about using a heating device through the cars 12v system but I have had no problems (Toyota) I am more than satisfied with the purchase and recommend it to my friends.

The only down side is now our dog insists on sitting on her lap for the entire trip.

nice blanket but it keeps blowing the fuse i had to put a heavier one in to make it work....

GTMax 2-Port USB Car Charger Vehicle Power Adapter with Extra Socket for iPhone, iPod, MP3 MP4 Play

GTMax 2-Port USB Car Charger Vehicle Power Adapter with Extra Socket for iPhone, iPod, MP3 MP4 Players and moreThis is the perfect accessory for those power sockets tucked deep inside the center console storage bin. The two USB sockets allow you to charge almost any combination of devices, while the open power socket in the center provides a place for a third device to be plugged in. You could probably even stack two of these things if you rotated the upper one to provide clearance for the wires.

If you plan on using this in a dash mounted socket, you need to be aware that it projects out a fair distance. With the USB cords plugged in, it came close to interfering with the gear shift on my car. For that location, you might look at more compact units that don't have the center socket.

This is perfect for what I need. Works great and is exactly what I needed. I have several accessories I need in my car but very few places to plug them in; this completely solves that problem.

I bought this adapter because I really needed a USB port in the car to charge my phone. I opted for the adapter with 2 USB outlets and the extra socket so that I could also accommodate my GPS and iPod charger if necessary. So far, the adapter has worked perfectly and exactly as described. As other reviewers noted, it is a little large, but I have ample space in front of my power outlet, so this wasn't really an issue. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a multi-port car-to-USB adapter. Even with the added shipping cost, it was still a fraction of the price that these things sell for at Radio Shack.

If I just charge with my cellphone/gps off it works okay (though the current is just about the same as connect to my laptop, i.e. half of connect to an external charger). But the second I turn them on, especially gps, the current drops down to 1mA and the battery of my cell will go dead either way. Now I got a charger for nexus one made by google and it works flawlessly. The conclusion is: serious flaw with the charger, be aware!

Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter

Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter
  • LCD Display with backlight
  • Ideal for MP3, CD and MD Playback
  • Full range frequency settings
  • 3.5mm Stereo Audio Input Jack for most audio devices
  • Transmits music wirelessly from audio devices over FM frequency
  • Ideal for MP3, CD, and audio playback from other portable devices
  • Full-range FM frequency settings
  • LCD display with backlight
  • 3.5mm stereo plug works with most audio devices

The Coby-745 is in my opinion, the all-around best buy in the wireless FM car transmitter market. At $17.99 on Amazon, it is roughly half the price of most of it's competitors, but what's amazing is that it provides additional features! The cap on the built in car charger flips off to reveal a spot for another charging plug (like for a cell phone for example). The springs hold the device in tightly while in use and the charger unit is hinged to the transmitter, providing for a 360 degree+ rotation of the unit. The light up screen in blue shows the full frequency channels you can select from with the lighted dial, in increments of 0.1 MHz.

This unit doesn't just look pretty and have nice features, it also performs extremely well. On a 40 minute commute through back roads, highway and city, the unit didn't lose signal once and I heard ZERO interference, yes, that's right, none! Compare that to other reviews.

Downsides? All the downsides are common to most other transmitters: it doesn't have an on/off button, so you have to unplug the unit if you want it to stop drawing power. To get the sound just right, you have to crank the treble on your car stereo a tad (although this just may be a personal preference). And, you have to crank the volume on your mp3 player and/or stereo (and remember to turn the volumes back down when you use your stereo or mp3 player without the transmitter or else risk blowing out your eardrums). There was some static noise when handling the unit initially although I found this went away quickly as the static charge (coming from the user) dispersed.

The sound quality amazes mevery near CD quality soundand I was very pleased there was no interferencein the 40 minutes driving, I never had to switch channels. As long as it holds up, I don't plan on switching transmitters anytime soon either. The Coby-745 rocks.

Buy Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter Now

Right off, the price. If I paid double or even triple and it performed as it does, I would have been satisfied. FM transmitters by definition are supposed to be the last resort for sending audio through car speakers from a portable device, given their many potential downfalls. But I've used the Coby CA-745 daily for over two months now and I couldn't be happier. I even made sure to wait this long before posting a review, in case it worked well but broke quickly.

A few major points to consider regarding this model: first, this is not an iPod-charging device. For me, that was OK. Everything I plug my iPod into at home charges it, so I was purposely looking for a transmitter that would fit the iPod's 3.5mm headphone jack.

Second, it allows for selection among the full FM frequency band including the almost-never-taken 87.9. I set it there on Day 1 and never changed it. But it's nice to know that I am not limited to four preset tunings if I need to change it.

Third, it is designed thoughtfully. I didn't want a battery-powered transmitter, but my lighter jack is situated in a recessed part of my lower dashboard, so the tilting display helps. The coiled connection cable keeps things neat, as does the flip-off cover that exposes a piggyback lighter jack, so you can still plug in a cellphone charger or whatever. Funny that you don't see any of these options in the high-priced FM transmitters.

But none of the above would matter if it didn't sound good. I am a critical listener, though aware that I cannot expect my car audio system to sound as good as my home system. Three aspects of this unit's audio quality stand out: its output level strength is terrific, there is actual discernable stereo separation, and no noticeable coloration in frequencies. I tried all the preset EQ settings on my iPod with this and found that it sounded best flat, no EQ at all. To me, that alone spoke volumes about the quality of its transmitted stereo signal.

Background noise is virtually non-existent and I never get those bursts of static anymore. I can make out a very slight constant high-pitched whine, which I know is my car interfering with the signal (having the wipers on causes the whine to modulate some), but note this is just one component of an overall VERY LOW LEVEL background noise floor. Unless you crank it up between songs or during very light musical passages, you're not going to hear any artifacts produced by this unit. And for you purists out there try cranking up your built-in car CD player when a song is paused with factory units especially, you may be surprised by how much low-level garbage is percolating back there that you'd never really notice.

My Ford Taurus was tricky for getting an iPod to play through it. The factory audio system is configured in such a way that adding an audio input would have been expensive and complex to install. The in-dash cassette goes into auto-forward when trying to use a cassette adapter, so I'm really stuck with the FM transmitter method. My antenna is a standard fixed-pole antenna at the back of the car, and the cheap no-name FM transmitter I was using before this could only be placed in certain locations to work at all, and even then produced constant light static that was annoyingly audible, plus regular bursts of loud jarring static. Yet I put up with that for a long time since I knew from researching online that no matter what model or price, there was nothing that was consistently lauded as working great, and every unit seemed to have the ability to work as poorly as the piece of junk I already had.

So again, the price. There are no guarantees, but a lot of people are having good luck with this unit. If your situation is like mine, the price alone should make it worth the gamble.

I have gone through four of these types of FM Transmitters. One was powered by the iPod. I don't recommend that type as it sucks your battery dry quickly. The one I am replacing this time worked alright, but was bulky and finally stopped working correctly. I was happy when I plugged this one in and effortlessly synced FM stations and got CD quality sound. Another nice feature is that you don't have to switch it on. When it is plugged in it is live when the radio is tuned to that station and does not affect any other stations if you are listening or scanning other stations. The only thing I wish someone would add is a bit of amplification. Every transmitter I've used requires you to turn your iPod volume up almost all the way and then you still have to turn your stereo volume up much higher than normal. Obviously, if you forget to adjust both volumes down before using either next time, you will blast your eardrums or speakers.

Want Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter Discount?

I drive for a living, and I love jazz. I also think FM radio is insipid at best, so I've been using wireless transmitters for my CD and now Mp3 player for over 4 yrs. This, so far, is the best. It covers the full FM spectrum, provides power to keep a signal and looks way cool doing it. I always had a low opinion of all things Coby, but they really hit a homerun with this piece of gear. The only question will be, how will it work in 3 or 6 months? If I don't change this review then buy it, by all means. When something works this good for under $20 it's a no-brainer.

Addendum: It's been a couple months now and the unit had been performing very well. Held the signal better than any other wireless FM transmitter I ever tried. Seldom faded and constant strength. But then... just today, I tried using the piggyback adaptor with a 60w converter for a heating pad and it burnt out the Coby. That's why I went into the detailed description: if you use the adaptor let it be for a cellphone or something using less juice. Otherwise it will fry the unit. I ordered another one though as I really enjoyed using itso in the end that's the highest endorsement I can give.

When I first bought the CA-745, I thought it was a great buy: it worked well. After about nine days or so, it started making a loud cracking sound (loud static) whenever the end of the stereo connector moved. This quickly became unbearable to me because it happened every time I selected a song or changed the volume, etc. I had to return it for a refund. If Coby can get the wiring quality taken care of, they will have an unbeatable value on the CA-745.

Virtual Reality Sound Labs VRTP3N1C175 Slim 3 In 1 Power Inverter - 175 Watts

Virtual Reality Sound Labs VRTP3N1C175 Slim 3 In 1 Power Inverter - 175 WattsI use this inverter on my motorcycle to charge a spare battery for my Blackberry, to charge my netbook computer battery, and to charge a spare battery for my digital camera.

Everything is carried in my tankbag and the unit is quiet and runs fairly cool even in the closed tankbag. Of course I'm not really stressing the capacity since the ASUS netbook takes 36W when running and much less to charge the battery. The Blackbery and camera batteries also require very little current. With the netbook and the USB charger plugged in, the VR3 is running at about 20% capacity.

I haven't noticed a large current draw from the unit, but I usually use it when the motorcycle is running and providing lots of power. Haven't tried using it just from the battery.

It is very convenient to have the 110VAC and the USB output so I can charge two things at once and don't have to carry another cable, which works fine and has not caused any problems.

The AC output is on the end of the unit, which is good for the netbook charger and not so much for the camera charger since it has the flip-out plug and makes the whole thing a little awkward when plugged together.

I like that the DC input cable unplugs from the unit so it can be stored more compactly when not in use.

Altogether I would recommend this as a low capacity inverter/converter combo. Very convenient and the price is right.

I also bought this from Costco just today and I was concerned when I got home and read the previous reviewer's comments. I decided to give the product the benefit of the doubt and actually tried it. I attached both my cell phone charger and the charger for my Garmin GPS at the same time. Both charged without problems. I actually had some initial qualms because there was no sound at all coming from the inverter and I wondered how it could be cooling without a fan. Unconvinced, I plugged in a battery charger with four AA batteries. No noise and the unit is barely warm. If all of this holds true after a few more tests, I'll go back and get a couple of more. You do have to keep in mind that this is a 175-watt inverter and thus is limited. I tried old Gateway laptop and it wouldn't work but this dinosaur computer reeves up a terrible cooling fan on startup and it's too much for this little unit.

Tried Everything about it, Its definately not 175 watts, will not run anything more than about 75 watts, 15.4" laptop will work after its booted it up but wont run with the wireless turned on. It actually comes with a Fm modulator & that works good, really powerful. But I bought it for a bike and it will be used to charge e-cig, cell phone & various other batts, maybe to recharge a shutdown laptop occasion. So hopefully it wont let me down. Just dont expect to run anything over 75 watts & you'll be fine. For 14$ if I get a year or 2 out of it I'll be happy. Bottom line its really compact charger/inverter & will run only the smallest netbooks, tablets. Even says in the manual it will run 100 watts for 20 mins, so 75 continuous is its max.

If you want small inverter with ability to run tvs, large laptops & have an extra 12 volt plug in it, I'd suggest Black & Decker, 200watt continuous/400surge , Maxx SST. I have one that still works like a champ, even after 8 severely used & abused years.(Orange one, Not the newer silver one, just cant speak for that one), A well sepent 20$.

Want Virtual Reality Sound Labs VRTP3N1C175 Slim 3 In 1 Power Inverter - 175 Watts Discount?

I purchased this last night. Wanting a inverter to power my netbook and mobile devices. Open it up today I found out it was a FM transmitter as well. It didn't mention that on the packaging. So I plugged it in to a Mp3 player and tune to the default station on the unit. Wow!!! I was impressed with the sound and clarity.

I live in a city and FM Trans. don't go together. In the many Trans. I have own they were all horrible. Especially a stoplights and especially in a Ford Taurus I occasionally drive around. The receiver on the Taurus is in the trunk so any ordinary trans. doesn't do well due to the six foot range of the trans. I unplug the Trans and find out the station was broadcasting a local program. Usually there would be bleeding and you would notice this almost immediately; not the case here.

Later I got in the Taurus and which I have a DLO iPod docking/charger. I only use it for hi-way trips out of the city. This unit on the same station that was broadcasting locally was powerful enough to over come that and the distance to the trunk to produce good fidelity and static-free sound in the city.

I would highly recommend this to anyone.

One downside the manual states that you can only use the 120V outlet for about 20 min.
